I love Fela. I have lived in Lagos from 73 to 76 and I used to visit him in his house and at the shrine where he had a bad habit in asking people the next song he should play. And as soon as he noticed me in the crowd he would say NO before I opened my mouth. He knew that I was going to ask for Trouble Sleep (as usual). He hated me for this because he never wanted to play a song that was already recorded. My life in Lagos in those years are unforgettable. I was in my twenties straight from Paris to Yaba. I met there the most wonderful people in the world and unfortunately I have lost tracks of all of them. Sniff! Sniff! Sniff!
That is super cool, but I reckon he may have been upset with that request coz of all the way better songs he had in his repertoire! ;-) (that, yes, didn't mean as much to you personally) Please understand I mean you no personal disrespect. Just trolling! I love everyone who reads this especially YOU!
Fela Kuti is the best musical artist to emerge from the continent of Africa. He did not compromise on his music and philosophy despite the brutality suffered at the hands of the Nigerian government. He lost his mother a political activist to the brutal regime of the “Zombies” Nigerian army. Abami Eda RIP
@Fela Kuti Dear Kuti family, I am writing on July 1, 2023. This masterpiece of rhythm is in its golden year!!! Sounds FANTASTIC AT 50!!!! Be blessed!!!
I am a rebel. This man is my total hero. A very powerful message using the arts. don fok os aroun mon...we watching u. Remain an Africa man! For gods sake. Thank God for Fela!! My papa/brother/hero.
in a virtual world where the truth will still be stifled, subdued and propagandised, this music is more relevant and at the same time more accessible than ever. Share the music, share the truth and share the love. Those who are not zombie will sing and share with us. FELA IS STILL WITH US. ALL of US. In his music, his message and his SPIRT, He never left :)) Today I type a message to someone Ive never met but have found something in common with. He gave us something to share but its not ours to keep. Share this and the message will be heard by the ears that need to hear it. So many do these days! Peace Fam!
Genius. I get cold anytime I listen to this musical arrangement; from the saxophone to the keyboards to the drums, he managed to produce one of the most beautiful and unique sounds out of Africa. On Par with Beethoven music.
I LOOOVE Fela sooo much!!! Smh I listen to his music religiously EVERYday. I wish I had the chance to meet him. Now I found this UA-cam channel just today! What a treat! I'm on a cloud. Thank you so much for this FELA channel.
Africa power !! El ritmo y la danza la poesia viva de nuestra esencia como seres esta en las mujeres y hombres de esta tierra castigada por la injusticia!
As a man in his early fifties from a working class family I cannot say that I had Fell Kuti heard many times, but years, and I mean decades, later I can hear Blue Note as well as west Africa rhythms & instrumentation. Just trying to say this is soul music no matter where you came from.
Amazing! I love this music. we can feels the 70', but its very timeless too. The first time I did listen this music, my cats got just completelly creazy! Very stimulating to them too. I will learn trumpet because its just completelly satisfying to listening it , but plus my cats love it! for now I just do trumpet vocalizations for to beat my soul with these sounds! but, I think a person that stay close a trumpet inicial learner, just supouse to be creazy! haha! 😅
After Hearing #YellowFever 1 Time #IWasConvinced then my soul got the moving from every song heard after. #Legendary Is All I Can Say. #✊🏾LongLiveFelaKuti✊🏾
The saxophone play is so legendary even Jcole sampled it to make his apology song to Nas. I just realized it while listening to the intro,Fela made generational music
No Problem groovyrooby1. I'm glad you enjoyed Gentleman with the backstory. :) BTW, we just uploaded right now Fela's song "You Gimme Shit I Give You Shit" ua-cam.com/video/bLkkCylAjG4/v-deo.html Have a listen and read if you fancy? Take Care and thank you again. (Y)
I grew up with Fela's"Gentleman" . I just listened to it on this Android phone, something is missing! Where is that "thumbing Base" in Gentleman that shakes up the whole room to the extent that one starts dancing immediately without knowing it??!

why was it a bad habit? i'm curious.
@@amihogatai8432 As far as I know he didn't like to play live songs that were previously recorded.
