An explanation on the Antlion Incident: Zic's Job Point routing was off because Bartz was dead at the end of an earlier fight so he did not have the !Mix ability to raise Krile's level so Zeninage could deal more damage and outpace Antlion's Dischord attack halving level (level is *the most* important stat in damage calc). The couch proposed using Sleep so Antlion couldn't attack but it requires Black Magic Level 2 so Bartz had to swap to Black Mage. This then exposed a Pixel Remaster exclusive bug where Antlion will fully heal on death when put to Sleep rather than Flee. So they had to wake up Antlion before the final Zeninage would kill it. It took so long to figure out this improv strategy due to intense stage pressure.
I'd heard it was an ABP routing issue (which I know can't be fixed between Exdeath's castle and Antlion because random spawns are turned off) but I didn't realize there was a bug with sleep on PR. And I imagine there aren't any scrolls to throw or rods to snap that would have worked either. To be able to route that on the fly during the finale of a GDQ is nothing short of incredible. That was amazing!
Just saw this live and I have to say that this was one of the most amazing Speedruns I've ever witnessed on GDQ off of sheer energy alone. The skill and patience Zig displayed, especially during the hiccup before the final boss was some amazing stuff
Watched it live. I had secondhand apprehension during the antlion roadblock but it was awesome how Zic and the couch figured out a winning strat on the fly like that. Great job.
One cool thing about FFV is that, with enough game knowledge, tons and tons of boss fights are winnable regardless of level or grinding, due to the ridiculous power of status ailments, MP draining, perfect evasion/!Guard, and other clever strategies that just aren't effective against bosses in many other games. (Having !Mix saves a huge amount of headache, though; even if you ban Kiss of Blessing due to bypassing Berserk immunity and breaking everything, the sheer number of immunities it can grant and its ability to inflict certain statuses without a magic evasion check is crazy good.)
As someone who was finally in the live audience. It was fun to finally be in the audience, being the one going “Let’s go Twitch Chat!” Rather than being the one to respond to the call. I was not hopeful that we would make it, but Twitch Chat pulled through for us. What a wild time it was.
I've run into the Antlion brick wall in many Fiesta runs where it was hard to do any damage at all with Dischord. I super related to that struggle, and honestly enjoyed watching it more than the rest of the run because it was a cool problem to solve. Nice job guys.
I saw this live and the hype was purely unmatched. The way they managed to reach the 2.5 million goal was so wild and contagious I couldn't help but do my part as well and donated for the first time! So glad I managed to see it live and through the end!
Congrats on an amazing end to this year's AGDQ! I hadn't had the ability to watch it live before, and first time donating, and being able to see them hit that $2.5 million mark was just so hype, I couldn't sleep for a bit afterward!
Only caught the last hour or so of this run, but heck of a way to end the event. Really loved having a long game to wind the event down --probably one of my favorites since puwexil ran Chrono Trigger 100% at SGDQ2019
Final Fantasy has the best soundtrack. Nobuo Uematsu just kinda showed up and set the first brick. Slapped together the title theme and victory theme that literally carries the entire series. Stand-out tracks include Mt. Gulg, Chaos Shrine, and the ever memorable Matoya's Cave. Probably one of the best musical foundations in gaming literally rivaling Mario and Zelda for recognition.
thank u Zic3 for the amazing speedrun and thank u Couch for the amazing explain about the run etc. Thank u Games Done Quick for the amazing event, each year i comeback here to watch speedruns on youtube on your channel!
I have a Final Fantasy playlist, and Battle at the Bridge has always been my favorite. Version 2 FFRK is my favorite because the incorporated vocals really take it to the next level. I’m so glad to see it gets the love it deserves from the speed runners. Final Fantasy makes such a great soundtracks. They are a unique mood. Final Fantasy IX has my favorite soundtrack, but Battle at the Bridge is definitely the best song out of everything.
This became my favorite final fantasy game after i finally finished it with the PR. Its a shame we missed out on the cutscenes of this one. Theres not much "plot" necessarily but it packs a lot of emotion in each of those short blurbs of exposition
On today's episode of soft lock picking... :) The Antlion lock is a nightmare scenario that every FF5 fan has probably considered at least once. Hard to believe it happened for real, at a live event! Plus that 'fullheal instead of flee' bug was something no one would've seen coming. Good job getting out of it! And a fantastic run otherwise, too.
Watched this live, and watching it again with my wife. AMAZING perseverance and display of knowledge here. Great showcase of skill and understanding. Bravo, well done.
Loved the run but Google hasn't been kind on letting me find that Cutscene Remover other than the FFX one. I kinda want it now given it would speed up my Four Job Fiesta runs. 😅
Why didn't the runner just press R3 to toggle random encounters on/off instead of escaping every battle? If this was explained somewhere in the run then I probably missed it, but I hope someone could explain!
I'm so mad they kept reading donations while they were figuring out how to deal with antlion. Come on! We all wanted to hear them brainstorm solutions, and share their ups and downs on this hurdle...
1:50:38 Her name in Japanese is spelled "Ku-ru-ru". I take that is being pronounced like "Krill-uh" in English. It definitely is NOT a long "i" sound, like they're saying it.
It’s a reference to a series of Zenigata Heiji detective novels written in Japan in the 1930s where said detective captured criminals by throwing coins at them. The novels are set in the Edo period, when samurai existed.
Gil Toss references a popular series of Japanese novels from the 1930s about a policeman in the Edo period named Zenigata Heiji, who captured criminals by throwing coins at them. (From the FF Fandom wiki)
It's from the fictional detective, Heiji Zenigata, hence the Zeni-nage name here and "Heiji's Jitte" item from FFVI (GBA). I'm not sure how Final Fantasy brought samurai into the equation, other than "the Zenigata stories are set in the Edo period, and samurai are cooler / more badass than policemen."

Thank you very much for this explanation
The fact that all three of them were workshopping solutions on the fly was amazing.
Is it actually a glitch? I haven't seen anything mentioned on it and I was just to research it more. Genuinely just wanting to make sure, thanks!

Unintentional stall strats for a GDQ finisher is welcome.
2:05:30 this will go down as a legendary display of determination!!

Do you think it's worth watching knowing nothing about ff
@@Vict0rRezn0v Yes! The only FF I ever played was Mystic Quest on the Gameboy and I had a blast watching this. Real good rollercoaster.
@@Vict0rRezn0vYep! The classic JRPG runs at GDQ have *spectacular* commentary. They also tend to be extremely hype crowd-wise :)

Props to the team this year. Also this is the fastest I've seen runs appear on UA-cam!!!!!
HOORAY!!!!

Conquering the antlion was one of the most unexpected highlights I’ve had watching a gdq
that was a great run, even with the raid boss Antlion stopping progress
I saw this live and the hype was purely unmatched. The way they managed to reach the 2.5 million goal was so wild and contagious I couldn't help but do my part as well and donated for the first time! So glad I managed to see it live and through the end!
Amazing run, best GDQ run i’ve ever watched. Nicely done zic
This run has one of the best crowds for a closer I've ever seen as that goal amount gets ever closer to the donation incentive!
Congrats on an amazing end to this year's AGDQ! I hadn't had the ability to watch it live before, and first time donating, and being able to see them hit that $2.5 million mark was just so hype, I couldn't sleep for a bit afterward!
2:22:22 gaming

Set the brick work? The man was he main composer for the first 10 games. He built the whole fucking house.
2:53:55 I was surprised they made it this far, but I'm glad they did. 🙂
FF-Type 0 doesn’t get enough love. Has some of my favorite tracks, and that Alexander scene is just amazing
Great to see FF5 get some love. such an underrated gem. amazingly cozy overall and great job system
Bravely Default/Second are the best FF OST fight me. Also god run and godder commentary, what a way to end a marathon! Can't wait for SGDQ!
thank u Zic3 for the amazing speedrun and thank u Couch for the amazing explain about the run etc.
Thank u Games Done Quick for the amazing event, each year i comeback here to watch speedruns on youtube on your channel!
I’m glad the ff14 soundtrack got some love. Some absolute BANGERS!
Thanks folks for a great event another year, love
All my homies hate antlion
Can't believe Final Fantasy Mystic Quest didn't get any best soundtrack love. Almost every track in that game is a banger.
1:17:00
It did. Several times, actually
It got mentioned and for good reason
Great run, best Final Fantasy.
Excelent run, that unfurtunate bugs and rare encounter somehow made the run a lot of more fun. Good gdq

1:18:05 Love how, when the donation ends on "plus NieR", the whole couch can't help but make the "truly valid argument" emote.

Yooo, finally got a donation read on stream after 7 years, and during THE FINAL!
I've given at least once (usually 2 or 3 times) at every AGDQ and SGDQ since 2016 (been watching since 2014) and never had one read. Congrats!
amazing run. FF5 is my favorite in the franchise. thank you
Lenna's just chillin' on the final battles lmfao
Just gonna mention FFXVI had some incredible music. The Hideaway has become one of my favorites
On today's episode of soft lock picking... :)

This was a really fun run to watch live. I'm so glad to have seen so many people come together like this.
Love the runs but I really wish this playlist wasn't a "directors cut" version of the full event :( So miss the prize segments...
"Phillip J Fr" 💀
Should have made the thumbnail the Antlion instead
Agreed.
Money... mmm double money. Final Fantasy 4 is my favorite to play and 6 is my favorite soundtrack.
1:49:53 It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, a half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it!
1:11:32 World Two
Watched this live, and watching it again with my wife. AMAZING perseverance and display of knowledge here. Great showcase of skill and understanding. Bravo, well done.
HOORAY!
The Carbuncle struggle is just making me think of Abyssos's Scream from the Endwalker soundtrack.
Improv HYPE

The best FF TCG is Triple Triad.
Awesome run, wosh they did a ff3 or 4 run but maybe another time.
This is one of the most epic finales ever! Loved every minute of it!!
So...I gotta an unskippable 3 minute track...from Vikings...well...what a twist.
I'm so mad they kept reading donations while they were figuring out how to deal with antlion. Come on! We all wanted to hear them brainstorm solutions, and share their ups and downs on this hurdle...

Ant lion/dischord more op than ex death and omega weapon
A level 1 frog with !Mix solos all of these, but not having !Mix is a whole different game.
Antlion was the superboss
Thank you for moving the time estimate because of stall strats, tech crew 😂
Yo what’s the song at the end of the video?
Does anyone know the song name for the credits music? 3:23:55
Excellent
Does anyone know where the whole idea of "Samurai throwing money as a weapon" came from? I'm not aware of any real samurai who did that.
It’s a reference to a series of Zenigata Heiji detective novels written in Japan in the 1930s where said detective captured criminals by throwing coins at them. The novels are set in the Edo period, when samurai existed.

Hypest ending of a GDQ event ever. 😮
YAAASSSS FFV in GDQ! Gimme more.
FF5 reminds me - backwards - about the amazing music of FF14 !
55.55 DOLLARS 55 FRIES 55 SHAKES 55 BURGERS
So heartening to hear support for MSF and ceasefire at AGDQ!
Warriors of light save the world with money
ah Ex Death, the evil giving tree
"we nuke him into existence" xD
Run is cool, but wish they didn’t remove the cutscenes. It would be nice to have the story explained as they go too
Speedster
the only reason more people didn’t say FF7 is bc it’d be basic
evidence: Woady’s admission
anyone who says chrono cross is better is capping.
