Turning 70 in two days and worn my hair long, once again, for the past five years and loving the versatility, it has just begun to turn silver and I'm pleased with that look. I noticed an aging woman becomes invisible and long hair has certainly reversed that.

I had a hairstylist do my hair. She kept saying it would make me look younger. I was only early 30 thirty’s. This one day she said it again and I said no. So she did a touch up relaxer . So she step away for sometime and when she return to rinse it out. My hair was coming out. She was like I don’t know what happen. Now she was in her 50’s with long hair so why didn’t she cut her. So it was her wish to get my hair shorter. So bless that my hair came back and I found someone who could get my hair back.

This video couldn't come at a better time. Since avoiding being out in public is the safest choice during this ongoing Covid-19 crisis, lots of women find themselves with much longer hair than usual right now. I am 71 now and I have had long hair for half of my life as well short hair. I started growing my hair again about three years ago and only trim it when it is needed. I take good care by not using heat products or harsh products. My brown hair is now 30% grey but I love it...I have always believed in being my own person and not conforming to what others are doing. I am seeing more older people growing their hair longer and ditching the dye and bleach. Hooray!

two years ago I had a cut and the stylist was too clip happy - I never had such short hair! What can you do - it's already cut - it was shorter than most men. Sure it was really easy to take care of but I didn't like it at all - so now my hair is half way down my back - and I just turned 67. I have very few grey hairs and what is grey just looks like blond highlights on my light brown hair.

I'm 66, and I have always had longer hair about the middle of my back. I have totally white hair and have since I was 50. I think I skipped grey. 😅 When I stopped coloring my hair, I knew I would never have the patience to let it grow out. So, I cut it really short. I can't even tell you how many people told me I looked old. I assured them I was growing it back out but going to leave it white. I get compliments on my hair all the time. Yet, in truth, wearing my hair long was who I was. The growing out process was a nightmare. Still, I made it back to being me, and no one believes I'm 66. I have one sister who still wears her hair long. Her hairdresser told her that people who are used to wearing their hair long probably always will. People who are used to it being short will probably always keep it short. I found that interesting. I've enjoyed your video. God bless 🙏 Jan

Thank You! Finally, someone who agrees with me, that when you are 68 you don't have to have short hair. I have long hair with a nice blunt cut. My hairstylist is an advanced color specialist with Wela. When I first went to her, she recommend that I have auburn color. She mixes 4 colors to get my auburn color. It makes me look 10 years younger, and it's so much easier to blow dry. I've had short hair when I was younger, and everyone said it looked terrible. So many hairstylist think that when you are a senior, it should be short with a perm. The latest hairstyle for seniors now, is the 20's style bob. I use the Kerastase Chroma Absolu for color treated hair. I use all the Kerastase hair care products. Lucky to find such an amazing hairstylist in NYC at Shear Bliss. You don't have to look old just because. you are. I'm going to be 69 in a few months, but I don't look it.

I’m in my late 50’s, growing my hair out, letting my hair get longer and not coloring. I had been coloring myself for about 20 yrs. I usually kept it chin length, but I’ve never felt like it was me.
I have curly thick hair, I was strawberry blond when I was younger, but it turned a dirty funky red/blond in my 30’s.
I’m very happy with the color that’s growing out in, I’ve been growing it since February and I can really see it now.
I’ve fallen in love with hair bands to help with the transition. I also do a kind of French twist to get it up off my neck.
I might go and get a little trim, but I’m so glad I haven’t caved and cut it short.
Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement!

Thank you for sharing about long hair on older women. I am in my 70’s with about your length hair. My hair has some grey/ silver but is mostly my natural color when I was younger, lots of different colors, brown, auburn, gray, white, I have lots of natural colors in my hair, and it is very thick and heavy. I do have long layers too, but may have some more layers cut around my face? Currently, no bangs. Thanks for making me think!

At 59 after a short pixie cut for my working years, I decided to grow my hair, so for 8 years I went from a number 4 clipper cut at the back of my head, to tailbone. About a month ago and with lockdowns, I cut my own hair back to bra strap length. I can wear it up fortunately and rarely wear it down because of the age myth.
Because of physical issues with my shoulders, I invested in a Dyson Air Wrap. Expensive, YES! But so worth it. Simply love it and would highly recommend it for ladies who can afford it. So while having long, thick hair, I can do a straight blowout in under ten minutes. Awesome.

Late to the party, but I've had long hair for my entire adult life. I'm now in my 50s, and still have long hair. I don't agree that it's more 'time consuming'. I literally wash and condition, air dry, and just brush it every morning. Takes me seconds to get ready to go. Short hair requires more work as there is usually a style that goes with it. I'm too lazy for that.
People still shock me when they compliment my hair. Strangers. Sitting at a stop light in the summer. Windows rolled down. Person in car next to me compliments my 'beautiful hair'. They have no idea how very little effort I put into it. lol

I think long hair looks great on you. I did a search on this topic because I have no intentions of cutting mine short as I age. I was unsure if women of a certain age did it due to an overall issue with their hair after 50. As I near that marker, I’m glad to know that isn’t the case.

IT WAS MY MOTHER!!! She ALWAYS said "women of a certain age should no longer wear long hair -- it makes them look older"! From the day I turned 30 [Yes THIRTY!!] my mother was nagging me to cut my hair short. She always wore her hair short. But I never understood that reasoning! Most of the women I knew who cut their hair short when they "got older"; the shorter hair made them LOOK older!!
I am 58 years old, and have not cut off my hair! Now, I did do an 8" donation this past fall, but technically my hair is still long. Not quite as long as yours, maybe a couple inches shorter, and this is the shortest my hair has been since I was 9 years old, and my mother had my hair cut in a shoulder length bob. (I cried, and cried! I didn't want my hair cut, and I didn't like it so short!! Thank goodness hair grows!!!)
    So I say #lovinmylonghair!!

Some people online say never grow it any longer, but I want to grow it to the middle of my back. I can’t stand my hair long. With COVID 19 my hair was growing out. It is just too bushy. And my hair is thick, so it’s too hot, and I don’t look good in a pony tail. I have had my hair short for years. And I look better with it short. I had long naturally curly hair into my thirties. And it changed in texture. Off it went. And I’m happier with it. Both my daughters have long curly hair. My oldest daughter grow herself then cuts it off and donates to Locks of Love. Which I think is a wonderful thing to do. I believe that you should wear your hair however you want. And I prefer mine short.

I’m newly 50 and think the same way. Length shouldn’t matter, regardless of age. I went really short a few years ago and had an angled bob. It was cute and it suited my face, but not being able to pull my hair back gave me so much anxiety!! I had to use a ton of pins just to keep it out of my face in the summer. It also had to be fully styled every day because the haircut was a one-trick pony that could be worn in only one style. Never again!!!

People assume shorter hair is easier to handle. No way! As you said, there are so many more style options when your hair is longer. Also, longer hair with shorter layers, can be tough to deal with in the summer. I’m letting all of my layers grow out again so that I can do longer layers. I don’t care that I’m 50!

Long hair can look great at any age. The secret is to get great regular cuts (even if just ends-trims) and keep it healthy. Mine was waist-length most of my life, but I do keep it shoulder-length now that I’m 60, mostly because it’s more fragile, and all that wet-combing after shampooing for longer hair pulls out too much.

I’m 55 and have a different take on long hair which I do have but it makes me look way younger and when you’re petite, that’s not the look you are going for. I get treated like a little girl and I feel very insecure. Personally, I don’t think women should have longer hair after 50 unless she is tall and can carry it off. Petite women don’t have the height and it just makes us look younger and more girlish. I feel after a certain age women should be more age appropriate and go for the chop. This is just my opinion based on my own experiences that I have struggled with for most of my life. I am not a little girl so don’t want to look like one. I do know of course that it’s not just about hair and clothes, it’s how you carry yourself too. It’s a little hard to have confidence when you’re only 5 foot. It’s short hair for me.
