***update*** screen mirroring is now working on my s10 plus. New android update came out today. I was almost positive it wasn't gonna work after the last 2 updates did not resolve the issue. It works flawlessly as of today 4/8/20. Pretty neat feature

@Briianna Souza click screen mirroring on the unit, then on my Samsung, I click on "smart view" under the drag down notification bar. Then the Kenwood 9906xr should pop up. Like I said, mine would never connect. I got this unit back in January. I had already updated to android 10. A few updates later, I still couldn't connect. Another update rolled out today, and it all of a sudden worked..

I can report success with an Android phone here in Australia. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and I just had a Kenwood DMX8019DABS installed in the car today. I had been trying for hours unsuccessfully to get the wireless mirroring to work. Downloading both kenwood apps ("smartphone control" and "mirroring for kenwood") had no effect, nor did (on the phone) settings>connections>more connection settings>Mirrorlink (as this seems to require USB connection). A search for "mirror" turned up no other options in the phone. It wasn't until I hit on this video and saw them use a native function in the top level, swipe down settings menu, that I scoured my own menu for something that might work and saw "Smart View". I tapped that, the kenwood appeared in the list and literally 2 seconds later I had complete control of the entire phone via the touchscreen on the kenwood, including all apps. It does bring home the fact that these phones have far superior screen res than the car units as it's hard to read the screen when the phone is in portrait mode, but when you rotate the phone to landscape, the kenwood mirrors and everything becomes much clearer. Hope that helps someone.

They are crazy, they didn't update their Kenwood Smartphone Control to work with Samsung S10 with the latest software.
My S10 worked fine before I finally hit that annoying update button...my android mobile was not linking up also, but I got it to work ...let me know if you find a fix....
Ditto. Worked great with my s7edge till I upgraded to s10. Half the features don't work and half the bluetooth settings are crummy to say the least

I really enjoy screen mirroring my S21 Ultra with the Kenwood dnx996xr because I can turn on Samsung DEX on my indash, and i can watch DVDs, and play CD's. Just swapped my Alpine ilx-w507 because its not nearly as useful.
Wireless android auto works flawless, but wireless mirroring doesn't with my Pixel 4. USB Mirroring is fine. I noticed that I don't have the mirroring option in bluetooth setting. Any help, please?
Can you have screen mirroring on another device if you already set up a phone for screen mirroring? Or can you only have one phone set up to do screen mirroring. I already mirror my galaxy s20+ but i just got a cheap moto 6 for work and wanted to use it to cast on the head unit my obd2 data and gouges.
Can I get an updated list of what headunits support wireless screen mirroring setup like this? I understand your pushing the 9906x but uninterested in the 9905s and dmx905. Kenwood site incompatibility list is 2015. And I see in excelon section atleast 4 other headunits are listed as wireless android screen mirroring in features.

Late, but you can just ground the Parking break wire so the unit thinks that it is always on.
Sadly, the Kenwood Mirroring app only works with older versions of Android OS (version 7, codenamed "Nougat" which came out in 2016). So, if you have a more recent Android OS version 10 (late 2019, API 29) or Android OS version 11 (late 2020, API 30), you're basically screwed. And unfortunately, Kenwood is likely not going to update their app to be compatible with newer versions of Android OS...Believe me when I tell you I've had many tech support calls to Kenwood about this!!...they don't really care! Keep in mind that Kenwood actually don't even develop the Mirroring app - it's outsourced to a 3rd party developer. As an alternative, you would think Kenwood could offer a firmware update to the car stereo head units to use the newer Android OS versions, but again....not a priority to them and is not likely going to happen
This video is made in 2019 and demonstrates wireless mirroring with the current for the time phones with functional wireless mirroring. Can you provide details of what receiver you are trying to use mirroring as well as what android smartphone and software version you are having trouble with. This is still currently a supported feature that has been verified to work with supported phones. keep in mind that wireless mirroring is not a universal android feature and requires specific hardware and operating system to work. Hi Dave, you are correct.. my Pixel and Samsung note will not work for mirroring. However my girlfriends iPhone works. I've gone down rabbit hole to found this to be true. nothing works on there apps with no support.. My advise is to return it and give them a review

I have a DMX9707S never had a issue with the wireless mirroring but now when I go to phone settings and try to connect my phone to mirroring it won't connect I have a s21 ultra so the phone use smart view I can mirror my phone to my tvs is there a setting thats change on the receiver everything else works even bluetooth I just can't connect to the mirroring

On that model, you would have to use 3rd party physical cables and connect to the receiver's AV Input using the KENWOOD CA-C3AV cable, then access the source "AV Input", and control from the phone itself.
@@KenwoodUSA thank you for replying, the problem that I am seeing is that on this model there is no AV input, the only 3.5 input says AV Audio output stamped above it. Would this work as the AV input you speak of?
I have the Excelon DMX906S, I can't screen mirror with my Pixel 3, is there something that I am missing?
Unfortunately Pixels don't support Miracast. I'm working around it by keeping another phone around that does support Miracast and having it connect to my Pixel through its hotspot. Definitely a kludge though.

@@blakebuhlig7573 I can confirm it worked running Android 9 on my Pixel 1 and 3. Once Android 10 hit it broke.
@@kbsmoka I dunno, all I know is that below in the thread Kenwood responded that Miracast is the underlying technology and that Google stopped supporting Miracast years ago. Here's another thread forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/help/miracast-screencast-dlna-android-10-t3974933 . Maybe something in the earlier versions was sort of working by accident. I hope it gets fixed but am not holding my breath.

At this time, the latest update to Android OS 10 on Samsung devices has apparently disabled this feature. We are working on a workaround solution, but hopefully Samsung provides an update to achieve its previous support.

To display video on screen the receiver has a park wire that needs to be connected to the Parking brake wire and will display images when in park and the brake is active. Thanks!

Hi does the brake needs to be engaged even for navigation apps? How is that any good?
For mirroring Android smartphones and to play video's this does require a parking brake engaged for safe use, however for navigation App's please use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as your connection type and it will allow the use of navigation without the parking brake engaged. Thanks

@@maccheese9072 first thank you for choosing KENWOOD! To allow mirroring the Android phone is required to support Miracast, this is a common Wi-fi feature in android phones but NOT all android phones are equipped or enabled out of the box.
Unfortunately, Motorola is not commonly equipped with Miracast. It may be that your android phone does not support this feature. You can verify this on your exact phone from this website www.wi-fi.org/
There is good news, you can also use an analog video input to view your smartphone on-screen with the proper adapters connected to the video input of the 10.1" to display your smartphone screen. And you can also do the same with the HDMi input with the proper adaptors for your smartphone.

This works with a Samsung S20 wirelessly but with a Sony Xperia 1 IV you can only get video/audio but no touch response wirelessly to control the phone from the Kenwood screen unless you use USB.
The phone may not support the remote control feature. Not all Android-based phones use UIBC control. Thanks!
@@KenwoodUSA Another issue with the Sony is you cannot force full screen aspect on the kenwood screen, it cuts the top and bottom off. But with the Samsung it will actually ask you what aspect you want to have priority.

DNX996XR, DNR876S, DDX9906XR, DMX9706S, DMX906S, DDX8906S, & DDX8706S. No additional phone wire connection is needed for wireless mirroring.

This only uses Miracast technology.
Android hasn't dropped support, Google has, in favor of Chromecast so Pixel phones will not work. Samsung is fine.

Hardest part would be how to power it.
Chromecast is different and way more annoying since it requires a hotspot. If your phone is rooted and you install a different ROM it's possible to enable Miracast on devices that don't have it. Not all phones can be rooted though.

Thank you for the question! The model you are referring to is a Discontinued receiver and never offered screen mirroring. However, the current line up of KENWOOD receivers offers many great options if you desire screen mirroring. For example, the DMX125BT, is an excellent value and can screen mirror select android phones via the USB cable input. Thanks

I found a setting that turns the time overlay off: Setup > Display > OSD Clock > Off.
Wait, i bought a $1500 kenwood deck that has mirroring but i cannot use mirroring unless my parking break is on???? Please dont tell me this is true. Im about to be FURIOUS! This install costed me almost $2500 with everything and not i cannot mirror?
Next, use a normal current samsung. Thats ridiculously old. It doesnt match out new phones or devices.
This video was made in 2019, so the Smartphone is an older device by today's standard. Also, the parking brake wire is required for any receiver that can display video, regulations mandate what the driver can view while the vehicle is in motion. Thanks!

@pete Dogg So the green/white wire just goes to the Ground and black wire to radio and that's all it takes to make mirroring work with the hand brake off? I need a solution or else I'm returning this thing.
Tie the light green wire and the ground wire together and you won't have to use a toggle switch

EDIT: As of 4/14/20 Samsung (AT&T) has pushed out their UI 2.1 update and has fixed this issue!
WARNING: WIRELESS MIRRORING IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ANDROID 10. IT WILL NOT WORK. NOT SURE WHY IT WAS NOT TESTED BEFOREHAND BUT THEY NEED TO PUT A FIRMWARE UPDATE OUT. I'M USING A S10E AND A DDX9906XR.
The s10e has miracast/screenshare, right? Damnit, I just bought and installed a dmx906s and was super disappointed to learn that i can't watch netflix or youtube using my pixel 2xl. So.... researching new phones to get that will let me use my new fancy stereo to its fullest potential and the s10/s10e were top of my list.
We have tested this with Android OS 10 and it is compatible, however select Samsung phones with the OS 10 update are not currently working, which is something that you should file a report with Samsung asking them to fix or bring back this support.

I worked really hard to finally get my DDX8906S and Samsung S10 to work for mirroring only to find out this doesn't work unless your car is Parked. What good is that? My phone screen is nearly as big as the head unit view screen, I can't think of any reason I would need to mirror my phone while only in Park instead of just using my phone (maybe if my phone screen was cracked or something). If you can't use this for GPS then I honestly do not understand why this is even offered, it's like saying you can't answer your phone, use your Radio or A/C either unless the car is in Park....it just makes absolutely no sense at all. Now I have to pay my installer again to either remove this unit completely and return it back to the store or do this bypass wiring others are talking about. There's no common sense with this setup.
Bypass wiring takes 5 minutes. Maybe do some research before you buy something or maybe common sense would tell you they're not going to let you screen mirror a movie while you're driving.
How did you get yours to works. I have a GS10+ and I can't mirror
The problem is in many states it's illegal to play video in the head unit while the car is moving. This came up back in the day when head units that played DVDs first became available. You can get around it, but the manufacturer has to disable the feature out of the box.
Is there a reason i can't get my galaxy s10 to work with screen mirroring?
Upon Samsung's update to Android OS10, the wireless mirroring source ceased to function on Samsung devices, but does work on other brands of phones that have been updated to Android OS10. We found a workaround solution for our new 2020 models, and are currently engineering a workaround solution for the 2019 models, but do not have an ETA for completion... it could be possible that Samsung provides an update on their end to fix their issue and make it work the way it used to.

For safety reasons, the wire is connected to the parking brake to "ground" the trigger wire to prevent video display in motion while in use on public roads. Thanks!

@@KenwoodUSA I have Miracast and it only works for 30 seconds if I'm lucky and it only works with Wi-FI. If I turn off Wi-Fi it instantly disconnects. This is on my DDX8906S
@@danwhitaker9168 check for updates with your receiver, app, and smartphone. Once those are all up to date, clear any past connections from the receiver and phone, and re establish connections. Make sure you are not connected to any other networks or BT devices. Thank you

I'm not sure exactly where you are seeing that listed, but "mirroring' is a vague term that could be associated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As for the wireless mirroring source associated with this video, the DMX706S does not have that.

@@davidr1122 Correct on the first part. The DMX906S in an eXcelon model, so it has other upgrades, including higher quality sound features and a 2 year warranty.

@Zack Smith performance can be affected by a few different things. Different smartphone hardware capability, Network connection, memory usage of the phone *close/stop unused apps* and possibly quality of the connection cable used.
Make sure to update your smartphone and receiver as often as they become available. Thanks
@Zack Smith the performance of the smartphone is more the factor for streaming quality than the receiver input. Simply put, the receiver is showing you what the phone is displaying. As mentioned above there are several factors that could be contributing to your choppy playback, if you can try testing another phone, other cables, different video apps. Thanks

Yeah those are the only good 30 seconds after which the stream lags & in most cases the connection drops. Fed up with it

This is a normal process for Mirroring since phones are currently built to function with Android Auto as a primary connection with automotive receivers. To engage in Mirroring, the phone requires the feature to be enabled for each use.
In short, the phone must be "Told" what connection to use. Thanks!

@@jahdrieltv2526 To test the video connection, you simply need to Ground the Mint Green colored wire. For safe operation, it is connected to the park brake wire, so when the vehicle is in the park, and you have the parking brake engaged you can enjoy the video displayed on the screen. Thanks!

For the Pixel you need to install Miracast. Google removed it several versions back to force people over to their competing Chromecast platform. They are NOT the same. Enabling Miracast requires some messing around in the system files, so you'll need to root the phone and possibly install a different ROM. There's more info on this XDA thread:

There is no dedicated mirroring source on the DMX706S, so you would have to use the receiver's AV-Input with our CA-C3AV cable and third party adapters that connect to a compatible phone to view something from a phone on the receiver.
Would this be the same for the DMX 7706S? Because I dont think I have a AV input.

I wish I would have read these comment before I dropped $800!!! Bullshit! Not working with my s10 plus. This is the only freaking reason I got this unit!!!! My phone will not work... should have gone with a $400 android head unit! Kenwood really needs to get their shit together, or warn potential customers. $800 ain't cheap!

If someone out there actually owns one of these units and can get this to work, please post here with what model your phone is. This almost seems too good to be true.

Although you can open and operate apps from the phone on the car screen, you can't go back to the original screen without using the phone. You also have to have the parking brake set to use this feature so why not just use your phone. Phone has better screen resolution and you can still listen to the sound over the stereo.
Just ground the parking break wire... done.

Nope it doesn't just a blank screen. Will display the subtitle that's it. Hulu same thing. I can't get it to display any videos on my dmx907s with Samsung s20 ultra. Wireless mirroring won't work period. USB will link but videos won't display. E brake up car not moving doesn't matter
@@blackandblown I have the same problem as you, my s10 plus is doing the same thing.
This feature is worthless and doesn't work on Android or apple.
It took me forever to even get usb mirroring to work and it's still flakey.
It will not mirror any video content other than youtube. Hulu, amazon, Netflix, HBO, etc... will work until you play something. Audio plays but video does not. Very disappointed.
