    In this 'Hand Analysis' segment from the GTO LAB podcast, Jonathan Jaffe and Daniel Negreanu dissect a high-stakes hand from a PokerGo Tour event against Kirsten Foxen. Daniel outlines his thought process behind a strategic check raise on the flop and navigates a complex decision on the river where his low pair is counterfitted. Despite the tight stack-to-pot ratio (SPR), he opts for a calculated check raise bluff. This hand is highlighted by both hosts as a key example of expert-level strategic play in professional poker. Watch for an in-depth breakdown of advanced poker strategies and decision-making.
    Thank you 🙏 Daniel Negreanu / ‪@dnegspoker‬

    I particularly dont like the hands she choose to bluff on the turn. She could have so many other hands to bluff and her hand is actually type of hands she wants Daniel to fold because it contains check raise range that Daniel is check folding on the turn. Daniel knew she was overbluffing in this spot and went for nice bluff.

    Why is she making such small bets with such a large stack? She could just wait for the scare card (King) then bet big and she wins? It's a perfect bluffing board, she gave it to him. Crazy.

      The 3 doesn't even matter now. It's 9s and Kings. Even if Daniel had a 3 in his hand, he probably has J3, A3, Q3 or even 10-3. It became about the kicker. Her kicker would have been 8. So even if she put Daniel on a 3, because the board paired, she thought he will definitely have a card higher than 8 to go along with his 3.

    This analysis is well done and entertaining. However, for the average viewer, I think the big picture is being missed. Dnegs' opponent called a check raise with 8 high on a paired board without a lot going for it. Against an aggressive flop player who shuts down after one street, maybe. But to call a check raise with a hand you KNOW is behind and could be drawing dead against a world class player is just fundamentally wrong. I assume it was an in game lapse of judgment (we all do it) because of being chip leader. Daniel would've been just fine with a fold on the flop but that raise was not meant to be a bluff.
    As far as Daniel's play on the river goes, if that river card is anything other than a nine, three or king, I assume he either calls or folds. Meaning this hand is a little cherry picked, as so many "training hands" are.
    The real lesson from this hand is what not to do. DO NOT CALL CHECK RAISES when you know you're behind to try and bluff good aggressive players. (1) Most poker players way under bluff check raise (2) Good payers balance check raising flop with best hand, draws and don't give up on the pot which is what happened here
    Actually, please start playing hands in your next live tournament like both of these payers did.

    • @stolencoats63
      @stolencoats63 Місяць тому

      Lol if you don't ever call check raises when you are behind then you will get massively exploited.

    • @jaredhemingway6078
      @jaredhemingway6078 Місяць тому

      Thank you for the poker theory lesson, I never considered that.
      Calling a check raise with a hand that might be ahead, for example with A high on a draw heavy texture, is one thing. Calling with a draw is another. You keep going around calling check raises with 8 high and no draw against tough opponents, someone is gonna be exploited, that’s for sure.
      They’re using the hand to get into Dneg’s mind, not recommend her play. Kristen is a crusher I’ve played with a few times (I have full respect for her game) but I’d guess when she looks back at this hand, she thinks “what was I thinking?”

    • @stolencoats63
      @stolencoats63 Місяць тому

      @jaredhemingway6078 you have to defend a portion of your range and the smaller the check raise the more of your range you have to defend. Her hand has robust equity meaning there's going to be a lot of turn cards that improve her hand to something more meaningful than 8 high.

    • @stolencoats63
      @stolencoats63 Місяць тому

      @jaredhemingway6078 to explain robust equity a little better, any club, 5, 6, T, or J improves her hand to something that can beat a large portion of Daniel's range. Other than that, if Daniel has a 3, a 7 or 8 will also improver her hand to a winning hand. So hopefully what I've explained helps you understand her thought process of calling essentially a clickback with only "8 high".

    • @jaredhemingway6078
      @jaredhemingway6078 Місяць тому

      Jeez, do I come off as someone who needs robust equity explained to them? You’ve written nothing I’m not already very familiar with. I’m educated in poker theory.
      What I’m saying is, her call is -EV against general population and certainly against tough opponents (who happen to be human beings, not a computer output). If you want to think otherwise, that’s fair, we can agree to disagree.
      I’m done with this hand, good luck in your games
