I'd almost put money on that dude(I want to say he's a known comedian but I can't put a name to him?) being more involved in the ad than mere actor, like he might have been the choreographer who taught the crash dance to the others, maybe he's the director? Perhaps he's just a super fan giving his all? Crash is big over there. I respect him going all out regardless.
At the time I thought it looked like a baggy part of the glove, like in the Western version. And I also zoomed in really close on a high resolution image and the color looked like the glove's too. His fingers are also pretty large. I guess it's debatable, however. Or maybe I'm just being silly... In which case, I apologize.
The Yakuza is the same reason why there are so few people with tattoos in japan, and why there are basically no people in the media (including things like pro wrestling) that have tattoos.
@@BLVDKillz The stigma existed before Yakuza groups. Tattoos in old Japan were something done TO criminals to show their crimes rather than a manner of personal expression.
I am Japanese. Regarding the package design of Crash 4, the actual product version has four fingers after all. Perhaps they unified the design of the crash. The crash of 4 feels like a design that is also received in Japan. I've always liked the design of every crash, whether it's a Japanese crash or an overseas crash^ _ ^
I was going this as well. I don't think he is as cute as the Japanese original, but he certainly does not have that 90's edge of the old American cover.
US: Make sure you put the different power-ups in the commercial. And show them you can play as different characters this time. And make sure that you use some of the new music we made for the game. Oh and we should also ... Japan: Just put some guy in a suit & make him do the bandicoot dance with a family.
4:00 Of course as a result of "western imperialism" the number 13 is also missing from elevators and such. Apparently there's other taboo numbers as well but most of them involve 4 being homonymous with death like how maternity wards won't have 43 due to it being homonymous with "stillbirth". Also today I learned that apparently yakuza like putting "4444" on their license plates.
Just an observation - Crash has five digits on the cover of the Japanese version of N Sane Trilogy, he’s covering one with his thumb and holding up three fingers to symbolise the trilogy :)
One day, global releases will all be the same and they will all be uncensored and accurate to the artists' vision. That's the hope I need to hold on to. The dad in that ad gave it 110%!
i never knew Crash was such a thing in Japan... :D having a dance and a theme song, how cute haha also the fanily eating apples, i think wumpa were known simply as apples in the Japanese versions if I'm not mistaken, hence Crash hearing them bitd into apples and appearing at the window
If you look closely at the Japanese N-Sane Trilogy box, it looks like Crash does indeed have 5 fingers there; you just can't see his pinkie because, of course, it's curled behind his thumb as anyone does to show the number three on their hand, and the hand itself is tilted in a way that makes that fifth finger very difficult to see anyway.
love the fact that they hammer so much on him not having 4 fingers. yet in the commercial he actually does have 4 fingers which was something they made...
I think in the art for the trilogy remake he does have 5 fingers, but his pinky is behind his thumb (you can kind of see the tip of it behind the thumb, and the shape of the palm makes it seem like there is a pinky there).
I don’t get the four fingers thing and why is it so taboo. In fact, the Super Mario franchise has a lot of characters that have four fingers. I have a Japanese copy of Yoshi’s Crafted World and Yoshi still has four fingers on the box art. Granted, none of those characters that have four fingers are human, but so is Crash Bandicoot and the Modokuns from Oddword; so what gives?
It's more of a corporate "better safe than sorry" than a rule. Kinda like removing crude humor from things in America to make them more "family friendly" so you don't anger the Karens.
Love the commercial. Also, I didn't notice the fifth finger on the Japanese box art before (on this game, I mean), but after all it seems no significant change was made to the game, besides little things like Tawna calling the crystals "power stones" (because that's always how crystals were called in Japanese Crash games and material; in fact, wumpa fruits in Japan are just Apples).
Did the Japanese version of Crash 4 seriously have 5 fingers on the cover, but the in game cut scenes use 4 fingers again? So what is the point when in the actual game they all have 4 fingers 🤣 might as well just not bother.
I so surprised you never one of most obliviously changed in your clip. Japan version officially call Wumpa fruit “Apple”. In in JP them song are singing about Ringo (Apple).
One of the Japanese pronounciations of the Kanji for 4 (shi) also means death. Therefore the number 4 is considered an unlucky number, like 13 is an unlucky number in the West. 4 just happens to be a more common number than 13.

They should put the crash dance and song into all versions of the game itself. It's one of the few defining characteristics the character has, lifts it out of the generic "zany!" crap it was originally
That dad was SUPER into the dance. He was great.
The idea was probably that he played as a kid, in the Japanese Crash Bandicoot Commercials lore.

I wonder what the guy in the crashs suit facial expression is though
Im actually happy to know crash has love over in japan as well as america that commercial put a huge smile on my face
Whoever played the dad in that commercial was having way more fun than the other two actors
If Crash is added as a character in Smash Bros, I want that dance as one of his taunts.
if it was a victory animation and if was like the extended version in crash 3 japanese version
Crash, Spyro, Geno, Master Chief and Scorpion need to all be in Smash Bros.
Scorpion won't ever be put in because WB are one of those types of companies.
