This is a great comparison video, but not in the intended purpose. Suellio showed a massive difference in immersion by going with a DD. He was so immersed in the pro pedal with more force he couldn't even gather his thoughts. He was able to speak and think way more clearly with the g923. And THAT is why we upgrade to DD. Not necessarily for faster lap times, but to feel so immersed in the vehicle you are in.

I just went from a belt driven base to a DD. There's a bit of a misconception that DD won't make you faster because there's a lack of context when that is said. Over a single lap? No, it very likely will not. Over the course of a full race? Absolutely. Why? Because you minimize your losses from mistakes with the extra feedback, especially if you've driven real cars and feel like there's something missing from the belt/gear driven bases. A mistake on my previous wheel would usually land me sideways or offtrack too often, mistakes with DD are easier to catch, resulting in smaller losses.

Not only the extra information but the passive countersteer you get from having a stronger wheel with a faster response time that will correct the car for you when breaking straight and when oversteering.

Actually when I was using the G29 I cut a stress ball and put it inside the spring of the brake pedal and it made a world of difference. It helped a lot because the pedal had a much more progressive feeling and the precision was more "load cell like" but still not quite as precise. I do like a heavier wheel feel so my GT DD pro with boost kit feels perfect.

I kept my G920 and replaced the pedals with the Heusinkveld Ultimate Plus set, and it made a huge difference. Not only the brake , but the throttle is so much more accurate it makes the transitions from brake to throttle so much more smooth. Exits are way more smoother now. And now I’m doing the course and it has helped even more than the equipment. I use a Force Map file to enhance the ffb in iRacing.

I did the same thing. g29 wheel and I added cheap load cell pedals. I have the same thoughts. The brakes are better for sure, and that's why I upgraded the pedals. But surprisingly the throttle is more accurate, too. I wasn't expecting that.

@@clippzzorito1420out of your sarcasm, it's legit, no matter if you spend $200 or $2000, a pedal upgrade only on the G29 o G923 is the right way to go, no only due the lack of feeling in the pedals but also due that those pedals tend to fail, potentiometers fail. So instead of spending $300 on an entry level load cell pedals, you go directly to a high-level pedal and then you don't spend money ever again on pedals, also you'll have to get used to a new set of pedals only once. Then you can go to upgrades little by little the rest.

UA-cam has been a minefield and often contradictory but this is the best video I’ve watched. Very informative. I just can’t wait to get my set up completed so I can get my arse kicked 😂 … I’m going straight for the Pro wheel and pedals as I really want the realism to be there from day one. Cheers for this.

The wheel and the pedals are 100% not limiting anybody going fast themselves, but I think that depends on your setup area and also what you are driving. I got along fine in the mazda, but I was trying to learn the V8 Supercar and sometimes the lack of detail and torque with the very easy to push pedals, you could lose the car before you even felt it and there is just no bringing it back. One of the biggest issues I had with the G29 was the wheel and pedals moving whilst playing(at a desk), the wheel base lock nuts were at the point where if I did them up too much they perma lock and you couldn't undo them and then also if it wasn't tight the wheel would move around even with only 2nm. Same goes for the pedals with those little rubber feet and whatever was on it, Tried numerous things to keep them stable and still eventually they'd slip midrace and you'd loose the car very easy lol. I think with how cheap they are it makes the upgrade paths for other things that help your time quite foggy, for example: A cheap ebay rig with a uncomfortable chair was more expensive than the wheel, pedals and shifter so it was very hard to justify spendng more money just to find consistency

This ABSOLUTELY confirmed what I've been feeling on the G29 for a while now with the braking/pedals. Obviously it isn't all equipment, but it feels like it has gotten more inconsistent with inputs as they have aged after heavy use for the last few years. I think my biggest problem, at least with GT7 is the throttle. The window for input is so narrow.

Even more time after watching Suellio's videos on trail braking and rotation. The wheel isn't 100% but I was able to get a third place trophy in my iracing league last season against some fierce competition.

    Re: Pedals.
With angle sensors (potentiometers or Hall-Effect sensors) you can get (almost) as precise as loadcells (force sensors).
It’ll require an output curve translating the angle position to better align with the force feel, of which the Force Factor within iRacing is just one example.
When using a pedal set’s proprietary software (i.e. Moza Pithouse) or a 3rd party Windows HID “translator” (i.e. Joystick Gremlin) you can change the curve which modifies the raw input (sensor measurement) to output (game input) by multiplying the sensor reading with the customized user curve.
The tricky thing is the setup to get the feel right. That will be much more easy with a loadcell, because there is little to no translation needed.
For a angle sensor based system, you could use a weight scale to measure the force needed for certain angle deflections, used to find the points where 0, 10, 25, 50, 80, 100% force applied lines up to which angle deflection.
Using that data you can craft a output curve that emulates the output of a loadcell pretty closely.

I don't know if you wrote the book on how to be fast in iRacing or if it's the only realistic one, but all your tips, like fishing for grip, inducing oversteer, and things like this, work like a charm in iRacing. However, they don't seem to apply as well in ACC, GT7, and other simulators. In GT7, for example, it's almost impossible to spin on entry on most cars (and I'm talking about race cars, rear driven, bb towards rear and oversteery setup), and you don't feel the passive countersteer even with the Logitech Pro Wheel. I don't know how Vitor Genz and other influencers said that GT7 is a good simulator. By the way, your content is the best I have found on the internet. It's direct, practical, and it's really transforming my driving skills.

I have been using the G923 for about a year , still expecting to get a good 4-5 years from it ,
the money I could spend on a better wheel are definitely better spent on getting a foldable sim cockpit to replace my desk setup, upgrading from my aging 1660ti GPU (I recently upgraded from a regular 1080p@60 monitor to a 1440p@165hz one) ... and perhaps I might even get a VR headset, as I definitely dont have the money or space for a 3ple monitor setup (that would require me to buy 2 more 1440p165 monitors plus i would need an $1000+ GPU to power all those monitors)
All the while , i can still enjoy driving my G923 , and as you guessed , I dont have the kind of money to spare for iRacing ... my go-to sims are : rFactor2, Assetto Corsa (the original , not ACC because I dont care at all about GT cars) and Automobilista 2
I dont know if playing solo career mode on F1 2020 , F1 22 and Project Cars 2 counts as Sim Racing, but I also do that too...
Yeah , Im not struggling ,but with everything Im intending to buy, iRacing is definitely out of my budget

My upgrade path: G29 - SimRig - T-LCM - 3dRap for T-LCM, DD, Sprints. The biggest upgrades were the SimRig and 3dRap modded T-LCM, which are like Sprints at 30kg. When I bought DD, immersion went up. When I bought Sprints, I was surprised how similar the brake pedal was to the modded T-LCM. With DD (8nm) wheel, I found out, I can catch slides so much more easily, and you feel suspension (like bottoming out), and limit of the tires. You don't feel these things on G29. On G29 you drive more with your eyes. With DD, you feel all these things. I would say 8nm DD is just a little too weak, you're better off saving a month or two more and buy a stronger wheel.

So, I have a G923. I could never drive on pedal position alone. Perhaps I should have stuck with it, but I fitted it for the AXC True Brake. It helped massively, but even with that, holding specific pressures I found really hard. That's partly because the resolution is only 255 and the polling is also pretty low. I added the leo bodnar cable which increases resolution to 1024 and doubles polling. While there's no disagreement from me that learning technique and mechanics is going to get you bunch more time, the equipment is a huge factor in that. Even if you know how to trail brake, actually doing it on g9xx pedals is super hard, because there are feet limits of measurement and they aren't updated as frequently. You'll have a much squarer response on these pedals than sone with better sensors, drive electronics, abd software.

I always use the Auto function in iRacing while having the wheelbase at 11Nm. Clipping is only bad when you hit the bar on red for a long duration. But flashing red here and there is totally fine, you're not really losing any detail. Auto in iRacing allows around 2-3% clipping, and especially at nords where you get a lot of kerb strikes and compressions, clipping should happen.

I have G29 set and yeah Pedal is just... Ugh. But what I did was actually add about 51% of "deadzone", basically a point where you touch the rubber inside the pedal and I made that a start breaking point in GT7 then I press as much as it goes to reach the 100%.
So basically i removed all of the linearity and made it all pressure based even though it's linear potentiometer without modding. It's not perfect but my mind already is already learning the pressure muscle memory and I'm thinking less and less what I'm doing with pedal compared to before where I actually had no clue whether I'm 30% or 50% and it messed up my trail braking. Now at least I can trail brake more consistently.
It's not perfect, there is small amount of travel and there is fuck ton of dead pedal zone (I hold my foot pressed on the pedal and rest it on the rubber where it's still not activating).
I'm thinking of whether I should just do some sort of load cell upgrade kit for G29 pedals or maybe just go straight to G pro pedal with G29 wheel.

I can’t agree more with what is said in this video! The only time I would say an upgrade in hardware is necessary is if you have something like an old old old wheel like a T80, which in my case was what I had and used for 6-8 months until I decided to upgrade, but first it was load cell pedals and then later on it was the csl dd 8nm, the difference was more than night and day but I guess beach’s the T80 only had 180° total rotation and only a rubber band to pull it back to centre but no actual feedback haha and it was a nightmare and I some how managed to get through rookies in IRacing with it

Driven some DD abd belt drives without it and find it hard to know from the wheel if you are on grass curb or track. On the 923 its subtle, but its useful as an indicator of where the tyres are. On the G Pro my guess is that it works even better

    • @sermerlin1
      @sermerlin1 4 місяці тому

I cba do these home brew mods, cutting eraser and what else there is... what I did was actually just remove all the spring based motion until I touch rubber in the pedal (G29). That's where I set the dead zone to and it is about 51% as basically until I hit the rubber I can't feel shit how much I'm braking it's all loosey goosey. So where the rubber begins is where braking activates and I press it as hard until 100% so I kind of am mimmicking load cell pressure braking and it helps a lot. But heck it ain't no damn load cell lol. At least it is helping me build that muscle memory and I can be more consistent.
And i'm stuck on whether I should upgrade G29 brake pedal with load cell or just go straight to G pro pedals... (But it will cost 390 euros as I need to get that adapter for G29 base).

I knew it was time to upgrade my wheelbase when I was driving the Porsche GT3 on the limit through a few fast corners and having an inconsistent turn-in (since there was a bit of a dead zone in the G920) which caused the 911 to miss the ideal line and spin. Once I upgraded, I made the corner full-throttle 90% of the time instead of 50% haha. It also helps with smoother corner entries since there is no dead zone anymore.
Totally agree that pedals made the biggest difference and technique is much more important than upgrading either though. I actually lost iRating for a couple of weeks after upgrading my pedals too, and then it skyrocketed. It took me almost a month to gain back the lost iRating when I upgraded my wheelbase since I couldn't find settings that sat well with me and made me consistent. Now I can't imagine going back, although I would be faster than before after reading your book. :)

Moza is arguably the best bang for the buck today.
