    I just made bowel licorice and winter green. The flavor is very weak. I followed the directions, the oil has not expired. Any thoughts? Is 2 drams OK? I can't find anything on the lorann site.

      Hi and thank you so much for watching. I always cool my candy at room temperature. I typically don’t make it in the summer months as the humidity makes it tricky to keep from being tacky. Keep it in a cool dry area for best results. 🙋🏻‍♀

    I have made hard candy many times with corn syrup and I never brush down the pot, I was told that corn syrup keeps the candy from forming crystals, and so far I have never had crystals.

      I rarely have an issue either. I believe this advice was originally given (not by me) for people just starting out, to be aware of sugar crystals or boiling too hard and fast. I make candy without that step as well 😊 Thank you for your comment!

  • @Apollo_Blaze

    Today I made a batch of hard candy smaller than this recipe...1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup corn syrup and 1/4 cup water...I only added 1/2 teaspoon of the Lorann pepermint oil, I was afraid to add the full teaspoon since it says it is so much stronger...but now I wish I had used the full teaspoon...the flavor is great, but not as strong as I would have liked (and yes, I did wait til the boiling action had stopped before adding the oil)...so I would like to say that in my case it was not as strong as it says. The flavor is fantastic, next time I will make it stronger.

      I get about 60 bears (bear mold) or 45 and a few suckers from a small batch. I wish I had a better answer but I just had to practice to be fast 😂. I have heard people say you can reheat it but I wouldn’t advise it as it could and probably would compromise the flavor. Practice makes almost perfect 🤭 Are you making a small or large batch?

    • @tm2bee
      @tm2bee Рік тому

      I've seen someone divide their batch, pour the first half from a silicone bowl and place the second half still in the pot onto a heated pancake griddle to slow the cooling process. I have not personally tried this so I can't attest to the success but this seemed like it was his standard practice. I imagine you'd still need to work quickly. I do plan on keeping my eyes peeled for a cheap griddle at the flea markets. I suppose any other small warming appliance would work. Just keep safety in mind if you have young helpers.

    • @howtocooktocope7558

      I have used 2 drams if I felt the flavor wasn’t strong enough for this size batch, so far that has only been one flavor. I use LorAnn Oils for that reason, their flavors are pretty potent. It wouldn’t hurt if you did though. 😊 I would only caution you if you are using hot cinnamon oil, that might hurt! 😱

    Have you got any advice on stopping it being too sticky when putting in packets? I made a small batch of lollies today and even after dusting them with icing sugar they still seems to make a mess. They’re for my friends wedding favours 😅

    • @howtocooktocope7558
      @howtocooktocope7558  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Helen! I experience this situation in high humidity, If I make hard candy/boiled sweets/lollies in summer I crank my air conditioning up because humidity is sugars nemesis. In the U.S. some lightly dust their candy in corn starch. Another reason for sticky candy is if it isn’t cooked long enough. I’m not sure where you are located however, if it’s humid I can just about bet that is your culprit. I have read that you can cook your candy for an additional 2 degrees higher to make up for the humidity outside. I have not tried this myself so I cannot vouch for it personally but wish you luck if you give it another whirl. 💕

      Those are some of my favorites! I add Apple to any baked apple dessert to kick up the flavor! Thank you for commenting ☺️

      I’m sorry you are having this issue. Are you using a candy thermometer? Typically that would be a result of not cooking long enough
