I had some "cheapo" photo paper in my stash and discovered stamping on the BACK of it (non-glossy side) I got a very crisp image! Thanks for the inspiration!
It also hold alcohol markers very well if you color on the backside :)
Sasha, a long time ago, I saw a video where a woman showed how to make her own blending solution using the following recipe: 3 ounces 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and add 9 drops of vegetable glycerine (commonly found in pharmacy/drug stores). The blending solution which has glycerin really helps with the blending. I used some on my own channel but can’t remember which video! 🤷🏼♀️ I hope this recipe helps some of your subscribers. ♥️
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe with everyone. I did a screen shot and off I go!!
Oh, that pink 'n' blue background reminded me of something you might see in a science-fiction movie...it looked like sky with a planet or moon in the distance. Actually, several of your backgrounds had that feel to them, for me at least.
And I'm guessing that your re-inkers took so well to the front side of your photo paper because most printer ink is dye-based. At any rate, something new for me to try, too. Thanks, Sasha!
yes that's totally how i felt when i was doing it, they felt a bit moody ha ha. Im so playing again very soon! loved the effects
You can also layer the colours....when they dry, you can dip them again (on the front side, at least), with Distress Oxide or dye inks. Loads of fun!!
Sasha, you are a genius! This is definitely going to be my new obsession. I love the glossy effect of the photo paper!
honestly it is bonkers fun! the colour just gets sucked in!
Such clever ideas! Great video!
What gorgeous results you got! I love every one of them! Your cards are beautiful.
Hi Karen
Photo paper, shave cream and swirled alcohol inks make interesting and glossy marble backgrounds too. I bought up loads of photo paper a few years back and l don’t know if l will use it all. Sharing it with a few of my crafty friends so we can try your ideas too. I love using layering stencils on the glossy photo paper too.
Brilliant! Im sure you guys will have a hoot, it's so easy and satisfying
Pigment-based inks will never dry on glossy paper, even when you spray hairspray over it. The hairspray will disintegrate and the card recipient will get smeared with wet ink. Most metallics are pigment-based because they need to sit on top to reflect the light. Never “seal” things that are wet. Rubbing it off to reveal just the dye was a better idea. The main advantage of expensive alcohol inks is they stick to metal, ceramic, glass, acetate etc., so no need to waste them on paper. Here’s another fun idea: you can use your regular dye-based (not pigment or alcohol-based) inks and markers AFTER you have printed actual photos on that photo paper. Looks especially cool on B&W photos. And one more thing: good old-fashioned watercolors work the same way as your re-inkers, if you want a softer, more subtle look.
Sasha,, this blew me away, totally amazing, just what I needed, bright and so cheerful, have tons of alcohol inks that are unused. Sasha, I am so glad you made this tutorial. Many blessings to you and your family. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
I have lots of photo paper I was going to give away but after seeing your video I’m going to be very busy lol x
Sasha, love the backgrounds they are beautiful. Can you clarify which side of the photo paper you used please? The dull or shiny side?
I was curious as well. Perhaps dull side for alcohol and shiny for everything else? I’m not sure either and would love some clarification. I’m itching to try these techniques! 😁
Sorry, I should have been more clear in the video! I got so excited and carried away. With alcohols i used the back, but when i did all the other kinds i used the shinny front side
@@SashaReade - thanks for the reply! I think I have photo paper somewhere in my stash. I see a crafty Sunday afternoon in my very near future! 😊
@Sasha Reade thank you for the reply. This is one I will definitely be trying ❤
First time watching, I believe. I work at an art museum, and we also offer art classes to the public. I may get hate comments from this, but as an educator myself, it's my responsibility to mention this. Your enthusiasm is contagious and wonderful, but please remember to include in writing and verbally the incredible danger of using alcohol inks without the proper safety equipment and ventilation. I won't explain further because you strike me as an intelligent crafter/artist who knows how to google. Just check out something like dangers of alcohol inks, etc. We had one class at the museum with ventilation, but I found out...not nearly enough. We no longer do them, but if we did, we would move outside and use respirators. One of my dearest friends and world class master artist is no longer with us because he generally dismissed safety precautions. Can't tell you how I miss him, and his wife is really struggling. All this stuff aside, I love the experimental process, your energy, tone, whimsy, and direct approach. P.S. your video isn't too long.
I’ve always had a hard time sleeping I’m 76 I started using alcohol inks and I started sleeping I thought it was because I was so relaxed with this form of art… It wasn’t my kids came over and on the back of the solution that you spread the inks with it had Ether in it so that’s why I was sleeping so the next time I used a lot of ventilation but I did enjoy the sleep
lol that’s so funny but not really. Hopefully you are sleeping better now without the ether. ❤
I'm sorry. I know what it is, to lose the special ones. 🤍
Very true and important, I also wonder about heating(fumes) and airborne embossing powders which are fine plastics.
M so very sorry about your friend 😢 💔 😞
Also, do not try to heat emboss on the front of the photo paper-it cracks the paper-not sure what happens if you ink the back of the paper.
ha ha i did that! Meant to mention, DO NOT HEAT EMBOSS! Totally forgot, that was a dissaster!
Sasha, your cards all turned out so beautifully! I really love the ones with the scraps made into little banners, so cute! I have done these techniques, but not for several months so I think it's time I made some more! Thanks for always inspiring!
The blue and pink piece at 14:33 has a moon, and I think, if I had created an effect like that, I would have used it as a sky, with maybe a silhouette of hills or trees, and then kept it. I love that combination of colours, while not being a fan of blue.
Today's mission, having now acquired photo paper and alcohol inks, is to have a play, and I will try to save this video for reference. Thank you.
suuuuuuperrrr technics on fotopaper...I was been told, that you can not use fotopaper for stamping and ink workings, but now... wauwww.. I'm going to try it too..thank you so much for teh video. crafty greetings from Holland
Honestly it was so much fun and so rewarding! You'll love it
This is fabulous! It’s also wonderful to have someone in the UK so I can buy the products! Frustrating when everyone else (that I follow) is USA based….now I just need to pop to Robert Dyas! Thanks again!
ha ha you're the second person to tell me that! Im glad you've found me, i like a bargain as well so im always keen to share those! I ordered my board online then collected it in store. Might be worth checking they have them in before you venture out. It was £5, this is the one i got: www.robertdyas.co.uk/clear-glass-worktop-saver
@@SashaReade thank you. Much appreciated that you take the time to read and reply x
Beautiful cards Sasha, what a terrific idea. The possibilities are endless. Tfs
Hi Maria
Very cool video! Makes me wanna go play 🤩 you probably know this, but if you use a workable fixative instead of hairspray, you can continue to work on top without any issues. For instance, you can stamp on top of it and it won't smudge!
I use eye glass cleaner, rather than straight alcohol, that I pick up at Dollar Store.
💕 Loved your cards!
I have a ton of photo paper and was so surprised when you did the backs of the papers.
I saved your video so I can rewatch it when I’m ready to experiment. Right now working on reorganization and categorization of all my thousands (not exaggerating) of stamps and dies so the room and desk are upside down. But I can’t wait to give it a try! TYFS 🤗
Hello Linda
Such a fun playing session! Thank you for all the tips and tricks and even going as far as showing what cards you made with them. My favorite are the distress read inkers. They are so cool.
Hi is the re-inkers water-based. I get a terrible headache when I use alcohol ink
I think I like how the Distress Oxides turned out the best, but all look terrific! Hmmm...I have an unopened packet of photo paper in a drawer here.... ;)
Hello Patti
Someones been having fun, all really addictive once you start. I've only been using the alcohol inks a few months and watching lots of you tube and have used about 3/4 of a pack of 100 sheets of 4 x 6. Try putting a drop down on the paper and adding a little bit of alcohol just on the edge of it instead of the middle, then blow it out with the blower, you get some great whispy designs doing that, like flowers when you go right around the edge with the drops of alcohol and blowing out the way. I must try smooshing with water based inks on the shiny side, it looks great :) x
oooo more exciting things to experiment with! Thank you! Honestly having so much fun, i bought another 200 sheets so im good to go for a little while..... i hope....
That sounds great but I get a terrible headache every time I tried using the alcohol inks. It also makes me sick to my stomach
I have found this out a few weeks ago
Love this technique Sasha. Totally spent a day watching a few of your videos, very informative and motivating. Thank you.
I have tons of photo paper! Yay! I must ask, are you partially American? I lived in the Midlands and as Americans, my daughter’s accent changed -because of immersion in school, friends, etc. Just curious! Keep showing FUN and simple projects!
Gotta try this. I buy photo paper in packs of 100 for scrapbooking so I have plenty to practice with.
It's so so fun!
Hi Sasha, you definitely looked like you were having fun and your cards turned out absolutely gorgeous. I’ve got a heap of photo paper I can use, so I’m looking forward to trying this shortly!
I picked some photo paper up at a garage sale and honestly had no idea why...LOL now I know what I can play with, thank you so much for sharing these gorgeous cards and for inspiring me yet again!
Ha ha yep, now you just need to remember where you stored it!
Hi Sasha... Oops I mean Hi Genius! These are AMAZING! I ❤️❤️❤️❤️ these backgrounds that you created. They are all pretty but I love the distress oxide ones when they are rubbed off. Love those torn dies as well. I would have had a field day spending time with you doing these. Almost like one wouldn't want to stop. TFS. PS: I definitely never mind a long video from you. 🤗💜
ha ha Noreen you are just the best! Crack me up, Genius, ha ha i love it!!! And yes the oxides, oh my! they are crafty sexy! Im so making more of them! Thank you for the encouraging words and heartfelt love. :)
GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the video glad I found you now subscriber:)
The Tim Holtz gold and silver metallics (all of the metallics) you NEED to use the Alcohol Ink Blending Solution. That seals it in where the rubbing alcohol does not. Watch Tim's videos and you will learn everything you ever wanted to know about them
Fantastic ..just great I'm learning a lot from your video...........thank you for sharing............pat
I 5ried the alcohol inks 5 times a day hated it. I was ready to toss everything, untill..... I tried the yupo and a small air compresser. OH MY GOSH YOUVE GOT TO TRY IT. I WAS HOOKED
Very beautiful projects. Love these.tyfs. be blessed.stay safe.brand new subbie.
Really good. Now, did you mean photo printer paper? Fit just a second there I thought you meant photo developing paper, but that would just turn black in daylight without fixative. Hmmm....i wonder if that's an idea, lol!!
Will very cheap hairspray work? Any particular type? Extra hold? LOVE THESE!!!
Wow, such gorgeous results! I tried photo paper but only the shiny side so thought it didn't work. NOW I will be using the OTHER side! Thank you so much!
I got my photo paper in today. Looking forward to trying these experiments out myself. These are all so pretty. Thank you for the video.
Love this video sooooo much! I thought I was going to have to buy al ohol inks and you just confirmed I do NOT need them. Crack'en good! Thank you!!
Aloha from Maui I have pursued watercolor, and have a great deal of photo paper cards that I haven't played with, I inherited them at a yard sale and will explore later this week. Mahalo for the inspiration ..I subscribed! I appreciate your free spirit. Imua!
Great video!! Love your smiley face comment; that had me laughing out loud! Thank you. How’s your mother? She’s in my prayers, as are you.
Make a background with the distressoxide and wipe it with a babywipes. It changes from dull to sparkling colors.
Simply Gorgeous, Gorgeous cards Sasha! 😃 I just Love your talent! (Lets see if This comments stays , this time) lol. The last several videos you had up, YT stated being silly, again! 😬 grrrrr. Have a Blessed Day, Sweet Friend
Hello Donna
Myriam (with a Y) of Myriam's Nature is the alcohol ink-photo paper expert and has already explained this on photo paper in numerous videos. Just sayin...
I used photo paper (shiny side) when I first had alcohol inks - let them dry……then to my horror (after having already sent out at least 2 finished cards), I quite accidentally discovered that the dried ink wiped off 😱. I tried sealing with hairspray which left a rough finish; I tried rubbing it off but my results were just a faded shadow of what had been there, not the beautiful results you got. I never used it again and opted to buy Yupo.
Wow - what great ideas - definitely going to have fun creating some great cards
Tiffany Socorro probably butchered her last name has some great UA-cam videos on alcohol inks. She uses all kinds of inks she likes altenew ink refills she may tell you on her channel. I haven't seen this done with dye inks!
Loved your enthusiasm and fabulous backgrounds!
Hi Wendy
OMG these are just beautiful. I love them all, but the red & yellow one. Oh my. Just stunning. You looked like you were having so much fun. Thanks for all of the tips & techniques.
Honestly, soooo much fun!
I really like your card idea with your heart, but I think you ruined it by placing the words over the most interesting part of the heart!! I was hoping you wouldn't stick it there. I think the prints are so nice just by themselves and it would be better to put a sentiment on the inside so you don't ruin the print. I really like all your alcohol ink prints though. Interesting idea. Oh yes! I really love your cards with the strips! They look fantastic! 😊
I’ve done this using distress oxides but over a stamped and embossed silhouette image ( landscapes , ocean scenes , sunsets, space themes etc ) and it’s amazing how quickly you get a wonderful card front . Also added die cut silhouettes and absolutely loved it 😍 it’s such a fun way to create and use up dyes , inks etc you have sitting in a drawer almost never used …
When I think of all the photo paper I gave away because it was a pain buying photo quality refills for my printer when you could get a photo printed for under 20cents..I wish I had kept it 😐
I can’t stand hearing the swallowing in the voiceovers. I just can’t focus on anything else. Sorry
Just seeing this, if you want a bit more color when you use stamp pads, try stamping on small acrylic blocks then into the misted glass mat. You can get more colors without contaminating the stamp pads.
🌼 really love watching your process
playing is so much fun and remember, no accidents, we have Happy Accidents
Thank you so so much. If i get negative feedback it's always that they hate seeing the process- which i always find helpful when i watch videos, because i know what to avoid trying when i have a play. Thank you for your lovely comment
Try spraying the hairspray from farther away and let it fall onto the picture so it doesn’t disturb the picture
Wow loved this video-and I’m going to love playing with my photo paper… does it have to be premium photo paper..
Love love love this video! Just gorgeous 😍 ❤ ty from Michigan, USA
I bought a brand new pack of 150 sheets of photo paper at a thrift store for $2. Guess my next project!
Since you acknowledge that you are new at alcohol inks you need to do your research about their potential dangers to your health!! Take precautions!
Holy moley! I've not had any luck with alcohol inks, no matter which side of the paper I used. I do have quite a few Oxide re-inkers, so I'll definitely be trying this. Yours are so gorgeous! Happy crafting!
IM sure you'll have success with this, it was so fun and easy
You can pick up the inks left over with paper or cardstock. Tip from ArtyMaze.
Well I loved these but my distress oxides all rubbed off and the hairspray left marks everywhere. Love the alcohol inks on photo paper they stayed soooo shiny loved them
I have loads of photo paper in different weights. It is all at least 10 years old. I also have some with a magnetic backside that was given to me. Now I know what to use it for.
Fantastic! thx for sharing...gonna attempt this technique w/photo paper...
Hi Sasha, I love these! They’re all beautiful but did you find the shiny side best or the ‘back’ side best? I got a little confused. Your excitement is contagious! 😂🥰
I used the back side for the alcohols, then i used the front for everything else:) Sorry i should have made that point a bit more
@@SashaReade thank you for making that clear. I'm not surprised, you were so excited. Lol
Did you try to use shaving cream and put your drops of ink in it the cream swirl it slightly and just touch your paper photos 9Now the shiny side in it and you can dip your photo paper one by one as long as you have colour in it. It is fun too
Stunning cards....great job!
I love hearing someone else get as excited as me when crafting/painting. 😁💞👏🦋
Hello how are you doing my friend
How do I save your bideo or subscribe? I got your video as an unsolicited recommendation via my phone.
I bet you could put the ink in a mini mister and spray through a stencil or metal die...;) Wear a mask though so as to not inhale micro misty ink!
Wow!!! I am so glad I found your channel...Your work is impeccable!!! Very Nice!!!🥰
Great idea. I actually got a couple packs of photo paper at dollar tree. Not sure if they still sell it. Haven't looked for it in a few months. I originally got them to use in place of glossy stock. I use the back for watercolor.
Absolutely gorgeous 🎉 thank you for sharing
Thanks Sasha, I loved all of them and can't wait to give it a try.
What a fabulous, informative video! TFS❣️
Am in the uk - where did you buy the rubbing alcohol please? Txs
Those are amazing backgrounds! I love them all!
Loved this! But, where can I purchase the “wood look” table top that you worked on? Lol
Amazing!! You really should try to be a little more excited! LOL! TYFS, Love the video!
Hello Pam
AWESOME!!!😱😍and it looks Super fun👍😁
Just an FYI for you. If you use the METALLIC Tim Holtz alcohol inks, etc. you HAVE to use the blending solution with it to prevent rub off. Don’t need a lot, just need the 2 to bind! 😊. And you need to use a LOT less! Lol
I absolutely loved this video! Am gonna play tomorrow!
Thanks you!
Oh boy I have tons of photo paper in my stash. I’m going to try this soon! Thanks this was fun to watch.
Stunning cards! When I eventually get more inks, etc I’ll have to try this method! 😊🇨🇦❤️
When you say Use the backside, do you mean glossy or flat side?
When you were rubbing off the top of that one card with a rag to reveal what was underneath was it just a damp cloth or dry cloth for
My first time seeing your video. I am a card maker at heart. I liked and subscribed.
I love to learn new ideas for card making.
Hi Carol
Did you spray alcohol with the regular ink refills and distress inks?
How is this different than using Yubo paper? Thank you.
Try tim holtz disress glaze with this technique its amazing and you can get so many layers
Wow these backgrounds are gorgeous - so bright and beautiful. Love your finished cards 🦘🦘
Thank you so much :)
Just wondering if when using the Oxide pads ,when one colour has been done and dried what would happen if you did it again with another colour . Just wondering if it would layer up ? I will give it a go tomorrow. Thanks again Sasha. X
oooooo so many more things to try!!!! Amazing thoughts, i have got to try that! Thank you for the suggestion!
Does anyone know if the dye u use for soap making would work? I have loads and don't make soap anymore. Thanks everyone.
How do you protect your work from UV fading?
Love these! You've inspired me to get out my inks!
How long do you have to let the distress oxides dry? Thank you kindly 💞
Absolutely terrific, l am now off to get photo paper.🤪
Thank you. I do have photo paper and alcohol ink and want to get busy!
pretty cool video... i am thinking about if there is a way to do this on a computer without using any real life products
