First played Sylvia's "Matador" in 1979. This, I assume, is from her biggest hit, "Nobody" in 1983. And she was, indeed, lovely.

Actually, "The Matador" is from 1981, and "Nobody" is from 1982. I was a teenager when these songs were on the charts, and I grew up listening to Sylvia's music, so I remember this very well.

Sylvia Jane Hutton (née Kirby, born December 9, 1956), known
professionally by her first name Sylvia during the 1980s, is an American
country music and country pop singer and songwriter. Her biggest hit, a
crossover chart topper, was her single "Nobody" in 1982. It reached
number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 5 on the Billboard Adult
Contemporary chart, number 9 on the Cashbox Top 100, and number 1 on the
Billboard Country Singles chart. The song earned her a gold record
certification and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Country
Vocal Performance. Her other country chart hits include "Drifter"
(number 1 in 1981), "Fallin' in Love", "Tumbleweed" and "Snapshot". She
was named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music
for 1982. She is also credited with making the first "concept" music
video clip to air on Country Music Television (CMT), with "The Matador".

(laughing) Wow, Mr. Clark is just a little taken by Sylvia. Just a little ;-) Yes indeed, she was the Shania Twain of the early 80's putting HOT into the country crossover scene. I don't know of any red blooded American that didn't have sparkles in their eyes when Sylvia came into view.

That's your opinion greetings for the great state of Texas just because somebody has long hair flat straight long hair doesn't make them attractive okay they're not there I never heard of Sylvia for the Crystal Gayle never heard of this woman never seen her before in my life and I was a teenager in the 1980s her music sting she's not that attractive she's ugly that's just as just your opinion she actually would look better with short hair just like Crystal Gayle because their hair is very straight and thin doesn't look good very long they would look much better in short hair and I've seen Crystal Gayle and short hair it looks fabulous they both stink is singers but this Sylvia's she's ugly dog face probably a druggie and a junkie marijuana drunky we read she was a drunkard as well has been old hag now

Sylvia was freaking gorgeous. She was as hot as brooke shields or any other female sex symbol of the 80s. And crystal gale was beautiful with long hair and her blue eyes. Very feminine. Women look better with long hair. Don't need them to look like Karens. But hey, that's my opinion just like yours.

Crystal Gale was hot (had a crush on her as a kid). Just discovered that Sylvia sang, "Nobody" today. She's even hotter than Crystal Gale, but I think Crystal is a little better singer. Linda Ronstadt and Carley Simon were hot top, but I think Sylvia is probably the hottest. She could have been a model.

Wouldn't YOU be amped up to be on American Bandstand, if you were an artist?? To be on that show propelled one's career forward; only "the Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson was the ULTIMATE career booster!! Also, she just said that she was constantly touring/traveling so she's nervous, keyed up and TIRED.

    • @markmurto
      @markmurto 8 місяців тому

Dick Clark was indeed a star maker. Carson was a man of our time, but Jack Parr was more famous of a star maker on The Tonight Show. The strange thing is, when Dale Carnegie wrote his famous How to Win Friends, he used the most ultra famous men of his day. People you would never forget.... except time went on and his book has to be rewritten with now famous examples as the old stars ARE forgotten. Arthur Pell who I knew well died in 2013. He didn't know Musk, Zuckerberg or Bezos of today. He wrote the last iteration of Carnegie's book for the 1990's early 2000's. But that was now 20 years ago. I suppose the long since passed Carnagie will have to rewrite his book again! It's not that people forget the great past. It's that their too busy living their own. Some one asked me, what was it like back in the day when Ronald Regan was President? I said, "really?" But he was only born in 1982, and was already 40, a middle aged guy. So I'm old now? I remember Johnson and Nixon for goodness sakes!. Yeeeesh.
