As an eastern european, I came to UK for a better life in 1998 and stayed for 16 years. Best times of my life... It wasn't easy, but it was exciting and I've experienced so much. I went back to London this year in July and I was shocked at what UK has become. A total shithole. At times, I felt like I was in India or Middle East, rather than in Europe. Come on, British people, wake the F up!! Don't let your beautiful country get ruined!!
I live debt-free in Thailand. I live in an older condo in Pattaya (a 5-minute scooter ride to the beach). It is all concrete, so the rooms are quiet (I have a video of the condo). I am on the ninth floor, so the sunsets are great, and I do not have much trouble with mosquitoes or road noise. We have a large pool with a slide. There is a restaurant by the pool; most meals are 3-7 dollars. My rent is $207/month. I have a new wall unit A/C, that I run 24/7 and my electric bill is $30/month. My room is 270 square feet or 30 square meters. It has plenty of room for a single guy. I have no plans to move back to the States.
I checked out his apt tour. This man is winning. All a man needs is a 1 bedroom/studio and he's content. This man has food, the beach, and women right outside of his door if need be. Kudos my friend! 🍻
I returned to the UK a few months ago from living and working in Hong Kong and Japan for over 30 years. I wanted to experience the UK for a few years before it’s gone . I fear that I am too late.
@ I lived there in the early 90s which was when it was truly fantastic. I’m a regular visitor and love it .. go and see for yourself you won’t regret . There are lots of UA-cam bloggers reporting on life there. When I lived in Tokyo I was the only non Japanese person for miles and kids pointed at me in the street 🤪
Yeah I’ve seen a lot of the UA-camr videos. Looks a great country. I find the Japanese people really chilled and friendly. Loads of Japanese expats where I lived in Thonglor, Bangkok.
Well said mate! I moved back to the UK in 21 from Thailand. I will be moving back next year. The UK has changed so much and I realise I cannot raise my family here My kids, wife and I were so much happier in Thailand. We cannot wait to leave!!
I was born in Stoke on Trent 1972, you either worked down the Pits or in the Pot Banks, I started work at 16 as a welder fabricator then started onsite steel erector at 18 for 28 years working 60-70 hours a week all over the place. I had three beautiful kids but only had them at weekends due to working away. I had an opportunity to work overseas on a two-year contract in tax free country. I've never looked back it was the hardest decision I've ever made to leave my home & loved ones. I've always wanted a boat and to sail free the only way to do this and retire before I'm old and broken body like my dad. So, we made a 10-year plan. I have 2 years left I already have my yacht which will soon become my home. I am a proud English man & hate what has happened to my country over the last 50 years, I tell my kids to get out ASAP because now I'm not a proud English man I'm a far-right thug & threat society. I will never come back & it breaks my heart.
@mrdamianking not at all nothing to do with your looks it's what you say... blaming and scapegoating innocent refugees and migrants who flee war because the uk and usa decided to bomb there countries now the F a r ...R i g h t have burned down there hotels and are violent to them. It's the Tory government that have destroyed the uk with 14 years of austerity not the migrants..
I'm far right, like everyone in Asia is, and proud to be. People forget or don't realise that all of Asia are conservatives. It's only the west that's left wing and look at the mess they are in now
Hi Rob, I was born in 1964 & lived in Weston Coyney. My heart breaks daily for the city I once knew. I go to bed angry & awake angry. Apart from a 4 year stint living in London in my mid twenties I’ve lived back here in Meir Heath. Had I known 12 years ago what I know now id have been off. It’s a cesspit of squalor, immigration, boarded up shops, druggies/homeless, obesity and utter apathy for life. I long to escape this grim drudgery but my children keep me here. One day hopefully!
Aussie in Chiang Mai here. We have two completely different stories on our Thailand journeys but I totally appreciate yours. First came here in January 1984 and was amazed that every business or house I went into had a picture of a bloke on the wall who I quickly learned was the King Bhumipol. This was southern Thailand too which was predominately Muslim but they still loved their King. It fascinated me, and I endeavoured more to understand it. I was fortunate that my company had offices in Malaysia and I was able to deploy there on many occasions and travel to Thailand on weekends. Fast forward to 1998 and I was working the middle east and my second holiday I headed to Thailand...rest is history, Living here since 2006. Cheers and thank you for sharing and may your life have the same awesome outcome that I feel mine has :)
I lived in the UK and also lived in the US and also lived down south in Malta. Life is how you make it and its about your personality as well. Anywhere you go has the prons and cons. No such country is perfect. One thing Ive learnt, that people around you can make a great positive or negative impact.
Ive just turned 60 and hate everything about what my homeland the UK has become, In 2 1/2 yrs my mortgage is paid and my Thai wife and me and our daughter are selling everything and moving to Thailand, Fortunately my house in south east england has more than doubled in price in 15 yrs and is worth a large fortune, I will be taking enough to last us 4 yrs until my pension age and leaving the bulk in the UK invested in ETFs, If I dont do it I fear I will die an early death of alcohol poisoning such is my total unhappiness here and my habit of drinking large glasses of Whisky in the evenings to bring some joy to my otherwise very dull and very expensive life in the UK.
ETF's??? Are you crazy. Financial armageddon is on the horizon. The West is finished both morally and financially. Head to Asia and invest there. Asia is the rising star.
Whiskey can't bring anyone joy , it can only numb the current underlying pain that one has providing a temporary sense of relief , but once it wears out and gets flushed out of the system , the current pain and the toxic effects of the whiskey remain ...
If you do sell your house in the uk ,Gibraltar savings bank in Gibraltar owned by the uk government is offering 5% on British pounds locked in for 4 years, just an idea where to put your money
Whiskey is poison in a bottle that brings no joy to any life apart from false feelings and lots of money spent, i understand a glass once a week but drinking everyday is knocking on deaths door
I lived in France for 16 years aand was glad to be back in the UK in 2019! Hated the hot summers and spent much of them in an air condtioned house with the shutters shut. Okay for a holidya but not pleasant month after month!
Damian very interesting video enjoyed, this COUNTRY is FINISHED its getting DANGEROUS cost of LIVING is EXTORTIONATE PRICES it's no way to live like THIS
That’s what I love about America. But they have a lot of issues themselves, right? I keep hearing people rave about Florida though. Are you planning on moving out there?
@@mrdamianking I love Florida BUT = 1-Near impossible to buy a house. 2- Insurance are 6 to 12 times national average. 3- Same problem with temperature then Thailand. 4- At least 5 red states better then Flo. OR even better with Serbia, Hungary, Romania, Portugal. Heathy governments, healthy values, 25% the price, easier to get permanent residency.
@@ThereIsAlwaysaWay2 no where is perfect but US still has way more opportunity for wealth creation than these countries. No one is building the next Apple in these countries.
Life is always about the people in it. For me the British humour, history and seasons cannot be beaten. I’ve been to most countries but always want to come home.
Never Ever Ever put a woman above yourself. You can always get a new woman but you can’t get your time back. Women are NEVER the priority. If you want to bless a woman your mom is the only one worthy of this.
100%. I am a woman. Having seen how my ex-sister in law treated my brother; 20 years of marriage meant absolutely nothing. Woman considers a man is a resource; period.
This. If a couple can't agree on a place to live, that is a deal breaker. I divorced over it. And there he was in a place he loved (except heat), a great lifestyle with plenty of income, and Thai women were invisible to him. I guess not everyone realizes the advantages of Asian women.
@@nikkion2140 Not every woman "considers a man is a resource". It's sad that your brother has suffered from that kind of woman but women are definitely not all like that.
Bro, why comment on something you have absolutely no knowledge of? I’m my own man and not some beta male. Firstly, I decided to go to Thailand and my missus didn’t have much of a say about it. She followed me to Thailand. And chose to split her time with the UK because she has family and business commitments. My missus was looking to move out full-time when I’d set up my new business, and I was the one who said Thailand wasn’t the place. My missus is an absolute diamond. How many women in a long-term relationship would be OK with their man heading to Bangkok and Pattaya to live when she isn’t there all the time? It’s called a solid and trusting relationship.
I came back to Windsor, UK, after 10 years in Dubai. I got sick of the heat, nightlife, and fakery. Best decision I could have made, and I am genuinely very happy to be back. My feet have touched the ground. I work hard, but I am also independent and have the joy of a safe home with family around me. I love the cool, fresh air, the changing seasons, long, brisk walks, and stopping by cafes for a decent coffee. Food here is just as variable as anywhere in the world. The Elizabeth line gets. me into London in 30 minutes!
Agreed we live in Greece but are currently visiting our children in the UK, I love the cold fresh clean air and the seasons, life's good and should be appreciated 🙂
@@francescagomme1687 Thank you, I think that all these people complaining about the UK should leave if only to discover that the grass is not greener on the other side and then they would all appreciate what they have! It's our second winter in England after 30 years and for me it's fabulous 😍
I know Windsor , I lived and worked there for around 30 years. Lived in Oxfordshire for 12 and London for to start with for 12 years from 1.970 The weather is worst part and the sky high prices are two negatives. The rest I agree.
I lived in Hong Kong for six years and it didn't take long to come to the realisation that summer is very similar to a UK winter. By that, I mean going outside is not particularly pleasant, unless you enjoy being drenched by the high humidity. You do acclimatise to some extent but I never found it pleasant. I moved from Hong Kong, to the USA after being offered a very nice job there (I have an Engineering degree). Back then, in 2001, the USA was extremely affordable and great value. I became accustomed to the US way of life, which has to be the most comfortable and convenient that I've experienced - I've been to 70+ countries and 40 US States, so feel somewhat qualified to give that outlook. What I was not foreseeing was being denied entry to the USA in 2016 and accused of a thought crime, one that I had never imagined. I've been back in the UK for almost two years now after a stint in Vietnam, I think the UK (Scotland in my case) is a fantastic place to live in comparison to most of the other nations I've lived in. Life is what you make of it, at the end of the day.
Thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom. I am 65 so I ask where is my next destination? I am content here in SE, though it has turned into no longer a desirable place, until I go back to my maker. Amen.
This resonated a lot with me. I lived in south east Asia for nearly 10 years (4 of them in Thailand and the rest in Malaysia and Myanmar) but currently live in London where I’ve been for the last 4 years. While Thailand was an amazing time, I got tired of jumping through hoops just to stay there and the lack of financial security and upward mobility. Malaysia and Myanmar were a bit better in that regard but due to Covid I was forced back to the Uk where I’ve based myself and gotten relatively comfortable and settled. But trouble is brewing on the horizon here and anyone with any sense will think of a get out plan. I don’t blame the immigrants, i blame our inept government and selfish politicians. I myself have been an economic migrant seeking a better life than the miserable existence i had growing up in a deprived northern town.
Completely agree with this. I moved to Thailand in 2003 and probably would have stayed there if they had come up with a sane visa system. Moved on to Malaysia (oh Penang I miss you so much!) and later Philippines, which became my second home. I'm now also looking to rebase out of UK and take early retirement - the budget pretty much forces me to do this. First preference is Holland - first worked there in the 80s and fell in love with the people and the country. But housing is not cheap, so we have a couple of exploratory trips to France lined up. Where are you considering moving to?
I agree the visa situation can become tiresome, and jumping from country to country can get tiring. Myanmar was a country I enjoyed travelling many years ago. Can’t imagine what it would be like to live though. Where’s abouts where you based?
@@mrdamiankingMyanmar was actually turning into a very good place before the military took over (again). I’m currently based in west London but about to travel very soon to make more content.
@@CaldonianDude I’ve been exploring a few of cheaper destinations lately like a few Latin American countries and also the balkans is quite favourable. I’m still back in London for now but live extremely close to Heathrow so I’m able to travel quite frequently.
Interesting! I have a simiilar story. I left the UK in 2010 to travel Asia and ended up living in Laos for two years (with a lot of time spent in Thailand for border hopping)! Then I was in Vietnam for a few years and then Malaysia for a few years (the second half of which was lockdown). For various reasons (some of which you mentioned) I decided to close that chaper of my life, but I was reluctant to return to the UK. I've been in rural Ireland since 2022. Like everywhere, it's not perfect, and comes with it's own set of challenges but overall, I enjoy the quality of life I have here.
Damian, you are absolutely right about the UK. But your home country needs patriots like you. The phoenix can rise again from the ashes but if the Brits leave their country, who will soldier on for the next generation? It is going to be tough, that is true, but just as your forefathers fought for the country with valour, and defended it with pride and honour, the country now needs the support of every loyal man and woman to protect the British culture, her values and rich heritage. Welcome back. Let us make Britain great again.
I think it’s a losing battle. For Britain to be great again we strong leadership, and that’s something we don’t have. We have already lost London and most major cities. Time to jump ship and go in search of a better life. At least for me anyhow.
@@The-Invasion-UK I wish you all the best in England but we are divided. It's nothing personal against the English people, at the end of the day you are a foreign country. Also one which is swinging further and further to the right while Scotland is not. Your politicians don't even work for you so how is Scotland ever going to do better? We will always be neighbours and your friends no matter what happens but it's time for one of the oldest nations on earth to regain her independence.
I'm Polish and lived in the UK for almost 18 years. Recently I left the UK for good. My two complaints are - the weather and the people, I was hard to find even half decent friends and I never felt like at home.
I just turned 44 and awfully late to investing with barely any portfolio except my 401k, I have a decent amount of cash saved up and with inflation currently soaring AGAIN, I'm getting worried about retirement, my intention is to retire at 55. How best do I maximize my savings of over $220k
Retirement is now more difficult than it was in the past. it's all about balancing your risk tolerance with your long-term goals. Maybe consider speaking to an advisor to help in diversifying your portfolio to spread out the risk
Agreed, I've always delegated my excesses to an advisor, since suffering major portfolio loss early 2020, amid covid outbreak. I'm now semi-retired and only work 7.5 hours a week, with barely 25% short of my $4m retirement goal after subsequent investments to date
Thanks for sharing your experience! I've been managing my portfolio myself, but it's not working out. Do you have any recommendations for a good investment advisor? I could really use some help

Brilliant video,so I have been married to my Thai wife today for 38 years, currently spending 8 months a year in Thailand and 4 months a year in the uk,working as a street trader, it’s only worth working the street in the summer,I am sixty in February.i could happily stay in Thailand for the rest of my life but the medical situation is the problem,I looked after both my parents until they passed and the medical attention they needed could never be had here in Thailand, well maybe if I was multi millionaire it could.but I live on the rent from a property in the uk, the moment I cannot get travel insurance Thailand is over for me,in February I am going to New Zealand the Cook Islands and Australia.all three have a reciprocal agreement with the United Kingdom for emergency medical cover .so my plan is for the future is van life march April may on my land in central Portugal I bought for 6500euros a few years back June July August working the street in the uk. September October November back to the land in Portugal and the coldest 3 months down under, for me it’s all about the medical cover,Gibraltar is also an option, but after visiting 154 countries and territories I think Thailand has it all, especially away from the tourist areas, safe very polite people and cheap, good luck on your journey
We left Australia forever earlier this year for similar reasons. It is not as far down the gurgler as the UK but they both have similar issues. I think the most important thing is to ensure that you are not a UK tax resident. Once that is achieved you can be flexible as to where you want to be throughout the year and it doesn't have to be one place.
I’ve been looking into the tax issue for some time. Surprisingly, I found the U.K. not as bad as some European countries, but when you take into account property prices and the cost of living, it becomes expensive. Certainly, the new government is not helping.
I'm planning to just work in Australia for 6 months then travel SEA for 6 months and repeat until I decide if I want to move to Thailand or somewhere similar. I'm 33 now and make good money but can't justify buying property here now it's so expensive. Australia is going down the gurgler fast, especially in Melbourne and Sydney.
@Theyadayada , the ultimate life hack is if you can pull a good first world income, avoid high taxation and enjoy a cheaper cost of living elsewhere. For many people hitting each one of those will be difficult so a compromise between them is what works best that will be dependent on each persons wants and needs. The fact the countries like Australia and the UK now essentially take half of what you earn make it near impossible for people to build up wealth so if you can develop a profession where your location doesn't matter sticking around a high tax and high cost of living nation makes no sense.
Great video! I left the UK nearly 30 years ago. 15 years ago I built my dream pad off grid in the north of Thailand. Still working and certainly feel a sense of freedom here.

I lived in Thailand from 2004 to 2011. My wife is a none bar girl Thai. I was not into the bar scene at all. After about 4 years in Thailand i couldn't take the ineptitude and chaos anymore. Everything bad in the uk is worse in Thailand. Education, police, weather, corruption, bad roads, pollution, noise, and lawlessness. Day to day living is an utter nightmare in Thailand. Plus, it's not that cheap. I'm guessing this guy has spent his time in Thailand surrounded by other young tattooed foreigners on the beaches. Once he tries living a normal life he'll find out. I now completely appreciate the wonder of the uk, even though it does have endless problems. The uk would have to drop a long, long way to be anywhere near as screwed up as Thailand. And by the way, whilst you might joke about being arrested in the uk for a social media post, in Thailand, there are opinions that you can not even voice out loud.

I've worked in Thailand and other parts of South Asia through the years from 1998. Nearly all of those I worked with eventually went back home to their countries such as The UK, Australia, Canada etc unless the unlucky ones I knew they had untimely deaths at all ages including Vietnam as well as Thailand . The rest will nearly ALWAYS have to return and one of those main reasons, due being health.
I've seen people murdered before my own eyes in Bangkok. I think many expats or tourists are buffered from reality there. If only they read the local Thai media to see what was happening around them. Crime is rampant there -however, if you keep your wits about you and watch the type of friends you are making, both farhang and Thais then you should be safer.
I left the UK two years ago for Portugal. It's not cheap there anymore. Property prices are silly. The Tax is high, the bureaucracy is insurmountable, incompetence and dishonesty are a problem. It's beautiful though and people are nice. I didn't stay. Spain is better and cheaper, but still high tax and it's not pretty like Portugal is. France is surprisingly affordable, lower tax, much more for your money buying property, but it has similar problems to UK.
We lived in Lisbon for 4 years. The beurocracy was so bad we left. They made our lives hell tryimg to develop a property there. They clearly do not like foreigners.

Im about to move from Croydon to an upmarket part of London. Daughter in private school also. You do have to have very deep pockets. The main worry as a fellow entrepreneur is the worsening tax situation and anti enterprise government. On the private life side, the continued assault on freedom of speech is a major concern.
Similar negative changes happening here in Canada. With sky-high apartment rent prices and soaring food prices, Canada is not the very livable country it once was. Many Canadians are moving to Mexico and other countries. Thanks for your video. It is very well produced with content that is very thoughtful and relevant to these crazy times we live in. Cheers.
I arrived in London in 1970 from Rome Italy. I knew no one I didn’t speak English. From day one I started my journey up the ladder. I was happy to find London welcoming and friendly. I ended up being self employed for about 40 years but now retired therefore spending 6 months in UK, 6 months in Thailand which I admit it’s best of both worlds. Although UK is definitely digging its own grave as so much has changed for the worst, I can’t bring myself to live all year round in any of the 2 countries mentioned. But if I had to choose, Thailand would be the one. I live 5 minutes from the beach, 20 minutes from Central Festival Pattaya, this ( as many others) is shopping mall we can dream of in UK and the cost of my condo ( it’s mine) is £1k a year. That includes electricity water condo maintenance charge and car insurance. Petrol is 1/2 price, the fabulous hotels cost is rising but still no comparison to UK cost. The sunshine is free…. But obviously I’ll go on with the 6 in UK and 6 in Thailand for as long as I can. I find this suits me.
I lived in Pratumnak for a year. Lovely area when you get outside of the City. Splitting your time between two countries is definitely the best option. The best of both worlds
Nice vlog mate. Enjoyed that. I've never been to Thailand and always wanted to go visit, but I know I couldn't hack the heat. European heatwaves nearly kill me as it is. Anyway, I left UK for mainland Europe back in the late 90's and never ever regretted it. Sure I miss some things like the super friendly northern folk where I'm from (south of Manchester) and sometimes I really wish I could live back there, but if I'm being honest I don't think I ever could. I'd probably enjoy it for 3-4 weeks before I started itching to leave. Plus the area around where I'm from has really changed since I was a kid, and not for the better. In fact not one single thing is better or improved. So, good luck to you and the girlfriend in your new life. Excited to see where you chose. Spain, Italy, Portugal maybe ?
Thanks mate. Thailand is an amazing country. I’d highly recommend Chiang Mai if heat is an issue. It’s much cooler up there. Amazing scenery and national parks. Sadly, I don’t see the U.K. improving so I’ll find somewhere else to call home. Watch this space 👍🏻
Well said that man. I lived here in LOS since 2014. I married settled and am really happy. I live on my army pension and war pension. My expenses are under $350 a month, the wife nips to the market and comes home with delicious food for under 15GBP a day. I am disabled (ex-army) and now have been fighting cancer fror 3 years. Luckily, I had the foresight to get the right visa, work permit, pay tax and social here. Had three major operations, 24 weeks of chemo and endless medications and hospital visits. All paid for from the Thai social. The Vetreans UK got involved, asked me to come home.......To what, a long wait to see a doctor or hospital, no chance of social housing and potentially living with neighbours I fought against. They did add, you can claim all sorts of benefits immediately! but money isnt everything. I'll take my chance, waking up each day in my beautiful home, sunshine and clean air. Say hello to neighbours and take walks on the beach. I feel gutted the UK is now a bog of hell......Thanks for you blog, reminding me to be greatful, for I have the world.
Great perspective and can relate to a lot of what you said living in Bangkok for 3 years. No doubt you’ll find success wherever you land - anyway you survived here, can thrive anywhere.
Nice, in Thailand at the moment and leaving to go to the Philippines funny I'm not categorized as working for a living either.... I love England but unless we are going to physically fight for the country unfortunately it's lost so need to find a new home
@@mrdamiankingI’m genuinely sorry to hear that. I’ve only got great memories of the UK including the whole Brit Pop era, etc. Back in late ‘95 I had visa problems and had to return to Australia. It was the worst “wrench” of my life. Sad to hear it’s worse for wear now. I’m in Phuket atm, and still love it, but the crowds, pollution and overdevelopment are slowly ruining the place - not to mention all the visa bureaucracy and newly “proposed” tax bs. Getting hard to know where to go next? Aus is SUPER expensive too, almost zero rental vacancies and it’s become very hard on low income earners like myself. Unlike Thailand, Australia stupidly let foreign investment decimate the housing market. Some OS individuals buying up multiple properties at a time. I disagree with many Thai policies, but that is one smart move IMO.
Thanks for your story. I have lived in Thailand for 1 year and agree with much of what you said. Although I don't agree with blaming refugees or illegal immigrants for England's woes. Studies have shown that the vast majority of refugees are gainfully employed and solid members of society. I believe it is only far right radicalism that focuses on the minority who don't. Also I do not condone hate speech, and that is why people are being arrested or fined. You can validly talk about your opinions and thoughts without resorting to demonising a class of people or spewing hate on the internet. It is simple respect and tolerance before speaking or typing. Anyway thanks for the video, and like I said I understand and agree with your take on life in Thailand. Have a great new life, wherever that may be.
I’m sorry but facts are facts. People who arrive illegally are criminals. The key point is arriving “Illegally”. I talk facts NOT hatred so get off your high horse!
What you said about your experience in Thailand is exactly what I'm concerned about. I think the hot weather, relaxed lifestyle, being surrounded by holidaymakers and retired people would seriously damage by motivation and drive, so I'll be staying where I am for now. But going there to retire is a no-brainer.
99% of foreigners, tourists, and retirees go to the same 1-5% of places. Chiang Mai is a good place as an initial base, and then venture out from there... If you really want to go off the beaten track then go to the countryside make friends with local people, and learn about the lifestyle and culture whilst also working online if you are able to.
@justininthailand8914 I’ve done that before and got a little bored to be honest. Being from London I’m drawn to busier places. Plus all my friends are there. I agree though, it’s great to explore places off the beaten track

Dude I thought you talking about my home Canada! I will be spending 3 months in thailand starting January. All the same problems as you mentioned with our government. Wtf! Good luck mate!
Excellent video and well narrated and as ive said before, i moved to Thailand in 2016 and will never live in the collapsing UK again but i totally understand your point regarding the heat. It can be so repressive and tiring on a daily basis so i like to take off from Thailand to North Vietnam every once in a while with temperatures like a proper English summer. You should look at Cyprus, Eastern Europe or even Southern Spain / Portugal although i personally wouldn't live in the EU due to the same type of lunatics running the EU as are running the UK, so it will be interesting to see where you end up. 👍
I have to be honest I’m missing Thailand big time. The food, the vibe, the people and the energy. I agree most of Western Europe is in a bad place, but the UK is leading the race by a country mile. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I have a place in Bulgaria and Thailand.... My kids live in the UK. I would sooner live on the streets than move back to the UK... You have other choices and I will guarantee you will hate the country you left
Excellent video I live in Thailand and it does have its ups and downs but being an Australian I couldn't afford to live there now I think it's like the UK totally fkd All the best Cheers
I'd take the UK over Thailand every single day and I've lived in a hot country for a very long time and I'd still take the UK, yes it's a shyte hole but it's our shyte hole. You know what the weather will be. You know the customs, the culture and language. Everywhere is expensive now not just the UK, people moan wherever they live and those that go tell you how great their lives are, been there, seen that, 90% of it is all BS. It's not easy living in another country, learning a new language, culture, finding work, surviving.
I am glad I came across your video today. A lot of similarities between what you have said about the UK and what I think about Canada. We left in 2021 and have been constantly travelling ever since.
Serbia, Hungary, Romania has a near identical temperature then UK + 25% to 40% cost of life + less taxes + healthier gov. Weird random info : 100% women I know who followed their man are together. 100% men I know who followed their women's have split.
You are one seriously nice guy.. I am in Thailand since 2012,,, Still here, still happy. Not an easy ride,,,,, Your video is great..Good luck old chap.
Started off ok but decended into a xenophobic rant with no real basis in reality. Everyone is entitled to their view but at least be original and informed. I don't understand how you can live in another country for 3 years then whine about immigration in your own, do you not understand the meaning of the word irony. You've been conditioned to point your finger in the wrong direction to look at the problems in the UK. I am also from London, lived abroad for several years (including Thailand) and will be returning next year. Anyone outside the UK can see where the big problems are, very little to do with the immigration problem, everything to do with Tory shysters mismanaging the country for 14 years and just placing profit above people and wrecking the very fabric of community, society and British culture. The British media would have you believe otherwise becaus it distracts from the toxic input of their corporate friends
every single word of what you said is truth and millions of us feel the same. Visit Montenegro if you havent already, you will like the freedom and lack of woke. Tivat is incredible.
@ Bureaucracy is a total nightmare. Over 400,000 immigration cases at SEF/AIMA -immigration in backlog. Have been unable to renew residency card. Legally I’m unable to travel to another Schengen Area country as technically I’ve overstayed as I don’t have a current residency within the EU. The government has extended my expired card until June 2025 … but I was denied private dental treatment at my own dentist as they could not process my appointment. Computer says ‘no’ as I have an expired card. Six visits to swap my Uk licence to Portuguese. Because of the very high numbers entering the government cannot manage the health service, education or housing. Just over a million have entered - 10 million population. The government really doesn’t know true numbers as they do not count foreign students, dependants of those waiting for residency, us with temporary residency and many others. It has certainly changed since we arrived 3 years ago. No longer a welcoming place. May be very different in the Algarve but near Lisbon the story is different! On the way to becoming a failed state.
Spot on mate, I just moved to Australia as this new goverment got in the best thing I ever did, don't get me wrong Australia has its problems but atleast here you are rewarded for your work unlike the UK. Best of luck!
It's negative here in UK,.you walk into a supermarket cafe with a Thai Woman you hear some of the mutters, usually the generation born in 50's and 60s,.we both work, pay our bills have 2 daughters, ive found its the working class and benefits class they try hold you back even though i have to work also
It is a shame. Thailand does have such a bad reputation for S tourism, and unfortunately ignorant people can’t see outside of that. Normally the people that have never left the UK
I know many brits married to thai women and they do not get people muttering about them but when you see a 75 year old guy with a 25 year old partner then maybe that would start some looks but that's the same with any nationality
@@truth.952 That 75;year old would be held in high esteem for marrying a young woman making her wealthy and living a better life by the Thais personally not my cup of tea .
Open your ears and take note next time. At no point in any of my videos have I complained about immigration. I’ve said the U.K. has an issue with “Illegal” immigration. They are NOT the same thing.
The irony and the hypocrisy and above all the audacity: an immigrant in Thailand talking about immigration in Uk. What makes you think you are a better immigrant? You do not fit into Thai culture so get the hell out of there. You hypocrites make
You‘re spreading propaganda: the people in the UK jailed for social media posts were inciting hatred which is illegal no matter how it’s done. Advocating things such as setting fire to hotels housing immigrants deserves to be. It’s not simply airing an “opinion” as you put it.
Agreed, this video is just tosh started off interesting and degenerated in to pound shop farage language Stay in Thailand your populist rubbish isn't welcome here
There was an old guy who posted a message saying he thought the perpetrator of that horrible stabbing was a Muslim and he got locked up for three years for telling the truth.
Yes, an old guy got beheaded in Edinborough by a bus, clean cut,.. no sign of the bus or the driver. Man stabbed on westminster bridge, but died of a heart attack, Welsh choir boy (allegedly!) stabbed three young girls to death, but not a terrorist, has biological agent Ricin in his home and a pdf. download of AlQuaida terror manual, but Nothing-To See Here !! This is sh!t going to blow, and soon.
Very interesting and found you by accident. I left 10 years ago and i cant fo back thats for sure as i don't recognize the Country that educated me and gave me my skills that have taken me around the World. 4 years in New Zealand but thats very much like the USA and 24 hours away from Europe. Met a French lady there and now 6 years in France. Good luck.
Glad you liked the video. Drove through France a few weeks ago. I was amazed by the beautiful countryside. Normandy was amazing. Where abouts in France are you based?
Just got back from Qatar, loved it. Safest country in the world, fantastic people, only problem is…its mega expensive. If I had the money I’d live there in a heartbeat 👍
I feel the same way and I live across the Atlantic. It's amazing how much things have declined in the past 10-15 years. I will stay in Phuket and travel home to visit. Life is not the same at "home".
Absolutely fantastic video and I think you nailed so many issues, with both Thailand and the UK. I left UK in 2003 for Thailand and lived there happily for three years before moving on to Malaysia and the Philippines. I then adopted a split time approach with winters in SEA and summers back in UK. But now, for the reasons you so well described in your video, I am looking to rebase for early retirement. The last budget was the final straw for me - Britain is done, there is no question about it, and there is no coming back. Sad, but true. My preference would be to move to Holland or Denmark, but we are now focusing in on France. It's going to be interesting to see where you end up going!
Splitting time between countries can be the answer. The best of both worlds. Rural France is beautiful. Normandy in Particular is nice. Good luck with your endeavours.
Wow, those views are unbelievably close to mine. It was like listening to the daily thoughts in my head. I wish you all the best where you go. And as a freelance web designer/dev even the flexibility of the job aspect is similar. I too want to escape but have a more complex family situation and others to consider, but have made the decision to do what I can in 2025 to make this happen. To leave to someone with good weather that is safe. In an ideal world my own plot of land to build a house on.
Interesting, I’ve just done my first year in Jomtien, have similar thoughts and no real idea where i want to make my permanent home, but right now i very happy and do feel slightly settled here. Just did a financial year costing video and man, im not sure I could afford to go back to the uk now I’m fully retired !
I did a year in Prattumnak and really enjoyed it. Peaceful location, gym close by and some great local food close by. Not the biggest fan of the City centre, but there is another side to Pattaya that most people aren’t aware of. But I was itching to get back to Bangkok after a while.
Wow such sense, related to this so much! I’ve been living overseas since 2020 (Dubai, Thailand, Bali, Mexico, Colombia, Barcelona, Brazil) I think I’ll set up shop in Spain next year and take the tax hit. Get myself a castle. Good luck.

Best of luck Dave. Ease up on the drinking mate. It won’t make things any better. Trust me I’ve been there.

My missus was looking to move out full-time when I’d set up my new business, and I was the one who said Thailand wasn’t the place. My missus is an absolute diamond.

We left Australia forever earlier this year for similar reasons. It is not as far down the gurgler as the UK but they both have similar issues. I think the most important thing is to ensure that you are not a UK tax resident. Once that is achieved you can be flexible as to where you want to be throughout the year and it doesn't have to be one place.
I’ve been looking into the tax issue for some time. Surprisingly, I found the U.K. not as bad as some European countries, but when you take into account property prices and the cost of living, it becomes expensive. Certainly, the new government is not helping.
Australia is a just a few years behind the UK, I left UK 17 years ago & I will be leaving Australia in the next 3.5 years once I have hit 60 for SEA

What have my tattoos got to do with anything? Shown your true colours there old boy 😂

Great vid Damian, so refreshing to have an honest warts and all vid!
@Prodrive1 really insightful. I’ve heard other similar stories about Portugal. to thanks for sharing

Im about to move from Croydon to an upmarket part of London. Daughter in private school also. You do have to have very deep pockets. Cheers.

18 years in Thailand and aint going anywhere
Tough to beat Chiang Mai and it has a cool season also
Chiang Mai is a great place. Loved it there .

Some people actually have meaningful and enriching relationships. It's not just having someone to fuck.

I lived in London on and off from ‘93 to ‘95. Loved it to bits. Made some great friends too. London in summer was magical.
I spent most of my adult life in London. It was a great place. Very few cities compare. Sadly that’s not the case these days.
