How will Africa change when these so called western countries have deliberately creat global institutions that are aimed at keeping Africa poor. Yes our leaders might have a part to play but global economic/financial system in their current state do not favour Africa developing.for example? Why re most African countries still speaking colonial languages despite gaining independence?
Some of them are really brainwashed to think that as long as they get to Europe, all their problems will be fixed. There is actually not a lot of thinking with those ones. I met many such people in Iraq. The escapism drove everything in their lives.
@linthexplorer814 The changes now need to start from the people now, from bottom to top, instead of the other way around. Had i known i would have never embarked on this deadly journey despite surviving. I left my Job( teacher) and came to Spain thinking life will easy here but thats not the case. It's has been 1 year since I came and still now am not working. We are in a refugee camp with bad living conditions but am grateful as I survive. As a Kenyan this year we have shown the world instead of running away from your problems stay back and flight for wat you want from your government and i hope its high time all Africans consider the same for the benefit of our coming generations.
we did it in senegal this year before you and with the manner there were riot her. we ousted former president with his corrupt administration and elected a young honnest president things will change
As South Africans, we voted out a 30-year government out of power. Many Africans mocked us and said we voted for Apartheid even though the DA ( a white majority party only got 20 votes, same as the last 3 elections, but the ANC fell from 67 to 40. We have had 24 hours of electricity since the elections, and we have seen many politicians being jailed for Corruption. Illegal Pakistani and Bangladeshi shops have been closed for selling expired food to school kids, only this year 8 children died. We are called Xenophobic for standing up against lawless immigrants. Rather than then risk dying at sea just to go wash and change the diapers of sick old people in Europe or pick fruit.
Apparently West Africans have been bombarded with the 'beauty' and 'easy life' in Europe for decades and have fallen for it badly. Kudos to the Kenyans for paving the way,the battle isn't won yet but there's hope things will change for the better.
I recently moved to Valencia Spain and have met two guys who took that journey. One from Senegal and one is from Gambia. They showed me video on their phone. I can say, while they are thankful to have survived the journey, life is still very difficult for them here in Valencia, as they don't have the proper papers to obtain work legally. They do have shelter in a church that works with the immigrants, and they attend spanish language classes. I pray for them.
All of these countries need people to tell them the truth. Life in Europe with no work visa, no skill and no education is not going to look much different than the home country. Especially with automation of entry level jobs
Of course it looks different! You get a mobile phone for free... and pampering on the shoulders of the inlanders. They know it. Just you seem to be ignorant about that.
"You know my story, if you meet one of my children's in the future be kind to them". This has really heat me hard😢😢. Man is just desperate to survive 😢😢😢😢😢
Nothing is more painful than to witness our brothers struggle like this because of other people decisions. Even striving economy like South Africa we're still facing so much challenges. Sometimes the truth is really not the West or Europe but our brothers who are leaders make these careless decisions for the sake of their stomachs. Its a pain. Its a pain
I was in the Chateau Rouge neighborhood of Paris recently and saw many West African youths idling around or illegally selling boiled corn in the streets, running away when the police showed up.
@@Joe-tr2vkit’s not the same though. I guess the “hope” is that one day they will “make it”. We have so many illegal migrants arriving in the uk from France and we cannot stop these boats, not the French nor the British, two military powers, probably the best militaries in Europe. Maybe our governments want the illegal migrants?? But at the end of the day they might get that nice house or job and bring their families over and eventually live that normal life they seek, that’s their goal. In their desperate village in Africa (and certainly all of Africa is NOT a desperate village!!!) that “hope” is lost. But I think it’s all going to lead to mass unrest within the next 10 years.
This deal that Senegal made with the EU and the Chinese again fishing in their waters. It’s just heartbreaking and sad because they are literally depriving the local fisherman of any chance of making a better life for themselves. 💔💔
Absolutely. I know a lot of Senegalese in the south and their livelihood has been decimated by Chinese fishing in their waters and also Europe taking all the small fish/ocean food on which larger fish depend, to feed our farmed salmon.
yes a fricans and europeans will never get along , one side always has to dominate ...think about who is forcing different races to Live together , what the consequences are and who ultimately profits from the ensuing turmoils .
Absolutely. Its heartbreaking to say the least. And the average European or Chinese in a 5 star restaurant has no idea how many livelihoods were brought to their knees just for them to nibble part of the fish and throw the rest in the bin. In essence, 'not yet uhuru' 😿
As a Kenyan I don’t understand why the Senegalese are running away from their country and embarking on such dangerous journeys when Senegal is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa! They also have a good government system too! They have fought for a better government and now the best thing they can do is stay and make Senegal the country of their dreams!
That's the problem with our fellow brothers and sisters. They don't realise that every place has opportunities not just in europe but africa as well. Most people from my country are trying to find opportunities and I would rather migrate to a better african nation than running away illegally.
Senegalese here and worked with Kenyans a Remote job for 3 years. Let me tell you that the reality on the ground is very different almost dystopian. Those crazy figures of growth are nothing more but stats of projected growth and are solely focused in the Capital city Dakar Plateau and surrounding bougie neighborhoods of Dakar which is the only advanced region of the country. All administrative offices, companies and major opportunities are concentrated there alone. In comparison you’d have something like the Nice part of Nairobi versus inland Kenya. Opportunity exists everywhere but when tourists come and buy beach front properties and then rent them on Airbnb and online platforms and yet cash in all of the profits themselves, the hotel industry ended up crashing, not to talk about Chinese and European boats siphoning fish off of our seas with industrial size boats and equipments in comparison to small wooden boats the same used to go to Europe. Oh and the Indians competing with farmers and small real estate bureaus with their thousands of allocated acres of land that we the people could never have access to even if it’s a small piece of land the straining processes and fees is unbearable. Another thing is majority of businesses that hire are small and struggle to sign clients so hiring ain’t in the budget, everybody hangs on nails and teeth to their jobs because if you loose it then you’re in deep trouble especially with Dakar being the second most expensive city to live in west Africa. All this doesn’t justify mass immigration but also the peer pressure of society and families on men making them feel worthless and borderline insulting them daily is what truly pushes them. Again you can work the land instead of
Economic growth does not necessarily mean higher quality of life if that wealth is not shared among the people or not used adequately to develop the country you can have a gdp per capita of 17k but still have many people struggling (equatorial Guinea in 2008) if that money is kept in offshore accounts instead of development
Indeed just keep quiet if you can cope where you are. No one can easily leave their home, wife, children and family if they able to cope. So please be sober while expressing your opinion
I am not trying to be unkind, but how is Spain(or Europe in general), supposed to absorb hundreds of thousands (millions?)of unskilled migrants? Also, I’ve never understood why the people who can least afford it, have the most kids. Children are indeed a blessing, but why have so many when you can’t take care of them?
Poverty… has a pervasive psychosocial effect on people. And it often presents in ways that make others who are well of think they would do profoundly better than those they judge. I have often thought it a great idea that in societies where great inequality presents, it should be government sanction that the wealthy should be taxed quite heavily. And not only that, but they have to be “adopted” by a family that is below the poverty line for every fourth month for at least four years. They can not take with them anything, but will have to survive on what their adoptive family manages to scrape together in that month. I tell you right now… poverty will be solved way faster if that were decreed. Billionaire will develop real empathy, not of the tax exemption kind they always highlight to us.
How do you illegally cross into Europe or the States with no skill no education,no nothing and expect welcoming hands and a prosperous life out there, even as an African I am wondering.
My dear, some of our brothers and sisters in the West of Africa think differently when it comes to the West. I have met many here Germany who used that route but even listening to their reasoning, you really wonder what happens on the other side of the continent.
Don't blame them, even if they're are not performing well their duties as leaders, doesn't mean they have to take this risk, There are a lot of people in the same country having the same problems but trying to solve it in the same country
I'm from the Canary Islands. I left in 1994. The country has gone to hell. It was a hole when I lived there. There is no way I would go back. There were so many sub Saharan Africans living there when I left. I can only imagine how much that has increased since then.
There are so many news reports of migrants taking this arduous journey. Watching Mahommed's planning and journey humanizes the risks many are taking in pursuit of a better life. The risks don't seem to deter any possibilities of a better future. Heartbreaking 😢
These Stories make me Sad.. yet its the honest truth... Africa is the Richest continent on earth yet its people suffer the most.. God give is us grace and empower our leaders to over come the corruption that has empoverished our people.
Why leave your ancestors land if it's at peace. The journey of the seas and desert is deadly and to make it worse is after you arrive in Europe it's not heaven.
Senegal is among the most peaceful countries in Africa, surprisingly the youth have lost hope and given up to the extent of scrimping and saving their hard-earned money to subject themselves into such a risky endeavor. Seems so strange to me as African.
No food but producing 10-12 children per african woman. Its not a problem of corruption and political situations. It's the issue of population explosion 💣 💥 which all are avoided to discuss.
Gee I wonder what Western Religion which Colonized all African Countries brainwashed the local People that ALL Birth Control is a “SIN” ? Gee, I wonder.. Even if many did not convert to Catholicism the shaming was internalized by many. Also, ◻️Brits and Americans who are in the cycle of poverty also have dozens of children which makes escaping the difficult cycle of generational poverty difficult, but you choose to ignore that fact don’t you since they are ◻️? Good job exposing your ⬜️-Supremacy views👎
In Africa its only South African who will rather suffer and fight in their own country that's what our previous leadership taught us, running from your problems will never be a solution
Nonsense, i know many South Africans here in Sweden and there are many of you elsewhere in places like England, Australia and New Zealand. Just because you took a flight and not a boat does not make it different. Thats the problem with you guys. You think that you are better than everyone else. Meanwhile you are a cesspit of xenophobia and voilence
So the southafricans in the Arab countries are fighting for their country from the gulf region 😂😂😂, your people are out here struggling for a living so stop acting like you're made of steel
Stay home and vote wisely! Stop Voting for 80 year olds who have no interests of developing the country only their pockets! Start with bottom guy and to the top! Power to ppl not individuals! Ask EU and western countries to invest with profitable returns not leech onto your resources!
For me apart from opportunities its just a mentality. If you can afford 1000 USD for the journey, you can use that money to start even a small business. West Africans have advanced that mentality too far. Here in East Africa like Kenya things are tough but we still work hard locally to better the situation and there is nobody who is always striving to risk their lives in such ways.
I moved to Palma 3,5 years ago from holland and noticed that there are many senegalese here, most are street sellers and very friendly. Earlier this year I went travelling to Senegal and spoke with several people and all they had in common was the dream to go to Europe because of the lack of opporunities and work in their own country, they are economic refugees because Senegal is a safe and for African terms a stable country. Here I noticed as well that the people are known to be very friendly (teranga) and their cuisine is also a must try. Compared to other immigrants or 3rd generation from immigrant families, the senegalese are definitely more friendly and hard working, I got the feeling that not much of them end up in criminal activities (unless you count street selling as part of it). They are also good in languages, all senegalese I met here in Palma speak spanish at a decent level, good people
The poverty, hopelessness and desperation these fellow human beings face is heartbreakingly sad. My heart goes out to them! Very nice documentary, thanks for showing us that.
What I find even more heartbreaking are the Africans who spread lies about life in Europe. They are the criminal human traffickers, but also the fellow Africans who live in Europe. They come home on holidays with their stories about their fantastic lives in Europe, while in the Parisian banlieues they share a dirty room with four others, trying to earn their money by selling plastic souvenirs of Eiffel Towers in the city centre. Poverty exist everywhere in the world, including Senegal. But in Senegal there's no famine or war. In fact, there are enough jobs available, for example in agriculture and in sewing workshops. Changing jobs is always difficult, especially in cultures where knowledge of a trade is passed on from "father to son" and "mother to daughter". No matter what they are going through, the solution is not to get on a boat for a perilous crossing to "Eldorado".
Thank god Muhammad arrived back to Senegal safely. Watching this I had tears in my eyes, parts of this was filmed right here in my neighborhood in saly. We have lost so many of the people of Senegal to the open waters. I pray that we find a permanent solution for more jobs for the young people of Senegal. May Allah protect them all the ones we lost may Allah have mercy on their souls, forgive them for all short comings and grant them the highest form of Jannah 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
i feel the trauma for their families when they heard that they were lost, disappeared, drowned in the ocean, it is very painful. on the other hand, it is a hope and a risk that they take to improve their lives and perhaps the lives of their families , its a sorrow, it is very sad but sometiemes inevitable. opportunities should be created localy to avoid those tragedies.
Excellent report 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 I can only imagine how hard it is to reserve judgement for people with despair and a dystopian outlook on life. The mirages of immigration lived out on a couple of weeks of vacation had fueled the urge for young Africans to leave in seek of better living opportunities and now with social media and the internet it can only get worse. 😢
Dor thoses of you who survived, tell your friends and love ones back home never to try it,abroad is not worth it.Stay home amd work hard to make your life better.
Thank you. What an amazingly brave man Mohamed is. ❤ Don’t be discouraged. The love for your family and the will to do better for them is beautiful. ❤❤❤
Its painful to realise that very powerful nations with much higher GDP per capita would decide to enter into fishing arrangements with nations whose livelihoods solely depend on their God-given waters. Which other industry should they turn to then? The same powers that be chair the so-called sustainability summits year on year. The causes and effects of migration are truly far reaching and it breaks my heart to listen to these lived experiences. Thank you for the documentary, we learn everyday.
Thank you, but this film really made me sick. The drama of the illegal boats to Europe is almost glorified here, while the reporter indicates that he has returned to Senegal to teach people not to leave. I don't see him telling anyone; Dude, don't go, it's not Walhalla there. But he's there with some smiling fellow Africans on the Canary Islands selling fake sunglasses on the streets. I don't see any images of how and where these people live there. I also see him talking to a mother in Senegal, whose 17-year-old daughter left without her knowledge. How does a teenager get so much money to be able to leave without help? Mohammed, interviewed in this film, also had to pay a large amount for the crossing. He had a job and his own vegetable garden, but said that was not enough. Still, he was able to save the money for the crossing. I think that if the Spanish, and the others, like China, would stop empty fishing The West African waters, fewer fishermen would leave. Until then, there is enough work and opportunities for everyone to make a better life. Don't go anywhere, Africa has everything!
As Americans we get so mad when we hear of more migrants coming in, but we would be the first ones to migrate if we had the trouble of other countries. God bless you poor suffering souls and you all deserve a wonderful life. I wish u all the very best.
It's so sad to hear all the young people here in Morocco talk about leaving or have tried. Some also spend thousands trying to go to a western country. I know the conditions are not easy, but what if all that money were invested on sustainable projects so that people could thrive in their home country? Governments matching those funds would be super helpful too! Climate change is making all of this stuff even more difficult though. There is a water crisis here in Morocco (and other nations). But just the risk of life and what it does emotionally to families is not worth it. Humans are so intelligent. I think if communities can work together, they can find solutions, even if their government cannot or will not help them 🙏🌍
In Africa it's deadly water, in South America its the deadly Cartel forest route. Anyway it's a risk not worth taking and you are more likely to die than reaching the dream land. Just don't do it. And China, anytime you are hearing about a country milking another country resources in the 21st Century or being a wicked loan shark just leave it for them, thats what they do best
Seeing him buy that package of water, one can only imagine how many more of the migrants would have the same weight of water package coupled with the human body weight of each migrant on a boat no one knows what capacity it can conveniently carry on rough seas.
I’m devastated by this documentary. I am bi racial and my African is Mali predominantly and some Senegal , Nigerian. I was lucky enough to be born here my ancestors born here. I was sobbing basically the whole time. Bless all Africans on this journey.
Here's some news nobody here is talking about. Africans go to Europe and they can't work the first few years because of language issues and so on. They are raising taxes everywhere in Western Europe. Europeans are finding it harder and harder to find social housing because there are so many migrants also waiting in line. European citizens are paying for all this, and they're tired of it. Yes, life in Africa is hard, and everybody feels for you, but it shouldn't be some poor German person's responsibility to pay for your family's apartment and income.
If you stop exploiting Africa to maintain your standard of living you wouldn't want have this problem. You think Africans want to leave Thier families behind to go and live with Europeans. No they have no choice because European states and corporations are still exploiting the African continent and paying off greedy, unpatriotic and corrupt African leaders and bureaucrats. If you want to address the issue let's approach it from all the angles. There's no singular cause it's a plethora of things.
Do you really think africans arent working for years when they come, and do you really think that their presence is whats raising taxes (btw since when have tax raises been a problem here), nah man its our own governments fault not theirs
Had Europe not exploited Africa and its people then maybe Africa would be a better place. Europeans came on boats and made our lives living hell now we’ll be their problem too. It’s a consequence of their actions
Some people will tell you that stop stealing our resources because they deflect from the fact that africans are responsible for allowing this to happen. They can be hateful!
No life is pushing you because it is the way you have lived for hundreds of years, ut is technology when you see the life over the ocean and you want to experience it.
Life???naaaa if it was jus life u wouldn’t ONLY pick countries that give handouts….Trump will be in office sooner than later & they ALLLLL goin back!God Bless 🇺🇸
Why they never put up that money and buy a proper boat...by the way freedom from poverty is in our heads not in Europe... Africa need to start thinking hard.
This is heartbreaking. Poverty, daily struggle hopelessness and desperation are the leading factors behind this arduous journey in the Atlantic Ocean and many are those that perished and never made it to their destination. To some, it’s familial or social pressure. Getting encouraged by your loved one to embark on that journey just because the neighbor son/daughter did it built a house. Corruption could not be ignored. Our leaders are the number ones to point fingers at. We need to educate our youth, give them opportunities to succeed in our homeland to help combat this problem.
I think life has been fortunate to Mouhamed because he escaped death several times. I wish he'd see how he can make a life with his family in Senegal. Life is so tough for them and I empathise with them. A few years ago a strange boat came in our waters in the Southern Caribbean. There were bodies on it. After hearing this it could be they missed the Canary Is. and it drifted. So sad. I wish life will be better for my people in Africa.
As a fellow Senegalese/Gambian I’m so disheartened watching this, may Allah protect all that have went out to sea!! May the ones behind realise this is not worth it as a person who lives in uk I can say it’s not a bed of roses at all things are hard stay in your home study, work, learn skills and crafts, train your youth and make it in to a better country it will be better beneficial for the future generations 💕💕
It is imposable for them to understand that countries are sending immigrant home even Sweden is talking about giving immigrant $ 34.000.00 to go back wherever they came from and you want to get on a boat or raff and risk your life in 2024 make it make sense. Sir it would be a better education if you would setup T.V.s and show them how these countries are living and don't have enough for their own people let alone migrants and ask them what type of skills do they even have before risking your life and another big problem always talking about taking care of someone who should have been taking care of you.
African government and the UNITED NATIONS must intervene about this unusual migration. African people are dying because of accidents during migration route. This is inhuman.
You notice with all these migrations;they usually yearn for countries that either continue to extract resources from the continent or once did. It also doesn’t help if we add more stress to ourselves by mismanaging our resources.
@@andybarr6751That’s a broad question, but Spain has a long history with Africa from colonialism to the involvement of slavery to the Americas ie. Spanish Guinea now known as Equatorial Guinea. In reference to Italy,I urge you to study Italian East Africa(colonialism) plus Libya(Al-Mukhtar). And how can I forget Malindi in Kenya, what are Italians doing there-some Italians live there just like some Spaniards live in Ceuta and the likes of Melilla.
God remember Africa, how can we be open to slavery yet our great fathers fought to their last breath and resisted, now we the grand children are running to it!
Você acha que é simples assim? Até hoje a França, Reino Unido e outros países apoiam ditaduras e guerras africanas, mas a culpa é exclusivamente do africano médio né? Me poupe! Se os europeus não fossem tão perversos isso literalmente nunca teria acontecido.

The immense relief I felt when Muhammed made it back to Senegal alive. Phew!
I was in the Chateau Rouge neighborhood of Paris recently and saw many West African youths idling around or illegally selling boiled corn in the streets, running away when the police showed up.
They are better off staying home or going to another African country
Something that they could have done in Africa without getting chased by the police.
RIP Paris. Destroyed by filthy stinky African

If you don’t understand keep quiet ,
Indeed just keep quiet if you can cope where you are. No one can easily leave their home, wife, children and family if they able to cope. So please be sober while expressing your opinion
Thanks for the documentary bbc Africa
I am not trying to be unkind, but how is Spain(or Europe in general), supposed to absorb hundreds of thousands (millions?)of unskilled migrants?
Also, I’ve never understood why the people who can least afford it, have the most kids. Children are indeed a blessing, but why have so many when you can’t take care of them?
Lack of family planning and sex education.
These are Africans not Europeans!!!
Less family is affecting western world they need more migrants to build their economy
not only that since when is Senegal at war lmao
I wonder what an embarrassment

Why leave your ancestors land if it's at peace. The journey of the seas and desert is deadly and to make it worse is after you arrive in Europe it's not heaven.
Senegal is among the most peaceful countries in Africa, surprisingly the youth have lost hope and given up to the extent of scrimping and saving their hard-earned money to subject themselves into such a risky endeavor. Seems so strange to me as African.
No food but producing 10-12 children per african woman. Its not a problem of corruption and political situations. It's the issue of population explosion 💣 💥 which all are avoided to discuss.

Actually that's the reality just stay and try because this is a big risk
Why don’t they go to neighboring countries???I can list the reasons why
Very sad, I didn’t know this was still going on. I pray for the Africans, I wish the continent was better so this wouldn’t happen.

i feel the trauma for their families when they heard that they were lost, disappeared, drowned in the ocean, it is very painful. on the other hand, it is a hope and a risk that they take to improve their lives and perhaps the lives of their families , its a sorrow, it is very sad but sometiemes inevitable. opportunities should be created localy to avoid those tragedies.

Amen

Thank you for this excellent documentary! Mame you are amazing, may God protect and bless you in all you do 💚
In Africa it's deadly water, in South America its the deadly Cartel forest route. Anyway it's a risk not worth taking and you are more likely to die than reaching the dream land. Just don't do it.
And China, anytime you are hearing about a country milking another country resources in the 21st Century or being a wicked loan shark just leave it for them, thats what they do best
Won't be dream land much longer either, getting worse and worse and quality of living is getting worse every year.
Seeing him buy that package of water, one can only imagine how many more of the migrants would have the same weight of water package coupled with the human body weight of each migrant on a boat no one knows what capacity it can conveniently carry on rough seas.
Why isnt the Govt investing in tourism? Amazing beaches and country. I lived in West Africa years ago and the Senegalese lovely people.

💯
