  • This is the end of the "Trilogy" on the album and this song was originally demoed in Mauritius when I was on vacation. I remember being in a particularly good mood and wondering why all my heavy riffs had to be so dark, and I decided to try to write something a bit "happier" sounding. And that is how I Soundclick demo known as "The Moonstar". Again this idea felt incomplete to the band and I, and I didn't want to work on it until I could take a really good stab at it, and I ended up writing the rest of this song on a retreat. Even if the other guys aren't writing, I definitely like having them there to oversee things and get their opinion on my ideas and where the song/arrangement is heading. I wanted this song to have a Jekyll/Hyde kind of arrangement so that it could end on a dark note to really contrast the upbeat and happy first half, and the doomy middle section ended up being a good way to bridge the two halves of the song. When we started writing the trilogy, we realized that we could arrange this song to be not only the end of the song but the end of the album, especially as the second riff of this song is a reference to the second riff of Muramasa, and lyrically it worked perfectly for what was going on in the story. Spencer ended up taking a very different approach to this song which caught me off guard at first, but once I started understanding what he was going for I realized that he knew exactly what he was doing. I think for everyone else in the band, this song was the "take it or leave it" song, but I was the one really gunning for it. When it all came to life in the studio and had Spencer's complete ideas, I think it quickly became one of our favorites, and on a lot of days it is my favorite song on the album. Originally, I had planned a different ending for this song where it would go back to a prettier riff from earlier on after the groove at the end, but the rest of the guys were adamant about having the song fade out on a heavy riff. I was reluctant at first, but then i toyed with the idea and realized that their idea was indeed better. A lot of people think that because of the end riff in the song that the song is played in a weird tuning or on an 8 string. In actuality it is a 7 string in Drop Ab as usual, but for the very last riff, we detuned the guitars and bass at random to get a huge sludgy sound. Presumably we will just do that when we play this song live as well. I think this song would be a great way to close a set! - Misha

if you guys didn't know or haven't noticed 3:27 this part the lyrics are same with Muramasa's beginning lyrics, here is the reason why if you guys didn't know A legend tells of a test where Muramasa challenged his master, Masamune, to see who could make a finer sword. They both worked tirelessly, and when both swords were finished, they decided to test the results. The contest was for each to suspend the blades in a small creek with the cutting edge facing against the current. Muramasa's sword, the (十千夜寒, "10,000 Cold Nights") cut everything that passed its way; fish, leaves floating down the river, the very air which blew on it. Highly impressed with his pupil's work, Masamune lowered his sword, the (柔らかい手, "Tender Hands"), into the current and waited patiently. Only leaves were cut. However, the fish swam right up to it, and the air hissed as it gently blew by the blade. After a while, Muramasa began to scoff at his master for his apparent lack of skill in the making of his sword. Smiling to himself, Masamune pulled up his sword, dried it, and sheathed it. All the while, Muramasa was heckling him for his sword's inability to cut anything. A monk, who had been watching the whole ordeal, walked over and bowed low to the two sword masters. He then began to explain what he had seen.

Can't argue with that. I'm super picky, but when a band hits me, it hits hard. In my almost 37 years on this planet, i've had maybe 4 or 5 bands who hit the living crap out of me for months on heavy rotation, but after less than a year of getting to know them, I don't think any band ever slapped the wrinkles out of my ballsack like Periphery.

They were amazing!! They played Ragnarok, Have a Blast, Buttersnips, Facepalm Mute, Make Total Destroy and Icarus Lives. They were supporting Between the Buried and Me who were equally as amazing.

Where he sings "Dark and grim for a memory. Measuring all the glory as it seemed. Was it enough for eternity? Foolish schemes for a destiny lined with dreams all came crashing down on me. What will become of the energy"
...whatever you wanna call it I just call it the chorus

You tread your path and look at your surroundings. You feel familiar with everything. As you move on, you slowly begin to get a bad feeling. As something would change by every second. You feel your hands shaking...as you would be in fear. You quickly check your surroundings again, but now, your fearful feeling has a reason...because, as you did, you realize all of this is not familiar with you. You have no idea, where you are....

The opening Ab riff is so cool. It's one note but it carries so much weight.

The Trilogy is referring to swords in the Final Fantasy series. They are also known names for actual swords created by the swordsmiths going by the same names. (With the exception of Ragnarok, which is the Norse mythology doomsday.)

I hate being the old guy - romanticizing about the past, but god damn, 2010-2020 was such a fantasy era for me regarding new music releases, tours, and community; despite the fact that we all said shit like Dj0nt #Djent
