Hey 👋 Thank you so much! 🙏🏼 my bike was sputtering out on me and I didn’t understand why. Your video saved me a bunch of time and money! I appreciate it! I’ve never even heard about this idle screw before and I’ve owned it for 15yrs.
That is fantastic to hear! I’m really glad to have helped. Thank you for the supportive comment as well. It means the world to hear people say that I have helped them. Thank you sir. ☺️
Got my first bike last summer and was having some issues with the idle jumping like you said. Gonna change spark plugs and coils and hopefully that fixes it! Appreciate the vid brotha👌🏼
hey man you seem to know a lot about the 04 r6s, my bike has black smoke coming out of exhaust when revving high and a lot comes out when riding, my friend said black smoke would come out while riding and it smelled strongly of gas behind the bike, also spits flames, also when i fully fill the tank up to the brim i get about 60 miles till the gas light turns on which is very irregular, idle is rough and likes to bounce like you stated and a couple of times i’ve come to a stop and idle will fall really really low but has never turned off, bike has an aftermarket yoshimura slip on, new injectors and injector seals, new fuel pump, and new oil pan gasket.
Didn’t even know you can check diagnostic codes right from the bike! That’s sick! Thanks for the tips! Mines an 06 R6S(05 gen) and I don’t believe I’ve changed the coils, so they might be the original faulty ones and it’s got 19K on them
My idle jumps while warming up then kind of steadies out. But the thing that has got me scratching my head is when I try to get on the throttle from a stop my bike will stutter up to 4k and then a blast of power effectively bringing the wheel up. Any ideas on that?
SeriesOfTunnels To me that sounds like it could be the TPS. It could easily be the Atmospheric pressure sensor too. Plugs and coils could also cause it, but I would think it’s more likely to be the TPS.
This video helped me with my 01 R6. It stalled out on me twice today... But the idle screw was the issue. My throttle cable scares the fuck out of me, with how frayed it is, but I'll be taking care of that soon.
turbo cars turbo you most likely need to adjust your throttle cable. Sounds like there is not enough slack in the cable. There is an adjustment along the cable, and there is also a macro adjustment on the throttle wheel itself. If that does not help the issue, it may be a bad air pressure sensor or an injector problem.
My 03 r6 has some sort of chirping/squeaking sound at idle like perhaps something could be loose though the bike seems to run fine. Any idea what it could be?
That doesn’t sound good. We would need more information. Does it do when the bike is still? Or when moving? Can you feel vibrations during the “squeak”? Can you get off and tell where it’s generally coming from? If it’s inside the engine, something is rubbing and you will want to find and take care of that as soon as possible.
My spark plugs have going out of function 3 or 3 times, and its idling poor after the bike wurm up the idling is better, after will biging to misfire the spark plugs,do you thik is the ignitiin coil problem
Yes. I would say that’s a cool problem. Another thing it could be is the Venturi surface where the throttle body is. They gum up and need to be cleaned every so often. I would clean that throttle body really well, and change the coils.
Does it do this with any gear when shifting down? What speeds will it do this during? Is it during idle, or can it happen when the bike is moving? How old is the clutch? Several things it could be: 1. Kick stand sensor or sensor wire, 2. Clutch or clutch cable 3. Transmission problem My bet is a clutch cable problem or a sensor problem.
bs careful w the recall... I had to switch my densos out but the recall wasn't valid anymore.. back in 2017.but yeah those coils are a fuckin pain to replace but very very effective once its done. put high heat gasket maker around the plasric ignition bushing to keep water out of the spark plug channel. worked for me so far! Nice Vud dude.
Hi! I have a Yamaha R6, 2004 & I have started to face an issue recently. I would need your help to diagnose the problem, the total kilometers I have run my bike are 12,000KM ONLY since I got it as I wasn’t riding regularly. For about a month now, I have been riding it regularly. I always do a normal maintenance like Oil change with filter /coolant & battery. yesterday when I left home I felt the bike is heavy and it’s not running smoothly. Once I stopped at the traffic light and released gas it turned off & when I tried to turn it back on it wasn’t really working without taking extra gas. All I could do is just give it extra gas and get back home. I thought I change the air filter and spark plugs, so I did that but the problem is still there. Please help me in diagnosing the problem.
I would check the throttle position sensor, the throttle cable, and the fuel injectors. If it’s not one of those, it could be the fuel filter and/or the fuel pump!
Hey bro my bikes tps Range is supposed to be 97-100 (WOT) and it was at 94... Will that cause idle issues? At closed I had 16 and I believe the range is 15-17 for Closed throttle
My bike has been fine until I get on it hard then it'll drop the rpms once I come to a stop and basically stall.. it's only stalled on me once.. the rest of the times it does that it just idles lower and poorly (choppy idle) could it be coils/plugs?
Well, that sounds like a throttle position sensor. If the sensor is off or damaged, it could inhibit the bikes ability to understand what the throttle wire is doing. So the bike will stammer. Imagine if your brain weren’t in complete control of your feet. I would get some CRC electronics cleaner and take the throttle position sensor off, clean it, and re-attach the sensor. If that doesn’t help, try cleaning the throttle body and air venturi from the air box into the engine. This could cause throttle problems as well.
Cleaning the Throttle position sensor might not be enough. If it’s old enough and seen enough abuse, it may just need to be replaced. Please let me know what happens! I’m interested to see what it is!
@@motormaniac1 for sure! I'm most likely gonna just order a new one and clean the old one while it's shipping.. also I noticed my bike idles at like 2200 rpm? Is that the throttle screw or something in the tune because it does have a power commander... I'm new to bikes and only had this since last halloween so forgive my ignorance lol
I live in the city and have to deal with Constant stop signs. I really don't get out of first gear too much. is it ok and safe to the bike to ride in first gear at like 5000 rpm?? and do you think that cruising in first will put unnecessary stress on the bike or overheat her?? Thanks!
Brian Burk that really depends on a number of factors. If you don’t get a lot of air moving through the radiator, (lots of stop and go) the bike will heat up, especially in the summer (depending on where you live of course). Generally speaking, for an R6, you won’t have a problem as long as the radiator temperature stays below 225 F. Through the city during the southern USA summer, mine would average about 199-208. As far as wear on the engine, a sportbike (specifically the R6) is tailored to run at RPMS far higher than 5,000. I’ve run mine as high as 12-13,000 for significant distances at highway speeds with no complications. Bottom line: if it’s hot and you’re doing a lot of stop and go, it can’t hurt to shift to second. That’s not necessarily needed though. Now, I will say, if it is a new bike, you should break in your engine before babying it. If you bought it new, take it on the highway somewhere for a little while and really get up on the RPMs. Hope this helped sir! If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
@@motormaniac1 Thanks a million brother! I'll give you a little rundown. She's a 2004 yzf r6 I bought her last Saturday and have been riding a good amount not as much as I would like lol also I noticed she is having idling issues and a stutter when I hold the throttle between 2 and 3 thousand rpm.... I adjusted the idle screw and have her idling at around 1900 rpm now but havent rode her yet with the adjustment. I live in South Philadelphia ,Pennsylvania. Thanks a million for your time. Its much appreciated brother!!!! Brian
@@motormaniac1 I only get her up to 4000 rpm in 1st and she is already deafening lol. I think my concern is coming because of how loud she is.... Like I'll be at 4000 rpm in 1st and because of the noise my brain will tell me, o because its so loud it must be doing damage, you know what I mean?
Brian Burk So I would check the TPS and the coils and plugs. I bet one of those things would solve your stutter. It is very likely the spark plugs may not have ever been replaced on a bike that old. The bike should idle between 1750-1900 RPM with no problem. And yea, sometimes they’re pretty loud :) I personally ride with ear plugs in! Otherwise you’ll have hearing damage lol
R6's really don't like to do anything below 4000rpm, so even just tooling along with traffic you should try to keep it at 4 or more. No, it won't hurt it to be at higher rpm than that.

Watching this video 7 days ago, would have saved me $140 and about 6 hours of labor. Ended up being the coils, and they were the factory denzos.
Thanks so much this is still helping at least this rider out!
Thank you! That’s awesome! 🥳☺️

You can adjust the throttle free play at the lever it’s a little nob that controls the slack/freeplay
Nathaniel yessir! On the throttle cable there is a little nob you can unscrew, on the pull cable.

You would be able to tell though. If you’re not having problems, you may have gotten a good set 😂
How do I check the codes on 04 R6 ? I have slightly bigger cams and power commander but I have engine light on now
Same issue on my R6 but none of those were the fixes for me :(
Thanks for the video bro!
Well thank you my good sir!
What about idle issue in 2001 R6
Could that also have factory recall on coils?

It’s probably somewhere down there bee riding like that for a whole year
