Grow your own healthy greens that stay fresh! You can easily do that right on your window sill with Hamama growing system. You don’t have to have a green thumb or a garden to grow healthy delicious greens. The Hamama kit will grow on a window sill, even if there is very little sunlight. You can enjoy wheatgrass, kale cabbage microgreens and so much more. The kits can be reused again and again by ordering more seed quilts. Use the microgreens in salads, smoothies, sandwiches or anything else you can think of. They stay fresh because they are alive and ready for you to eat. They grow quickly and ready to harvest in as little as 7 days. You only have to water once, and you don’t have to worry about sunlight or humidity. They also make great gifts.
Strawberries. IF you aren’t careful, strawberries can go bad fast. The best way to prevent this is to wash them as soon as you get them home. Wash them in a solution of 8 parts water to 1 part vinegar. This helps to kill the mold spores. After you wash them, rinse them well to make sure there is no vinegar on them and then dry them. Wash the container they came In and then dry it. Place a dry paper towel at the bottom of the container and replace the strawberries. Store them in the fridge.
Cilantro, tarragon and other herbs can really spice up the cooking, but if not stored properly, they go limp and dry out. Instead, store them in a cup of water and place them in the fridge. This will keep them fresh for days and days.
Asparagus will last the longest if you trim the edges before you put them away. Store them upright in a glass of water to keep them crispy the longest.
Avocados are best if stored at room temperature on the counter until they are ripe. If they are ripe, but you aren’t ready to eat them yet, go ahead and store them in the fridge. If you have half an avocado, sprinkle it with lemon juice and store it with the pit in, to prevent oxidation and to keep it fresher longer.
Bell peppers. Store them in the fridge unwashed. Residual moisture can make bell peppers prematurely. They are best to wash right before use.
Celery should be stored in the fridge but don’t store them in the plastic wrap. This traps ethylene gasses making them go bad faster. To keep them longer, wrap them in foil and put them in the crispy drawer of your fridge.
Cucumbers are sensitive to cold, and temperatures lower than 50 degrees can damage the vegetable. Unlike most other vegetables, cucumbers are one of the few that last longer at room temperature.
Carrots store well on the counter but store even longer in the fridge. Precut carrots can be stored in their bag. To keep them crispier longer, store them in a little water.
Oranges are often stored on the counter, and they will last up to a week at room temperate. But they will last up to several weeks in the fridge.

Thank you! I came here because all of our strawberries had mold on them. We just got them about 4 days ago. I've never purchased fruits and vegetables, so I googled what to do with each one. They didn't mention the things that you did. This is a very helpful video.

covering cilantro and parsley with a plastic bag works wonders! I also renew the water once in a while. I've had them last over 3 weeks so far :) my cilantro is even sprouting roots

Bell peppers and tomatoes do not go in the fridge. It makes them rot faster.

Good information, but I have discovered that storing banana's on the counter top in a grocery bag or the bag you place them in when buying from the grocery, or both, then cover them with a huge dark bowl, as I have a huge Tupperware black bowl slows down the banana's from ripening. Also when freezing banana's, peel banana's, then place 3-5 side by side in a quart freezer bag, zip lock, then fold over freeze tape or masking tape it, write banana's on it and the date of storage. Could last 6 mos or more this way, excellent for banana nut bread, or to make a banana milkshake with.

Wash it, then roll them like a cinnamon rolls in a paper/kitchen towel. It helps keep the moisture at bay. Store in fridge.

What about lemons and potatoes? Both out of fridge

    • @truesight91
      @truesight91 9 місяців тому

Both can be stored in the fridge to preserve their life and to prevent sprouting (potatoes).

I have been doing this for several years now it works great. It works great with blueberries as well. I was taught never to wash your berries until using them.

Why is it that veggies and fruit that I grow even when stored the proper way still doesn't last as long as grocery store veggies and fruit?

    • @RoseLane03

The store picks breeds solely for surviving transportation. They’re also sprayed with stuff you don’t use in your own garden.
