The background in the video was some of the nicest I've ever seen. Perhaps it was the flat, overcast lighting but it was beautiful.

Colors in the video where just gorgeous.
The visual quality of this video is really, really pleasing to the eye. I wasn't even consciously looking to evaluate this, but my brain noticed it very clearly nonetheless.

Honestly a bit curious how Jordan deals with rigging when every week shooting with a different, often unreleased, camera. There are no custom cages available, these cameras have differing audio/video preamp quality, lenses of varying ability to gear/focus, and yet he seems to pull it off incredibly well. Bravo Jordan!
This is by far the best looking video you’ve shot. Color, lighting, etc., is incredible.

t Lim Well, no. Not really. Rolls Royce cars are a superfluous, luxury item. Leica cameras have always been serious tools for professionals who actually need their qualities to make a living.

@@artysanmobile the Rolls analogy is accurate. You may think that Leica has a lot more function for it's form but the Rolls gets you from point A to B as well. Just like the Leica takes photos. But the prices they command are not competitive for the features they have. Panasonic, Sony and Fuji all have better technology right now with Fuji even looking better, subjectively to my eyes.
@@reldies5364 Theres nothing in the market like an Q2 for exemple, i myself use a X100f for photojournalism when i need to be light, and i honestly love that camera, but if i had the money i would go for the Q.
It’s a bit jaw-dropping how sharp and clear the video here is - particularly during Jordan’s section. I honestly didn’t expect the Leica glass to be so clearly a cut above.
Some really beautifully rendered video here. Seems like a big jump in image quality from the very good Panasonic Micro Four Thirds picture that I’m used to seeing here. Is it the glass, camera, both? I’d be interested in a follow up on a final review going more in depth on the video picture.
That is many tens of thousands of euros worth of cine lens. A different league to AF lenses.

It's almost completely the lens that's higher quality that a lot of professional film studios.

I guess all done on a cine lens , the C Series Summilux. A pro cine lens. Not exactly a fair comparison with stuff shot with regular photographic lenses! Still, it was nice to see.

Leica's just 'are'. I have been pro for 30 yrs and own and use a Fujifilm GFX50s and its probably the best camera I have ever used, its all I need...and yet....Leica..... its a certain something. I don't know. Restrained? Reserved? A bit like Rolls Royce when they would quote their power figures as 'sufficient' as no-one would dare to be be so vulgar as to ask....I suppose. I would imagine that also like RR - if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it Sir/Madam - Nice review - keep 'em coming
I finally understand why we buy Leica . Its a kind of affirmative action for all the disadvantages Leica has compare to Panasonic and other camera manufacturers.

Some of that footage shot outside the Leica building looks stunning, skin tone is on point!
On the EVF - is it possible you had it on 120fps refresh? Resolution is noticeably lower in that mode (I'm surprised more people don't notice or mention it).

I don't understand why Leica is so behind the electronics side of things? ;( I used many brands over 15 years and own M10-R. Absolutely love the images and all BUT is there a REAL reason why it's so behind the market in comparison to oither cameras when it come sto software? I would have thought that would be the cheapest thing to fix comparing the prices they charge. I dont know man, maybe im wrong... ;(
You have to give it to Leica, their brand is on phones, 1-inch sensor cameras, m43, apsc, FF, medium format. They now have IBIS. Very fruitful cooperation with Panasonic together. Both deserve praise for what they've done this year.
Lenses give you that Leica look - but this is hardly an advantage of this camera? Surely you can use those lenses on any L mount camera and get the same look, or are we talking about M lenses, in which case this might be 'it'.
Does anyone here happen to know if Leica has made any comment on why they did not incorporate phase detect in this body? It just seems weird considering how much the camera costs, the year it was released, and the fact that phase detect seems like an obvious choice for a brand who likes to fancy themselves makers of caneras that don’t get in the way of the experience. Having only contrast detect and not phase detect sort of causes problems for wedding photographers, wildlife photogs, sports photogs, and some family photogs (when shooting pics of unruly children). So why? Anyone have any insight as to why they made this choice?
Would love to see a follow up on the SL2 with the latest firmware. When I rented it the AF seemed FAR superior to the AF on my S1.
The R3 was a gorgeous camera. I had the Safari green one and loved it, but that’s about it. The shutter failed and Leica wouldn’t fix it, but recommended two people that they trusted. I sent emails and the first guy responded by saying, “Fortunately, I no longer repair Leica R3s, and since I have; food has tasted better, sleep has been better, and air has tasted fresher. Good luck repairing your camera”
I love that story. Out of curiosity, what was the name of the technician? He sounds like he'd be really cool to work with, if he's still repairing anything else :)

This probably the best image quality you did for a shooting. Jordan give a try to the sigma art 35 mm working great on Z6 you may get same bokeh look and cool look with it

Not really, there were blown highlights all over the place. Perhaps that was shot before they discovered they had to shoot log.
Who gives a shit about autofocus ? Have you ever seen a Leica user to spray and pray on a soccer game ?
No, you will find them around to world on a hunt for the decisive moment.
The colors are truly unique, so for people searching for a second camera to invigorate creativity or to be in “fun mode “ this could be a nice alternative. The tinny limitations are part of the fun. The other option is film. Now in that space we also have the H1D II and has a different aspect ratio so a little bit better in the “change cassette “ department.
I’m always impressed with the mind boggling amount of detailed info this Jordan guy spits out, but in a very relaxed way. Editing is king but I’m still curious how many takes it took to make these reviews appear so seamless.

Would love it if Leica tried making substantive conceptual professional-oriented improvements for the photography experience again like they did with the M3. But I guess people are willing to pay the premium for style without getting the substance?
I'm not surprised the video looks so good, considering they're using cineglass. They almost never do as far as I'm aware (correct me if im wrong)

@Khav Aries Thanks, I know and they are of great quality but are expensive by their hand-made process, many equate their quality to relatively affordable Zeiss glass.....what we should appreciate is objective view of materials we use, emotion has value, but that should be made clear and not mixed up as only value....and also humour is a form of fine art...we all should appreciate....:))

Leica-Panasonic-Sigma: The L-mount family is growing for sure. 8 cameras now : 2 APSC, 6 FF.
Was wondering:
* FF: If @Leica will re-brand the S5 and offer a baby SL2. Leica users are OK with the premium price for the Red Dot.
* FF, APSC/APSH : After the fp, will @Sigma replace the Quattro and QuattoH (L-mount + Foveon or Bayer) and a mirrorless version of the SD1 / SD1 Merrill (L-mount + Foveon or Bayer)?
* APSC : @Panasonic has no plan for APSC because of their G line (M43).
Wait and see.
I'm thinking that Leica might be better off leaving camera bodies to other manufacturers and concentrating solely on lenses. Their lenses are beautifully constructed and optically outstanding usually but they are basically regurgitating Leica badged Lumix bodies here. I feel Leica would have a better future making lenses for all the latest FF mirrorless mounts ( not just L mount ). Imagine if Leica lenses came in Sony E mount, Nikon Z mount or Canon RF mount. Sure, they'd still be expensive but I'm sure plenty folk would aspire to owning Leica glass for their chosen system.

Don't complain about the price you lucky 'clowns' - the body alone here in Australia is well nigh 10K. As if that wasn't bad enough, I had a peek at the price of the lens that Steve McCurry was using (24-90), and that wretched thing is just on 7K. So there we go 17K for the same thing as my X-H1 and 16-55 for 3K. What you could do with 14 grand?? Philip

That autofocus--woof! Also, I disagree; this camera is *not* beautifully designed. Fuji cameras--those are beautifully designed. This camera's design screams practical/functional, but the brand is known for luxury, and from watching the videos coming out about this camera, I am not sure it delivers on either front.

You absolutely slammed the camera Chris :D I got the impression that you dont like the camera, or that you think its very overpriced for what it is but you didnt want to say it out loud, so you kept looking for, or findig other things to critique :D In my opinion the price is WAAAAAAAAAAYY too high, in my country its 8000 USD!!

What a load of tosh. 'The SL is plain and unappealing but the SL2 is gorgeous'. They are almost identical and similar enough for this statement to be pure nonsense. Get some glasses buster
Looks like Leica flashed the cash to bring at least 20 YT influencers to this launch so I think I will have to watch a good number of their uploads to get a more in depth view of this camera. It's not a camera I would ever consider even as a lottery winner. Portraits were good but unlikely to be SOC. Video rather meh to me, pretty soft with the ibis not as good as some others. I think that some of the positive comments here border on wannabe fan-boy ish but to each his own. All cameras here likely to be pre production, as mentioned, so maybe Leica is taking advantage of any feedback to tweak the firmware for the production models. I hope that these reviewers will be generous in their praise but be as honest as possible as far as perceived faults are concerned. Rose tinted glasses should be taken off.
Jump off that fence, Chris. You can buy Leica lenses for S1r if you want superior glass, so comparison IS about the body.
There is some dated information that is not true in this video, the battery and the grip are both different compared to the SL, and the grip is about 300 bucks more than the original. So yeah, adding a grip/battery is going to cost you another grand.
The Leica colors are really saturated, vibrant. That's the appeal, I guess. But the sky from Leica always looks fake, a blue that's way too saturated.
It takes a new vertical grip, not the grip from the SL. You criticise the original SL for its looks, then compliment the SL2 for its prism and large Leica script...which are the same as the original SL.
So this camera costs substantially more than a Canon R5 and a Sony a7siii but doesn't hold a candle to both of them but people still buy them. This Leica look argument doesn't make sense.
IPX 54 rating is ok but not that good really. Here is what it means. Both digits are separate one for dust one for water.
5 - Dust protected. Dust can still get in but it should not enter in enough to hamper operation.
4 - Splash resistant. for 10 mins with shield without 5 mins. note this is not water jets.
So still be careful your camera can still get dust into it and if the water is forcefully projected at it well your dust might turn into mud.
Very expensive, they are not better than say canon D90, but you justify in your mind with the competency of the camera
I am always disappointed when I watch your reviews. You simply do not like Leica products.
Instead of complaining just shoot I want to seee images, I really don’t care about the problems. It’s all about how you shoot at the end of the day and I just want to see image quality not boring tech review

Leica cameras are over rated and unreliable. I went from Nikon to Leica and invested a ton of money only to find their products unreliable. Today its hard to beat Sony or Canon. Don't waste your time to go for the leica over rated brand
