I've never seen so many absolutely hideous fashion failures in one place! There were like 5 dresses that I really loved. The rest were mostly various levels of hideous, or failed in a critically important feature that ruined the look.
That red number on Heidi was stunning, the pink ensemble on Jennifer Lopez was amazing, the black, flowered asymmetrical neck gown Rachel wore was lovely, & that gorgeous purple gown that Oprah (who I truly despise) wore stood out as favorites. There were a few others that were really pretty but so many missed on either tailoring or a small (but crucial) design flaw. Overall, I'm shocked at all the failures. These super stiff satins rarely work, & the mostly naked dresses have got to go!
Thanks for another highly enjoyable video, breaking down the details of fashion, fit & style. You're always so kind with your criticism, yet put your finger on exactly what failed or flew. Luv ya Honey! 💗
Totally agree!
I get why Oprah wore purple, quite smart actually, but it really is a color that looks amazing on her. The only thing I did not like about her dress is it didn’t seem comfortable. I’m betting when she got home and took it off it was a wonderful moment. She just looked like she couldn’t breathe. Loved both Jennifer Lopez and Lawrence’s dresses. And even Brie Larson’s.
Although I hate to give it to her, Oprah rocked that purple dress.....
I liked Emma Stone and Taylor Swift 😂😂😂😂
Definitely seen enough naked dresses. They aren’t classy or elegant. If they weren’t on the red carpet, you’d expect to see them on a darkly lit street corner
Natalie Portman's dress was absolutely exquisite. ******
So is Natalie Portman
Agreed.
Ugh, I thought Meryl Streep looked ridiculous.
it did nothing to flatter her
The fashion houses seem to have lost the ability to make supportive, flattering bodices for dresses. All the money for ill fitting, unflattering tops that make boobs look floppy and widely spaced.Heidi Klum showed them how it’s done.
agree
Totally agree. The bust area on most of the dresses looks so wrong.
@@Debs1233 Especially on those ladies who need the most support, surely they can see that the breasts are very large ergo more material is required.Like trying to squish gg cups into a c cup bra!
Cathy, you are so right. One of the loveliest parts of the female body is the breasts. Failure to understand how to drape or support the bust line will often mar the rest of the design. The great couturiers understood this for over 150 years, but something seems to have been lost.
@@JD-ku6vdNone of these designers like women. For starters.
That “garden” dress looked like a Monet painting! Gorgeous! So agree about so many dresses were “falling down”.
Ok I have to disagree with you on Emily Blunt’s dress. I normally love her styles, but this was a big fail for me. I am so tired of feeling like I am looking at lingerie and like I am in the bedroom with these actresses!! It was too short and revealing. It fit her well, and I liked the detail of the beading and the color of gold, but enough with the feeling of being barely dressed. I thought it was too raunchy for her. I guess I am old fashioned, because I really dislike these extremely revealing looks. It comes off as trashy and desperate. Those are two words that I would normally never associate with her. I mean, in an unexpected contrast, Jennifer Lopez looked tasteful. That pink dress was much more what I would normally see EB in. Please go back to that! I am alone in this?
Yes I agree it appears to be trashy.
Many of the dresses looked like lingerie, exposed shapewear, etc.
@ParrotplaySix I find it strange, but maybe it's because I'm older
Emma Stone looked amazing.
@@carolyndymond4065 Just because it's young, new or modern doesn't mean it's good. Style is not a question of age
Designers are overly focused on pushing "agenda" rather than creating something of beauty which serves as a backdrop to that of the wearer. Case in point: Princess Catherine's attire never outshines "her." Says much about the Hollow-wood self-perception.
The Natalie Portman dress was phenomenal.
Some very beautiful fabrics, but most of the dresses did not flatter the bust lines. I agree that a lot of them looked like they were falling down. And I don't like the "smashed" boob look.
I agree with your comment on the “Smashed boob look ! “
Makes them look the exact opposite of “perky! “
I don’t know why women choose this look & I sure as hell think the designers must hate women’s bodies ! 👀
The gradation of Portman's dress was beautiful. I thought the top though was too simple...those narrow straps suddenly made it look like a spring dress instead of an evening gown.
Her dress is my #1!! 😍
It WAS beautiful. And happy !
@@stellaallbright4750
I felt it needed a necklace
I think the straps being so narrow gave her the shape of a bottle; maybe something like cap sleeves would have been more balanced.
Natalie's dress looks like it was inspired by Monet's Water Lilies. Gorgeous beadwork.
Great review! I appreciate you going into details as to why a dress works, what might have improved it or why it should have stayed on the designer’s sketch pad!😂 So much better than hearing “I love it/I hate it”. ❤
Don't like Jennifer Lopez, ***BUT*** this is absolutely my favorite look of the evening.
In my opinion Florence Pugh’s stylist hates her. There’s no reason for all her looks to not be cohesive. There’s always one element of her look that just makes me scratch my head and ask why would they pair that with that 😂
Natalie Portman was my favorite by far. That Dior dress was stunning.
Rosamund Pike was in a skiing accident and had a lot of injury to her face. The hat was designed to hide the bruising. 💜
Yes! Thank you, I thought I had read that somewhere.
she pulled it off. I thought it was a risky look, but executed it well
Well, I'm glad there's an explanation, because although the dress was beautiful, I thought the hat was ridiculous. Makes more sense now.
Me too. But the hat looked like an overeager space helmet. They could have done just a regular hat with a veil and had a couple of those flowery things on her arms placed on the veil, strategically. I generally don't like see-through long sleeves but this was done perfectly with those flowery things.@@ThepupsnameisBrian
Jennifer Lopez was true elegance . Loved it!
For me, Emily Stone's dress, so missed the mark with the low cut neck and a slit that was way too high. All I kept doing was bouncing between the two. I think if the slit down the middle was not there at all, it would have given it a far more Hollywood sophistication. I fabric was stunning.
I agree
And it really washed her out.
Also it wasn't fitted right too loose it was
Yes. Went I judge these gowns, I think if I would be comfortable wearing them. Stone's gown would make me very uneasy. A wrong move and I'd expose body parts that I'd rather not.
I can see people are going back to nice wearable flattering gowns. I am happy about that. I thought the last 7-8 years were ridiculous red carpets with trashy or clownish outfits.
You're so right, it looked like everybody was trying to be the next Lady Gaga. Change my mind.
Almost every problem is the lack of foundation garments.
Beebs, you did a fabulous job on this! Thank you for critiquing so many of the people there. I appreciate all of your hard work. ❤
Florence Pugh was channeling Flock of Seagulls with that hairdo. She was partying like it was 1982. Pity it didn't harmonize with the dress.
Yessss!
That was my thought as well.
I thought more 50's guy hair, with lots of grease.
She thinks she’s edgy.
Ewwww the hair
I love embroidery. I’ve been embroidering since my great grandmother taught me at age 5. 62 years! I’m sure Oprah wore The Color Purple for a reason. 😂
I love embroidery too and my mam taught me when I was 5 as well. Infact I was doing some cross-stitch whilst watching this video. =)
@@ClareM-ef6cl lacy crochet...that's my forte. It's not an old lady's pastime. (I am an old lady).
You are my favorite fashion commentator! You have a knack of breaking down the pros and cons of each outfit and your videos hold my attention from start to finish. Thanks for all your hard work!!!
She is great!
I agree. She is the best and knows fashion. I agreed on every dress.
I loved, loved, loved Natalie Portman's dress. You're right, Beebs, it really was a work of art.
I agree with you but I wish she had smiled.
I loved all the pink dresses worn that day, JLO, Margot Robbie and haile steinfeld, very beautiful looks !
Oprah looked like she was channeling Mae West.
that is what I couldn't place, great comparison.
Jennifer Lopez’s pink dress was spectacular.
Your commentary is spot on. I love listening to you!
I don’t like her personally but Natalie Portman’s dress was exquisite…the gradient on the skirt was pure art
Can I ask what you dislike about Natalie Portman? I don't know a lot about her but I've never heard anything negative.
I don't like her either. Her politics is very pushy and soapboxy and in your face.
I agree. I just feel irritated when I see her.
I agree. I just feel irritated when I see her.
I agree. I just feel irritated when I see her.
When the video got to Steinfeld, I thought Audrey Hepburn! Two seconds later you said “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. I love it when I agree with you almost immediately.
Love the video!
I just want to say thank you for explaining what you liked, what you didn't and why, and how you'd fix it. By the end, I was like, "Oh, they should have shortened the straps on that one," because you'd made me see how that would improve the look. I appreciated that you didn't just say, "oh, that's an ugly dress." You explained that, "oh, that panel brings your eye up and highlights that part of the dress," so I understood why it wasn't a flattering look.
I’m just amazed at the amount of work you put into this, it’s perfection and it was really entertaining to watch! so thank you!
Thank you so much!
Agree!! I kept checking on the channel, waiting for her take on these dresses. I was not disappointed!
LOVED Natalie Portman. It was so colourful, adored the beading, great for her body type but also recognises she's pretty Orthodox and never wears outrageous. I also liked Julianne Moore, saw nothing wrong with top half.
Emily Blunt dress a bit strange for me. It was basically a teddy with sheer skirt over it to make it less rap singer outfit.
But then again, what do I know?
Natalie Portman’s dress is my favourite. 👌🏻
I still think a soft bun instead of a ponytail would have looked better on Natalie Portman....the harsh pulled back hair could have been a bit softer IMO. 😊
@@lynettefinnigan9540 I think she’s going through a tough time in her personal life. Perhaps her hair style indicates that? Just thinking out loud. 👌🏻
@lynettefinnigan9540 she didn't look happy, but that's not really surprising considering her marriage is in trouble.
Bonitajordan Yes, Ms Portman's dress my favourite too. Gorgeous.
There were some extremely pretty dresses and some nightmares, as Beebs explained.
I love listening to you. You are so good at what you do. Thank you for the work you put into your videos.
I appreciate that!
I was just going to say the exact same thing.
I love Dior, but didn’t like the funny sleeve on Jennifer Lawrence. Rosamund Pike’s look was gorgeous, but Natalie Portman’s gown was stunning. She always looks beautiful. I also loved Hunter Schafer’s look, like she stepped out of a Gainsborough painting. I think Emma Stone looked gorgeous, as she always does. I don’t like a deep V neckline with a high front slit, for some reason. The embroidery on that dress was amazing.
Excellent review! Thanks
Bring back yesteryear gowns! These were mostly hideous! 😣
And they're getting worse.
I agree with your perspective on the faulty clothing design. You seem to have a knowledge in the fashion industry. I, too, disliked the pointed dress front. Why would you even be drawn to a style with so much discomfort visually and figuratively.
Thanks Beeps for a well thought out and entertaining broadcast.
The Dya Lipa dress looks like the designer wanted us all to know exactly where
her ribs and fallopian tubes are located! 😂😂😂
that one & the reptilian one were hideous
I LOVED Heidi's gorgeous red dress! Just beautiful! And hated the freestanding spikes that reached the ears of the poor lady who chose that unfortunate dress.
I absolutely love your choice of words to describe fashion. Thoughtful, colorful and well chosen. I could say more. Your voice is pleasant to listen to as well. I’m glad to have found you.
That was an excellent review of the gowns. I could not have agreed with you more. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕
America always looks impeccable! Love your review, you are never overly critical of the person but always positive and gentle, no body shaming. You are a class act! Still wish I could go shopping with you! 😁
Not a fan of Jennifer Lopez, but I must say that her gown was the epitome of "pretty" in every way, including her styling. Wow, a nod to real Hollywood.
The only change I would have suggested for her would be to have a LITTLE difference in the color between dress and "cape". The all-petal-pink-and-nothing-else put me in mind of a boudoir ensemble. I expected her to be wearing a pair of matching pink marabou heeled mules Maybe keep that color for the cape, but make the dress itself either somewhat (but noticeably) lighter, or with a touch of pale mauve in the pink.
@@merriemisfit8406 That would work!
THANK YOU for doing the Golden Globes!!
Most of the designers failed the ladies in the bust areas, they need to learn women have boobs and design more like they did for the old time movie stars, thankyou
totally!!
I wasn't sure about the length of the video but found myself engrossed & your pacing, comments & analysis was AWESOME! I always learn from you.
I love the colour of Helen Mirren's dress. She often wears things that really flatter her figure.
Would you speak to the elegance of Gina Torres? She looked comfortable, incredibly confident and beautiful.
GRREN is my favorite color, olive really but that shade was fabulous on TS!
❤ My fav was Heidi’s!! It would be so fun to wear! An un-tragic res dress!!
Ohhhhhhhhh this was so fun!!! 👏🏻 Thank you Beebs, you’re a treasure.
Without a doubt, the BEST coverage of the Golden Globes fashion! Great Job Beebs! This was a feast for my soul!❤
This was fun!
Anything anyone says about JLo, she still has a great body and still looks fantastic and still looks good in whatever and picks the right outfits for the event shes at ❤❤❤❤
Ooh I’ve been waiting for this. Some beautiful looks this year and I thought that the men upped their game too.
You are an incredibly talented fashion commentator. Your reviews, opinions and solutions are 4 star for me.
You are the best on the internet, Beebs!
I really enjoyed this review of Golden globe gowns
i love how you pointed out that it sometimes is NOT just the dress but tailoring, alteration, and ironing ......FIT ...cutting off loose ends itself can make all the difference.
Oprah dress was absolutely divine. I used to love her, but after the Harry and Megan interview, I do not, but I would wear that dress absolutely
I agree. I loved the gown but not the woman wearing it.
Beebs will you ever design your own collection? You know your stuff!
❤❤❤
Agreed. You nailed the GG looks. Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Portman were so on point. Loved their dresses!
She really does.
Great Question
I want to go shopping with Beebs!
JLo, Brie Larson and the lady that wore the pink version of Audrey Hepburn's dress (sorry, I don't know her name) are the only ones I can say that looked flawless. There were other dresses and looks that I liked, however there was always an issue with tailoring or styling.
Great episode! My very favorites in order were 1) Natalie Portman 2) Carrie Mulligan 3) Hallie Seinfeld 4) Jennifer Lawrence. The dresses and styling were all perfect. I think the most important thing is for the dress to flatter and enhance, so that the person is wearing the dress and the dress is not wearing the person. Spectacularly achieved by all these ladies. Selena Gomez looked like the dress was wearing her. For some reason it reminded me of the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland. It made her look short and wide. Not good. I don't understand the excitement about Emma Stone's dress. Yes, the embroidery was impressive. But the shape of the dress was not good. The V neck was too low and the slit was too high.
That Selena dress was really awful, it looked like the designer ran out of material. I also thought Emma Stones dress didn't suit her at all- the low v neck made her look very flat chested.
I liked Selina Gomez' gown even though I agree it made her look short and busty. But she is short and busty and that's fine - the gown was wild and exuberant and she looked beautiful regardless. Normally I don't like costumey gowns but this one worked.
I totally agree on Emma stones dress; The V too deep, the slit too high; she's also very pale for that color in my opinion. I also wish the top of Selena's dress was a little different; the bottom half and the color were stunning on her.
Apparently Rosamund Pike had fallen (maybe skiing - I don't remember) and had pretty significant facial abrasions that had improved but not completely by Golden Globe night.
Jlo’s dress & coat looked beautiful, especially the colour. I think a necklace or thick choker would have been nice too. There was a serious lack of jewelry at the GG’s , imo.
I think the lack of jewelry is in my opinion an attempt to be "less opulent" because of the current state of the world. Probably most of them don't actually care, but want to portray a good image, and we are all well acquainted by now to their need to virtue-signal every chance they get. But that's just a theory. Leaving that aside, I think more jewelry on JLo would have been too noisy because of the dramatic opera coat that was clearly the focal point, but I don't think it would have been necessarily bad either.
I agree the simple jewelry look has been in for a while, I think so it won't outshine the dress.
Beebs, this is my favorite video so far. I loved the longer format. You have such a keen eye but a big heart. Kudos to you for proper critiques, instead of being unkind and reductive you were a class act!!❤❤❤
Love your analysis! So spot on. I thought Emily Blunt’s dress looked better from the side view, straight-on it gave her a bit of tummy due to the diagonal lines and where they were placed. I think Heidi Klum had such a wow look, probably my favorite. JLo’s opera coat and the fit of her dress were another wow moment. I also liked Rachel Smith’s dress a lot.
Wow great detailed review and very spot on with fit and what could have elevated some of the dresses. Your kind too which is hard to find now days!
I like Rosamund Pike's dress but she should have lost the headpiece.
Natalie Portman's dress was perfection.
Da'vine Joy Randolph's dress needed larger cups and straps. I was really surprised there wasn't a wardrobe malfunction.
Rosamund wore that headpiece because she recently had a skiing accident and her face is still somewhat bruised.
Gosh, I was getting very nervous during her speech, I thought something was about to pop out at any moment!
I love when you do these. I could have skipped the show and just waited for your best and worst!! Love how you go into detail and explain. And I agree with your results!! It wasn’t too long!❤
Love your opinions, agree with almost all. You are fabulous!
Ive been looking forward to this video Beebs.😊
I learn so much from your fashion reviews, and listened to this episode 3 times. Thank you for your dedication to being a professional, kind, and even handed in your commentary! ❤
Emma’s slit was embarrassingly high. I will never understand why a few women feel the need to almost expose themselves. It says something about their lack of dignity and need to draw attention to themselves. That dress would have looked just as lovely with a lower slit.
Remember when the Meg wore that hideous red dress and Beebs remarked that it's not a good look to have a plunging neckline AND a high slit in the same.dress. Emma Stone wore this look and yet no remarks in that regard.
I'm no fan of the Meg but seems a bit of a double standard to me.
I enjoyed your take on these dresses immensely!
Great review Beebs! Thx❤
That's the best I've ever seen Ozemprah!
Great job! Dior's dresses are stunning.
Have been looking forward to your Golden Globes breakdown 😊
You are always honest, constructive but kind also. My favourite fashion lady. Thank you Beebs! ❤
Beebs, thank you! That was so much fun!!!
Rosalind Pike’s hat was actually topping a plastic mask that was protecting her face because she had broken some facial bones before the globes. I thought it was costume-like too u til I found out why it was there.
Timothée Chalamet wearing Celine. FAB-ulous!
First time I’ve been here, such fun! You are wonderful! I love how your descriptions are on point!
Love this video and you. I completely agree with Everything you said 😘
Your comments exactly spot on! Well done.❤
Great video, not too long. Could have been longer. Love your commentary, Jennifer Lopez pink roses was my favorite. Please do a video for other award shows
Your critiques are bang on. Thank you for covering the dresses in such detail.
Totally agree with your #1 pick. Not only is the dress gorgeous, but it looks even better on!
37:54 Black with floral embroidery
3:00 Dior looked like Monet flower garden
Both deceptively simple and very elegant
Best fashion commentary. Praised the savy dresses, kind comments without trashy Splendid video.
Loved it ♥️ 🇨🇦
Your analysis was spot on!! I agreed with everything single thing you said. It was objective and showed your understanding of dress construction and proper tailoring!! Great job!
You have become the voice in my head (in a good way) when choosing what to wear! Been waiting for your reaction to the GG
The amount of gowns that accidentally drew attention to the crotch area was inexplicable. Just no.
The tailoring on Brie Larson's dress was exquisite: those darts, that hem 😍 but it was very prom and too young for her, whereas Jennifer Lawrence's gown was womanly perfection 🌟
Dua Lipa's dress looks like a Halloween outfit-the appliques are bones! Theres the ribs on either side of the bodice, the spine down the centre, and the 2 curved shapes look like the femurs, there's even a neck of femur where they hook a bit at the top. Its an anatomically correct skeletal mermaid dress.
OMG Jennifer's outfit has my heart
Totally agree with your choices and reasoning!!!
Carey Mulligan got it right, she's really gotten so good at hitting the carpet without gimmicks and without shock value, just straightforward great style. She got the mermaid proportions just right!
Julienne Moore looks like a cut out paper doll wearing that red dress 😂
Fabulous enjoyable educational video! Thank you Beebs!!!
I totally agree with you. Great critiques!
You have a great eye. On point analysis of design & a lovely turn of phrase.
