This is the problem with having stronger gpus, many (not all) devs abuse the power by saddling their games with so much graphical enhancements it knocks the FPS back down to 30fps. Really wish platforms would make 60fps compulsory. Graphics be damned.
That will always be the case. For the creators-the artists, programmers, designers-art comes first. They're always striving for better graphics, higher fidelity, and enhanced effects. Frame rate will always be secondary.
@@henshin587 as it should. I want better visuals and 30 fps. I would rather have most of the power of the GPU allocated to visuals and art than worry about frame rates. As long as it is does not play under 30 fps, all is good.
@@marcel1463not everyone wants to deal with PCs. I work on one all day- I don’t always want to be back on Windows at the end of my work day (I have a 7900xt PC).
@@arabpride9939 I agree as well. A stable 30 FPS is fine, but for people who play League of Legends for hours daily at 60 FPS or higher, 30 FPS can feel choppy.
10:39 "I'll just be really honest. A lot of players out there just won't notice some of these finer details and I don't think those people should be a PS5 Pro especially at $700 and with no disk drive or stand."
Here in NZ it costs $1360 and there is nowhere you can buy the disk drive. I'll stick with my original PS5 and Sony can shove this and any future consoles where the sun don't shine. I'm done with them.
@@MrRoundthetwistI also have just the PS4 Pro still. Can't decide if I should buy the PS5 Pro or the Slim with disc drive.... I am leaning towards the 30th anniversary Slim version now. I honestly don't think I will notice the difference between pro and Slim. Either one is an upgrade from PS4 anyways
I genuinely think that the upgrade to an OLED TV is more worth than the Pro. I understand them keeping the CPU the same so as not to leave the original console in the dirt, but I'd really prefer to wait until the next console generation which hopefully has a beefier CPU able to push higher framerates, particularly in open world games like GTA 6 will be.
Thank you for this review. As someone who is still using a PS4, I was contemplating getting the PS5 Pro. The simple fact that you mentioned most gamers won't notice the difference and I play MAYBE 2-3 times a month. I'll stick with getting the PS5 slim for myself.
They say this is an enthusiast console, but I think it’s for PS4 players. You get the best experience when switching over if you want it. PS5 players since launch get…granular improvements on the games we’ve already played. Yay.
@@marcel1463 Yeah people don’t realize that if a 4090 can barely run 4K 60 in modern games there is no way in hell the PS5 Pro can. This console is still weak af
It's definitely nothing like the PS4/PS4 Pro where you literally needed to be blind not to be able to tell the difference. That was a massive leap, it brought 4K to the PS4. And to boot the price differential was much smaller. With this hand on heart the vast majority of people, I'd say nearly everybody, is not going to notice the difference when playing and for those that do it's on things that don't matter, like more realistic reflections on side of track detail in F1 24 which you're only likely to be bothering to look at when sat on the grid waiting for the race to start, not when racing.
Hey bud, you only spoke about upgrading from PS5 to PS5 Pro. If someone doesn't own a PS5 and wants to buy one, is it worth buying the Pro instead of the regular PS5?
Great question! It really depends on your budget. Its objectively the best, most powerful version of the PS5, so if you have $700 to spare, then it likely makes sense to go for it. But you have to factor in whether or not you'll want a disc drive or stand, because that will push the final cost closer to $800. I'd still recommend the regular PS5 for most people unless you're really sensitive to things like dropped frames or reduced textures in Performance Mode. It's the sort of thing where if you never see the PS5 Pro in action, you will have no idea what you're missing out on and be perfectly happy with the base model. So if you have the money, yeah go Pro. If it's too pricey but you want a PS5, base model is still the best value.
0:48 “yes” if you’re a pro gamer, pixel peeper or just have money to blow so why not, “No” if you like kicking back relaxing on couch to play games like most people with consoles
Great review, my thoughts exactly. In the Netherlands it costs €799 (while with the conversion rate is $699=€648). The discdrive costs €120 and the stand €30. So it'll cost me €950 to replace my base PS5 for these marginal improvements. It's crazy!
In Estonia PS5 Pro costs €850. Being a PC gamer, bought the regular PS5 just for Stellar Blade, selling the console soon and never looking at consoles again.
If u hv a base ps5 but no oled/qd-oled display, get that first, The upgrade in visual and responds time is awesome. And if u are like me have a ps5 since launch and a QD oled display, get the pro
I have a QD oled of 65 but I still no see the beneficts here. The diff in power in high CPU demanding games is 2% and in the best scenario 10%... it's better a gamer PC at this point.
@ClaudioAguileraMunoz Im playing FF7 rebirth, and performance mode doesn't look great, so looking forward to the pro. From the demos online can already see a huge difference in image quality. Its a steep price to pay, but i can off set it by selling my base ps5 and i get to enjoy all collected games all these years via ps plus. With pc i hv to start again from scratch
PS4 pro was the best console to play PS4 games Ps5 is the the best console to play PS4 games Ps5 pro is the best console to play PS4 game. I see what you did sony 🤡
🤣 💯so true but since I skipped ps4 generation I got the ps5 to do just that so I’ve gotten my money worth buying up the best ps4 games at 10-20% of original cost while having the console that ps4 should have been to play games at their best
All of these modern consoles are impressive machines from a technical perspective but it's very disappointing that the base consoles have not received a permanent discount 4 years into the generation. It's also disappointing that Sony thought it was a good idea to release a 700+ dollar console without a disc drive. Despite these glaring issues the price to performance ratio of these consoles is still great. I like that the console exists as it will make PS5 games a lot better when the PS6 releases but that's mainly it.
The Ps5 pro's only real performance advantage is it ,s GPU has 16 teraflops from 10 from the Base Ps5. Same Ram ,same CPU same ssd speed . Games at 4k with Ray Tracing and will still be at 30fps .
@Crashed131963 CPU can be around 10% faster than the base PS5 if devs choose to opt for the CPU high frequency mode, it isn't a lot but it's something. "Same ram" isn't really accurate, the ram is faster by 28%. The SSD doesn't need to be faster, it's still extremely fast and it's only just starting to be outperformed by a noticeable margin in the PC space. Also most games have modes that target 60fps and it's very rare for them to have CPU bottlenecks (although it is getting more common as time passes). The main selling point though is PSSR which will pretty much get rid of all the main image quality issues that surround FSR/TAAU in supported games.
@@TruTrae The two shockers when the Ps5 Pro was released yesterday with the real spec sheet was . The cpu is a 3.5 ghz like the base Ps5, people heard it was going to be a 3.5ghz with a 3.8ghz boost. The Gpu is 16 teraflops not 32 like people thought . I just wonder how many non-sony game developers will support PSSR. Most new games are on PC,S-X and Ps5 now. Like the new Dragon Age . PS exclusive games are not pouring out lately .
@@Crashed131963 Considering that Checkerboard rendering was adopted by most AAA third party games on PS4 Pro and that FSR2 has been extremely prevalent in this generation I don't see a reason why most third party devs wouldn't support it unless the game's image quality is already great.
@@TruTrae The $700 Ps5 Pro really is only $150 more than the $450 base Ps5 to me. Most people add a extra 1tb ssd stick to the base Ps5 to get 2tb storage . That's a $100 upgrade . The Ps5 is already at 2Tb. I would buy the pro if I did not have a Ps5 already. I just find ever game I play looks and Plays good in Performance mode. I will just stick with it until the Ps6 gets here . I skipped the Ps4 Pro also .
If you have to zoom in and take your time to see a difference it’s definitely not worth the upgrade I miss the days when you could see an obvious difference in graphics and performance but now it’s like tiny differences
The tiny differences matter when you have money. The truth is, people who think $700 is alot of money, don’t have the necessary tech to even enjoy what this system will bring to the table. A high end OLED gaming monitor is $1400 on the cheap end. That’s honestly the minimum requirement equipment to even consider buying the pro. People that are talking about not seeing a difference, are viewing it on tech incapable of showcasing the differences.
@@ShinzoX90 I have a big 4k high end lg oled tv and don't care for this slight visual improvements, where are the games? We just get remasters from games that aren't even that old
Mine is coming in the mail tomorrow, can't wait. I get it that the average person can't afford or doesn't want to pay for a $700 upgrade to an existing console, but I do. $700 is cheap for a console with this level of power. A comparable PC is about twice the price. I am a PC gamer first and foremost, but have all the consoles as well, so this PS5 Pro will fit in well with my setup.
narcissism is so big in people these days. its insane how people feel offended just because something is not for them and how they are missing any empathy and start "hating" instead so they feel better... I mean they dont even try to understand different perspectives. if it's not for me. ITS MUST BE FOR NO ONE!
Sony peasant here with my A80L, no QD-OLED for me. Still getting the PRO at the end of this month. Hoping to get a Disc Drive as my PS5 physical collection mandates it really. My PS5 Phat will be going to my GFs house so I can stop lugging the thing on weekends.
@@zootopiashow I have a 55inch and can definitely tell the difference when playing Fidelity and Performance modes. For me it more about getting the very best experience from PS5 games and Digital Foundry sealed the deal with their 2 hour vid. I was buying the PRO regardless, now I can't wait till the end of the month (big backdated pay day so treating myself). I play Performance modes 99% btw, so to get Fidelity level sharpness with Performance mode FPS is what I'm going for
I think it’s still at the beginning of its life as the Pro, and as time goes on while games get harder to run the consoles will show bigger divides. We’re just now getting Unreal Engine 5 games, so as games get more advanced you’ll notice more of a difference. 🤷♂️ Just know if you have the pro, you’ll get the best experience possible when on PlayStation.
@javierf6162 No. I cannot play 120hz games. There is Call of Duty that can do it yes. But I'm not interested in that one. There are other FPS shooters like battlefield and they can only do 60. And I have a very huge big TV. I don't want to have to chose between 4k 30 or 1200p 60. Both don't looked good in different ways. The PS5 pro is what the PS5 should have been from the start. Guess I'll build me a gaming PC soon.
I have a 4070 Ti Super which does 4K at 70-85 fps (without DLSS or FG). That GPU alone costs more than PS5 pro itself. So yes, that's too much to ask for at this price.
I'm curious to know how the PS5 Pro runs in general. How do the system menus run? Are boot up and loading times better? Is Wi-Fi 7 really faster on the PS5 Pro? I have a 500 Million Edition PS4 Pro and sometimes the system menu lags. I'd be nice to know how the general experience, other than graphics, is for those who have a PS5 Pro.
I’m selling my OG ps5 for 350$ and GameStop offers around 350$ credit also if you’re a pro member. Yeah it sucks having to buy a disc drive but I’m ok with that
Hell yea, brother! Ima sell my ps5 on eBay with extra ssd, games, 2 controllers, extra plates, inside the original box! Hope to get at least 400 for everything!
@IvanRubin yea, I wish they had at least added the disk drive.. but fuk it, man. I just want to have the best console at the moment... 350 isn't bad at all for the ps5.. I'd rather have cash tho..

@@Crashed131963 actually have 18Gb of ram, Ram is faster, CPU has 10% boost, Hardware AI machine learning and more CU cores for more Ray Tracing. It's okay if you don't see the point in the PS5 Pro but let's not be disingenuous 😂
Curious... he said there's a "Fidelity Pro" mode, but did not mention the framerate. Would it still run at 30fps with much upgraded graphics/visuals? Would the regular "Fidelity" modes (that don't support the pro mode) have a boost at that too? Or is the PS5 pro mainly for running a performance mode (60fps) that has visuals/graphics like the PS5/PS5 Slim's "Fidelity Mode?"
The fidelity pro mode is a new 30fps mode for some games with cranked up graphics settings, usually involving ray tracing. The old fidelity modes will still run at 30 fps, and yes, the main benefit of the pro is to run better looking performance modes.
Hey sorry should have mentioned this, but generally Fidelity Pro runs in 30 frames per second. However, games like Rift Apart let you toggle ray tracing options on and off to try and squeeze more frames out. Cheers!
You can't take the ps5 in your pocket nor do taxes, yes where im from you can do your yearly taxes in your phone and it takes 5minutes after you doublechecked the numbers.
Is the Performance Mode (non pro) still available in games such as Ratchet and Clank or is it replaced by The new Performance Pro Mode? I currently get around 90FPS in ratchet and Clank with VRR and would like to see this go up to 120fps instead of going down to 60 with Performance Pro
I sold my PS5 and paid about 3 hundred ish out of pocket for this. I DO see the difference. I have an LG 56 OLED 120HZ VRR enabled 2.1 HDMI TV which I sit not even 6 feet away from on my chair. I notice EVERY difference. I am more than happy with it.
So you paid $800.00 for it like everyone else, you pad $499.00 for the PS5 right? plus $300.00 more and if you buy the drive and stand your close to $1,00.00, so don't attempt to pacify yourself, like you only paid $300.00.
@@studivan its only 1,000 dollars, chill out. I paid 380 out of my pocket that day because I got 450 for my old PS5. I got my PS5 at launch. Ive spent 1k on fucking dinner and that experience lasted me a few hours, this will last me years.
Noob question; what if you play Non-pro PS5 games that offer an 'unlocked' framerate mode, will the PS5 Pro hit higher framerates than the PS5? And PSSR, could the console utilize that on non-optimized games, or only on Pro-optimized games?
Man…I respect tech reviews like this that go through the pros and cons. I’ve seen too many reviews on this console that were just one-sided with the pros.
As a person without any PS5 console I feel like I would end up upgrading the SSD on a regular digital edition anyway. So what is the difference in price to upgrade a slim with a 2TB drive?
I think its worth it. I think the main value add is the using the PSSR AI upscaling (like DLSS and FSR) so that you can play higher framerates (60 FPS+) at better apparent resolution, graphic settings and RT. Also, any PS4 or PS5 games that have unlocked frames will run smoother even without a patch, and it can smooth out PS4 titles better but very marginally as far as I can tell. You also get a 2 TB SSD which is a really good upgrade. It closes the gap on Console visuals and what high end PC's are capable of.
So I don’t own a PS5 at all yet , I’m deciding between the slim and the pro and I’m a bit confused, it seemed that he said that you can get higher frame rates on the Pro, to me that sounds good? 60 vs 30 fps is a massive difference? But then why it is not worth it in the end, what am I missing here? I don’t care about sharper buildings way in the background but smoother gameplay is a big drawcard
I will probably pick it up in a year or so when they start bundles it with the disk drive etc. And give developers a year to make, adjust the games to the hardware
Thanks for the review! @08:30 Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster doesn't use any Raytracing. Maybe hold back on stuff like this? That's just false information. Also, you keep saying Pro mode when referring to Ps5. That's a bit confusing. The pro modes only exist on Ps5 Pro! Cheers.
Yeah. I personally stopped watching at this point. Really makes it look like they don't know what they talking about. Just read this information somewhere else and just reading it forwr.
Hey thanks for pointing this out! Figured this out myself this morning juuuust too late. We cut that part from the video. The TLDR of it is that we got some documentation explaining how different first-party games had been upgraded and misinterpreted the info about Performance Pro in Horizon. It DOES have lighting tweaks, but not using ray-tracing. Different tech. Cut that part for clarity. And apologies if I misspoke and said "Pro" for a PS5 mode. Likely meant Performance. It was a very long week of testing and my brain was fried by the time I sat down to write the script!
In my opinion, people who are so technically focused and care deeply about graphics probably have a more powerful gaming PC-maybe even a 4090. They can already play most of the PS5 library with better visuals.
I have PC with 6900XT which is like 23TFlops vs 16.7TFlops of PS5 Pro - doesn't mean I won't be getting PS5 Pro shipped any day soon. Actually it proves your point to some degree.... :D
Yes like me! I got 4 new PC devices within the last year. From a portable handheld one to a custom rig. I've had my OG PS5 since launch and pre-ordered the PS5 Pro cause I want the best gaming experience when I'm playing. This is about playing Sony games from day 1 prior to them hitting PC a year later or so. Also console exclusives too. I'm mostly a PC gamer first now tho.
@@volcalstonesame bro, ppl that try to compare to pc and ps5 pro know nothing. Pc is it way more powerful but ps5 is way more convenient and just enjoy console gaming. Enjoy the ps5 pro 👍
After checking mine out last night I’d say it’s really for those that were waiting to play Demons Souls at 60 FPS or those other games that had their 30 FPS modes, they feel much better now
Great and fair review. I have it preordered but I know it's not transformative bar a hand full of games like F1 24 and FF7 rebirth.. Also.. If you have a large oled you'll benefit somewhat more as most other screens will blur out the detail anyway unless, like you mentioned, you stand under a tree and slowly pan the camera.... Which nobody does.
Thank you for you honest and balanced review. I for myself think 799,- euro and 129,- euro for the diskdrive is way too much. But I do have a great gaming setup with a 65" Oled and surround sound in my bedroom and I have more than enough desposible income so I'm buying it as I just want the best possible expierence.
I pre ordered it when it was available. Got it yesterday and have a few optimized games. I play on a 65" OLED that I've had for a few years now. It may be a little outdated. So some games seem to look a little better but I'm kinda having a hard time telling. With my setup, I already had a pretty good picture. Star wars outlaws seemed to have the obvious black lines across edges of rocks that was really annoying and the image from far away was blurry as hell. I don't remember it being like that. I have my regular PS5 still hooked up so I'll have to go between the 2 to see if there's an issue there or not. I pretty much bought the pro for the PSVR. I wanted that better picture in VR. I've only tried resident evil so far but it didn't seem to make any difference at all. I don't know if i have to turn something on. I turned on the enchantments i found in the display menu. I don't see PSSR anywhere but the village is supposed to be enhanced anyways. Obviously Metro just came out so that had most of my attention last night. Assassin's Creed mirage looked basically the same to me. Again outlaws looked worse. I have to download GOW and the last of us again to check those. With the larger storage i might buy the new COD and see if i notice a difference in a game i never played before. I was refusing to buy it because of the size of the last one. The one game that i really did notice a much sharper image on was Ghost of Tsushima. The fog and the shadows at night look awesome! I did notice a much better picture on that game. I'm late to the party on this game so i just started playing it recently when it came up for free on PS Plus. That's my experience with the pro so far from a person that doesn't know that much about any of the technical shit and what to look for to see the faults that were corrected. Hope it helps!
Had the XBO X and PS4 Pro and didn’t notice much difference. When I am gaming I don’t look to the details. My 77” OLED brought me way more improvement for gaming (and watching sports).
Hey everyone, thanks for watching! Quick correction here: in the original cut we posted this morning, I talked about Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered's lighting changes in Fidelity Pro mode and chalked them up to ray-tracing, but that was a misinterpretation of some documentation we had. The lighting IS improved on PS5 Pro, as you can see, but it's tied to improved volumetric sampling which boosts godrays, volumetric light, etc. Still an example of how can devs can use the PS5 Pro's power to improve lighting, but not ray-tracing. Apologies for the confusion! Long week of testing a lot of games and got mixed up there.
What i can say, is that you really notice the difference if you sit close to the TV. You should only get the Pro if you're TV matches. That's 120hz 4k OLED
While i feel like more should be added considering the price tag, im still excited for mine to come tomorrow. I wasnt expecting a brand new generation of console. Just like the ps4 pro was to the ps4.
I tried dragons dogma 2 it’s really hard to know what’s enhanced and what’s not. Most games just give you basic and performance still nothing says pro performance. So kinda confusing.
What’s the point of buying a console without a disc drive for 700$ ? With an external disc drive it will be 900$ , damn ! I’ve already sold my cfi 1216A console but i definetly will buy the same one again ..
3 factors to consider, 1. if you can sell your old ps5 for a great deal and get the pro for say $400 then i say, yes 2. If you don't own a ps5 at all, then definitely yes, especially GTA V coming next year 3. Regardless of those two factors, knowing that ps5 exclusives are also coming out fast on PC too, should you even be thinking about getting a ps5/pro..? Spiderman 2 came out last year, and now will come out on PC soon.. so goes?
My biggest thing is frame rates. I always have to play in performance mode instead of fidelity mode. I think if the PS5 Pro can give me the higher fidelity with higher FPS, it might be worth it. Honestly, the lack of the disc drive is my only gripe and why I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet. It seems stupid to omit it. Half of my library is on disc...
Upgrading from ps4 pro. Told myself couple years ago I'll wait til the rumored pro comes out. Playing with friends on PS5 & they instantly load in while I'm stuck on loading screen and have to catch up sucks.
The best review I've seen on the PS5 Pro. I'll be honest, I don't understand why anybody would buy this. What "serious gamer" is buying a console anyway? Not throwing shade at console owners (I have a PS5). Anybody that's interested in a PS5 that hasn't bought one yet should in my opinion just stick with the slim.
This is like purchasing a new television. They line them up side by side so you can see the difference. The moment you take the television home and plug it in without all the upgraded version around- you cannot see all the drawbacks from that particular model nearly as much. I’m rocking a ps4pro, hoping to jump into the current gen with another pro. I got the money, I’m ready, but I can’t justify it. I’m not even a framerate junky. I always play 30 fps
I really appreciate your honesty because some of these tech heads got a ps5 pro for free, but they can only say the good things about it just to get everybody else to buy them and most of them don’t even play games maybe once a year
Honestly, even though the price was a bit high, i am loving the PS5 Pro!!! Everytime i used to play on my base PS5, i used to switch to Fidelity mode in some games just to see the quality and details of graphics for a brief period to WOW the works of game developers but always had to switch back to performance mode. But now with PS5 pro, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Every frame is beautifully crafted, clean and smooth with even small details are so clear. I would highly recommend if you have a 4k tv already, go for the Pro, you wont regret! Yes, its expensive, but worth the money invested until PS6 comes, (maybe 3 or 4 years) instead of regretting to play games in its maximum potential. Just my humble opinion 😌
The price is due to inflation. It’s not supposed to be a big graphics improvement but instead it’s supposed to give you those nice graphics with the higher frame rate. Remember graphics are affected depending on your hdmi cord as well. I have the ps5 pro and I never really payed much attention or appreciated graphics till I got it. Ofcourse the Standard PS5 is great and the upgrade might not seem worth it but after having it since launch, I don’t regret my decision. Keep in mind you can sell your PS5 for atleast $300 and put that towards the Pro, making it $400+
I'm the guy who was immediately sold. My old roommate had a PS5, but I moved out so now I don't have access to one. I could get a used PS5 for under $400, but at this point I'd rather just wait a little bit longer and save up for the Pro. Do I need it? No. Do I REALLY want it? Absolutely.
I was debating getting a PS5 Pro but decided to just upgrade my Tv from the LG C1 to the Sony A95L and could not be happier, it’s almost like playing on a new console. All the comparisons vids I’ve seen reassure me I made the right decision. Watching from 8ft away on a 65” Oled as good as this means any differences in resolution that could come from the PS5 Pro would be barely noticeable.
@@davidburchfield4003 my C1 had burn in on it but yea the C1 was around 750 nits whereas the A95L is closer to 1500 so it makes a difference. I’ve been revisiting past games that I always found a little underwhelming when it have to HDR and they’re like new games now. AC Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Cyberpunk2077. They look amazing. Worth the price tag in my opinion.
For people who have a standard ps5 theupgrade is nonsense but for people who played on ps4 pro until now. The ps5 pro is the only reasonable option. It s the perfect christmas gift ❤
You should immediately see the difference in image quality in games like Stellar Blade and FF7 Rebirth, but if you don't then you should probably be upgrading your TV/Monitor.
7:30 time stamp... Sony's Demon's Souls Remake for PS5 was a year 2020 launch title before any NATIVE programmed implementation of Ray Tracing existed on the then freshly launched PS5. Ray Tracing, 4K, HDR-10, 4K Checkerboarding, 120Hz VRR mode and 60Hz or 60fps are NOT flip switches that a game programmer team can just flip whenever they feel like for any game, these new graphics features have to be programmed into the game code and 3d engine so if a 3d engine never featured HDR-10 and you force that via brute force, all you get is a close approximation that a casual person might tolerate depending on the game but will never equal a true native implementation of true HDR-10 and that applies to comparisons with Dolby Vision Gaming because the majority of games that are native HDR-10, are native HDR-10 which is why most of those games will tend to look better than most of the few Dolby Vision Gaming games that only have that feature in their game code but the 3d engine tools never had it the year before and it shows big time over the years on games were the HDR-10 was hardcoded into the game engine like that PS4 Days Gone that uses Unreal Engine but the Sony developer team went into overdrive during the five years of development where the HDR in that old game looks and still looks amazing. Ray Tracing is relatively new, even if some games had a type of "Ray Tracing" feature in the earlier years of PS5 and the main issue is that certain games and their development teams would need to go the many extra miles just to match Capcom's Dragon's Dogma II which so far is the ONLY game to fully feature a native Ray Tracing global illumination system which looks amazing on stock PS5 and Xbox Series X... note the Series S is a joke platform... why claim to be next generation when you have less features than the Xbox One X had but it's no surprise Ray Tracing G.I. is missing from the Series S. On PC it's different and as a former PC guy even I know that it took several graphic card generations to make CryTek's Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead actually playable at their Very High/Enthusiast setting at 30fps, imagine the wait it took for an average 60fps at 1080p lmao That said stating that PS5 Demon's Souls does not take advantage of the PS5 Pro is misinformation as Sony green light a patch to enable the 4K HDR Quality mode to go from 30fps to 60fps... therefore even without any native Ray Tracing the fact remains that PS5 Demon's Souls is truly almost a completely NEW experience at 4K 60fps on PS5 Pro. Saying that Final Fantasy Rebirth and Capcom's Dragon's Dogma II "were not that well built to begin with" is also wrong and misinformation and makes one wonder just what are you talking about.... while Final Fantasy Rebirth has different image quality design concerns of it's own, it is nowhere near the scope of what Dragon's Dogma II is doing with native Ray Traced Global Illumination built in from the factory... the "problem" is that Digital Foundry has some PC platform elitist fans as reviewers who really were let down by the port to the PC where they mistakenly acted like the PC platform is so superior because of all the money $4,000 can give you earlier this year or last year that as usual the PC elitist get's blind sided by the inherent flaws in that platform... Look, Xbox Series X and PS5 are two platforms where Dragon's Dogma II worked from cold booting at 4K HDR 30fps and RTGI... the PC platform has always been a quagmire and will always be that especially when stuff like SLI and Crossfire were features that PC game devs chose NOT to support because they were not being paid enough by the so called PC platform elitist fans who allegedly purchases PC games on the PC at full retail price which just exposes all those fake Crysis fans from years ago or when CryTek made patches only to see twice to triple the number of copies sold numbers being downloaded...
Stellar blade has had such a huge upgrade... it feels like a whole new game with the pro option enabled... not the problem Max one the pro one before it.... huge huge update :D just wish FromSoft unlocked the frame rate on Bloodborne :(
10:37 The PS5 Pro does come with a stand, it just doesn't come with the vertical stand. As for bashing the price keep in mind that Xbox released a digital only 2tb series x for $600 with no upgrades other than the SSD storage and there is no way to add an optical drive add-on later on if you want it.
I think your thinking about the series s all digital console and it was only 1TB you could expand it and it never sold for $600.00, you can buy it now for $249.00
The review i wanted to watch. The guys that say the technical points. I stopped buying games on my xbox series x waiting to see if its worth. Really want to see how resident evil, hofwarts legacy and alaln wake 2 plays on 5 pro.
I just bought a ps5 pro and I can tell you some games it’s more noticeable. I think seeing what devs can do in the future with games, is what’s most exciting. As far as recommending, personally I’d ask the question, are you someone who messes around with the graphics mode options in different games? I am someone who does in every game I frequently find myself saying, “fidelity mode looks better but it’s not nearly as smooth as performance.” Therefore, I always choose performance. With the pro, there is less compromise and you get the best of both worlds. I noticed the difference immediately when I booted into Spiderman 2 and ff7 rebirth. I also tried hogwarts legacy and it seemed meh. Star Wars outlaws was better. Last of us part 2 is amazing, however I just upgraded immediately from ps4 version, so I didn’t have a baseline to compare. People are picking it apart online and I get it, it’s expensive. But you don’t need to buy it. It’s another option. I don’t think the disk drive is a big deal, given the next generation I would bank on it being digital only. I will say it’s disappointing the vertical stand isn’t included, however this is the same complaint as the ps5 slim. I personally made the investment because there was a ps5 trade in promotion and I intended to buy it regardless when GTA 6 comes out because I want to enjoy that game in the best way possible.
If your TV is cheaper than the PS5 Pro, you shouldn’t buy one
Tv upgrade is a bigger improvement.
Lol not exactly true but I get the point
That's a great way of looking at it, and true lmao
i kept my base PS5 and bought an OLED TV and the improvement is great. there's my PS5 Pro.
This. Exactly.
Buy a PC and you get more than 60 fps.
@@henshin587 as it should. I want better visuals and 30 fps. I would rather have most of the power of the GPU allocated to visuals and art than worry about frame rates. As long as it is does not play under 30 fps, all is good.

So the PS5 Pro is what Sony said the PS5 was going to be. In short, wait for the PS6 for an actual upgrade.
That's my plan
Thank you for this review. As someone who is still using a PS4, I was contemplating getting the PS5 Pro. The simple fact that you mentioned most gamers won't notice the difference and I play MAYBE 2-3 times a month. I'll stick with getting the PS5 slim for myself.
This "visual upgrades" are just ridiculous at this point, the shadows are less shadowy for 700 usd...
They say this is an enthusiast console, but I think it’s for PS4 players. You get the best experience when switching over if you want it. PS5 players since launch get…granular improvements on the games we’ve already played. Yay.
Get the PS4 Pro Plus... oops, I mean the PS5 original or the slim.
I think you’d be better off spending the extra on a higher quality tv
Higher quality tv + base PS5 > lower quality tv + PS5 Pro

Maybe if you only want digital downloaded games, not if you like physical media.
Most definitely!!!

Great review, my thoughts exactly. In the Netherlands it costs €799 (while with the conversion rate is $699=€648). The discdrive costs €120 and the stand €30. So it'll cost me €950 to replace my base PS5 for these marginal improvements. It's crazy!

@c.daubz.5386 same here. I skipped ps4 as well, so my ps5 is catching me up
Say that to monster Hunter wilds and FFVII Rebirth and part 3

Xbox is going to release their console in the next 2 years.
I have question does it feel faster in frames per second can you notice a difference. Between both settings.
Are there any games that you can only play at 60fps with pro? If not this is a hard pass
I will probably pick it up in a year or so when they start bundles it with the disk drive etc. And give developers a year to make, adjust the games to the hardware
so if i have the xbox series x, i dont think changing for the pro gonna be a big improvement?????
I’m just curious about higher frame rate.

Which game is at 3:19? Is it a Horizon game?
Yes, horizon forbidden west. The dlc I believe
How well does it play Netflix?
I'm picking up mine tomorrow morning! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Sorry to hear that good luck with your disappointment
@ericswanson9773 NOPE
Have fun bro same here 👊👊@@TheRafcave
i have the tv for it so i said why not... and trading in my ps5 brought it down to $450 something. its doing what i want and im happy
While i feel like more should be added considering the price tag, im still excited for mine to come tomorrow. I wasnt expecting a brand new generation of console. Just like the ps4 pro was to the ps4.
No mention of benefits of playing on a HDMI 2.1 vs HDMI compatible screen?
One of the most honest reviews out there - thank you!
Because 80% of gamers play mostly digital games.
@@TheMa5cmpbnot even true
Wow, well explained, you have the height of confidence bro.
3 factors to consider,
1. if you can sell your old ps5 for a great deal and get the pro for say $400 then i say, yes
2. If you don't own a ps5 at all, then definitely yes, especially GTA V coming next year
3. Regardless of those two factors, knowing that ps5 exclusives are also coming out fast on PC too, should you even be thinking about getting a ps5/pro..? Spiderman 2 came out last year, and now will come out on PC soon.. so goes?
You just sold me on the ps5 slim! Thanks! 🙌
Sansui was one of the best CRTs i ever owned since 2005 i was sad when it was time to retire.
Why no backward compatibility
I'll take your advice... im going to buy a chicken farm great video btw
Thank you, and give us some of those eggs when you grow 'em.
I need that Sansui tv review plz
I remember a scene in Tron Legacy; "This year we put a 12 on the box." Seems like that's what Sony is doing here!
Look at the tree at left corner it loads during walking at 3:32 , am definitely buying a pc
Incredible review
This review was awesome
As always, grazie Giovanni! ❤
Keep in mind you can sell your PS5 for atleast $300 and put that towards the Pro, making it $400+
Happy gaming. Picking mine up from best buy tomorrow InshaaAllaah
Smart choice
That noticeable over the C1? Mine still feels pretty strong minus anything with a dark scene.
Do you have reality crestion on manuel for gaming?
@@asole100 I have it set to auto, not sure if I notice a difference or not but I figure if it’s on auto then it will work if needed.
For people who have a standard ps5 theupgrade is nonsense but for people who played on ps4 pro until now. The ps5 pro is the only reasonable option. It s the perfect christmas gift ❤
Still remember the real Japanese Sansui HI-FI gear.
On PC it's different and as a former PC guy even I know that it took several graphic card generations to make CryTek's Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead actually playable at their Very High/Enthusiast setting at 30fps, imagine the wait it took for an average 60fps at 1080p lmao
That said stating that PS5 Demon's Souls does not take advantage of the PS5 Pro is misinformation as Sony green light a patch to enable the 4K HDR Quality mode to go from 30fps to 60fps... therefore even without any native Ray Tracing the fact remains that PS5 Demon's Souls is truly almost a completely NEW experience at 4K 60fps on PS5 Pro.
Ty trade-in gamestop.. got my ps5 pro.. satisfied with the performance
Stellar blade has had such a huge upgrade... it feels like a whole new game with the pro option enabled... not the problem Max one the pro one before it.... huge huge update :D just wish FromSoft unlocked the frame rate on Bloodborne :(
I love your honest review.
It's usually always 1st party games that look the best and take full advantage of new hardware.
Great review and video thank u!
Best review of this I've seen so far
Even more reason to wait for the PS6. Thank you.
I upgraded my 2019 samsung 55in to a tcl 65 c745 instead of buying a ps5 pro and im soooo glad I did
