Im in the process of installing some in my 95. It also did not have speakers out of the factory and had the plates like this one. I ran the wire myself over the gauge cluster on the drivers side and fished it through with a straightened clothes hanger with the hook bent in on the passenger side. Im tying the tweeters in with the dash speakers and i have the dash speaker wire tied in with the front left and right door speaker wires.
Never installed a car stereo I'm looking at a double din with a backup camera and all new speakers and wires... figure if I'm already going to have it open..I better do all the updates at once....any tips or tricks??? Heck advice even?? Am I getting I'm over my head or does it really go that simple???
I got a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer and my lady bought me some small tweeters, is this where I would put them? and the automatic headlights, my truck is equipped with that but The lights are just constantly running, how would I fix that?
Good spot for a tweeter. A few companies used to make a tweeter on a 4x6 plate and also a 4" component set on a plate to replace the 4x6 speakers which do a terrible job or reproducing natural sounding midrange frequencies.
The late 90's Chevy Blazers come with DRL's (daytime running lights). Every vehicle produced in the U.S. today has them as they are a mandatory safety feature, just like backup cameras are now in the U.S. What you are seeing isn't your headlights on all the time, what you are seeing is your system using your high beam bulbs on low-power mode to provide your vehicle extra visibility to other drivers on the road. The sensor on your speaker grille measures the ambient light from the sun to determine when to turn on your regular low-beams. If you want to see this in action, watch your headlights shortly after you pull into a garage or parking garage, you'll shortly see your regular low-beams kick on.
@@williameldridge9382Daytime running lights are absolutely retarded. If it's such an important safety feature, then why is it so rare to see it on other cars on the road. It's the person behind the wheel that can be responsible. There's no reason to have DRLs in the bright day. I follow all laws about having the headlights on when It's necessary. And they still have the sensor that turns the lights on in the dark when the engine is running to where you can't turn them off.
So if I already had some new speakers installed and I wanna get new phone new to upgrade would it technically be just plug and play? Just disconnect the old speakers and add in the new ones?
I have a 01 chevy blazer s10 with factory 4x6 but problem is when i bought some nice skar audio 4x6 the magnet sits to low and they have about 1/2 inch gap before they sit flush and can be bolted in. Guess im gonna have to take dash out and cut holes in air condition vent ports behind the dash and then put dash back in unless someones knows a solution?
Probably to late for you bud but seen a buddy of mine use a old soup can and a torch get ya can nice and warm nun to hot the hollow that plastic out and just keep going back and forth with ya torch to soup can and soup can to plastic and sure enough the way he did it it melted it enough for the back end of the speaker’s to fit right down in there and ac heat and etc works just fine idk if there’s that kinda space in these trucks but it be worth a shot before cutting again my bad if I’m to late
I did this kind of install on a 1992 Chevy S10 back in 2003. I have had a ground issue every since. Is there a fact that Chevy made a ground system that goes through the speaker system ground? I replaced all 4 with 4 way 4x6, and 4x9's that goes into place of the factory speakers...
I’ve been watching this video over and over now for a couple months and cannot seem to fit model Pioneer TS-A462F in my 99 s10 pu they are 4x6. They don’t fit with the mount because the panel won’t go back on and without the mount the screws don’t tighten it down all the way either one side is up or I move it trying to put the cover back on. Is there a reason? are they vastly different than each other? Should I send them back and get the model number you list in the description? - edit upon looking at both speakers they have the literal same specifications so I don’t understand why they’re not fitting.. ☹️
It appears you are running the dash speakers on the same front channels in parallel with the door speakers? That would run the channels at 2 ohm each, most after market stereos have a 4 ohm minimum, this will eventually kill or damage the head unit. I would have wire swapped and then by passed the wiring harness making the fronts the dash and the rear the doors.
Except there already is rear speakers, so you'd be bypassing the rear speakers. The smarter move, to get more and better sound would be to put the front speakers and dash speakers in series. This would prevent damage to the head unit and give you an overall increase in sound.
Crutchfield said the same for my 2000 Jimmy, sent me an email back saying that all 4x6 speakers were too deep for the dash enclosure but they look like they fit fine here :/
One question,I have a 2004 Chevy Blazer and mine had the small tweeter like speaker's in the dash. Both sides had the red, black wiring, all factory. Now is this like anything else. Red positive black ground?
Generally yes, but if you are replacing the radio, i suggest then using a 9v battery to the old speaker and pop the speaker to see which way it moves. If it moves out, the + on the battery is touching the + of the speaker, indicating what wire is positive on the harness. if it pops inward, you have it backwards.
Those tweeters in the dash are hooked up in parallel like the speakers in this video.....with a tweeter it is fine, with 4x6 full-range speakers it is not. You will eventually blow out your head unit by doing that as it drops the resistance to 2ohms and 99% of head units require 4ohms. Hook them up in series instead.
I see you replaced the passenger side with no problem but how did you replace driver side 4×6 speaker? There's like a plastic air duct under Neath my 03 driver side speaker that's giving me clearance issues,I ended up breaking my grill cover.
i noticed the same thing dude,my blazer is in the shop so i cant go look at mine,i put some huge tweeters in my temporarliy and the driver side hit the ac duct, but now that i think about it,i was using the metal mounting piece he was, what if you made a ring out of wood that raised the speaker up almost flush with the grill then would it hit the ac duct dude ? try that or something like it,just lay a ruler across the entire hole with grill off and hold speaker up and see if you can fabricate something to raise it up,wood or metal, later man.
Grills can be bought on Amazon between 10-15$... and some junkyards sell them for $5.00 each. Just so u know. Also parts geek is a good site for s10s and vehicles like Sonoma's and others pretty fair prices
I have a 4 door 2000 Blazer ( power windows ) and just changed out my 6.5 " front door speakers ....do you know anything about removing the rear door panels ( going to replace those speakers next ) ......are they about the same amount of work as the fronts...harder or easier ...and are there any rear door speaker replacement tips you can offer .........thanks much
So doing this currently and I did the right side so far the way you did it and in not getting any power to my dash speaker. Is it a radio issue? Thanks!
I have a question I have a 2001 s10 xtreme and replaced my stock dash speakers with some kickers I noticed that the left one sounds loud and the right one you can barley hear it
Kenneth Lilley the Balance on the Head Unit should be in the middle. If it's not the head until, check the speaker wire, they should be positive to positive - negative to negative
Hey just a question, I have a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 and I noticed that on that right speaker cover there is a Bubble looking lens or something that a wire goes to and noticed yours had a wire unplugged on that Rt speaker cover also) what is that wire and what does it go to? (the bubble looking thing)?
Well, that depends on the package you buy. The plates in there are specifically put in so you can add 4x6 speakers from the factory if you were to buy the upgraded package.
Well better think before you do it this way because that is going to throw your ohm load off for the front channel and some radios wont even turn on with the wrong ohm load on a channel if there is a factory amp... which most s10s dont have but still I suggest people do research firs before going willy nilly just trying to be helpful
Parts linked in the description of the video!

Wait, are you wiring the new speakers in parallel with the existing speakers? That drops the impedance to 2 ohms if both sets are 4 ohms.
yeah i was thinking the same thing... tap right into the radio....
ideally if you are running new wire to a standard cab like this, you should connect the dash as front and doors as rear off the new headunit

what size are the philip screws btw?
I subbed because you were playing rage
So you wired two 4ohm speakers + to + and - to - right? You just dropped the ohms down to 2oms for each side. Hope that head unit can handle that
So I'm confused can u add speakers there or does it mess it up
OurLastNight Band playing in the background. youtube playing or on a local radio station?
Nah, probably pandora or spotify

What was the existing wire for then? Crutchfield says 4x6 won't fit in the dash of my 01 Sonoma for some reason
The existing wire there was for automatic lights which this truck which this truck wasn't equipped for, so the wire wasn't connected to anything.

yeah
Wire thats laying in the dash is that the original wire? So why did you run new ones if it is
Because that wasnt the speaker cable. Some s10s only have speakers in the door but that opening is always in the dash

I did a little custom work and put a big tweeter in there. Instead of a speaker
I somewhat did the same with a 4 inch Pyle 2way by using a JLAudio 4x6 speaker adapter and did some cutting on the grill to fit over the speaker.
im planning to do perhaps 2 one inch tweeters
and want to do ab 8 and 6.5 combo for the door

It’s security
Auto headlight sensor

Do the speakers need to be a three way or will a two way work as well??
Any coaxials work just fine! Two way will work great.
What were the two wires with the adapter on the end that were beside the speaker hole?
They were for auto lights but this S10 didn't have it equipped, so it was just loose in the dash.
