I've studied vehicle dynamics for quite some time, and have been working as a race engineer for the last few years. I really thought I was pretty good at analyzing a driver and unpacking the deficiencies... until I watched this video. You are a brilliant teacher. The way you elegantly and yet very simply connected the dots between yaw, speed, deceleration and acceleration was really awesome. I remember trying to explain the same thing (why constant radius line is slow) to a student at the track one time but I don't think my poor explanation ever clicked with the student.
Thanks! I have a Ph.D in Chemistry, met Nobel Prize winners, worked 25 years as a chemist at Procter and Gamble R&D with some of the smartest people in the world, and within a week of finding you on UA-cam (to help me transition into IRacing) have concluded you are probably in the top 3 most brilliant people I’ve ever been exposed to. I am very smart myself, but will need to watch this content multiple times to fully absorb it. The Venn diagram of people who both understand and communicate multivariate systems has a infinitesimal small overlap.
I feel I am rather smart and reading the last part of your comment as made me feel insignificant 😂 but agree that this man's content has transformed me from a mediocre sim racer to something I'm now super proud of! ❤❤
Before: His braking inputs are very… interesting. That first corner was pretty good, but after that it was just very wobbly. He would brake, trail brake a bit, and then put on some more pressure, and his car would oversteer from it. His lines also weren’t very on point, missing apexes and straight just comepletely going off on exit. Throttle inputs seem fine, though he could probably control the car better if he managed the throttle more. After: So especially on long round hairpins, you want to brake, stay on the brake, at around 10-15% up until the middle of the corner. then apply throttle. Simple.
My thoughts after watching his driving: His brake input seems to be very irratic. He isn’t holding a constant pressure and then decreasing as the corner progresses. That and turning in too late sometimes makes him miss a lot of apexes Edit: I had no idea that was what you were focusing on. Instead of his braking being an issue it was the throttle application. The way you demonstrated it with the ferrari badge was top tier
I think the erratic braking might also be due to his equipment, a brake pedal that uses a potentiometer (like the logitech G29 pedals) make it a lot more difficult to maintain a constant brake pressure than brakes that use a load cell (like in higher end gear).... this has been my experience at least
@@EduardN6448 I use a thrustmaster TMX Pro and the pedals fucking suck. The throttle has no resistance and the brake barely any more. I know someone with a fanatec wheel and load cell pedals and my laptimes are usually seconds faster on his setup
I’m learning so much watching your vids while I’m away from my rig. I’m gonna apply and practice the things I’ve learned. Hopefully I get good enough to race a split with you.
Great explanation about the double apex - that is exactly what I needed to know to master that long curve with three green "apex marks" at Spa! ADDED: I revised my view on trail braking, apexes (and double apexes), and tried to embrace neutral steering and the result is AWESOME!! I was practicing on random cars and tracks in rFactor and then jumped into RBR to the Versme Rallycross track, one of my favorite RBR tracks. I was fighting with this one particularly (driving i20 2021 on custom settings), changed cars (on default settings) and could not improve. The biggest improvement was a few months ago when I upgraded from PS5 DualShock (gyro steering setup) to Fanatec CSL DD - that was 2.3 seconds and was not easy and quick result. But today I improved by another 3.4 s just in half an hour session on default car settings and not touching handbrake at all! That is so cool!! Thanks mate!!! P.S. The trail braking and its induced oversteering not only point the car into the carve but as the result helps driver to see more, especially on one monitor setup. It helps a lot.
I've been binge watching your coaching videos and I've been hooked ever since. I'm currently living the vanlife for almost 3 years now and so I haven't Sim-Race since then but when I get back, the first thing that I will do is sign up for at least two lessons for iRacing and ACC to see if the way I approach things are correct with the two different physics engine.
this pretty much sums up those AHA moments i've also gotten throughout the checklist. decided to start it a bit early before the end of my current league thinking i'd just binge thru it, then after my league really get down and dirty with it. but i've noticed that i'm subconsciously implementing concepts into my practice time, looking for mrp's, looking after the tires better, etc. i was in the horrible habit to drop the brakes completely once the car slowed down enough and just coasted about 25% of the corner in every corner... only 1 more race this weekend, 2hrs of nurbs, and then next week i get to install my first ever DD wheelbase, this will also mark the point in time where i fully dive into simracing.
At 12:20ish driver says “this is like high school class”…umm…no. This is like graduate level class…with Nobel Prize winning Richard Feynman. Technical genius to understand it…communication genius to explain it folks much less intelligent that he is. Suellio has mastered this understanding and can explain it to us like we are five. Words don’t exist in to describe his abilities to understand and teach this content, other than maybe saying he is the Richard Feynman of Quantum Motorsports Dynamics…or maybe SuellioGPT 8.0. Where is my credit card? I need set up a monthly payment. 🤣
Doing like you said - commenting at the start. After tons of practice and watching instruction, the problem is, I don't see anything he's doing wrong. Wish I did. It all looks fine to me.
Mu thoughts before: he is working with throttle wavy. It’s much better when you push pedals in one move. But idk how much time it’s losing, I’ve just started couple weeks ago too! 😄
I think the "development points" I spotted were regarding his inputs (acceleration and braking) which ultimately results in him being off position to nail the long compound/complex corners. He drives like a controller player.
Man you are a great teacher, i went to buy your course immediately, but then saw the price 👀 uuuuuuu i need to save up some more, its that or a steering wheel!
Initial: The braking seems very decent to me, but the main issue I see is the throttle. He seems to be a bit erratic with it, going on and off several times with the corner, and a smoother application might help improve the balance a bit more. There was also a bit of oversteer, but that was caught so not a huge issue
I just got I racing last night first ever sim I’m in love with racing how important is downshifting? I have no clue how to drive manual and just now using manual on my wheel is something to get use too instead of just staying in one gear and breaking
Ive been watching tutorials on youtube for a long time and its incredible that you are pretty much the only person that mentions rotation to such extent.
Nice! I wish you had added a lap just after the session with him, just to see if he could improve just by the conversation and applying that. Great video as always!
So the quote that you steer with your brakes and throttle is actually exemplified here in the first part of the video . I thought it was kind of metaphorical but its actually comppletely real
Now on the first corner you discussed. Wouldn't it be better to break later rotate sharper then potentially accelerate sooner? So almost using the V shape instead of U shape turn
My question is, do your techniques work on oval tracks. Everything from 1/4 mile to 1 1/2 mile tracks. As much as I like the occasional road course, I prefer to turn left all day. Lol
I’m a new sim racer and I’m currently in the top 2% on forza Motorsports for the Logitech competition. My time is 1:12:044. I feel like I’m capable of shaving off at least one more second but I am having a hard time (I believe) due to my G920 pedals. Can pedals be the culprit in a second or two?
Mind = blown. I’ve never been able to visualize these types of corner. Driving through corners like this, I always think I’m making a mistake when I miss that MSP point. The next lap I apex at the MSP point I keep wonder why my lap time is slower when I apex at MSP. 😮
What I think he needs to work on is a little more proper trail braking because his rear loses grip on some of the corners reducing his exit speed times. Another is better track experience because he gets lost in long corners.
Wait so basically if you are entering a corner you want your brake at 10% the whole time but in the middle of the turn you take off break to accelerate?
To me it seems he is not able to correctly address the transition between breaking and accelerating and vice versa, being too aggressive with the acceleration, too early. Also this leads to a loose back while breaking and a lose front while accelerating. Edit: wasn’t far off but your analysis has been waaaaay on depth. Loved the rotation with the Ferrari badge. Amazing. Thanks
Any thoughts on uploading some upper level coaching sessions with pro drivers or guys that are very high in irating. Whilst I know that I am not too good for any bit of knowledge. As a player in the top 2%, some of these videos can feel redundant. Thanks!
Great video. Though please do not use this music again. I have gotten multiple "heart attacks" as some of the sounds are very similar to the sound that our fire alarm software does. The first time I jumped and was ready to sprint to the fire department. xD
I have a question. I currently only play ACC and I am not into iRacing yet. I am also very much a beginner and find these tips useful. My question is, are these tips universally applicable (so also applicable to ACC) or only really for iRacing?
Ignoring exact numbers and drawn lines (as those can vary between different cars, track, environments and conditions), this is pretty much universally applicable
Alright thanks guys. Reason I was not sure is because in ACC I mainly just slam the brakes to close to 100% and lower from there trying to get a hang of trailbraking. But apparently in iRacing, as mentioned in the video, you can't really go past 60% so thought maybe that changed everything.
@@chocopastaa4707I think he has a video up explaining the difference in braking between the two Sims, might be a short. Definitely search through his videos, I think the difference is in the behaviour of the GT3 cars with respect to how they use ABS and traction control on ACC.

Calm down lil bro , getting a PhD in chemistry doesn't require intelligence just persistence and being a nerd 🤓
The concepts aren’t even that difficult but he is an extremely good teacher.

Fantastic video, so well explained, especially with the Ferrari logo.
I am just getting started- and These lessons have halped SO MUCH
I now understand how lines through hairpins work and how the apex is not always the mrp
Wow, some of the best corner analysis I ever have seen! Thanks for showing
I applied the technique in a 30 minute race about 439 times, and it did help a lot after I got the hang of it. Thanks again.
Great Vid Suellio ! these "real life cases" really supports and cements the content in the course

I always struggle with explaining trailing.
this is not that really a coaching 10:48 good? mh, I mean is basic stuff he explains but coaching is something else,
Love it Suellio, great video.
Another great video! Can’t wait to do a coaching session with you

Bravissimo, complimenti !
Suellio what car should I get after Miata’s. First car to buy that’s next level faster. I’m guessing gt4. Which car should I get
In the initial portion of the video, the driver needs to use ALL of the track & utilize the kerbs.
TIL orbital mechanics applies to race cars
Looks like the whole package is a bit loose. Improving everything will directly help bringing it together.
love this

This should be titled ACC Driver Tries iRacing
my frist thought : breaking earlier, accelerating too quickly idk im new
Lacking of rotation, and driving line can be better

How do I get a coaching lesson from u mate ty all the best
Wait im not understanding he just started and is racing B class?
game?
I think he needs more rotation
Left foot braking, vr, and get gloves haha
It's hardly a "fairytale" if they are owned by one of the richest people in the world with a network of clubs
I smell a dutchy learning iracing
first i noticed was he dont point the car and loss so much time waiting to accelerate
I wonder if you have brakes on the rear is tail braking still works?
regular race cars have brakes front and back, hence brake balance matters to distribute the brake power between front and back
but if you have only rear brakes. is tail braking still posible?
possibly theoretically, but i cannot imagine not just spinning out of control all the time :D
Try that on a controller
if you ever get bored of racing you could probably teach advanced physics to children
