I'll tell you exactly why the Eilish jacket doesn't fit perfect... because they never seem to truly adjust jackets for bigger busts. Even when I go to tailors I have to REALLY work to get them to fit jackets correctly. It's SUCH a pain. They often don't make jackets with enough allowance to let out for bigger busts... so you have to get a huge jacket... then the seamstress gripes because they have to adjust EVERYTHING (arm holes, length, etc.)
@@TheresaHanssenshe has said before (while she was underage) that she hides her huge boobs under oversized clothes because men would sexualise her. Not sure if she's going back to that, but OP is definitely making a good point
You are right about the fit, it's all because these designers don't know how to deal with anything over a B cup. To respond to the other remark, I read that Billie doesn't like to show off her body because she doesn't like to be objectified. It's a distraction and wants to know she is appreciated for her talent and not her figure. She also likes to be comfortable, especially when singing. She has worn a couple nice fitted gowns and I understand what she means, she has a beautiful curvy figure.
Absolutely. As an owner of a larger than average bust, it's either buy big and have the jacket hang off you, or try to buy fitted and have tight armholes and a giant mono boob. Awful.
I have to add on Lily Gladstone. The embroidery at the neck line, is not crystal, it’s not beads, it is porcupine quills!!! And it was done by traditional techniques. I was BLOWN AWAY by that look and how amazing Lily is to include her community and background into this piece! I love it I think more people should look into incorporating traditional aboriginal techniques and textiles in fashion. 37:05

Also, how did he not pick up on the shapes on the train were mimicking her earrings? Fabulous overall look and the best example of incorporating one’s heritage.
One person that deserves mentioning is Eugene Lee Yang, who wore a red tuxedo gown that matched the carpet. When I saw his picture, my jaw hit the floor! Eugene regularly mixes masculine and feminine styles into his day-to-day wardrobe. He always looks so immaculate.
Lily Gladstone dress explanation. The "Blue Flowers" and "The piping detail along the neckline" are Porcupine quilled creations. Plains indigenous would gather the quills of a porcupine, boil them, dye then, flatten the quills, then weave into a design. so each of the blue "line" are a dyed porcupine quill. Honestly beautiful work and amazing weaving on the quills.
And she did it all throughout the season, served elegant but not boring every single time, from the Schiaparelli archival, to that gorgeous Armani Privé, to ending on a high with the Balenciaga. Showed everyone that they've been sleeping on her and need to give her some better projects
That woman (or her stylists) absolutely does not know how to operate with proportion (and color because that shade of pink drowned her out completely) regarding her body and garments...The whole get-up looked cheap.

36:50 Lily Gladstone's gown has Native American quillwork along the neckline in a beautiful shade of blue. The cape has quillwork in the same shade of blue as the neckline and white beading forming the flowers. Her earrings have the similar quill and beading. A lot of quillwork went into her gown.
It was snatched!! And I loved it, and I love her. But I have to say, the necklace did not match. It was way off. It was too heavy and didnt complement the gown. Wrong
idk why but i actually love the suit the rock is wearing. Like I'm trying to be mad at it but i just cant?? the colour looks great, I think the maroon scarf really matches well and call me crazy but the way the fabric creases and catches the light looks really cool and makes it super interesting... maybe if i saw a video of it and how it moves it'd be different ?
And men always saying on Twitter, reddit and Instagram that she's ugly, mid and looks like a Philippino young boy. Just because she's really skinny without curves. Men don't have any taste. She's gorgeous. But they only drool for blonde curvy bombshell like Sydney Sweeney
I am kind of confused by his slightly critical review of Zendaya cuz that dress looked stunning and fit her like a dream! She can't wear that muffler robotic suit at the Oscars or any award show cuz SHE NEEDS TO SIT AND BE COMFORTABLE while sitting in it for hours!
Zendaaaaaayyyya! That beautiful, yet relatively understated gown (Zendaya is a presenter who recognizes that she should not take too much focus away from nominees) was nevertheless doing some heavy lifting on the reminiscent/hearkening back to/relevance front on multiple levels. Let me count the ways: 1. The Palm Trees motif is reminiscent of the sacred Palm Trees in DUNE: Part One. 2. The Palm Trees are wonderfully relevant in the real life modern-day sense because The ACADEMY AWARDS ceremony is celebrated in Hollywood - natural habitat for Palm Trees. 3. Zendaya herself is a born and bred California Girl. She's claiming it by letting this lovely gown do her talking for her about that. 4. The Pink silk background against the dark metallic charcoal grey of the pattern in this fantastic gown is also wonderfully reminiscent of the spectacular BarbieHeimer year that theater-goers ushered in. Once again, overall, magnificent Zendaya exhibits genius-level styling!
Oh, also loved America's gorgeous pink Versace, Carey Mulligan's beautifully, starkly contrasting black and white gown, and Lupita N'yongo's soft, robin's egg blue confection - among others.
Sorry to disappoint you but believe it or not, palm trees are not natural to Los Angeles. They were all brought in a hundred years ago when Beverly Hills began. Check out any photos of the area in the 30s. It's the desert, not the tropics. From a long term resident.
Carey Mulligan, Anya Taylor-Joy and Hailee Seinfeld looked amazing. They slayed. I also loved Camilla Mendes's after party look, the dress she wore was stunning. Anya slayed too.
I think the length of the tux would’ve paired better with a more straight fitted pants, even slightly skinnier like some women’s suit pants. The flair pants with long/not fitted tux just looks too flowy everywhere to look neat
I just left the same comment. Thought I should check it anyone else had caught that but you were way down the list (days before me). I have never really liked the houndstooth pattern so it stands out when I see it. Seems fitting for Chanel though. Classic black and white 😉
Yes. Has no idea was it was, so Google was my friend. It appears houndsouth is featured in the Prince of Wales whatever, but this is just houndsouth, nothing fancy.
I just so someone on Instagram stating that Margot was always in pink and America Ferrera always in black, so this time they changed it, so Ferrera could shine. Don’t know enough about to tell you if it’s true
I feel like Margo was there as producer not as Barbie/actress. Since she was not nominated in the acting category but was nominated as a producer for the film

“Weird drapery turd of a neckline” 🤣🤣🤣 literally laughed out loud 😂. Actually I liked this look and maybe this was the one look in this video where I differed from your take. Overall I really loved your commentary and appreciate what you mentioned details about the fit of pieces and references to fashion history. Just found your channel with this video, better late than never! xo
Well, you know what Heidi said about fashion designers -- one day you're in, & the next day you're out.🤭 I definitely think Christian Siriano has lost his spark.
4:42 I loved this video. Thank you for all the time you take. I always learn so much about current and historical couture. I was confused by your review of Anna Taylor-Joy's dress. The designer has taken the original Venus dress with its gorgeous fluffy petals that look like an opening flower, and turned them into mermaid scales. The whole silhouette says "mermaid", and including the Under The Sea necklace just hangs a lantern on it. A lovely dress with a very nice tip of the hat to the original Venus concept.
Carey Mulligan's dress was so elegant. Felt like she needed a necklace or a statement jewelry piece though. Emma Stone looked pretty in peplum, Hailey Steinfeld, Greta Lee & Zendaya looked superb as well.
Deepika Padukone wore a similar silhouette for the Oscars last year and wore a statement Cartier necklace with a yellow jewel! Would've loved to see something like that on Carey.
I don’t get why celebs don’t wear Ellie Saab more on the red carpet because those are some of the most stunning dresses ever created and really are interesting
Emily Blunt's shoulder straps are just me in every dress with a fitted waist. I'm not aiming for surrealism, I'm just a 5'1 woman with a proportionally short torso!
well... it depends on _where_ the pockets are (sorry - this is my first time watching this channel - not usually that much into fashion, but completely hooked - (same time exhausted, need sleep) just explaining not sure - where - what = who _here_ whoever thought that woman's tops needed/wanted needed one pocket over the breast area (& no, two, over both breasts - no, no, no, no, NO!) (still that's more ON - than _in_ ) have to admit I was so so SO jealous of my dad as a kid - that inside pocket, in his business suit jacket - so jealous. sought a decent one out in my 20s in thrift stores/op shops - but never found one I loved
I loved hearing more about Christian Dior’s Venus gown. I like the history of the bouffant skirt and that the designer saw women as flowers. All of the embroidered petals are incredibly detailed in awe! Luke’s descriptions are beautiful as always!! Anya Taylor Joy didn’t have my favorite look personally. But, I love to learn something new, so thank you!!
the close ups on that dress were amazing, the embroidery really is something else. But the silhouette and the way the top and bottom parts go together just doesn't give it that "wow" factor. I think ATJ was still gorgeous in it but if it was another actress I prob wouldn't defend it lol.
Was super skeptical at first glance. The more I looked at it the more I realized the placement of the plaid pattern on the bust/shoulder area and hips created a beautiful but subtle silhouette for her. The white in the waist added to the silhouette as well. The fade to the skirt was clever. Wish they would’ve done more for her hair. I think a short cut with tight curls/coils teased out would’ve brought another fun element to this look.
Carey Mulligan's dress is simply gorgeous. There should be an award somewhere for best Oscar outfit. That Cynthia Ervo dress is absolutely eating her up.
Agreed with the bests, with the Lever Couture pink horsehair dress worn by Leah Lewis being the most innovative. And I actually really love Annette Bening’s look. It’s cool, laid back, doing you yet dressy style. Totally works for me. She was definitely comfortable.
For Lily Gladstone’s neckline is it embroidered? It reminded me of quill work. Embellishments made from porcupine quills that were used before beads were made readily available. If it is embroidered then that’s so beautiful and amazing to make it appear as quill work.
it's absolutely quillwork! there's an article in vogue where they go into more detail on the work done by Joe Big Mountain and Oneida artists! The amount of work that went into the dress is absolutely monumental and definitely an act of community love for lily as quillwork is very time intensive work
It reminded you of quill work because it was quill work. And it was a win/win. The dress was absolutely beautiful and didn't she look fabulous in the dress?
43:40 he's not wearing a boot because he's wearing BRIGHT PINK SOCKS that you can see poking out juuuust a little on his right ankle. Got that Barbie nod. I also like how it compliments Margot's dress without being matchy matchy.
I love the loewe plaid. Super cool. I appreciate that the fashion at this years Oscar's excited me more than all the other award shows this season, and last season for that matter.
I loved Anya’s dress, I felt like it was a beautiful reimagining of the Venus dress and I just loved it, I think she looks stunning and the dress was just gorgeous. Honestly one of my favourite looks ❤
Cynthia Erivo looked like how Scarlett O'Hara would have looked had she used the leather loveseat she got at goodwill instead of the velvet drapes to make her iconic dress.
For real. I'm unfortunately usually meh about her red caprpets, but this time she had my attention. Styled perfectly, getting that edge to cut that beautiful, iridescent top with PERFECTLY PRESSED skirt.

I was going to say that! The Joe Big Mountain collab was not just for the jewelry, but for the porcupine quill embroidery on the gown itself
Must go look at it on a big screen. Impossible to appreciate on a phone.
Thank you for posting this as fast as you did!! It wouldn't be an Award Show experience without your fashion roast and review
Honestly Luke is all I need to watch.
America Ferrera was SNATCHED in pink! 🔥
That gown really fit and looked good on her!
It was snatched!! And I loved it, and I love her. But I have to say, the necklace did not match. It was way off. It was too heavy and didnt complement the gown. Wrong
The ribbon dress! So magical ❤ I would love it in an ombré purple!!
Emily Blunt in y-fronts is something I never thought I’d see.
I agree with what he's saying about this dress.
That was a great dress …..until you saw the underpants !
Carey Mulligan said, I am not playing this award season!
She really needs recognition for being absolutely flawless this awards season.
I wish every man of this industry was serving looks like Colman Domingo
love the bowtie! Never thought of it before - but now that I have seen the tie with the jewel, I wonder why don't people do that all the time?
Your read on Christian Siriano is priceless....
I felt so bad for her. She relied on expert's and they all failed her.
@@GardenRetriever they failed her bad... they should be fired
1st video of yours that I’ve seen. Awesome take on history of fashion, knowledge of fabric, design. I’m with you 100%. Thank you!
idk why but i actually love the suit the rock is wearing. Like I'm trying to be mad at it but i just cant?? the colour looks great, I think the maroon scarf really matches well and call me crazy but the way the fabric creases and catches the light looks really cool and makes it super interesting... maybe if i saw a video of it and how it moves it'd be different ?
I think the colours looked great on him, maybe the material was not good, I'm no fashion person at all, but to me he looked good like this as a whole.
I felt the same way!
Face it, Zendaya could be wrapped in burlap, tied with jute cord and caped with garbage bags, wearing Birkenstocks, and she would still be stunning!
I literally said something like this to my mother 2 days ago 😂😂😂😂
And men always saying on Twitter, reddit and Instagram that she's ugly, mid and looks like a Philippino young boy. Just because she's really skinny without curves. Men don't have any taste. She's gorgeous. But they only drool for blonde curvy bombshell like Sydney Sweeney
i agree. zendaya is one of the most stunning woman ever.

Ariana Grande looks like she’s wearing a Pepto Bismol comforter. It’s horrible.
She's so tiny, it's just impossible to wear that kind of thing if you're not a 5'10 model.
If it’s not comfortable, it doesn’t work. Ariana looks so uncomfortable dragging that mass of pink taffy around.
The dress looks weirdly anatomical to me, like a trachea with flesh attached. Not a fan.
Yes and it looks like it’s eating her alive. Definitely a case of the dress wearing the person not the person wearing the dress
She's bringing in the washing off the line. What is Luke thinking? It's awful.
Interesting details. Thanks!
Sorry to disappoint you but believe it or not, palm trees are not natural to Los Angeles. They were all brought in a hundred years ago when Beverly Hills began. Check out any photos of the area in the 30s. It's the desert, not the tropics. From a long term resident.
Thank you for giving a great analysis of these gowns, and being kind while you do it!
Carey Mulligan, Anya Taylor-Joy and Hailee Seinfeld looked amazing. They slayed.
I also loved Camilla Mendes's after party look, the dress she wore was stunning. Anya slayed too.
The raised straps on Emily Blunts dress made it look like it didn’t fit properly 🤷🏻♀️
Yeah, if it had been more emphasised then maybe you could have though it was a cool sculptural detail, but it just looked like a mistake
The dress is just a scene. Nightmare.
I love Emily she's funny and classy. Her straps are not well executed. Florence's raised straps dress is a lot better than Emilys.
I can't look at anything else after the men's underwear reference
I didn't like that surrealist take at all, and as for the Y fronts part at the front...FAIL!!!
Carey mulligan served so much there was nothing left for anybody else
Bradley Cooper's blazer's problem was that it was too long. That's why the legs look like they are dangling -- we don't have any hip reference.
Not dangling--ding-a-linging. Love Luke so mmuch.
Too many sprays tans and over done Botox men. Both Bradley and Ryan looked ridiculous and don’t get me started on The Rock.
Bradley Cooper looked like he had borrowed his dad's tux. The fit was so wrong, it was a shame for such a good looking man.
I think the length of the tux would’ve paired better with a more straight fitted pants, even slightly skinnier like some women’s suit pants. The flair pants with long/not fitted tux just looks too flowy everywhere to look neat
Agree.
I love that so many men were wearing brooches.
hello! as always great video! just a small remark: that pattern on billie's chanel bag is houndstooth, not a prince of wales check (or glen plaid)!
Margot not having a grand finale for the Barbie season was just SAD. :(
I just so someone on Instagram stating that Margot was always in pink and America Ferrera always in black, so this time they changed it, so Ferrera could shine. Don’t know enough about to tell you if it’s true
Saw*
I feel like Margo was there as producer not as Barbie/actress. Since she was not nominated in the acting category but was nominated as a producer for the film
Lol I wrote my comment before I heard Luke say basically the exact same thing
Where was our Peaches and Cream gown??? We were ROBBED 😭😉
Bradley Cooper’s legs “dingle-linging” has me in stitches right now😂😂😂
I absolutely laughed out loud
@@baybeachbeautyme too!😂
Hey Luke you should react to the looks from the Vanity Fair after party too! Some of the looks were much better than the Oscars red carpet
100% this
The fun fits and the naked people! 😅
Yes some!
That's what I thought as well.
With all the nudity he'd get demonetised instantly 😂 or end up with massive patches of blurriness on everything
hi, love your videos! I was thinking I would love to see you do a video that would be all looks you really loved, ones that were truly serving so it would be a whole video of fawning over really exquisite fashion moments. It’s just a loose suggestion but I think it would be so fun to watch and it would also be super informative and a great homage to excellent fashion sense 👌🏽
I just found you’re channel and I’m hooked! Love your takes on fashion.
Hailee seinfelds lewk is my #1 fave. She looks like a literal sea goddess and her hair and makeup was actually STYLED. So many others werent styled
I wish it had been fitted better. Looks like it hangs too far down. But I agree!
@@kathyrice7931100% agree
Coleman Domingo is saving Mens fashion!
the roast of Erika Alexander's Christian Siriano dress is why I subscribed
“Weird drapery turd of a neckline” 🤣🤣🤣 literally laughed out loud 😂. Actually I liked this look and maybe this was the one look in this video where I differed from your take. Overall I really loved your commentary and appreciate what you mentioned details about the fit of pieces and references to fashion history. Just found your channel with this video, better late than never! xo
Great fashion analysis and history about the designers. Loved the review of Cynthia Ervio’s green leather gown and the draping and fit details.
Seriano deserves jail for what he made for Erika Alexander 😭💀
She should have stood up to the designer and said "No". I can do better.
Why did he do that to her?!?!
Well, you know what Heidi said about fashion designers -- one day you're in, & the next day you're out.🤭 I definitely think Christian Siriano has lost his spark.
Just think of what Regine would say.
I was so shocked when I saw her. It feels malicious?! Who is the audience for that asethetic 😵💫
Love Lily Gladstone and would also love if big brands started working with local and native artisans even when it is not forced or beneficial to them
Carey has been absolutely serving recently.
Fr. Her stylist needs a raise cause they have not missed once.
I think it's hilarious that this video started playing in the middle of my true crime binge. Apparently the algorithm has a sense of humor 😂
I love when you said you “talk shit for a living”…..too funny! 😂
Carey Mulligan's dress was so elegant. Felt like she needed a necklace or a statement jewelry piece though. Emma Stone looked pretty in peplum, Hailey Steinfeld, Greta Lee & Zendaya looked superb as well.
I'm glad someone else recognises Great Lee!
Deepika Padukone wore a similar silhouette for the Oscars last year and wore a statement Cartier necklace with a yellow jewel! Would've loved to see something like that on Carey.
She was definitely in need of some fabulous jewel’s with that gorgeous Balenciaga gown
I don’t get why celebs don’t wear Ellie Saab more on the red carpet because those are some of the most stunning dresses ever created and really are interesting
@@queenb2450 ikr me too if i was rich i'd be wearing elie saab every day!
Emily Blunt's shoulder straps are just me in every dress with a fitted waist. I'm not aiming for surrealism, I'm just a 5'1 woman with a proportionally short torso!
I'm 6'1" so I have the opposite problem, but dresses still don't fit!
I am 5 ft 1 with a small torso too! I feel your pain! ❤
Meanwhile, me with my longer torso, including an extra vertebrae: "I'll just keep my arms down to avoid ripping the arms from the bodice..."
And then there’s me-super long torso on a petite body w petite arms and legs. Oy.
@@Hedge_witch Me three!
Jodie Foster looks like she's ready for the big dinner on a seniors' cruise to the Bahamas.
I loved Lily Gladestone's gown. Love the blue so much! Zendaya's gown was beautiful, too. Looked very elegant. Beautiful job, ladies!👏👏
I love that so many designers are finally putting pockets in women's outfits. About time.
Amen!
OMG! Claire McCardell would be proud.
well... it depends on _where_ the pockets are (sorry - this is my first time watching this channel - not usually that much into fashion, but completely hooked - (same time exhausted, need sleep)
just explaining not sure - where - what = who _here_
whoever thought that woman's tops needed/wanted needed one pocket over the breast area (& no, two, over both breasts - no, no, no, no, NO!) (still that's more ON - than _in_ )
have to admit I was so so SO jealous of my dad as a kid - that inside pocket, in his business suit jacket - so jealous. sought a decent one out in my 20s in thrift stores/op shops - but never found one I loved
@@juliaconnell Yes, pants, skirt, dresses, and jackets. Useful pockets.
@@ittt6339thank you!
Call me crazy but I liked that plaid loewe dress. Serving ugly fresh on the Oscars red carpet is a statement to be respected, at least.
“Ugly fresh” I love it
I liked it as well. It was intriguing. And plaid always gives great graphic lines.
That Cynthia Ervo dress is absolutely eating her up.
i LOVE the plaid dress! Not really an oscar dress but Beautiful!
Carey Mulligan's dress absolutely slayed. She looked sensational.
I like that Ariana wore a dress that’s as big as her ego.
😂
lol i needed a laugh 🤭
😂😂😂😂😂😂❤nailed it!
Carey Mulligan is sensational in this dress, absolute perfection
Agreed with the bests, with the Lever Couture pink horsehair dress worn by Leah Lewis being the most innovative. And I actually really love Annette Bening’s look. It’s cool, laid back, doing you yet dressy style. Totally works for me. She was definitely comfortable.
thank you for a great video! im not really into fashion but i really enjoyed this vid and i loved to watch these clothes through your eyes!
Colman Domingo's ring with the giant brown stone is actually Bayard Rustin's ring and he has worn it on every red carpet.
"Haute couture stegosaur" has got to be my favourite fashion compliment ever!
The amount of work that went into the dress is absolutely monumental and definitely an act of community love for lily as quillwork is very time intensive work
I thought the same thing. It is soooo beautiful
I'm so impressed by the breadth of your historical knowledge and insights into styles of all types. Thanks for your vlogs!
I just want to shout out Eugene Lee Yang who looked GORGEOUS. I always appreciate any guys who will rock a bold and beautiful skirt.
Yeah surprised he didn't get a mention for taking risks

When did they ban necklaces?
@@user-wi6cz4hh5b I'm sorry! I meant it as a joke because the red carpets lately have lacked necklaces

The plaid dress was striking and beautiful. The pink metallic was stunning. The giant puffy pink was ridiculous, only for a runway.

Stop 😭😭😭
I didn't mind the dress as much as I minded whoever managed to convince her that that was her color.
@@AbsentWithoutLeaving I think, though, the green is a reference to "Wicked" (her upcoming role).
She looked like a friendly dragon.

I'm just here to applaud on your Christian Siriano spill. Bravo!
My first time to watch your program. I love it! I agree with your critique on the Versace plaid!
I thought Ariana’s dress looked like a comforter 🛌
Yup, she brought her Barbie sleeping bag in case the show ran extra-long.
I was more thinking intestines 😮
I loved Florence Pughs look, it was so flattering on her.
I loved her look as well. It was one of my favourites. So unique.
For real. I'm unfortunately usually meh about her red caprpets, but this time she had my attention. Styled perfectly, getting that edge to cut that beautiful, iridescent top with PERFECTLY PRESSED skirt.
Yessssss i loved it too!!
It was so cool!
The pink ribbon dress is delightful & unexpected, I love it 🥰
I laughed so much with your Siriano dress review! What a decent, calm way to completely destroy it. Hahaha Don’t ever change!
