It also helps that Involuntary Doppelgänger isn't all downpicking. But still, yeah, keep at it! Hell, have you seen the several times Dean's struggled to remember how his own parts go? You can do this

I laughed so freaking hard during this episode. You guys are legends, your chemistry and wit is fantastic and the editing hilarious as always. Man this should become a TV show
The editing in each vid legitimately makes it hard to pick a favorite. I end up laughing my ass off at least once due to a visual gag or editing gag. You guys rule.
I really, really, hope everyone realizes that the guitar playing in these videos is the LAST thing to watch them for. Pure comedic gold. Greatest couple chemistry ever. Cheers humans.
Seriously though. Fuck archspire for the music, I’m glad I found it and got obsessed with it for these comedic masterpiece/cutest fucking couple ever videos, I don’t even need the music anymore with this gold content…… ok maybe I’d still like to have the music
To be fair when you write songs even at a high and precise level there's a level of intuition to it. Learning other people's songs is a whole nother monster especially if they patterns or playstyle is a bit different from what you're used to. P.S. I don't play any of this stuff myself 😭😭
If Claire turned into a lamp, Dean have to change his name to "Dean Lamp" to prove his love? P.S.: great show, nice people, awesome music. In just one word: wholesome.
It's so wild to hear the guitar riffs solo because I could never pick them out and say "oh that's from To The Hellfire" or whatever. There's just so much going on in the song that the individual riff becomes indistinguishable.
I have an idea: please put tabs in the video describtion, this way video series from pure entertaining changes also to semi-educational content. I think there are a lot of guitarists, who want to learn a bunch of cool, top tier, tech riffs that move the metal music forward, directly from the musicians, first-handedly.
Me waiting until they'll eventually learn 4 levels of (Blackened) Death Metal that has examples of Behemoth, and Belphagor. Might not happen, but we shall see.
First, let me just say that the fact that he's down picking that shit is insane. That's crazy levels of skill. That being said, I'm with Dean on the idea that pure down picking isn't the be-all, end-all. Down picking definitely sounds better in some situations - like the example Claire gave where you can REALLY dig in. It makes it more percussive and gives it more attack. But I feel like when you start getting past a certain speed, you can't give each stroke the power you could when it was slower, and it really just feels like it becomes less efficient alternate picking at that point. IMO.
I agree. When you're alternate picking one string at a time, you really can't tell the difference. It's when you're alternate picking multiple strings that it starts to sound worse.
I agree. I self-taught angled pick attack for fast playing, but became an "upside-down" picker (ie leading edge of the pick attacks on the upstroke, trialing edge on the downstroke) in the process, so I get better tone on the upstroke. Pros and cons .......my muting is problematic. I toy with playing the conventional way, but I don't feel I have as much control over the tone and the attack is too heavy . For some songs it's not doubt better to play "correctly", rather than my Gumby way. Apparently Misha did the same thing, but eventually left the dark side and went back to the light.
I love these videos. I know you’re doing it in jest (in parts) but the level of technique and exploration and willingness to get it WRONG is admirable and inspiring. So good.
4 levels of vocals, you say? Who we gettin on first, Will Ramos? Fr tho, I would kill to see that, whenever Claine feels comfortable enough with her skills
Idk if it was your or tobis solo, but at the end of acrid canon the solo made me tear up and I was overcome with emotion just now. I’m not even high or anything but I was looking at the lyrics so I think the way the solo complimented the story just really hit me hard this particular time
Level 2 may in fact be the fastest down picked riff I've ever heard. Crazy skills. I'd love to hear any suggestions on a faster down picked riff out there
Everyone keeps saying this is mixed like ass but don’t forget this is closer to black metal than deathcore…which is also mixed like ass now a days so it’s really right on point.

It also helps that Involuntary Doppelgänger isn't all downpicking.
