This video takes a look at how Crash Bandicoot 4 was changed for the Japanese version, or as it's known in Japan, Crash Bandicoot 4: Tondemo Maruchibāsu - tondemo meaning outrageous/unexpected and maruchibāsu meaning multiverse. (Note: I somehow said the game was called Tondemo "Universe" not "Multiverse" in both the voice and on-screen text. I'm sorry but I'll have to chalk this one up to big sleep deprivation etc. and my brain telling me one thing but my hands typing another and somehow not noticing!)

That dad was SUPER into the dance. He was great.
The idea was probably that he played as a kid, in the Japanese Crash Bandicoot Commercials lore.
I think ur supposed to find the dad cringy. But i think hes the best one in there i fact i say the mum is cringy XD
@@ray2dasherthedragon336 The random street grandma who decided to join in slayed me
@@TheNewJokerW lol
@@TheNewJokerW Ahahaha i never even noticed her but wow XD
Im actually happy to know crash has love over in japan as well as america that commercial put a huge smile on my face
On the remake's box crash does have five fingers, but he's holding his pinkie to show the number three.
Its barely there but it is there nonetheless
true dat
At the time I thought it looked like a baggy part of the glove, like in the Western version. And I also zoomed in really close on a high resolution image and the color looked like the glove's too. His fingers are also pretty large. I guess it's debatable, however. Or maybe I'm just being silly... In which case, I apologize.
@@CensoredGaming from looking through the comments most agree that he has five
It's weird though because the bent pinky is completely covered by the thumb which is awkward to say the least.
If Crash is added as a character in Smash Bros, I want that dance as one of his taunts.
if it was a victory animation and if was like the extended version in crash 3 japanese version
Crash, Spyro, Geno, Master Chief and Scorpion need to all be in Smash Bros.
Scorpion won't ever be put in because WB are one of those types of companies.
i think we can agree that crash victory theme should be the race finish theme from CTR
@@songohan3321 Ed Boon already gave Nintendo his blessing.. He just ready for Warner Bros. To give theirs..
Old lady randomly dancing in the commercial 😯✨ 8:59
7:22 I can relate to you Japanese Dad, that man's face is as happy as I am with Crash being Back! YEAH BOI!
Dang I started speaking Japanese and I don’t even know how to speak Japanese
The Yakuza is the same reason why there are so few people with tattoos in japan, and why there are basically no people in the media (including things like pro wrestling) that have tattoos.
Yup it's heavily associated with organized crime
Yakuza ruin things huh
@@BLVDKillz The stigma existed before Yakuza groups. Tattoos in old Japan were something done TO criminals to show their crimes rather than a manner of personal expression.
@@amimagus8051 oh so it's a criminal thing.
There are also establishments with strict "no tatoos" policies in the country. Even small, unnoticable ones can deny you entrance or service.
The dad in the comircial looks like he's having the time of his life and I'm happy for him
So glad when you upload!!!!! Hope you're doing alright!
I am Japanese.
Regarding the package design of Crash 4, the actual product version has four fingers after all.
Perhaps they unified the design of the crash.
The crash of 4 feels like a design that is also received in Japan.
I've always liked the design of every crash, whether it's a Japanese crash or an overseas crash^ _ ^
The western artwork is already more cute then the past covers. If anything we got a mix between of both
I was going this as well. I don't think he is as cute as the Japanese original, but he certainly does not have that 90's edge of the old American cover.
Change the box art to have 5 fingers, make a mascot costume that has 4.
Just an observation - Crash has five digits on the cover of the Japanese version of N Sane Trilogy, he’s covering one with his thumb and holding up three fingers to symbolise the trilogy :)
I love the little old lady doing the dance in the background of the commercial
I still think that Tawna, with that hair, looks like "Lesbian Commando".
I can't tell if the actor playing the father is just chewing the scenery, or if he was genuinely excited for the return of Crash.
Seriously, watching the new version of the old ad gave me the chills. It's literally the return of Crash just as we remembered it.
If this wasn't 2020, I would question a mascot showing up out of nowhere and it started dancing with everyone.
The expression on the Dad’s face when he sees Crash kills me every time.
7:22 - When Assassin's Creed Valhalla is announced, but Crash 4 is announced right after
Coco’s voice is drastically different from her English version. It’s cute and odd at the same time. xD
I remember when she had the same voice actress as Jimmy Neutron.
Video starts at 0:46
Crash dishonors their home by not taking off his shoes in the genkon.
love the fact that they hammer so much on him not having 4 fingers. yet in the commercial he actually does have 4 fingers which was something they made...
Bruh
@@Kimarnicweird isnt it? XD
If you look closely at the Japanese N-Sane Trilogy box, it looks like Crash does indeed have 5 fingers there; you just can't see his pinkie because, of course, it's curled behind his thumb as anyone does to show the number three on their hand, and the hand itself is tilted in a way that makes that fifth finger very difficult to see anyway.
4:17 Crash has got 5 fingers in the Japanese box art; the pinky is being held down by the thumb to hold 3 fingers up.
I remember you mentioned about the whole four fingers not allowed in Japan.
I cant believe I wasted my time analyzing the thumbnail and then I saw that the circle pointed to literally no changes
Classic click bait lmfao you should be used to it by now
One day, global releases will all be the same and they will all be uncensored and accurate to the artists' vision. That's the hope I need to hold on to.
The dad in that ad gave it 110%!
9:10 the Japanese Crash costume have 4 fingers despite all talk about "No 4-fingered Crash in Japan".
I remember I used to notice whenever someone has one less finger, but I never thought that was an issue in Japan.
I don’t get the four fingers thing and why is it so taboo. In fact, the Super Mario franchise has a lot of characters that have four fingers. I have a Japanese copy of Yoshi’s Crafted World and Yoshi still has four fingers on the box art. Granted, none of those characters that have four fingers are human, but so is Crash Bandicoot and the Modokuns from Oddword; so what gives?
It's more of a corporate "better safe than sorry" than a rule. Kinda like removing crude humor from things in America to make them more "family friendly" so you don't anger the Karens.
I swear if they add Crash Bandicoot to Smash they'd *better* include the Crash Dance as a taunt for *ALL* regions.
6:14 they all have 4 fingers in the game
Ohhh the hypocrisy 😂very naughty Japan lol
The grandma in the background at 8:58 joining in is the best part
4:17 he still has 5 fingers, you can just barely see the pinky sticking out under the thumb
The Japanese version of Crash is kinda like the early American version of Sonic
i never knew Crash was such a thing in Japan... :D having a dance and a theme song, how cute haha
also the fanily eating apples, i think wumpa were known simply as apples in the Japanese versions if I'm not mistaken, hence Crash hearing them bitd into apples and appearing at the window
Japan, Game has s#x, D3ath, and @lchohol: I sleep
Game has four fingers, Japan: Real shit?
God bless japanese ..giving us some of the weirdest..funniest..and scariest commercials
I noticed in the Japanese commercial they said the English word "four" in the game's title rather than one of the Japanese pronunciations.
Loan words are great like that. Extra convenient where your own word for the number has gone tapu on you.
One of the Japanese pronounciations of the Kanji for 4 (shi) also means death. Therefore the number 4 is considered an unlucky number, like 13 is an unlucky number in the West. 4 just happens to be a more common number than 13.
The Crash fur-suit at 6:41 got 4 fingers (the old one shown before had 5).
Gj keeping things consistent Japan.
That dad has been waiting his whole life for this
*They added a finger to crash because 4 means bad luck, duh.*
2:49 I gagged when I heard those three syllables.
It's about time Crash Bandicoot enters Smash Bros.
I can certainly appreciate the crash dance but of course now ad-studio in the west would ever go that route.
That middle aged Japanese man's face gets really intense during the thrusting part of the dance
He does have the extra finger in Crash Trilogy though. It's just under his thumb.
7:39 Take your shoes off.
7:28 Nightmare Fuel
I am very interested in crash bandicoot now
3:48 Mista got triggered.
Chimera ant : four fingers hands go burrrrrrrrrrr
But I see they didn't go so far to add additional fingers to the characters in-game as you can clearly see in the japanese dub clip.
It was literally a straight dub. They didn't even adjust the mouth movements when they easily could have.
Coco and Tawna sound adorns in japanese tho~
@@nobodyinparticular9640 Coco in particular is really cute
The japan release for the n-sane trilogy shows him with 5 fingers. The thumb is wrapped over the pinky.
Wow the dad in that commercial got a bit TOO into it.. lmfao
CADRASHU BANDICOOT?!
Ok, I'm going to give you a dislike this time, because the thumbnail was a clickbait.
The viewers may give you the benefit of the doubt, but you know you did it.
The circle and the arrow are not aimed to *Coco'* s fingers, so small and barely visible in the background (when *Crash'* s are literally in front of you), but to her butt.
That's cheap and if you belive in you'r video, you shouldn't resort to such low expedient.
You are reaching soooo high right now.
Love the commercial. Also, I didn't notice the fifth finger on the Japanese box art before (on this game, I mean), but after all it seems no significant change was made to the game, besides little things like Tawna calling the crystals "power stones" (because that's always how crystals were called in Japanese Crash games and material; in fact, wumpa fruits in Japan are just Apples).
They should put the crash dance and song into all versions of the game itself. It's one of the few defining characteristics the character has, lifts it out of the generic "zany!" crap it was originally
That was the single most insane commercial I have ever witnessed. It is straight up certifiable.
Man, I love that Japanese theme song, so zany and over the top. XD
I so surprised you never one of most obliviously changed in your clip.
Japan version officially call Wumpa fruit “Apple”.
In in JP them song are singing about Ringo (Apple).
god I wish I could just.... bite into an apple like that.
If you ever accidentally lop a finger off in a diy accident, you better take another off while you’re at it.
Wait, you actually called the N'sane trilogy a remake and not a remaster? So I'm not the only one who understands the difference?
Awesome Video
VPN is completely useless, PVP cat already explained how people can bypass VPN .
When the video thumbnail says one thing and ends up showing up from more games lol
That Dad first seeing Crash looked as excited as Goro Majima walking into Kazama Kiryu randomly in the street.. I err have the Yakuza series on my mind.
Glad your back bro, stay safe and hope your living arrangements is all good :)
I like the Japanese we’re probably not into using the old costume, so they just used the American costume, but they just gave a extra piece of Crash’s teeth to cover up the person’s face inside the suit.
Is it me or does it look like Crash was ready to throw some hands, if they refused to dance.
the old lady in the back dancing is great!!
Did the Japanese version of Crash 4 seriously have 5 fingers on the cover, but the in game cut scenes use 4 fingers again? So what is the point when in the actual game they all have 4 fingers 🤣 might as well just not bother.
that commercial at the end hurt my brain
That Japanese ad was very Japanese. I love it.
When that child grows up he's going to hate his parents for making him to do this advert... he will ever be dubbed the crash thruster boy
Finger thing was one reason I believed why Banjo could not get into Smash, and I noted no one mentioned this culture different among community, but guess what years later they just pulled it off, magic does exist lol.
That commercial ought to be a meme.
I never noticed the finger difference between the west and Japan... but now I wanna live in Japan, because removing a finger from cartoon characters is stupid.
Japan has so much respect for its citizens. Here, in California, USA, we’d tell the people to get the fuck off the street cause we’re filming a commercial.
IMO, I prefer Crash with 5 fingers, as opposed to 4....
It makes him look more badass.
no matter how much they paid, the dancer dad is underpaid
*I can't deal with the Tawna redesign, it just feels like they needed to do*
I am pretty sure that the Japanese commercial uses the costume from the American commercials, because you can see where the head would pop out of the costume
Mista is pissed
The crash badicoot in the commercial has 4 fingers!
so that is why Mista is afraid of no.4
3:38 PHENONEMOM
Does the Trilogy Japanesse Crash also have 5 fingers ?
yeah, it's folded under his thumb, this video erroneously states he still has 4
02:55 "Very controversial." That's why we live in such a hypersensitive world. "Implied, associated, taboo."
I don't pre-judge people. I don't make assumptions about appearances. I don't look for things to be offended about, and I don't judge someone based on what I think _might_ be true. That's only a few steps away from things like racism.
I have the Japanese version and US version I don’t see anything different it doesn’t even give me 2 trophies sets
I hear there’s buildings in Hong Kong that have neither a 4th floor due to the eastern taboo, nor a 13th floor due to the British influenced western taboo.
If you notice they retired old Japanese crash costume and made it the American one
So... if Crash got into smash bros he'd have 5 fingers
Man, Crash looks way better on the Japanese remake boxes.
Huh, I’d have thought Maruchibāsu was engrish for Multiverse...
as a japanese i dont care at all whether they have 3, or 4 or 5 fingers. I think people in charge of censorship is too focused on very small thing.
