For a small segment of population that this is built for its not about the money. 70k or 100k isn’t a lot to them for a toy.
Also cars aren’t priced based on size. Wrangler 392 is way more popular than a power wagon so higher price makes sense. Way more people want the wrangler as a toy compared to power wagon and fca knows that so they price accordingly.

You are right: spending $80,000 on an “off-road” vehicle that is going to get bashed up on the trail makes no sense.
If you are buying a vehicle to impress the neighbors, fine. But in that case who cares how it performs on the trail? If you want to go fast, there are much better, safer, alternatives out there.
When it comes to off-roading, less is usually more.

Coming from a generation where V8s were the standard in off-road vehicles, I have always hated the Jeep Wrangler didn't come with option in my JKU. I wasn't going to invest in a swap and I know it is highly unlikely that Ford will ever put a V8 in the Bronco (even the Raptor), so I have turned my focus about off-road capability. Anything built right, will conquer just about anything you throw at it.
Just go take a look at LiteBrites channel and how impressive the Bronco did against a $100K built Jeep.

Disconnects swaybar in the air.......drops 2 inches tire still in the air. Making a feature out to be the second coming when it does absolutely nothing is disingenuous. The BLD system in the Jeep is far superior than the Bronco. The Bronco CANNOT function in off camber situations without lockers. For whatever reason Ford needs to make software changes to its traction control because it acts like an open diff as soon as a wheel leaves the ground. If you are wheeling you are airing down and disconnecting the sway bar before entering the trail. Wrangler still more capable than the Bronco.

I wouldn't buy a Bronco or a Wrangler, neither of them are suited for highway driving for long periods of time when they're configured for offroad use....a base model Wrangler still sucks on the highway but not quite as bad when kept in stock form, but still not high speed or wind friendly...neither is the Bronco...they put wheels on a box high speed driving isn't gonna go too well and combine it with a cross wind and you'll be fighting it all the way, you'll be worn out from just driving a few hundred miles in either.

Vehicle capability wise you guys hit the nail on the head. The interior is still up for debate. IMO the Wrangler interior just sort of works. No major interior issues. The Bronco on the other hand is a huge let down. The materials used are not as good, things wobble and move about, the roof is recall-able because it doesn't seal, just a whole mess of quality issues. For my money I'd still get a Wrangler simply due to the aftermarket support and the time on the market to get the quirks worked out. That may change in a year or two, but for now the Bronco is just too new and unsorted.

I live in a very high cost of living state, and surprisingly, I have not yet seen the off-road (top of the line) version of the Bronco on the road. I did see what I guess is the base model, and it looked very cheap. I have no doubt of the off-road chops of the top of the line model, however, I do not trust the quality of American nameplate vehicles, and damn sure not at $60, $70, and $80,000. 'Back in the day', 48 month auto loans were the norm. Now, I see advertisements for 84 month auto loans. I wonder what percentage of owners are able to afford these vehicles within 4 years or less?

Half of that trail you could have done with almost any truck or SUV. It is kind of like saying it is great at off roading while driving though my front yard. @@wildbill23c I don’t think that gas and diesel will complete die. Yes, the market is pushing towards electric but honestly I don’t think we currently have the needed infrastructure to support it. Plus the cost, resources, power density, and the range of travel with electric vehicles versus the gasoline/diesel engines is completely in favor of the combustion engine. Yes, maybe in the metropolitan areas; but not for long travel, fleet vehicles, or countries without our type of resources. I’m not saying that one day in the distant future we won’t have a fully electric world (or some other type of propulsion) but not in my lifetime.
However, the old combustion engine will keep ticking and they will keep improving it. Like I heard the other week that Mercedes (or Mazda?) is working on a new valve system that will improve horse power and efficiency by 30-40% by using electrically controlled valves similar to our current fuel injection systems. This would eliminate a timing chain/belt and overhead cam lopes. But the death of the old V8 is on its way, definitely 😞

It is the new kid on the block, I love the design of the Bronco they nailed that part but when you start really digging into it the shortcuts that just kills it for me. I know the Wrangler has its downfalls as well. One thing no one mentions about the Bronco is Ford had to remove the lower crash bars to get the Sasquatch Package to fit the 35's that to me is shows how rushed the Bronco production was, to blatantly remove a safety item to fit a set of Tires.
