  • Thr Ruger LCP II "Lite Rack" .22, is a compact easy to manipulate .22 caliber semi auto pistol that is optimized for high velocity .22lr ammo. Ten +1 capacity and an easy to rack slide, combined with it's compact size make it a good choice for concealed carry if you choose to carry a .22 for personal protection.

    You convinced me to never buy Winchester .22 ammo ever again. The McCarbo trigger spring kit and replacement trigger do wonders for these LCP II pistols.

    I had similar problems out of mine, light primer strikes new out of the box. Almost wrote it off as a defensive tool because of it, but i really wanted it to work for when it does run it fit my needs perfectly. So after some research i found the galloway precision spring kit. It has been one of the most reliable firearms ive ever had since installing that kit. Havent found an ammo it doesnt like after putting that kit in. I keep it clean and it just works now, carry it everywhere i am allowed for the last year or so. Love this pistol.

    Excellent video! My LCR is excellent and the only problem I've had was with Winchester ammo. All failures to fire. When I pulled the bullets, I found little or no priming compound in the cases. Its especially concerning that the PREMIUM, high dollar Winchester Silvertip round that someone may depend upon for defense, has the same lame-ass quality control as their junk bulk ammo. Use CCI. Even their low end stuff goes bang every time in my experience.

    Really glad to see you review this. You're the first I've seen do it in 22lr. I think I like what I see for 299. Ruger should forego the loader and add another mag in my opinion. Thanks for a quality review.

    • @SmallCaliberArmsReview
      @SmallCaliberArmsReview  2 роки тому +1

      That would be a good move on their part if they did. The loading tool isn't needed for the .22 version, they load easy. I don't think deleting the tool would offset the price of an extra mag but it would probably help sell more of them. The 299 was a sale price, 409 was the MSRP, I think the average street price is about 330ish. Thanks for watching!

    finally this is what I was looking for! I'm carrying this gun in the summer in shorts and I want to have at least some punch if needed for self defense. I keep buying high velocity ammo thinking it's the recoil from the round that is causing my next chambered round to fail, looks like it's the brand of ammo.
    I'm sure this ammo would run through a rifle just fine. If someone makes a handgun chambered for .22lr ammo, it better fire .22lr ammo all damn day!!!

    Excellent review. I had very similar experiences with my former LCP ll 22lr. Sent it to Ruger repair twice for misfeeds, light primer strikes and poor accuracy including keyholing.
    They replaced the barrel and slide which fixed everything except for the light primer strikes. Any Olin ammo-Winchester/Browning, had the most light primer strikes. CCI, Aguila and Federal ammo between 1200 and 1300 FPS worked best. I think the Lite Rack easy slide operation may be too easy. I kept all of the light primer stuck ammo and they all fired from a different 22lr.

      It's funny how each pistol or rifle can be unique itself ammo wise. I have the Ruger LCP II .22LR and even though I have not put a ton of ammo through it yet I've only tried high velocity ammo so far shooting it with no problems. Recently watched .22 Plinkster do a review on this pistol and he said Ruger recommends high velocity ammo in this gun, but Plinkster was using the CCI standard 1070 in his Ruger LCP II .22lr with no problems. Ha watched another guys video on Ruger LCPII .22lr and he was running all brands of ammo, but said it was hanging up on CCI standard 1070,go figure.

    We bought our lcp ll almost a year ago and tested a dozen different brands of ammo (100 rds per) through it...we immediately discarded all Winchester, Aguila, and Federal for too many failures...the only ammo to pass 100 round test were cci 36gr mini-mags, blazers, and thunderbolts...because we had so many failures during testing we do not trust the gun and keep it for a range toy...the rare times we carry .22lr it is in a revolver... -i think the problem everybody seems to have with the winchester stems from the funny shaped nose of the bullet, if it was rounded perhaps it would feed better...?

      Had the same problems with mine. Installed a spring kit from galloway precision in mine and it performs flawlessly now. Their spring kit puts 10% more pressure on the hammer, and the ejector. 10%less on the firing pin return spring and I believe the slide spring if i recall correctly. What ever scorcery they did with it, it worked wonders in mine. I believe ruger was trying to do alot in as small of machine as possible and in pushing everything to its tiny limits just didnt work with some ammo. The 10% changes in the springs made a world of difference. Only ammo mine doesnt like now it the cci stingers. Has run everything else ive fed it flawlessly. Remington golden bullet, thunder bolts, cci standard,and even the semi auto quiet… for science, aguila super maximum both 40 gr round nose and 38 gr hollow point, the winchester bulk he had problems with and federal punch

    I broke my LCP II .22 in today and was floored by the accuracy I got, even at 50 yards, had only 1 FTF to on the first Mag,
    Got some vids up and a few shorts, bought the LCP II as a trainer for my LCP max and a plinker, im definitely going to improve the front sight, probably do a fine tall shotgun bead in front of the front sight, this gun is plenty accurate enough for pest control and would make a good gun for survival small game hunting in a pinch.

    I have had the Ruger LCP II since it was first introduced and picked up the LCP Max a month or so ago. Both are in 380. I spend a lot at the gun range so when I found the option to fire 22 LR from an LCP I jumped at it. I just picked up a new LCP II in 22LR. Can't wait to shoot it.
    Other uses have merit but for me, the huge cost savings were the primary factor.

      I went the reverse order you did. Got the 22 first then the 380 by somewhat happy mistake, it was supposed to be another 22. Tho the 380 has been nothing but reliable with no modifications out of the box, for some reason i shoot the 22 version exceptionally better than its 380 counterpart. So after some work to make the 22 extremely reliable, i now carry it, in the provided holster, everywhere im allowed to. It is always on me. I love it

    I don't think "light strikes" are the issue... I had a lot of misfires, even with my Ruger 10/22 with Winchester and Browning (especially) and found an article showing how some manufacturers have (very) inconsistent rim thicknesses... i.e. I could use most or all of the misfires in one of my revolvers, and it went off... but it seems if they have less thickness (than "normal") then they don't fire in some (or most) of my semi-auto... After seeing this first hand by comparison with other brands (CCI/Federal/etc) I I traded off all the Browning and Winchester for other brands...

    You don’t need to pull the trigger to take apart this gun, and the front rim of the magazine, under the nose of the top round, works to pop out the pin.

    • @SmallCaliberArmsReview
      @SmallCaliberArmsReview  2 роки тому +2

      No, I know, the problem I had was that I didn't remove the magazine. I did question myself in the video, then discovered what I did wrong. Yes you would need some sort of tool to disassemble, I'm not sure I would use the thin metal of the magazine, especially when new. Any way you look at it, you'll probably need something other than your bare hands for disassembly. There will also be a pin that could be lost if disassembly was done in the field. The Ruger SR22 has a great takedown procedure with no risk of losing a pin. You may never have to actually field strip one actually "In the field" but there is always a possibility. I'm in no way trying to degrade the gun by pointing out the takedown procedure, I just prefer firearms with a simple "no tools" disassembly. Thank you for watching!

    I've been seeing a lot of complaints about Winchester .22 ammo lately. Odd, as it used to be the best. The only .22 ammo I ever had problems with was CCI and I think the Mini Mags in particular, and in only one pistol. Was a high-quality pistol too and all I could ever figure out was that the brass was too thick or hard or something. Or maybe the firing pin spring was just a little bit weak in this particular pistol, but it fired anything and everything else I put in it.

      I think they all have bad batches from time to time. I really like Remington Thunderbolts for "bulk" ammo but some people hate it. Sometimes it can be a combination of ammo, weak springs, heavy slides and a gun that just needs cleaned and lubed that cause problems.

    Just ship a few snap caps with them and allow that firing pin to do it’s job right. This would save a lot of headaches. I hate people blaming the ammo when it’s usually not the cause. But today’s Winchesters are JUNK.

      I think the Punch and Silvertip stuff is mostly for revolvers. This makes the second semi auto that didn't like either one of the self defense .22 ammo. Thanks for watching!

      If you havent written it off yet check out galloway precision. They offer a spring kit that fixed my light primer strike problem. Mine eats everything except cci stingers now.

    Wow that's expensive 😢 for 22 . I might have to pass . I can find a 22mag for less and you can put down a deer with a 22 mag so it should be suitable to use as a backup
