- ** Correction: The ZV-E10 does have the newly implemented moveable box for white balance AND the new filing system!! So TWO less advantages for the big guy.
People have asked me to compare the Very powerful A7S III to the newly released ZV-E10 in an effort to understand what you get for five times the price. In this video, I break it down and why I actually chose to order the ZV-E10 instead.

Thanks - it just seemed to make the most sense to me for clarity sake. Luckily, people seem to agree👍👍
Great video. A great point you made is that most people/audiences won't know - or see - the difference between ZV-E10 footage and the A7Siii in many situations. I shot a feature film with the GH5, and it was very popular in the film festivals. No one asked what camera I used.
Exactly!!
а что посоветуете брать gh5 или zv-e10?

I am truly lucky I ran into your channel as you're so informative and really been helpful in the last few days for me to decide on getting the ZV-E10.
I am going through a lot of your videos now so you'll see quite a few comments from me!
Thanks Mark you rock!
Welcome aboard! 👍👍
you are the main reason why I decided to buy zve 10 as my first camera thank you
It’s a great camera - have fun!!
As someone who just picked up photography as a hobby with aspirations to take it further as it’s my new obsession, your videos are so valuable and helpful!! Not knowing very much about the art myself, you break everything down as people say “simply” lol it’s very helpful and beneficial to newcomers to the art! I actually bought a zv e10 over a few other cameras based primarily on my wants/needs after hearing your comparison videos like this and others such as the comparison against the canon m50ii and others. Even if I don’t understand a topic you discuss, you almost always have another video explaining it and I want to thank you for the amount of education, time, and HELP that you’ve given me and so many others. Oh, also your sense of humor! 🤣 many thanks and looking forward to continue learning from your videos ☺️
Awesome comment - thanks for saying that!!
Very good review! I got mine ZV-E10 a few days ago. Mainly I use the A6400 but I want a second cam for different angles, fast lens switching or combining photo and video. The ZV looks the best option to me. Looking forward to do my next job with both!
it’s such a great value. I’m using it for video right now instead on my a7iii because it’s way easier to use. 👍👍
Did it get the job done? Exactly why I am considering buying one as well!

The back screen on the A7siii and A1 is ridiculous for the price you pay. It is probably the only thing I hate about my A1 is the back screen. I want see a Red camera vs ZV-E10 next lol 😂 Great video as always Mark 👍
Haha - maybe Potato Jet will do the Red comparison, Totally, totally agree on the screen.

Great comparison video, Mark! I own the Sony ZV E10 and am debating on getting the a7SIII for product video shoots. You clearly know your sh*t! Thanks for the great video. Subscribed!

My friend is selling me a used A7sII (2) in $600, do you think it’s a better option than a new Zv-e10? Almost for the same price? Appreciate feedback 🙏 Thanks for your content

Thank you very much for making this 1😃
Its totally true. Remember when people used to use the GH4 for film making? That's 8 bit and wasnt that great in low light. Yet fantastic films were made with it. Yes there are benefits to a more expensive camera like the A7SIII, but sometimes it really isn't needed :)
Plus, if you need 10-bit, there’s always the GH5. But most people on UA-cam are shooting 8bit still today.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Exactly. I currently use a GH5s and its autofocus is terrible, but its great for film making. I have been thinking of getting an Olympus EM1 Mark ii so I have something that has good autofocus though and fits all my lenses.
@@gamedesign1 haha. I did that exact thing. Haha. Bought a used em1 mark ii. The video features are lacking, but autofocus is great. I use it when I’m outdoors
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I will change my opinion when I own a GH6 and start considering everyone who doesnt have one, a peasant. haha
@@gamedesign1 haha - me too
i see many youtubers using a7s3 in studio and they could've just gotten by with zve10. i think its less about value but more about they can afford it so why not.
For sure. The A7S3 is also a bit “dummy” proof - since it does video so well no matter what circumstances you’re in. So they want the one that’s easiest too.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis i wouldnt conclude it does video so well, ive seen some videos of it and i tend to notice in most videos, it focuses too much on overexpose parts so ends up darken the shadow parts. example if youre recording bright outdoor it could expose for the sky and darken too much the shadow parts, or if youre recording at night and theres a bright spot it would reduce the exposure of the bright spot and therefore darken everyother place and i noticed that in several videos, i prefer a camera thats able to balance the highlights and shadows. maybe those youtubers aren't good in using it.
@@truthseeker6804 haha. Maybe they aren’t good at using it - always possible. That’s the thing, when you assume the camera is perfect and will do all the work for you, you’re not going to end up with the best results. You always need to set up your settings and scene of you want things to come out well.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis well said
How can I fight the urge to get a full frame? I might get an older A7 just to try for a cheap price. I’m a hobbyist who is addicted to bokeh. I really love the color of your light
BTW thanks for you videos. I enjoy them very much.
Love these videos of yours, man! Been considering getting the ZVE10 + a Sigma 16mm 1.4 for my live streams. But I'm still considering getting the A6400 instead. Mainly because it'll be my first Sony cam, and I think it'll feel more premium and will be more flexible for shoots and live streams in the future. Would you say that's accurate? 😆
It will likely feel more solid with the metal. But I just received my ZV-E10 a couple of hours ago - I must say, I am impressed with the build. Solid - better than I thought. But it's not weather sealed. However, the catalyst browse stabilization is blowing me away. Do you stream in 720? If you do the ZV-E10 doesn't need anything - just press streaming and use the USB-C cord. I do prefer the a6400 layout though - makes it easier to change settings. But if you need a viewfinder and you plan to do more photo work - the a6400 will be the best.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Ey. Thanks for the reply, man! I stream in 1080 so I'm looking to go the camlink route. You think Doug'll be good via camlink to stay on for a 6-7 hour stream via OBS? Hahaha
@@JustinQuirino haha. I don’t know if it’ll go that long. But if you only need 1080, the cheaper capture cards work well too. Mine cost $15 and works great. The camlink here was way more expensive!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I do like the quality of the camlink 4k, though! A streamer friend of mine uses a Sony A6400 with an Elgato Camlink, and she said she went 6 hours+ with no problem. Haha. TBH, I'm considering getting a cheap 2nd hand a5100 so I have more budget for the capture card + Sigma 16 mil for now and build up to an a6400 or Doug. Lol
@@JustinQuirino Sounds like a plan!! 👍
hilarious intro "virgin river" lol llol
🤣🤣
Another great comparison ... I'm still holding off. I'm leaning toward an a6400 for a couple of reasons. Climate in my area is humid and it rains a lot. Weather sealing would be a plus. I like the flip-up screen like on my a5100s -- even though the mousetrap on the back of the a6400 isn't great engineering. I really can't figure a reason to upgrade yet. I'm holding onto my cash until I'm sure what will fit my needs. Right now, we are locked in our house so not doing much outdoor shooting. Cheers ...
Sorry about being stuck in doors. In Canada, not much is open, but we can least go out and about. Although - I do tend to say in a lot 🤣🤣
Love your vids man!
But, can you do a set up for the sony ZVE10?
Like a bipod, sd card, extra batteries, really anything that you would think would go well with the camera. I want to invest in my first camera so I want to see what other gear I might need.
yes - I’ll talk about the full setup very soon!!
But what about the photography with the ZV-E10?
Can this be compared?
I just got the ZV-E10 but I’m hesitant to return it for the a6400. I’m more curious about the color science. Is the color science better/newer on the ZV-E10 compared to the a6400? I mainly want good video but I would like to take good pictures as well. I just don’t know if the color science matters when taking a photo.
Color science is subjective, but people seem to prefer the color science on the ZV-E10. Color science matters less for photos because you can shoot raw and change the photo to your liking. Here is a good video about the two cameras ua-cam.com/video/gWNkvIGQfBU/v-deo.html
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you!
I’m currently using my iPhone 13 Pro for TikToks but in February I plan to buy the Sony ZV-E10 & the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for UA-cam because Best Buy’s sells the open box ZV-E10 body for $600 sometimes & you can get the Sigma 16mm lens for under $250 on Mercari & sometimes they be brand new & that’s better then spending $3500 on A7
Can't argue with that - great choices!!
you've convinced me to buy 5 ZV-E10s. that was the goal right? :P (also I think they just bumped the release date a week to August 30th)
Hahaha. Correct interpretation 🤣
The only thing that appeals to me about the A7sIII is the high ISO capabilities.
Great video!
Thanks!!
I shoot everything on Eos R & M50 and I am like you, I prefer value gear over the latest and greatest. I am on the look out for a used GH5, if I could snag one for around $800 that would be an amazing addition you my current camera arsenal.
Thanks!! Yes, I’ve been watching your M50 vids - great work!! You might be able to find that used GH5 a bit cheaper when they release the GH6 👍👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks Mark! Yeah I hope so, I am looking forward to the 10-bit and IBIS.
Looking forward to the Leica & Hasselblad comparisons…. 🧐
on their way 🤣🤣
I never knew that you were crazy enough to do a comparison like that. I am offended as a a7siii user :):). I have a7siii as a video camera and a6600 as a photo camera. Mostly because I do corporate and advertisement stuff. I in fact I went straight for a7siii because of the low light and the most terrible rolling shutter on a6600. ZV E 10 is also great though.
It would make a great second angle for that A7SIII- you know, if you were looking to spend more money 🤣🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis You mean if I want to break my bank if I haven't broken it already buying a7siii. :))

nice video Mark ! Where is the video to get S-cinetone on the ZV-E10 ?

whoes better sir zv e10 or a7iii for weding video shooting
I'm curious about your thoughts on the A7R III for video. I originally got the ZV-E10 for UA-cam (not much selfie video) but I have found myself taking a lot of photos (travel, landscape, wildlife, events, some high school sports) at a hobbyist level. I can upgrade from the ZV-E10 to the A7R III for about $400 USD. The thought of any IBIS and a sealed, metal housing along with higher megapixel count is attractive. Is the video captured on the A7R III at least equivalent to the ZV-E10? I know I would be losing the selfie screen, but gaining IBIS, weather sealing, better battery, dual card slots. The A7R III is quite a bit older but do you think this is a worth upgrade for a seemingy more capable photo camera? Thanks for reading the long comment. :)
I have the a7r iii and zve10 I came looking for answers also 😭😭
Can you help me guys? I would use a camera to film myself playing the guitar or to take pictures of the equipment, or film clients while playing/singing (all always in my recording studio). I would never go out of there with it. Which one do you recommend in this price range for this type of use? zv-1 or zve10 or others?
I know the zve10 has a better sensor, so maybe better image quality?
In the end I think it's the only thing I'm looking for: image quality, even in artistic lighting environments, so quite dark environments.
I don't think I'd ever buy other lenses
Is it possible to make behind the scene on how do you shoot comedy events and interviews? I just bought gh5 after your recommendation and started to analyze different comedy specials in order to "learn the angles". There is no video on UA-cam regarding this and I feel like you're the guy who can make a great video
I'll see what I can do. It is tricky, because every club is laid out differently. I try to get one front on angle and then at least one from about 45 degrees to the side. It gives more depth to the small clubs. If I have a third camera I put that 45 degrees from centre the other way. So front shot and two on the sides giving a diagonal look at the performer.
16:15 Sadly I do film at dusk, dawn, and dark haha... I do think the E10 will be much higher night time quality than a GoPro. At least I hope it is?
You’ll be happy to know it’s far, far better than gopro in lowlight. I did a video on it where it destroyed the new iPhone 13 pro and competed nicely with the A7C. Here it is ua-cam.com/video/6OsvCJ-o7Tc/v-deo.html
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks! I will check that out!

Many people are comparing this camera with a6400.
Yes - I will ask Sony to lend me an a6400 so see the differences. In image, they will be almost identical. Here is a UA-camr who did a good review of them both ua-cam.com/video/gWNkvIGQfBU/v-deo.html
Hi Mark, Which camera did you use while shooting this video?
That is my trusty GH5
12 mega pixel is MORE than enough for 24x36 posters. Ever heard of the 8 mp camera that made a billboard?
Billboards are printed differently and meant to be viewed at a distance. But yes, you can print 12 mp with good results many times. However, if you are cropping and adjusting and printing for pics that will be viewed closeup, you’re going to need more than 12 a lot of the time. Watch DP Review TV’s latest video about resolution and print size - very good explanation.
What is your best Vlog Camera?, since you love price and value :)
Well that is the Zv-E10 and ZV1F - obviously 🤣 I’m actually going to do a few vlog specific video

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis You start to lose track after a while. Looks like you're grabbing a ton of new views and subs though which is great! Keep rockin' these comparisons!
Can you do a comparison between the zv-e10 vs the a7ii
That’s interesting - I’ll look at doing that, but I’ll tell you that the ZV-E10 will be better for video
Hmm. I’m debating the ZV-E10, versus the A7s2. So, new vs used, and aspc versus full frame.
The autofocus, low light ability, and battery differences.
All this for (UA-cam) video.
I will shoot on a tripod (I’m shooting myself).
I’m using a Canon 5d3 for photography - so mostly looking at a video camera.
OR should I get a Canon full frame (again, low light video is a big requirement).
Getting a zv-e10 if you can find one with a sigma 16mm 1.4 will give you what you’re looking for - great in lowlight and amazing autofocus. The A7s2 is great in lowlight, but it’s autofocus is not great and it doesn’t have a flip screen and it’s battery life isn’t as good as the zv-e10. So out of the two Sony’, get the ZV-E10 with a fast lens. But since you use a canon, maybe take a look at he Canon RP. Great autofocus and if you get a fast lens - it will do well in low light and you stay with a system you’re familiar with and can adapt your lenses.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
Wow!!! I think you responded before I even submitted my question (very fast!)!
I was thinking - no way he answers, but I’ll post anyway (it’ll help the algorithm).
So, thank you very much. I sincerely appreciate it!
Ok, so I ruled the A7s2 is out.
I’ll look at the Canon RP, as you suggested.
If you had to pick from the Sony ZVE10 and the Canon RP, I assume you’d still go with the Sony?
If picking a lens for the RP (same criteria), which would you pick?
Thanks again for your help!
I really am enjoying your channel.
Great information, while entertaining - without being annoying/ in-your-face-obnoxious like many of the other channels. I appreciate the humor yet still professional manner.
Please keep making content. I watch even if it doesn’t apply to gear I’m considering.
@@ark8tct I appreciate the kind words!! But remember, the RP loses dual pixel autofocus in 4K so it will be unreliable unless you shoot 1080. The Canon R, however keeps dual pixel autofocus in 4K, but it has a massive crop so you have to factor that in when you buy a lens. So if you were to use a 16mm lens, in 4K, it will operate like a 29mm field of view. This is why many people on UA-cam talk about Sony for video a lot - it’s hard to find a good lowlight camera with rock solid autofocus in 4K in the more budget cameras unless you look at Sony’s APSC line. Now, if you plan to shoot 1080 only, the lower priced canons are great. If you want to stay in the price range of the ZV-E10 and shoot in 4K with great autofocus, the ZV-E10 and a6400 are the way to go. Olympus has a couple of options, but they will be less good in lowlight.
Hi Mark
great...
❤❤
What are your thoughts between the ZV-E10 and the Panasonic GH5 Or G95?
Different uses, I think. GH5 for serious work where you’ll be manually focusing and want a lot of cinema video features. ZV-E10 for autofocus and more casual use. G95 is a bit expensive for what it is. I would go with the G9 or the cheaper G85 instead. G85 is a great camera with great stability and lots of video features - I think it’s a good companion to the GH5
Just drop by and accidentally find your excellent comparison. I'm really newbie n has passion for short movie making. And really need advice of first camera. Again. Budget counts. My option will be one of 2. Either sony zv e10 w/h kit lens or panasonic lumix g85w/h 25mm f1.7. I know this lumix is pretty old camera but still looks worth buy until now. Which one you think better than other (with their plus minus though), zv e10 or lumix? I would use it more to other people, like shooting, and few to selfie. Please give me a clue ya...
