Great video. Makes a lot of sense. I just bought Hive Storm as my first intro to Kill Team. The solo option was the reason because I don’t get to play with others often. I’ll probably use Five Parsecs from Home to expand on the world setting and create campaigns.
This has me excited. I haven't played WH40k since 8e, and thought I would get into kill team and introduce my wife to her first wargame. She loves playing zombicide and this looks like a great way to get into it without overwhelming her.

Awesome video, hit so many notes with me but the biggest one that appeals to me is that this play mode will sit so well with my status as a hobby butterfly with a wide range of random units and models.
I wonder if you could do 2v1 coop. Instead of the coop team taking 2 halves of a killteam, they both take their own killteam. And the other single player "DMs" their own killteam and the autonomous baddies (preferably of the same faction)

I must say since your vespid video and my decision to pick up the whole box I’m looking forward to it more and more.
This is ideal for me. I got into 40k a few months ago, and my brother basically pestered me with it. 😃 And that's when I learned how robust the lore is. Instantly hooked.

this was dope actually. I've been most interested in the co-op/solo mode advertized for this edition, but the gaming channels are more focused on matched play. This was the info I was looking for and also you should consider doing more of these "podcast-style" videos, in my humble opinion. I thought it was great,.
I'll need to look through the joint-op mode myself, but I largely agree with your takes. Biggest positives about the mode for me is, that it uses the full kill-team rules and NPC behaviour is very simple. So brewing your own enemies, scenarios or even campaigns will be reasonably simple.
I was sad to see the narrative campaign spec ops mode go away, but very excited for the solo and co-op modes to be added so I can get my friends into KT ❤
Oh kae. You mentioned loathing the pep rally bullcrap that corporate jobs hawk at you and went up to possibly my favorite minipainting channel and youtuber. Mad props Darcy.
Haha well glad you appreciate it! If you've seen Anchorman, that scene with the morning meeting was 1000% me in corporate land: (ua-cam.com/video/ITZZyvkZJUs/v-deo.htmlsi=DyKTbV7Qrzf4MbGv).
I'm primarily a painter, but I love narrative play. I've loved boxed games like Star Wars Imperial Assault, or Warhammer Quest because it gives me a bunch of cool models to paint, and then lets me make them fight. I grabbed Hivestorm for the solo/co-op play, and even to use as a light TTRPG. Older editions have a unit progression and injury system I intend to adapt, and I think a lot of the narrative focused missions they release could easily be adapted for solo/co-op play or be run that way with a game master arbitrating the "NPO"s. I haven't been buying 40k models, but now I'm looking at how to get enough of every faction to have as "NPO"s so I can tell different stories on the tabletop. I definitely agree that it's a great way to learn to play, it will be how my family and I learn for sure, but I also think the sky is the limit. It's a simple system, but I think that serves it well because it doesn't take much to tweak it and make it fit your needs
My wife is exactly like you, Primarily a painter but does like the games. Often times she would find herself trying to play games and the opponent is far more well versed in the strategy of the game (me) or is far more competitive (Someone who is not me) so this mode I think will be PERFECT for us. We can play games TOGETHER as apposed to her getting frustrated as she loses to my team or gets paired against someone in a game night at the FLGS who totally wants to play the most ultra meta tournament lists and knows all the ins and outs of how to play the game best. Its what discouraged her back when we played Warmachine Mark II, This should allow both of us to get in more games because she will want to play more if she knows that it won't always be her on the losing end of things.
INteresting, the reply I saw a notification for about not needing to win and scaling back against my wife is gone, I guess it was removed. Anyway, It's not that I want to win against her or wouldn't scale back its that she's the kind of person who would see that I was scaling back and would say "I don't want to play if you're just letting me win" and is also the kind of person that you could go over the strategy with her many times and she would give up before she got better enough to feel confidant in winning She just totally doesn't enjoy competitive games in any sense of the word (Except for Mario kart, She loves to OWN Me hardcore at mario kart and its the one competitive game she's really good at)
@evileyeball Yep I blocked the guy from the channel, was hoping his notifications wouldn't show up as a result. He's just a troll. He left 3 more toxic replies to on other people so I said "Hide user from channel* The guy's just a loser with nothing better to do with his time 😄.
I have played the solo game a few times now. I've played Krieg as NPO against Angels of Death Salamanders so far. The Krieg were beaten comfortably each time. I think they need more than the 90 or 70 wounds. Now I'm doing the reverse and the games are closer.
The "do what is worst for you" is such a smart thing in solo game variants (obvs KT is not the first doing this). Great learning mechanism where you have none of the negative emotions of a human doing "the worst thing" to you, and you automatically have a perfectly balanced enemy who is exactly at your skill level :)
I'm so happy with the co-op.. Mostly a painter, love a game, but don't like competitive games that much, co-op ones tho I love! So warhammer quest was my fav, but tricky to get a group going. Now I can just infinite a buddy over for a beer and a co-op game! I finished a whole bunch of traitor guards just for this, the blooded killteam with a whole lot i gathered over the years from BSF. Can't wait for tomorrow!
Man, I LOVE these models! I swear I'm trying to pay attention and listen to the info she is giving me but I keep pausing the video to check out these sick minis! Ahhhh! And such! I assume she painted them and if so she is mad talented! If not then props to the artist(s)
I feel you on the constant moving and having to re-establish a gaming group; I've spent the last 19 years in the military, so moving on average every 2 years was the norm for me. I'm definitely looking forward to these rules to get my grips on the game while I slowly start looking for a local group.
This video has single handedly convinced me to get the rule book and try this out! Now I’m so stoked to grab some nids and do a swarming scenario with my kids too!
If I wasn't busy with my Orks and Dornian Heresy Nurgle Blood Angels, I'd totally like to paint up some Guardsmen or Space Marines in the style of those green army men figures (like the ones shown in the Toy Story movies)
Excellent video! As for the game design, as usual it's funny how there are hundreds of game designers our there trying to figure out and solve NPC AI, fixing randomization issues, design solo mechanics, and James Workshop as usual goes: or maybe we just don't do any that, and release anyway? And people are gonna buy it because of the absolutely immense marketing budget and enfrancisement... XD
I haven’t really gotten into Kill Team before, but I think with this edition In going to take the plunge. You mentioned that co-op isn’t meant for experienced players. That may be the case for now, but I hope over time it grows into a fully- developed multiplayer ‘PvE’ mode that can challenge experienced players as well. What I’m saying is, I want co-op Space Hulk. Also - love the color scheme on your Tau Pathfinders!
im thinking when i play with my friend, im gonna put some extra stats to some units, specially the "warrior"(as i think is the weakest), 5 dice, maybe some devastation, maybe a plasma, some better saves o +1 to both damage, idk, maybe simply add more units, but i feel it is kinda easy just reading it
Hi, Darcy! Great video; I'm stoked we are getting a co-op option for anything 40K :) I'm a little bummed because I have been working on a companion app to potentially "automate" an army and incorporate a lot of similar concepts. All for the sake of playing single player or co-op. Do you think there's still a place for something like that?
I just wish they had managed to design automa's moves in a less cumbersome way. It may happen that operating automa moves takes more time than actually playing yourself, creating downtime and disengagement. Many board games with solo modes have already moved behind the stage of thinking that automa needs to do the same things players do. It needs to produce player-like results, not perform all player-like processes. I recommend checking Terra Mystica and its automa mode, which is pure genius. Operating it is lightning quick and it produces game states like a nasty player, full of surprises.
Meh, like I said I don't game very often and still found it easy to operate. I think the "do what's worse" rule overrides any clunkyness. And like I said in another comment. I never said it was "the best" co-op mode, but rather a way to enjoy Warhammer 40k in a co-op setting. Thank you for the game recommendation though.
It sounds like the enemies need some randomness to make them less predictable. Like they do something based on a card draw or dice roll. With maybe even changing their behaviour deck based on how wounded they are.
That's actually my main game! I've been a big fan since it came out, but sadly there isn't much of a scene where I've moved to. I do play when I go to the big cons like Adepticon though.
Sorry not yet! I painted them for a commission way back before I was making regular tutorial content. I do have a written guide for the armor though: ko-fi.com/post/Black-and-Orange-Tau-Painting-Process-V7V7AN36J
Speaking of cardboard cutouts. The 2nd edition starter set for Warhammer 40k that came out in 1993 had a cardboard cutout in the box for a Ork Dreadnought.
"Ju want axe?" I used Zuljin as a nickname for a long time as a kid after helping him escape from his prison when playing Warcraft 2. But with the rise in popularity for World of Warcraft and Zul'Aman raid many started using Zul'jin as a nickname. So I changed to the name of my Goblin Shaman in Warhammer Online.
I wasn’t going to touch kill team. I’m not a lover of the almost fixed nature of the teams. But with solo I can mix and match the teams I want. Not to mention the narrative nature of missions I can make. A mix of specialists from different imperial teams head into a tyranid hive to blow it to bits. Sign me up for that.
This 10000% I feel like the Tyranids offer some of the craziest "what if" options for this new mode. Either that or a Necrom Tomb world where the terrain has like crazy security systems that try and kill you too 🤔
@@DarcyBonoCreations totally. It could be like the tng crew going onto a Borg cube. As they go through the steps stuff starts to wake up. Don’t do it fast enough and something really nasty comes after you. A cool narrative thread running across your games.
Could you have more than two people in co-op mode as long as you're all pretty equal in wounds? Because this mode engaged with 3 or 4 players opens up some really cool role playing game potential. I would love to get together with a group and have us play together as a rag tag team of mismatched plucky grim dark adventurers.
I don't see why not! That's a great idea, especially for teams with a larger body count. There are also missions for 3-4 players (versus mode though) in the book if you wanna go that route
Have you tried OPR Grimdark Skirmish? You can use any models for it, including these! I don't play Kill Team or AOS/40k because GW does not respect their customers time ( or money).
Thanks for the recommendation. I've heard of One Page Rules but haven't played them. You do you; I don't have a problem with GW. They've done some screwy things since I started 20 years ago, but not to the point where I feel I need to look elsewhere.

I’m still waiting my new Killteam box. Hopefully it will ship this week.
cool video. I hope the co-op takes off for KT. I'm looking forward to it very much so I hope it does well
Man, I LOVE these models! I swear I'm trying to pay attention and listen to the info she is giving me but I keep pausing the video to check out these sick minis! Ahhhh! And such! I assume she painted them and if so she is mad talented! If not then props to the artist(s)
Well thank you! They are indeed all painted by me over the last few years.
I feel you on the constant moving and having to re-establish a gaming group; I've spent the last 19 years in the military, so moving on average every 2 years was the norm for me. I'm definitely looking forward to these rules to get my grips on the game while I slowly start looking for a local group.
The Night lords look amazing! As are the Orc boyz. And your husband does really awesome terrain work.
Thank you very much! 😊
I didn't know killteam supported coop and solo but now this has me interested.
Super insightful, very great to know!
I was JUST looking for a video on how it works!
I enjoyed this! More rambles please 🙂❤️🙌
As a certified Misanthrope, Solo versions are always the way to go for me!!
Oh my god, I was not ready for the (human) skin tone tau. Talk about a jump scare, looking down at my phone and seeing that 😂
Really cool selling point for the game, and a great positive aspect to it.
Damn, your minis are GORGEOUS!
Your painting is amazing!!
XD
This is interesting. Solo play would really work for me too.
I've loved horde mode with my partner and them controlling the horde so I think this will be a perfect smaller game for us to enjoy
Beautiful painting!
0:48 IN MIDNIGHT PLAID
How...did I not think of THAT 😂
A Horde Mode for Kill team. I might have to get around to my into the dark box sooner than I was planing on.
im thinking when i play with my friend, im gonna put some extra stats to some units, specially the "warrior"(as i think is the weakest), 5 dice, maybe some devastation, maybe a plasma, some better saves o +1 to both damage, idk, maybe simply add more units, but i feel it is kinda easy just reading it
thx for resumen , good job 😉👌
Warhammer 40k you can play alone and without commitment to 2k point army. Trully the best time of Warhammer 40k
Hi, Darcy! Great video; I'm stoked we are getting a co-op option for anything 40K :)
I'm a little bummed because I have been working on a companion app to potentially "automate" an army and incorporate a lot of similar concepts.
All for the sake of playing single player or co-op.
Do you think there's still a place for something like that?
Hey ur night lords look amazing
Great video!
Do you have any instructional content on the Tau pathfinders? That paintjob is sick!
More recently got into painting. But haven't hit enough points to play a regular 40k game. Maybe I'll target kill team for actual play.
I have posted three comments now cuz I have enjoyed ever aspect of this video and I had to say as such. /The Look/ friggin killed me.
Man thank you so much, you're always so supportive! And yeah, poor Mr. Bono 😆
Yaopooo this looks real cool and I wanna play this
A killteam (ie arbetes)dealing with a poxwalker swarm
your a very good painter
It sounds like the enemies need some randomness to make them less predictable. Like they do something based on a card draw or dice roll. With maybe even changing their behaviour deck based on how wounded they are.
That's a great idea. Maybe roll a D6 and on a 5+ they do something different or even extra and you draw a card to determine what it is.
Ave Dominus Nox Sister great models
I highly recommend WarCry.
And making a solo / co op mode is very easy to do at WarCry.
That's actually my main game! I've been a big fan since it came out, but sadly there isn't much of a scene where I've moved to. I do play when I go to the big cons like Adepticon though.

but those Tau, incredible! I there a video of that?
Sorry not yet! I painted them for a commission way back before I was making regular tutorial content. I do have a written guide for the armor though: ko-fi.com/post/Black-and-Orange-Tau-Painting-Process-V7V7AN36J
Speaking of cardboard cutouts. The 2nd edition starter set for Warhammer 40k that came out in 1993 had a cardboard cutout in the box for a Ork Dreadnought.
Thanks Zul'jin! 😀
Your profile pick hit me right in the nostalgia. He had one of my favorite pics in Warcraft 2.
"Ju want axe?"
I used Zuljin as a nickname for a long time as a kid after helping him escape from his prison when playing Warcraft 2.
This 10000%
I feel like the Tyranids offer some of the craziest "what if" options for this new mode.
Hi Mrs Bono!. Does your husband happen to be a member of a very famous band?
🤫
0:27 Same.
And mine aren't good miniatures, let me tell you that.
@@DarcyBonoCreations oh the possibilities! Eeeeeee!
