That race was full-on violent. I’m shocked no one was knocked flat onto the track until the last turn of the race.
You have to try running indoors. It’s not the same as outdoors when they pack a field up.
Appreciate that the thumbnail and title doesn’t spoil the winner. Thank you NCAA!
It does :/
That’s how you save energy and run a perfect race. Inside track events are much harder due to positioning and having to run outside lanes.
You don't know chit about running.
What do know! That was a perfect race strategy for an inside track. If you think you know better than call the kid that took 2nd and explain to him why he didn’t win!
is it because YOU DON’T CHIT ANOUT TRACK AND FILED? Or have you been a sore loser in the past as depicted by your comment.
Too many people in this race. Bad idea
@@3John-Bishop he doesn't know.
@@3John-Bishop It’s been like this for over 50 years. Even in the Olympics many falls and pushing shoving happens. It’s all about strategy as well as ability. Jim Ryan the first junior to break the 4 minute mile got entangled in the Olympics causing him to lose as well as indoor track where I personally saw him compete.
You’re a Johnny come lately and most likely never ran track or accomplished anything so don’t be rude in your ridiculous four word comments unless you have intelligence or backup to prove your comment don’t comment.
You can tell how exhausting it was to battle in the mid spots. Houser l chillin away from the warfare the whole race
Dude for Georgetown should be DQd.
Florida guy went so much farther in the 2nd lane!
He went so much farther to go to college, not American, shouldn't be eligible.
@@mixa7039dumbaf
@@mixa7039Stupid reply, almost all the top distance runners are foreigners. They deserve to get a education just like you and I.
@@mixa7039this isn't an American championship, it's NCAA don't be ignorant
Did he pay taxes? Do you?
High school winner from New Balance Nationals had a faster time than the NCAA D1 winner. Crazy how different they can be depending on the racing strategy.
Sahlman wasted too much energy running in lane three, surging and elbowing to hold position and was then gassed in the last 100m. I had him as a favourite and given he ran 1700m today I think he still is a favourite. Hope he can learn how important positioning is on short track. He will be fine in outdoors though and that’s what counts more.
He needs to learn how to commit once making a move.
Adam Spencer LAUNCHED Sahlman on the backstretch 😅
Adam Spencer is always running roughshod.
@@seatownfan was hoping he would fall after shovin Colin, some barging fare but he should be dqd , mind you the tactical races are very interesting
I'm not sure I like how tactical the mile has gotten - basically a 400 with an extended warmup.
😂
you say that like they didnt finish at almost 4 flat lol
@@FrickyouHeadBangerzzTillzIDie That's not very fast for a D1 national championship and it would have been pushing into high school territory if it wasn't for the last 400. This isn't a very extreme example, but the stick and kick threat has done some very weird things to mid distance strategy to the point where we are seeing painfully slow starts.
@@seanwoolthey prbly had multiple races on their legs
@@seanwoolyea i can agree
Poor Gary Martin 😞
What a rollerderby, crazy race
Ugh, that was a messy race. the last lap was no bueno. No one really had a good race except for the winner, maybe 2nd place, too.
Electric performance by Strand, can’t wait to see the kid chase after more ACC titles, but more importantly, another NCAA All-Academic Team.
He did good!
sahlman occupies about 2 full lanes with his out of plane movement
bro was kicking with like 600 left to go
That was insane. Crazy physical.
Everyone thought he was a strong finisher when they jogged the 800m in 2.09
Good run Bons.
Spencer finna catch a fade that was dirty.
Justice for Issac Basten
Where can you watch the prelims? What happened to him?
I know, they should've put him in today.
What happened
The stagger markers remained on the track after breaking. No one wanted to go wider than them, making it a very tight race. Salman, who was 6th finished within 1 second of the winner, Houser. That's how tight this field was.
Go Dawgs!!!!!!!
Fav part of this race is that it literally could have been anyone
proud ou u brother, olypmics next, get ready
most exciting mile ive ever seen
Very nice all athletes
BACK TO BACK
Damn i feel bad for Colin, dude probably ran like an extra 50 meters
on god
The glazing for the Indian guy just for him to get 7th is crazy
justice for isaac basten
I am surprised there is not any U of Oregon mile distance runners.
Damn, 15mph for 4 minutes
ran 4:05 and got 9th place....good lord. Competitive.
I don't really appreciate these kind of tactical races. Always interesting they all think they have the kick to take it.
free basten!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where can you watch the prelims? What happened to him?
young athletes usually start interview with "yea, i mean...."
Let's go Dubs!
Florida with that huge kick 💀💀
Washington is so dominate at the mile and 1500m who's gonna win the 1500m this outdoor season...
Washington!! Lol
Let’s go UW!!!
On Wisconsin! 😊
Why spoil the winner in the video sub-text? You avoided spoiling it in the thumbnail and title...
This was all tactics. The times were slow for a college championship final.
Isaac Basten was robbed of an NCAA title. enough said
So many runners ran an extra 50 meters for no reason. Chill out about your position until it actually matters, good grief!
I know, but they don't want to get boxed in, in case someone makes a move and they only have a split second to respond. The race was strategic, so everyone was bunched up, unfortunately. That's the way the mile is, the fastest one doesn't always win (not saying Luke Houser didn't deserve to win today, he did!)
If someone makes a move with more than 400 to go then you'll have plenty of time to cover it. You won't have anything left by the end if your opponent only ran a mile and you chose to run an extra 50 throughout the race
@@andrewpulsipher2062 that's a good point, I think some of it is nerves though. Also, I don't know if some of these guys are running with other people like this, like they are usually in races without the top talent. The NCAA championship (this race) will be their most competitive all year, most likely. They probs don't know what to do in this type of situation, they don't run with uber competition like this every race.
So many guys running such a bad race tactically
How was the Georgetown kid not DQ’d?
Because he didn't do anything, slow the video down you'll see that Gary trips over the BYU kid in front of him.
Didn’t do anything except shoving Strand after the finish
@@bighammer3464 hmmm idk, Strand going half the speed he is at the finish and colin on his right shoulder. Nowhere else for him to go while trying to finish the best he can, I'm sure it wasn't in ill intentions.

Burly
Khan ran 1800 meters.
That was ugly. The kid from Georgetown deliberately shoved 3 other runners in the last 100m, causing 2 of them to fall. One of them was after they crossed the finish line and was completely malicious. He should be disqualified.
You clearly didn’t pay attention to the race: Gary Martin clearly got tripped and not pushed. Regarding the finish line, yea, you try closing the last 400 of an NCAA final in 54 seconds and also navigating your space on a 200m banked track being sandwiched between two runners. Not like it would have changed either of their finishing places. Get your emotions out of track and field. Racing is racing.

Slow time
Tactical race or not, this is 2024 and they can’t run a sub4min mile race?
DQ the runner from Georgetown for two blatant violations and suspend him for a portion of the outdoor season. No place for that

This Gary Martin kid getting physical with everyone he is terrible in his race tactics the whole race then to see him fall it was no surprise. Got what was coming to him 😂
You must be from georgetown
Qu: Does this NCAA Championship also have 1500m Championship race? If so, then why do they have a Mile race? The Mile is an obsolete race run just as a novelty event, harking back to the old British events of pre-1965. No other Countries have Championship Mile races. Yes, I know this is just a College/University meeting but why retain obsolete races. Perhaps they don't have 1500m Championship INDOOR races because it would be stupid to race both 1500 and mile races. I mean, would they also have 880 yard plus 800 meter races? I wouldn't think so.
I noticed this in the USA High School system where they race 1600m and 3200m races. Totally meaningless races as they do not relate to any other distances and not one other Country in the World races these distances. (Reason: They are not one mile races, nor two two mile races nor match any other recognised metric distances. I assume that American High Schools can then claim World Records for those distances, since no one else runs them!)
Mile is common in the US, glad they keep it indoors.
Your comment is obsolete 😅
bro is fluent in yapping
It’s just easier for volunteers that work races and has zero to do with world records. 1 lap, 2 laps, 4 laps, 8 laps on existing infrastructure. Many, many high schools have tracks still from the 30s, 40s, and 50s with just updated surfaces.
Jakob, Kerr, Timmy C, Kiprop, and many others have ran the mile in recent years, shut up man
Where's all the t ra ns women at in this race? Isn't it strange that it's one sided (men in women's events, not the other way) if everyone really is equal as we keep being told? 😮
What the hell are these bots doin here
Gg Houser tho
Idk, they're all over this channel thou
Pre fontaine would be so disappointed at this "race"
