Great video. 2 things though. First - you say get rid of sleep crutches but then advocate for white noise machines. Why don’t u consider a white noise machine to be a sleep crutch? Shouldn’t the child just get used to the ambient sound in your household? Second - my 7 yo son who was perfectly sleep traine when he was young, has picked up many l bad sleep habits over 2 years. And now I’m trying to get him out of those. Should I be looking at cold turkey style approach or to kind of ease him out? I was thinking the latter where I would gradually reduce how long I stay with him and then stop. Also I’ve been thinking of redoing his bedroom with some cool lighting to make it more enticing for him to stay by himself. I’d of course keep the lights in a dim setting through the night. Would love to hear your thoughts on this approach?
A real sleep crutch is something not sustainable that kids need to sleep - like a parent in the room. I don't consider a nightlight or sound machine a real crutch. But you certainly don't have to use one! Typically kids don't stop sleeping in their room because they don't like their room enough. Its' just a habit that he is sleeping other places so either approach that you mentioned could work. It's all about being consistent so he gets used to a new way of sleeping.
This is pretty vague and generic information. Get rid of sleep crutches and encourage them to fall asleep on their own…Okay so how do I that? What do I instead? Like I know the answer is that you’re trying to get me to purchase your thing. But this isn’t leaving me convinced that it’s gonna work or you have anything new to bring offer
thanks for your feedback! I've got lots of free YT videos with tips and ideas as well as a free Toddler Sleep Masterclass if that would be helpful to you.
