In the original Warhammer Community article, they said the Plague Marines were going to be put on the app as a full team to download the rules for later in the year.
I have been follwoing KT for 4 years. I've only played 2 games and only have 1 team which was a compendium team, now I have 0 valid teams. I've no terrain, no board. I've preordered this and for the cost of 1.5 teams, i now have 2 teams, a board, rules, tokens, terrain. I can now do solo play with this. Outstanding value. I can live with the lack of core rules and lite team rules. As you said i can run the stinky boys as legionaires while we wait for the full rules.
This does look like it passes the Christmas morning test. I've been bought into Kill Team since Octarious but ordered this to set up for when nephews etc come to visit over the holiday period.
I hope this can be a great start for my son and I to get into kill team. I’ve always wanted to try different 40K armies, but that is a huge barrier. Getting different kill teams from different races would be tons of fun, and an on ramp into rules should be super helpful.
I also think they should have just add the core rules at the back of the starter or a one time qr code for the app that will let you access the full rules there
The thing that strikes me odd about this MDF terrain is simply that there is no vantage terrain. While I'm no engineer, I can certainly imagine a way that they could have had two of these ruins have a simply second floor to stand on.
@@SPACENOMADMALEV no point in having vantage terrain if theres no vantage rules in the box. The rules included are for whats in the box, not kill team proper.
I know you already said you're wrong but the footnote at the bottom of the killteam starter set article on warcom says... "* Yes, this means there'll be rules for Plague Marine Kill Teams appearing on Warhammer Community and in the Kill Team app in the coming weeks." just in case anyone was confused. We will be getting a full death guard kill team whatever form that may take.
If they release the two kill teams separately those'll come with the team specific tokens, which you don't get in this starter. I hope they release them separately but I' not holding my breath!
I'm really hoping the DG do get a similar treatment to AoD in that it offers a bit of list building with a mix in of the original compendium, I had a really fun compendium team that I kitbashed/converted about a month before the edition change announcement so they didn't see any use

It is very interesting. It is very much targeted as a starter/beginner box but will likely just sell to vets wanting the models. If you want to play the real game one has to likely buy hivestorm so hopefully that stays in print.
Are Angels of Death rules going to be updated to a 5 man squad? Cause with current rules on app and warcom and just with the models in this set, one dude will be mising, cause currently you can only have one heavy or eliminator or one sergeant or captain.
@@chromarush1749 two warriors, one intercessor warrior, one captain, one sergeant, one heavy, one eliminator. You can only have one of sergeant/captain and one of heavy/eliminator. So, you can only take 5 models in total but with current online rules angels of death team must be 6 man squad.
You can play the sergent as a normal intercessor (I don't even recognise which is the sergent!) and each time you make a kill team with an eliminator or heavy.

I have already a 5 man assault intercessor squad so also no problem for me anyway if i get this box in the future lol. But maybe for some new players? I'm a new guy who just bought, painted and played Introductory Set and now I wonder what should I pick next. Kill Team Starter, Ultimate Starter or maybe I should go deeper and get Hivestorm? Any advice for a novice?

I'd recommend checking out my Hivestorm review as I think that will answer a few questions, but from the sounds of it right now you've got to decide between 40k and Kill Team. Very different games! If you decide kill team then I think this starter set is a great first purchase
@@GlassHalfDead I will not be getting into full scale WH40k. So I'm thinking Combat Patrol or Kill Team. All of these sets are quite cool. Hivestorm is most expensive but it has full rules and terrain looks awsome. Ultimate Set has 2 patrols and some basic but still cool terrain and Kill Team Starter is cheapest and easiest but also kind of lacking in rules and "real" terrain. I will surely look into your vidoes. So hard to decide when you can only pick one!
@@Wooki3 obviously I'm biased, but I would say kill team. Mainly because it's a "real" game unlike combat patrol. Combat patrol is basically the intro to 40k game that never really caught on, because everyone who plays it moves on to 40k eventually. Whereas kill team is a totally separate ruleset designed to be the skirmish game that it is. However the best game is always the one that you can actually get games of, so if lots of people near you are exclusively combat patrol players, go with that. But for my money, I'd say kill team starter set is an easy buy. Great beginner teams. Hivestorm is lovely terrain and a huge hobby project, great if you want to spend that much money. As for the teams in hivestorm, if they appeal to you then it's an easy buy.

This is how damage reduction abilities work in the new edition. People didn't much care for the 5+ fnp, was too swingy. The thing is, you really don't care about being shot by a 2/3 gun. If your marine is getting shot by a lasgun, they aren't taking damage, so that's fine.
So I want this set as i wanted it to start playing KT, but these are not full teams as I wanted teams to play a full game of KT, I have no one to play at home only at the store. I thought this where 2 full playable teams with their rules. Should I just grab a kill team on its own?
There are already full rules for the Angels of Death and DG will have theirs by the time this hits the stores. To have all the options for the teams you will need to buy more, but that's true for several kill teams. It is the best way to start Angels of Death and should be at least OK for DG.

New rules for Death Guard Suck. Disgusting Resilience is not even worth it now. The previous rule was great. There was actually a chance of surviving some pretty crazy hits. Now it makes me just ever so slightly more resilient than a normal space marine. THIS TEAM IS A WET NOODLE MAN. XD. Also I think that terrain is gonna be a problem from this point further and we will see them supplement it into other boxes in the future
These very clearly are not the full rules. Team wide DR is fine as long as they get more stuff too, which they will. Come on, man, we know this. AOD get chapter tactics which defines them way more than shooting or fighting twice. I'm down with MDF terrain!

I know they aren't the full rules but I really feel like Disgusting Resilience (DR) in it's current form is just Bad Playing the old Death Guard team was so satisfying with just how much punishment you could take. Scenario: (Because we have all been here) An Intercessor Sgt. and a Plague Champion both take 4 regular hits from a super charged plasma rifle. (The dice gods hate us) The Intercessor Sgt. Takes 20 damage and Is guaranteed dead. (Now the dice gods LOVE!! me) I roll all 6s for my DR rule! Yay 1/3 chance. I reduce it to 16 damage. My Plague Marine Champion is dead.
So disappointed by the fake "plague marines" kill team. Not disappointed buy this "starter" box as it is exactly what I expected from GW: a very bad starter set, only a light version that will force you to buy more stuff to play to real game
But it will be a real team when the rules release (presumably in 2 weeks). It's only this early access issue that makes it not a real team. And as someone who has recently got a bunch of stuff from other wargames like Warmachine and Infinity... I legit wish they had as good a starter set and at such a low cost. I struggle to see this set as not a total win (in relation to other wargames I'm currently interested in). I've got a banger of an anti-gw video lined up for next week, I'm not a GW glazer, but more games need offerings like this, seriously.
At the end of the day, the starter set really is just a free sampler that you pay for. You know how at Costco they have those free food samplers to taste? Well done GW - you managed to put a price on those free samplers 😂! Again, gotta love the sales strategy: once the newbies/ beginners figure out they bought an incomplete set - they’re forced to buy the other items individually. But it also works the other way around - because GW stripped a lot of important setup details in the Core Rulebook - so only previous players will have an inkling of how to run the game. This explains why the core rulebook is so anemic compared to last edition’s. And don’t give me that ballsack that it’s because they simplified the rules. There’s a lot of stuff in the core rules that would make a beginner scratch their head - and I’ll waiver that it’s all covered in the starter set rulebook. It’s brilliant - take the rulebook and cut it in two and sell each at full price!!!

Absolutely. They just had to put a bit of James W's special lube (coarse sand) on the dildo when you think you're getting what you actually want.

Vantage is definitely one of the crunchier rules so I wonder if that was a design choice to keep it simple.

In case this isn't a reference/joke, it is the old KT 2021 way of measuring, using colored shapes instead of inches.
They might release compendium 2024 book which include core rule.

It's just a tutorial showing you how to play the game. It doesn't even go as far as pvp or pve. It's just how do you roll dice and move.

I really hope disgustingly resilient will be different in the full version. Against many teams (anything with 2/3 guns) this will be mostly useless!
