With 0.5% Cubersecurity Fee being charged by Nigerian government, Even today, this week, this month, May 07, 2024, this legendary song about inflation and govt harsh policies is very relevant to contemporary happenings in Nigeria. Rest on Fela
Wallahi if don't rise up against these people, our stories will like those of parents, lamenting and remembering when things were good in the 70s.
I don't understand how a 32 minutes song feels so short. Incredible.
Yeah! Beasts of No Nation is another one.
Tell me about it.
Keeping Alabama away from microphone time, was a 70 year stsrt
Yo it’s an awesome song🔥🔥🔥
It keeps changing at intervals. It’s so dynamic. It’s like 10 track ep of 3 mins songs.😂
Having watched Baba precisely 40 years ago and few more times before his passing, this is probably my favourite song. Words cannot describe this song, its a story of many parts, a journey, testimony and treasure. This is why i tell people, never compare Fela with any artiste, spiritually and professionally he was on a different plane . Imagine arranging the different beats and sounds of instruments to produce that varied quality of jazz, even traditional " kon kon kon ji kon kon agogo sound and drums to mention a few.
The different beats and sounds produced manually can be programned to produce and work on countless songs and albums.
The Chief Priest
The Legend and Genius " Eleniyan"
Sun re o..
This is Also one of my favorite song, Everything about the lyrics is what is happening today
One hot night in 1988 .. the open air Amphitheater in Ife University… watching the prodigy perform this song and the introduction of the big conga drum!!!!
Eleniyan forever!!!!!!!
🎷✊🏾
I cant believe he could have so much courage to make these songs even after all the retaliation he suffered.
That's one of the things that sets him apart from anyone today. That and his insanely great art that he created. I don't understand how anyone listens to anything in at least the last 20 years and calls it art or calls those who make that shit artists. This is why I love older music.
That's one of the reasons he was such a great man. He suffered because he refused to stay quiet facing repression most of us could hardly imagine. Fela Kuti was not only an extraordinary musician, he was also an extraordinary man
@@josemaria8177I agree 👍

Baba ❤
Our Nigerian story after 58 years of independence. Written and sang by the only real priest and oracle 30years ago. We are doomed
Congas with shekere followed by the agogo then before you notice join in the big congas then subtly joins in the drum kit. They all stop at once to allow in the melodious guitars and thereafter joins in the entire percussion team punctuated by Fela's Keyboard solo...…. I mean, they don't make music like this anymore. Like Femi, this is my favorite Fela song
The base line of this song is outta this world...Fela was a rounded musician indeed we miss him dearly!!
A lot of my favorite artists had to make room in my musical heart for this man and his bands. It's amazing how their music about overcoming struggles uplifts me. When I listen to them the term "intense resistance music festival" comes to mind. I transport myself to a pleasurable and endless festival of how fucked we've been as a people, but how we face oppression and life obstacles with grace. Philosophically and spiritually, it's just like the blues. It's a huge mixture of feelings that provides a lot of strength.

A masterpiece for 31 minutes .Fela lived and died for his sound .
Probably the best piece of music ever made by anyone, in everyway!
This song is about the crazy inflation occassioned by poor economic policies and huge theft of public resources by the military government of Nigeria at the time.
He talks about a guy with a plan to buy a fan. The dude saved and saved, but before he gets to the market "Government show don enter" and scattered his plans. Because of the enjoyment can never come his way.
Given the recent economic woes in nigeria and the crazy inflation happening in Nigeria even now in 2022, this song stays relevant.
Rest in Power wise one Fela kuti
What about 2024 😢😢😢😢 I came here to reverence Fela... May God bless his soul
Nigeria's problems are now shared by many other nations. The mechanism may be different, but our resources are being looted by those who already have far more than they need.
A Black American that like this song, Loveee Felaaa Kuti shout out to my Obo Friend
You AFRIKAN!!!!!
My favourite of all Abami Eda songs. A song that comprises of many of his songs in brief- I PUT MY MOUTH FOR SONG.
THIS SONG IS SO HYNOTIC ONCE YOU START YOU WILL HAVE TO FINISH IT , DAMN
My Best Fela piece ever! His lyrical commentary which is politically scathing of Nigerian governments is eerily prophetical. You will not hear a more authentic Nigerian musical arrangement than this...a salute to analogue technology in capturing sound, voices & nuance. This was Fela at his prime.
I enter the mystical trance state everytime I play this masterpiece
Fela is awesome and very courageous, after all they made him go through
One of my best songs from Fela Kuti. He captured the Nigeria economic scenario in it's true form till date.
yes o, if them wan to knock your head , naa from back

Fela no doubt one the best musicians that ever lived! His brand of music was so captivating and the rhythm was always very bunchy ..you just can't but fall in love with his beat!
Rest In peace Baba '70✊
@@ckngivdtb37910 “nack from back” means “hit from back”
A literary representation of how government (in Africa) hits you with sudden policies, changes that take you unawares and scatter your plans
This song explains a lot of Nigeria. This is the very first Fela song I ever heard or listened to. My hair stood on end for hours. I was just blown away, I never felt the same about the country.
Its amazing how people all over the world love this without understanding necessarily what is being said, thats genius level impact. And he found a way to tap into the soul. its a trance and u cant get enough of it.
My mother used to make me listen to this song when i was a kid, very strong energy that never left me.
Ton nom est gravé dans notre mémoire jusqu'à jamais bravo à toi mon fan fela kuti

Love his story. Loved his music.
I will share it with everyone I know.
May his name live long
God bless Fela. God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬

Soldier go, soldier come

Them shout, "Second republic!"
People wey no know dey happy
People wey know them dey look
Them baptize the civilian government
Them name am federal government

[Chorus]
Soldier go, soldier come!

Na so our lives for Africa dey roll
Since them say we get independence
The civilian government wey them dey

When our lives roll small
He go go knock head for wall
When our lives roll small
He go go knock head for tree
When our lives roll small
He go go knock head for stone
When I see say our lives dey roll
Like one yeye ball

Right turn, about turn, quick march
Quick march, left turn, right turn

My friend wan come buy fan
Him dey sweat for him dey sleep for room
Him dey fall level of tree
The fan na seventy-five naira
My friend him dey follow salary
Him dey try to save and save and save
Every time he nearly buy the fan
Government go add ten naira more
Every time he nearly buy the fan
Government go start one activity
Till the fan reach two hundred naira
My friend nearly die, he never die
My friend he no wan die
Die-die no dey for him dictionary
For where? Huh...
Him dey try to save and save again
Him save for one year and six months
Inside cupboard
Under pillow
Under, under cooking pot
Inside socks

Him dey on his way to buy the fan
When alarm come blow
[Fela vocalizes a police siren]

Everything come tear to pieces
Everything come expensive

Plus, the idea of having two bassists in the recording is something I have never fathomed.... I mean, this was the time mothers gave birth to real musicians

One of my favourite songs
amazing composition
The greatest African ever
His songs will reign forever ✊✊✊
Over 30years now, nothing has changed 😭
This man was a true prophet, many years after this song, soldiers are still going and soldiers are still coming. Moreover, we’ve been seeing more democrats in khaki ruling in Africa! Fela rest in perfect peace!
Un seul titre me satisfait par rapport aux multitudes de compositions de ses pseudos "d'artistes de ces dernières années "". FELA le maître de l'afro beat.
The words of Fela are so relevant to the African territory yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Musical genius
Fêla was a man if you think it was easy for him try it and see
Still Jammin to this in 2023 and beyond 🕺🏿🔥🙌🏿
This song takes a while to get started (just settling into that delicious, infecfious groove) but once it gets going, you get the piano solo leading up to the head, played once through, straight into the second time, straight into the solo, straight into the vocal bit and once there, there are some moments of just having a bit of a breather, enjoying the groove but that while (mostly) instrumental is just on to the next bit, done, on to the next bit, done, on to the next bit etc.
I LOVE that about this song.
A lot of his other songs have more moments, also early on, with relaxed feel.
But here there's a real sense of urgency.
Also, I found a vinyl copy in Rotterdam way back in '89 (or '90, before the cd release). I still have it.
I would love a copy
Every of his words are still happening today
luv dis jam

To settle wahalla na to start another wahalla again.Deep
Can you Imagine :)
I appreciate your commentaries, as usually shown in the montages previous. But I find what is written here interpretatively on this track very erroneous. Largely the man speaks about government policies overtaking individual plans to survive economic hardships
C'est un régal

Super Fly.
Fela Kuti's masterclass.
yeah yeah free, yeah yeah happy.
Good stuff...

the sound on this is something. im a person who sorts fela songs by length. longest first!
Fela was born in the wrong country no doubt. A country that never recognises greatness when it sees one.
but that's what's greatness is all about. not recognized but the generations to come will recognize his works. love from Kenya
The densest response in all the responses on this thread
As I listened to this song, I was laughing alone, and people will thanking maybe I had smoked 🚬 Africa Weed, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW THE ISSUES HE SANG ABOUT ARE STILL SO DAMN RELEVANT TODAY AND POSSIBLY EVEN MORE SO,ITS ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASING AND DISGRACEFULL WHAT INEPT AND CORRUPT AFRICAN LEADERS ARE DOING WITH OUR CONTINENT,WE NEED CHANGE!!!! WE CANNOT CARRY ON LIKE THIS,AFRICA CANNOT CONTINUE TO BE BEHIND AND BE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE REST OF TEH WORLD DUE TO OUR INCOMPETENT SHORTSIGHTED THEIVING LEADERS
The problems described in this song are now the world's problems. In the United States, we aren't saving to buy a fan. We are saving to afford shelter and food, but it just gets more and more expensive.
suffer don dabaru our head........ true talk
I swear, everybody just dey think how to eat😢😢😢😢
