Katie you are amazing. Your tenacity and strength are remarkable. You take on anything and excel at it all. Your garden and menagerie are just wonderful. Kudos girl you rock. My mom turned 90 last year but no jive involved. Really happy how this is all coming together for you. What a great team, respect ✊
best toilet ever. We used one for five years in our old place 2 adults and 2 kids, emptied it about once a month, no smell was all, and a quiet fan. Only thing I would add is make sure you can access the urine pipe as they can and do clog up with urine crystals. Respect from NZ.
@ we had a couple of compost heaps, after a year of filling we would close it go a year (compost worms did a great job) then this rich compost went on our fruit trees. We would only get about 3 or 4 wheel barrow loads after a year. Surprising how little you end up with.
You remind me of myself when I was your age! Please be safe don’t hurt your back like I did lifting things for years instead of waiting for help! Blessings, Laura
Great video as always hon.You were greatly missed at the party. Thanks for staying home so Greg could come out. It was appreciated so much. We all love you to the moon and back. Your place is really coming together.
Look for reflective window tint for your upstairs sliding doors. It’s removable. And will block the intense heat. Awesome job on the house!!! Love that you allow us to see your adventure together
Alternative might be P-Lam, laminate you glue on with contact cement. I have done it with both wood veneer and laminate finishings. For the vanity. It requires some careful measuring, slight sanding to get sharp edges rounded, but it is waterproof and lasts through cleaning. Just an idea if that bugs you too much.
Katie you are an incredible woman !! Maybe extraordinary would be even a better word to describe you🤔🤔. I wish the very best for you and Greg, and may God keep you blessed and safe 🙏🙏 !!!
The place is looking so very comfy and a shining view through the windows, very frightened and a beautiful view of the surrounding area with it many colors, season reflections ... I love it because it’s what love in my space in our house as well...nature provides me the piece and comfort with the fresh air ... 💫🤗🥰
It is enjoyable seeing the progress being made with each video posted. The both of you are a real inspiration to people who want to do things a little different than conventional living. Enjoy the experience. Peace.
Congrats on the move in! Back in the day they had porcelain covered steel chamber pots with a lid! They were emptied daily! Well, technology eh! You guys get lots of rain. In time, you can perhaps make that work for you! Shallow, dug or drilled wells are at 40feet unless you are sitting on a rock. Winter runoff or trickling springs can be saved in a cistern! Life has lots of Choices and planning! Ron PTL USA just below B.C and far away from D.C.
Long time ago when I was looking at composting toilets I liked the propane 1 because alls you had to deal with was out out a tray of ashes but you could get it here in Canada Bc so went with a big 1 you added peat moss and lime to tank was under the floor tolet was ontop it turned by hand it had a barrel inside the tank you used a RV toilet U got it back in around year 2000 it had a water line you flushed it just like a reg tolet empty it around every 3 -4 months
I know this is too late by now, but FYI. Before you install the sink, install the faucet and drain first, it is so much easier than getting under the cabinet to do it. It will save your back, I know, I was a plumber for 20 years.
I have reached out to the company and they areamazing. Unfortunately they can't ship to USA but they are accommodating and helped me find someone locally.
Try wiping the vanity down with a TSP mixture. just go to the paint section and tell someone you need some TSP. It will be in a crystal form, and you just add some water. It will take off the gloss on a painted item and then just simply repaint. Also, if you are repainting a wall in your home and it has a semi-gloss or gloss paint or if the walls are a dirty, then wipe them down with the TSP solution and let dry, then paint.
You need a couple of vents in the roof or else where in your bedroom upstairs to get the heat out of your room..Heat rises and in the winter time your bedroom upstairs is going to be hotter..ceiling fans is what you need too
@@ThisOffGridLife if it's still getting too hot 🔥 up in your up stairs bedroom, there is more you can do to get the heat out..I'm very sure that you will figure out..
Hi Katie and Greg, a couple of years ago you inspired me by showing the Humanure Handbook written by Joe Jenkins in one of your videos. I bought it and it was life changing for me :). The last couple of years I've use the compost toilet he describes - with all your business in one bucket, without separating it, and with sawdust on top of it. I love it. I wonder why you never decided to just use one bucket, without separating the urine, as Joe Jenkins suggests, since that is the way to not make it smell (separating the urine causes more smell - I also used the privy, so I know what I'm talking about ;)).
You kids handled the subject very well as its difficult to say and not say some things that are well "awkward" in the least. We have a company that delivers great water up to a thousand gallons for a hundred dollars and just minimum cost per thousand gallon extra. Many here live right near a river yet no water for the home can be found on the property's. I much prefer just using my underground tank that holds ten thousand gallons... a solid rock tank that had to be drilled for the drain to do any cleaning. I get more than enough water from rain alone to keep full or at least near it. Great filters make it simple. Even the septic is solid rock with a cement cap for the cover an its hookup's. Grandma makes me look old as her feet are still lively
It may be too late now but on many of those cabinets you can flip the door and put it on the other side. That would make it open to the wall instead of opening into the room which might make it easier to access things inside it.
They have a bed frame at Walmart for $100 I got that can be for Queen even king if you ever decide to change it, I got that is awesome. It’s metal black matte but perfect for just a mattress hun 🤷🏻♀️🫶🏻
Great job Katie. You seem fearless at all the things you do. Say, I must have missed the episode about what you will be doing for showering. Did you already say something about your plans?
There's alot to be said for composting toilets, people have used outhouses and buckets for years with little or no trouble. Scarcity of resources is a determining factor for most, such as ya'll, just don't have water to waste. More and more we rely on "civilized" methods, and our natural resources are depleted, what will we do...Love ya'll ❤️
It’s been great. Only issue is the pee tube being small and it tends to build up. We bought a long wire handle brush and cut the bristles to fit in the tube. Not a nice job 😂
21:54 in video is that an AC unit in the window in the back ground? / you go girl, that is the only way I can sleep at night is in an airconditioned bedroom / I always kept a small unit to run off generator during hurricanes so I could sleep at night
People will always asked why your tomato have grown so huge and red or lettuce so huge and green. It's all about the composting, chickens, goats, cats etc.
Young lady, you messed up. You never mentioned the bum sprayer In Thailand we have the bum gun. A hand sprayer that affixes to the inlet and on the toilet and has a bracket on the wall as a holder. When you are done you just reach back and grab the bum gun and clean up. Women love it because you can use it on two different places. It is easy clean healthier and you don't have to buy toilet paper. I know you will enjoy that feature. It may take a cou[ple of times to get used to it but when you do you will never want to use TP again.
We had a tushy on our diy composting toilet. We have an older video on the set up for that. We haven't set one up on this toilet but we'll be doing the gun bidet as we can't modify this toilet like the diy one
Katie, have you considered using Fusion mineral paint, or chalk paint? We are planning to use the Fusion mineral paint on our bathroom vanity soon, and have had excellent results using chalk paint in the past..
So I just got a good look at your bathroom for the first time and I have a question lol where is the shower/bathtub? Not unless you have another bathroom in the house I haven't seen yet oh and btw the house is beautiful
You should have wiped your cabinet with a solvent first to clean off any waxes and surface coatings. Then light scuff with a scuff pad, then painted with high quality spray paint.

The downsides of this incinerating toilet are high cost, use of power, and buying liners. Composting one seems a better solution
