I worked as a hall porter at Walton Hall when Danny was there. He was a nice guy and I have good memories of those days. Some of his family members worked there too, his brother was a gardener. Walton Hall still operating as a hotel in Warwickshire.

A big fan of Danny but never met him. Like many of my generation I was brought up on cabaret and variety shows on TV. Danny was one of the last stars of that kind of family entertainment. I miss that kind of entertainment and the wealth of stars it supported, sadly all now gone. RIP Danny.

As a young man growing up in the 1970s, I always looked forward every Wednesday night to watching The Good Old Days on BBC One. It was televised at the players theatre Leeds, an old style music hall, where the audience were all dressed in period costumes. Danny La Rue stared on this TV show on many occasions and I always enjoyed his performances. He was a good singer and was very popular with the public. God rest his gentle soul. Thanks for making another great video.

I've only just seen this, and what a befitting tribute it was.
I'd always loved Danny La Rue - my late Grandma was a massive massive fan of his, and I grew up being the same... I remember my parents going to his club too, but I was too young at the time!
On Sunday 22nd April 1984 I was lucky enough to be invited to Live at Her Majesty's by Jimmy Tarbuck's niece.
I had been the previous Saturday to watch the rehearsal for that night's show and watched Tommy Cooper rehearse his act for the live show. I remember sitting next to Tommy's wife in the stalls, there was only her, me and a few production crew. I was supposed to return to watch the live show, but unfortunately, they were fully booked. So I was asked to come back the following week to watch that show instead.
I later watched that live show, and remembered Tommy's routine as I's seen it earlier on. In the rehearsal, he did fumble about in the curtain, that was part of his act, but as I watched it live on TV, I said to my friend "Why is that going on so long? It wasn't this long earlier... then the show was halted and they went to the adverts... very very sad.
I did go back the following week to watch that live show and afterwards was invited backstage, just me! I was taken to Bernie Winter's dressing room, where he was amazed how much I looked like his niece apparently!
Bernie ushered me along to Jimmy Tarbuck's room and with Bernie enthusing about my likeness to his niece! I was asked to join them for a small private after party - in that room were Jimmy Tarbuck, Bernie Winters, Danny La Rue, Stan Boardman, Engelbert Humperdinck - and me!!
Danny was a beautiful a person, inside and out, that I'd always imagined him to be - he was gentle, sweet, funny, emotional and spiritual. He spent at least 20 minutes just talking to me, he even made me cry, but in a good way.
Danny was something else, something special
I am so grateful to have met him and chatted with him with such heartfelt honesty - I'll always be truly honoured to have done so.
That night still remains to this day, the best night of my life.... God rest his beautiful soul ❤

Hi Alan. How you doing, mate?
I really enjoyed this episode. Your research was and is, excellent, as always. It's such a shame to learn that Danny was conned out of his money like that. There really are some horrible people in this world, who will do anything to anyone, and not have a second thought about it.
I saw the late Lionel Blair in the video and it reminded me of a story he once told about Danny, one akin to the Princess Margaret story that you recounted. He said that Danny was in a club (might have been his own) and a bloke called him something along the lines of 'poof'. Lionel said that Danny walked up to the man and knocked him off his feet with a left hook. He wasn't one to be messed with, wasn't Danny.
Please keep making the vids, Alan. They are all superb and you are a jolly nice chap indeed. Please keep up the good work so that I can look forward to the next one.

Thanks Alan, I fondly remember Danny La Rue he was often on television decades ago. He was very well respected in days when gay only meant happy. Wow doesn’t Russell Harty look young, so does Danny. I didn’t know that he had a long term partner and then had a great friend in Annie. Forgot that he was Irish too. He had such a busy and varied life and you have done a brilliant job of paying great respect to him. Nice that he was buried with his partner. Great video Alan, very well done.

Hello Joan, I agree they were both very young looking but Danny was in his mid-50s with Russel but Denny's life took the opposite turn. He had to carry on with the drag act almost to the end of his life because he was robbed very quickly. I read that Annie would have liked to have been his partner if he had been possible :-) They were very close and it was super sweet on a personal level, he left all the proceeds of his costumes to her i feel sure they loved each other. But I think the true love he is buried with. Danny was a superstar and super interesting. Thank you, J, Alan

My mother adored Danny La Rue - I think more because of his glamorous costumes than anything else.
A fabulous video, Alan. Informative and with tidbits that I didn't know about before, so it was a truly great watch and listen.
    Many thanks!

Woww what a story what a life. I remember him from watching tv with my mum . thought he was funny . Didn't realise he had gone through all that heartache 💔 he sounded like a very thoughtful and caring guy. He lived a long life. Was so nice of him to think about the lady what a lovely guy. Thanks again for sharing this I found it very interesting love Gill Holmfirth West Yorkshire 😀

Hello Alan. Such a sad story. We see all these celebrities from beginning to end we follow their lives and when they die it is like losing family isn’t it. Because they were true entertainers. On Mother Kelly’s Doorstep. Great song. He trusted two con men and that finished his grand life. If only he hadn’t bought that big place. He had a lovely place on the Thames. If a two letter word but it rules out lives in the end doesn’t it. Thankyou once again and I love your videos. ❤

      @MotorHomeBeepBeep  Рік тому +1

Hello Barry, yes it was a mistake. He bought the big hotel cos he didn't have the time or maybe the money. And the real problem was the two comment he said on the day to his partner. This is either the best day of my life or the worst. I think he got some inclination and it turned out to be the latter. What a shame. Thank you for the great comment. Alan

Really interesting what i have taken from watching your episodes is it seem to be no matter how much money and fame you have we all end up in a patch of dirt or pot and if lucky have a head stone ..i do enjoy your wise words at the end of videos about not to worry to much and try and live the best you can because one thing is for sure this is no rehearsal ..Top work

Hi Daniel well that's so eloquently put bye you but true, you made me laugh :-) But beyond the last bit and the bit before the last bit if you get my drift It's amazing how many of these celebrities that were thought of as important end up with sad endings. Even this one had a sad end when in his fifties all his money was stolen !. There seem to be more sad ones than happy ones but as they said, don't let sweat the small stuff, let's just enjoy everything we can, i try. Lovely comment. See you soon friend. Alan
