If you're a big guy, don't even think about it. Been there done that, same harness and everything. It hurts within minutes. I ended up buying an actual rock climbing harness and throwing this clunky piece of garbage away, then bought the materials needed and fabricated my own saddle mimicking the leading manufacturers. The rock climbing harness is just a fail safe, I wear it under the saddle and have it attached to my tether with a carabiner. I've hunted 100+ hours out of my homemade saddle with all my weight on the saddle with none on the climbing harness and it's still comfortable and going strong. Total cost was somewhere around $75 for everything.
I've been using a sit drag conversion and it's nice. Way better than a rock climbing harness, but you absolutely have to sew on belt loops and leg loops for safety
Amen dude, I sewed up a two panel with camo 2 in web, added leg straps like a climbing saddle, love it. Your Amazon saddle is probably very comfortable and capable of very safe arborist style rope climbing, you can do a lot more with that saddle than the expensive basic hunting saddles, good move. What I did was copy the eberhart signature, with some modifications, did some machine sewing, but mostly hand sewing with large needle and thick waxed thread that is super strong
Just bought one, before i seen your video. Great minds think alike. Tree trimming, rock climbing belt works great for $36. The sticks $130. Tether linemens rope x2 $54.
I use a rock climbing saddle and SRS rope climbing to go up and down the tree. Hand ascender with foot loop and friction knots for going up. Figure 8 and friction knot for coming down. still using my hang on stand. but it is much easier to hang with a saddle and 2 hands.
You refer to the self tightening knot a few times as the "crucix". It is actually a "Prusik" and only works if tied correctly. Might want to add a link to the correct way to make a prusik. Falling baackwards from a tree is a bad deal.
Thanks for sharing this video. I was about to buy that cheap XOP saddle because that's about all I can afford. I'm definitely going to go this route instead!!! Maybe I'll be able to save enough to get some decent climbing sticks instead of the cheap steel ones. Lol
@@Jack-jb3uh I have a review of it on my channel, I think it is a good saddle especially for the money, but I'm also frugal, and always looking for less expensive options.
@Zane Tracks , thank you. It was a pretty scary experience and I'm kicking myself in the butt now. But it's only pain and wasted time if you don't learn something from it.
No not unless you had lineman or logging spurs on your boots to climb up I would highly recommend steps! But I did hunt out of the saddle setup in a cedar thicket and used the branches as steps
Great video. Just wondering if you have used a traditional saddle before? If so, how would you compare leg comfort? How does the bridge compare as well. Just getting into saddle hunting and I am a bit seasoned so long sits would be an issue if I am looking at pressure points on the legs.
I have not so I can’t give you that comparison at the moment. But I can tell you that this setup is comfortable and you really can’t even tell the leg supports are there.
I have a half body linesman’s harness already, however, have only used it to climb and rappel from my sit stand. So limited sitting time in harness under load. Will rig up a way to simulate a saddle sit in my basement so I see how it feels. Thanks for the reply.
Awesome video. I wish I'd seen it before I bought my saddle. I was going to go this route initially (because I ain't rich) but I was worried that I would be wasting money. I even bought a old used sewing machine ($10.00) to try to make panels. But I ended up spending $200.00 on an H2 saddle. Love it but I could have save a buck-fifty.
Haven’t sat all day yet! But have done a half day and this setup was pretty comfy! But you don’t have to specifically use this harness if you don’t want. There many different options you can find on Amazon that seem to fit you the best thanks for the question buddy!
Great points about this ridiculous cost of a saddle just because it's labeled as a hunting accessory. Price will drop when the fad fades and more people are seeing alternatives. Difficult to see what you were doing with the bridge, but please don't ever disconnect your carabiner when you're hanging on the line. Get another carabineer. Also please don't drag with the rope you hang from. Practical cost is one thing, but don't be THAT cheap when your life is hanging on the line, literally. If you can't be properly safe, spend a few more dollars or don't do it that way.
I understand the cheap, but you should be able to get into a decent saddle for $150-$175. The XOP renegade is $130 and doubles as your tree stand harness. I think it's a great product for guys like you. The other thing is that you bought a $70 saddle set up and then tagged on $300 in platform an sticks in the last minute. If you really want a cheap light set-up do this. Cranford Saddle Scaffold $60 Throwball kit $20 Climbing Rope and hitch cord $100 Rock climbing harness (life support) $60 Fleece saddle build (comfort) $30 That $270 or less if you can snag some stuff used. You can hunt any tree you can get a rope in, shoot 360 degrees around the tree with less weight, fiddle factor and more comfort and at about 8lbs total weight.

Make a video showing how to make it please
I agree with this man. Thicc boys need something better. I just bought a dryad drey 2. I need back support and comfort.

I did the same thing with diy bosun seat.
@@drake9169 I did.

Man I can’t thank you enough!!!! I’m buying this “saddle” now. I can’t stand the prices of the ass pouches it’s absolutely ridiculous.
Going to try this setup with my summit climber platform.
Just bought one, before i seen your video. Great minds think alike. Tree trimming, rock climbing belt works great for $36. The sticks $130. Tether linemens rope x2 $54.
I have this same set up. $60. It is fantastic and comfortable!
Mine has a rope bridge about 18" long and works great! Lineman loops are metal and a tad back...my only complaint.
What’s it called?
I use a rock climbing saddle and SRS rope climbing to go up and down the tree. Hand ascender with foot loop and friction knots for going up. Figure 8 and friction knot for coming down. still using my hang on stand. but it is much easier to hang with a saddle and 2 hands.

"I'm not paying $350 for an ass strap". Well said you got yourself a like sir lol
Cool beans,
Been wanting to try the saddle stuff. You just made it affordable for me.
Gonna do a lot more hunting out of it this year
Thank you for being down to earth
🫡
You just made my day. I've been wanting to try saddle hunting but I haven't wanted to pay so much for a name brand one. Thanks!
Hell yeah buddy
Great idea on deer hauling, didn’t think of that way to hook on the deer, awesome

Great video man. I'll probably be building this setup for upcoming season. I subscribed hope to see more content.
Thanks for subscribing buddy and awesome!!!
Great video 😊
Thank you.
Have the same setup. Just make sure you get knee pads if you sit all day it's worth the comfort good video. You saved people a ton of money
Got the thermaseat
Great video!! I appreciate the walkthrough and explanation as I am just getting into saddle hunting too and wanted to save some money!!
New fav UA-camr
Thank you preciate the support!
I just bought an XOP Renegade saddle for $129, it was the cheapest I could find. Wish I had seen this first. New sub here, great video!!
thanks for subscribing buddy always trying to find and will try to find the best options for you guys!
I was about to buy the Xop renegade today.. now I’m not so sure lol

I like the way you thank
Wow glad I found this video, thumbs up
Great video and advice!! Much appreciated!
Nice, but good idea on the 3rd method, put your rope into the caribiner before taking out the front loop. 😉 Stay connected.
Agreed! As I just broke my foot taking a 15' fall not paying enough attention from tether to climbing line. Should always be tied in
@@matts8330 sorry to hear that. Wish you quick healing.

What did you use for a bridge ? Just the lineman’s rope? Thanks for the video very helpful.
Yes sir
Me agrada la idea.
Qué clase de plataforma usa ??
Seguridad ante todo. Un abrazo
Great video. I want to get this set up, could you add an amazon afiliate link for everything in the description?
If you add a cheap diy fleece saddle to this then you would really be comfy
if there are no branches in the way can you just use the thether to climb up? great information!
No not unless you had lineman or logging spurs on your boots to climb up I would highly recommend steps! But I did hunt out of the saddle setup in a cedar thicket and used the branches as steps
just use climbing spurs (those spikes loggers and linemen attach to there feet)
Decent.....only recommendation that I would give would be banjo music in the background.

What really gets me is the 800$ treestands now
Good job on making the video good work but I say the saddle looks a little uncomfortable.
All good except you fully detached from the tree going to bridge, not safe at height.
The prices for this shit have gotten so out of control. Thanks joe rogan.
