Ann Wilson is possibly the greatest female rock vocalist of her generation. And her sister Nancy was a kickass rock & roll guitar player at a time when women weren't supposed to do stuff like that. Props to both of them.
The crazy part is, the guitar was bought for Ann because her parents thought it would help her be more outgoing, since she was kind of a shy kid, she tried it but couldn't really get into it. So her sister started messing around with it and Ann started singing....the rest is history!
Pat Benatar comes in right behind her for the next generation. Then you got Amy Lee followed closely by Lizzy Hale. And in no way shape or form are these in any order and there's new ones every day that I'm leaving out.
yep, Heart, Kansas, April Wine, Boston, all great bands from the 70's and 80's. Real musicians, playing real music without all the auto tune fake @$$ crap like we have now. They made all those sounds with instruments...not by a computer.
@@drwatsonca6945 That makes me quite envious. I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd open for The Marshall Tucker Band in Lincoln, NE in '73 or '72. Can't remember which. Could have been the last time Skynyrd ever opened for anyone. But, the Tucker Band was their equal that night. There were a whole lot of lead guitar players on the stage that night. I saw Heart for the 1st time last fall in St. Paul. They were great! And, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts opened for them.
Ann Wilson was one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time (male or female). Of course she had an awesome voice, but she used it so well, so tastefully, in a way that always fit the song/music. Unlike some others with great voices, she knew when to exercise restraint and to give space to her fellow musicians (a talented bunch, as well!). Awesome performance.
Take some notes from Ann Wilson!! She's one of the best of all time!! Her sister Nancy is a very good guitarist, can sing as well(These Dreams)!🤘🤘 great reaction!
I could not agree with you more, amazing does not come close to describing them. I was ten when this was filmed. I did not come to know them until my late teens. I saw them in concert in 1987 (yes I'm old), and with out a doubt it was the best concert I ever went to. They are flawless, what they sound like in the studio, is how they sound in concert. I have seen a number of bands in concert in which the live performance paled in comparison to their studio sound. Heart is a completely different animal, they were as good as it gets, and yes you would have been blown away to see them live. I would recommend the Heart Tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy center, absolutely worth the watch.
I saw them when this came out. I was in HS. The highlight was their cover of Zeppelin’s Rock n Roll! Ann would go on to sing for them at the Kennedy Center honors. She’s the best of their interpreters.
From back at a time when talented musicians and singers fueled the music scene. So glad this music is accessible today or I would have very little to listen to.
@@DarkScorpionPete98 the record company wanted to suggest that with creative photography of them. "all men have that fantasy of lesbian sisters". Ann wrote the song to channel her rage.
Some other great Heart songs you should check out: "Magic Man", "Straight On", "Heartless", "Even It Up", "Tell It Like It Is", "Dog & Butterfly" "Crazy On You" and "Dreamboat Annie".
I saw them twice 1st time was 1977 then again in 1978 and they only played songs from the Dreamboat Annie album and the Dog and Butterfly album no Zep at those shows. Maybe it was a more recent thing.
@@KodenameKrusty True. I saw them many times & the early days were promoting their own tunes. Later, maybe in the 80's they would play some Zeppelin tunes as encore. See Kennedy Center honor.
Curt Marsh Yes I saw the Kennedy Center Honors for LED Zeppelin where Heart performed their music. I also know from way back when that Heart was referred to as the American Led Zeppelin.
🤘😎👍 #ScribeSquad This is the first song I ever called into a radio station to request. I unfortunately requested Stevie Nix - Barracuda and confused the heck out of the DJ... I also thought Stevie was a guy which he cleared up for me.. It made the air. In my defence I was like 6yo 😂.
One of the things I miss the most in recent music are real drummers. There is nothing that can touch a beast behind a kit and back in the day, you either knew how to lay down a beat or your band went nowhere! Some of the greatest drummers in rock history came our of this era.
This song is about the sexism that Ann and Nancy experienced within the music industry They thought they would be taken as musicians but everyone expected them to be sexpots. And the rest.
Anne kills it when she's belting it out at her loudest.. not that many lead singers have that ability in their toolbox.. the louder they go, usually the shakier their voice gets..
My dad restored classic cars when I was little for extra money. The car in the music video for this song is a '66 Barracuda and, we had one for a few years. Wonderful car, a bit of a gas guzzler for its size because it had a stainless steel frame, but it cornered well. My dad had it painted like bumble bee from transformers. (he isn't into comics, that was just the paint job he gave it)
As I say in any Heart reactions: Ann was our Floor Jansen of our time. Seen them 4 times and Ann never missed a note. As has been mentioned they could probably make a living being a Zepp cover band. That's how good they are.
You definitely felt that song run through you like a million volts just charging you up with every sense of appreciation for this time in music. Welcome to how real music was played. Real drums, guitar , voices and energy produced for your real enjoyment. ✌️
The motivation for this song was an ad a record exec run to promote their album and it basically implied the two sisters had sex with each other. Needless to say they were pissed.
Got to see a great outdoor all day concert in 1978 or 79 in Denver as a teen. Heart, the Cars, etc. All the acts were great, but these Sisters and their band rocked so hard they encored four times. Artists really layed it out back then, not just for the fans but for the other musicians there, not a competition really, more of an exploration of music. Another great review, thanks Scribe.
Ann Wilson is my favorite rock singer. Nancy on backup vocals and Guitar is Amazing as well. The Band altogether is Awesome! React to "Straight on" "Crazy on you" and "Even it up"
Ann & Nancy Wilson paved the way in rock music for other women! They were often called the female Led Zeppelin! That's why Led Zeppelin asked for them to do Stairway To Heaven when they were awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 2013. Check out that version of Ann, Nancy, the late John Bonham' s (the drummer for Led Zeppelin) son Jason...it will brings goosebumps to your body & tears to your eyes! Trust me!!!
The Wilson sisters were turning out some of the best rock music into the late 70s and the 80s when good rock music was dieing as a child of the 60s I had already started listening to country music like Hank Jr ,Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings
The Wilson sisters were 2 of the pioneers of women in hard rock.. they were the bomb ass bitches that kicked in the door for ladies to be the bosses rather the arm candy in hard rock.. and what a beautiful thing that is.. because the ladies are kicking ass in every style now.. but hey.. heart was one of the first to prove the girls could hang with the best of the boys!!!
This song was written in retaliation to record companies and PR gossip machines.....listen to the lyrics.... The song Crazy on you is a very sexy song.....
Sonically live they were the best concert I’ve ever seen and that was just a few years ago. They did “Black Dog” by Led Zepplin and the hair stood up on the back of my neck it was sooo good.
Heart was one of the best groups out there, even when they commercialized in the 80s,they were still better than just about anyone else.Ann Wilson is one the best and identifiable voices in rock. You should also check out Pat Benatar,an equally strong vocalist that could really rock out.
Yeah, the Wilson sisters! Rockin' band, classic tune. You mentioned seeing more females in rock, a couple of all female bands from the early '70's you should check out," Special Care" by Fanny and "Free Spirit" by Birtha.
Before I saw this vid I was hoping you would check out Heart. I knew you would be into it. Definitely check out some of Heart's more recent performances, they still sound incredible. ✌
The Runaways with Lita Ford and Joan Jett and Heart were the pioneers for women in rock and add Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie the doors opened before that producers wouldn't touch all female bands also Vixen was another all female band that could rock but they were in the 80's

You'll love Heart's "Magic Man" or "Crazy On You"
my favorites!
Magic man and crazy on you are two that you should listen to soon......Killer songs
The drummer is killing it.
Soon you will getting tons of request for them doing live Stairway to Heaven. In front of Zep at Kennedy
Yes Ann & Nancy Wilson with Jason Bonham really nailed that performance and brought Robert Plant into tears
Nothing wrong with that.
One of the best covers I've ever heard, of any song.
Was always jealous of my parents because they got to see Heart and Kansas on a double bill in the 70s.
Well ain't that a little jam session lol
