  • Construction is mahogany neck set into a mahogany body with a maple cap. Sound familiar? Here's a Les Paul that was built by a Viking in Beijing that'll make you stand out from the crowd.

That hidden stop bar mechanism cracked me up ... looked like a dodgy Meccano creation ! As for the mystery humbuckers, from what I've found, I think they're made by a South Korean pickup manufacturer called Boo Heung Precision Machinery, who also have a Chinese factory.

Hi Chris and thanks or the info :-) You did better than me! Yes, those electrical connectors seem to answer a question that nobody asked but I think if you fancy a quality single cut guitar and you're not a Gibson fan it's a decent alternative. Cheers, Gary :-)

Ah.....I see you've let your Dad stand in for you this weekend.😊 Lovely instrument well played. Hope healing continues as well as it has this early on. See you next week. Cheers Bob.

Hahahahaha, hi Bob :-) It's nice to let the old lad have a go every now and then hahahahaha. We've got a 20 minute review of an LPR on Wednesday and I'll give a update on the surgery in a separate video. Cheers, Gary :-)

Hi Gary, it's clear you're a Gibson man. It brought a smile to my face when you said "And on to the neck" then flicked the switch back up. I remember Jan Akkerman played one of these back in the 70s and a teenage me desperately wanted one. I love the sound of this guitar...well maybe not the bit where it's got a cold but that could surprise you and be just the tone for a particular tune. They've re-issued these guitars and the new ones do have some gorgeous colours available. The new ones just have the pull/push coil split instead of the second switch. I've seen them on the interweb about £850 inc. a nice hard case, which is well within my budget come the autumn and I was tempted for about ten minutes but the thing is it doesn't have that special "G" word on the headstock and I know that when the "New Guitar" feeling wore off I'd wish I'd gone for a Les Paul.

Hahahaha, Hi Rod :-) Hmm, old habits die hard, eh? I know what you mean about the honeymoon period. You'd kick yourself until you sold it on and ended up buying a Gibson anyway. I went to see Focus last year in my local pub (yep, really and it was really them) and although we had Pierre VDL and Thijs VL there was no Jan, but there was a young Dutch guy who had his every lick off to a tee. He was playing a Gibson. 'Nuff said. Cheers, Gary :-)

@@FoxysGuitarShow I saw Focus about 1976, Jan Akkerman quit the band just a few days before the gig. I saw what I think was their 2nd gig without him. They brought in a guy from Belgium to finish the tour called Philippe Catherine. He was a great player but not the man I'd bought my ticket to see.

Hi Gary, Now this is a Very Nice Change this Week Mate! A Black Hagstrum 6 String Guitar with two pick-ups.What a lovely Surpise! The guitar is not the price of your similar Gibson! But it sounds and plays fantastic, and l just love it! The price is also much lower than its Gibson Counterpart. Another beautiful instrument. It's just a shame that the Name Hagstrum isn't just as well known as other 🎸 Guitar Manufacturers. Another, Great find Gary. Kindest regards, Mick 👍 🎉.

Hi Mick and thanks :-) Yes, they make a worthy alternative to a Gibson and like you say, it goes to show you don't need to break the bank to find decent quality. Cheers, Gary :-)

Hi Graham :-) I think that Hagstrom is a well respected name in instrument manufacture and you're quite right, there's not much to choose between one of these and a Gibson.......except the name! Thanks for your kind wishes and enjoy the sun while it's here! Cheers, Gary :-)

I tell you what, I had a brand new Hagstrom Alvar about 18 months ago, beautiful thing without a single fault in any way, for some reason I just couldn’t bond with it and ended up parting with it, a little bit soulless if such things are possible with guitars. The fretboard was synthetic and meant to ape ebony

Hi Dom :-) It's weird isn't it how some guitars 'talk' to you and others are just a lump of wood. Gibson tried the fake ebony look with a material called Richlite. I think they abandoned it after a year or two. Every credit for manufacturers trying new things though. Cheers, Gary :-)

Hi Steve :-) Blimey, I never thought of that! I'd go with the more generic HB for HumBucker though. We had a reply about them coming from a Korean manufacturer as it goes! Cheers, Gary :-)
