- In this video I’ll be discussing the reason you should follow the TikTok trend of soaking your strawberries in vinegar and salt. After all, who wants to be greeted by unexpected visitors? Rather chase them away than consuming them! This one is for all the strawberry lovers out there, the hardest pill we’ve all ever had to swallow is the fact that strawberries take the number one spot on the annual Dirty Dozen food list. Now, this doesn’t mean we should all stop eating strawberries- after all they’re rich in potassium, folate, manganese, vitamin c, and antioxidants.
Have you seen the viral "Strawberry Challenge" that started on TikTok? I saw it posted on Facebook and found this post:

🍓🍓🍓After nearly 25 years of living, TikTok taught me how to properly wash strawberries. They are FILLED with tiny bugs and tons of dirt!! 🍓🍓🍓
1 part white vinegar
4 parts cold water
Sprinkle of salt
Let sit 5 min
Rinse with water
Pat dry
It just so happened that I had all of those things on hand, so I went ahead and did it to see what would happen. Much to my surprise, I had no bugs - I got these organic GoodFarms Strawberries from Natural Grocers and perhaps they had already been rinsed clean.

Omg your video saved me from quit having strawberries.
She broke it down very simple, thank you.
WOW! I had no idea! TYSVM for this great info, Jenny honey! :)
This is what I got too! No bugs.
yay! glad to hear it!
I tried it with non organic strawberries and found a few live ones but prior to soaking I saw a few tiny dead bugs in the leaves. I always rinse my produce but thanks for the advice on soaking very interesting!!!
ew!!
I know lol I rinsed them like crazy once they were done soaking and when I dried them with a paper towel only the strawberry hairs were on it
@@nicolecandelaria8542 that's good! i actually ate strawberries the other day and forgot to soak them - i probably ate a few bugs. ew.
@@antioxidantfruits same I didn’t even know ew
I wish you had eaten at least one slice to let us know if the soaking ruined the taste of the strawberries. Also, great idea of giving the birds the scraps. I never thought of that but will start doing it in the future. Thanks for the video.
The taste didn’t change - maybe heightened it in a good way? It was fine.
I have seen on many other posts that you are just supposed to “dip” berries. It says that due to their porous skin, the vinegar will effect the flavor of the berries?? I’ve never tried this method so does anybody know if this is true?
i tried this method and did not think the strawberries absorbed the vinegar - if anything it enhanced the strawberry flavor.
To my understanding, the bugs are microscopic- so if there were any bugs you would need a microscope to see them...
