    Schwarzenegger being considered a massive star compared to The Rock is simple. He was actually in great movies. The Rock has Jumanji and the Fast franchise which are pretty good. Arnold was in classics including two of the best movies ever made in Terminator and T2. True Lies, Total Recall, Predator. Compared to The Rock it's not even close.

    • @devilmikey00
      @devilmikey00 6 років тому +5

      Yup he worked with some of the best action/comedy directors of the last 30-40 years. James Cameron, Paul Verhoeven, John McTiernan and Ivan Reitman. The Rock just hasn't really done that yet or perhaps never will. Also if you weren't around back when T2 came out that movie was a fricken PHENOMENON back then, like Infinity War big back in 91'. The rock hasn't come close to anything like that.

    • @azure_azure
      @azure_azure 6 років тому +10

      People don't give Arnold enough credit. He's actually been very ambitious in his career and clearly wanted to be known as the best just like his bodybuilding. He's done action, comedy, picked great scripts with talent behind them and now at 70 is doing a few dramatic roles. He's willing to branch out and do things he's not completely comfortable with. I think that's the Rock's problem he doesn't want to do something he's not comfortable with. He needs to take some risks and be more ambitious like Arnold was. He has it in him to do it but I'm not sure he will ever fully realize that.

    • @KMAC-mf4dk
      @KMAC-mf4dk 6 років тому +1

      As always, I loves Dan's thoroughness and his analysis. And you're right, Schwarzenegger not only.had good movies but they were ICONIC. The Rock needs someone to help him pick better scripts.

    • @hiimchrisj
      @hiimchrisj 6 років тому

      I wouldn't say that the Rock doesn't take risks because his filmography in the recent years is ridiculous. If anything he doesn't place much care at all in the projects he picks whereas even though Arnold's filmography was diverse his role in those projects was to be the same thing he always was.

    I think Ant-Man and the Wasp can still pull off a solid domestic final in spite of the steep 2nd weekend drop. Remember that Spider-Man: Homecoming, which dropped even steeper around the same time of year, still pulled off about an opening-to-final multiplier of around 2.85, its opening accounting for 35% of its gross. While not incredible, this is actually better than the majority of other MCU films. It shows that the film's box office legs recovered after that steep initial drop, thanks to the summer vacation boosts to weekday numbers and a lack of other comic book movies opening after it. Both of those conditions apply for Ant-Man too, so if it follows a similar pattern it would finish around $215m domestic, or a similar sequel boost as Thor 2 got- not amazing, but a solid earner. Either way, I wouldn't count it out from cracking $200m just yet.

    - I told my girlfriend about your new hair Roth (OK that sounds a little odd?), with this video she saw it, and add another "thumbs Up" on the new style.
    - Due to you guys and we'll be seeing The Meg 'with you' (we had no interest before you all started talking, joking, about it).
    - We are both now considering traveling to Comic Con next year, if you guys are appearing in whatever fashion. It would be cool to see you all in person. Have fun and looking forward to the reports.
    And thanks again for all the interesting conversations, analysis, laughs and extras.

    The Rock is the Acting version of Drake. They both are really good and are consider the top in their respective fields, but when you watch a Rock solo movie or actually sit down and listen to a whole Drake album, their okay not great. It doesn't take away from their talents, but then their both on to the next project, not really spacing out the content their putting out. They both become overexposed. The Rock had the movie Jumanji less than 7 months ago and its great, but who remembers. Arnold and Jay Z (for a comparison for Drake) they had clunkers as well, but also they had CLASSICS, they spaced out their content and fans don't remember their bad as much as their good. What is the CLASSIC solo Rock movie or the CLASSIC Drake album?

    I don't know how much people felt this as well and granted it was a different time, but with Arnold I originally just thought of him as an actor/movie star and only found out much later that he had had this whole other life before movies. Whereas, I tend to think at times of The Rock as that wrestler who is in movies. I don't know if that's what's causing The Rock's perception issues, but it just feels different and maybe that's why I think that.

    I think I figured it out. The Rock understands he’s become a Pauly Shore type actor, and he’s trying to make his money as fast as possible.
    I’m not saying he’s a bad actor like Shore, but he’s the same “persona actor” like him.
    You always knew what character Shore was going to be. It was the Pauly Shore persona+whatever the script needed. That’s the type of characters that The Rock has been lately. Every single one has, The Rock, as the base, and then plus whatever additional traits the script needs.

    Roth is right, it's simple - the Rock needs to pick better projects.
    I actually want the Rock to take a break from big, dumb action movies and do a rom-com (action rom-com?) where he falls in love with a nerd girl who teases him about his giant muscles/gym habits. I liked how he was able to not take himself too seriously in Central Intelligence, and I think he does really well in comedies.

    In The Rundown (the rocks first starring role in a feature) he passes Arnold in a club or something. The argument about the Rock not having a good film financially without other stars is completely true in my eyes since he hasn't had a big critically successful film in the recent years but his upcoming films in 2019 will have other big names such as Shazam and Jungle Cruise. He also has Red Notice coming out in 2020 with Gal Gadot so the success of those films will most defiantly cement the argument that the Rock can't blow it up without having at least one other big name to help him out.
