The people that get pissed off at creators about cameras, are usually the people who aren't out shooting. If you're involved in your own work, you don't have time to waste and usually don't care about who's shooting what. At the end of the day, it's just a camera. However, I'm glad you found something you love. If you're happy, that's all that matter.
You focusing on creativity rather than gear and specs is probably the only reason i enjoy your channel so much more than other photo channels! Keep it up!
Leica is a special product it’s just priced out of 90% of what most photographers can afford. I’ve always wanted one I won’t deny that but hard to justify the price tag.
Thats because you cant afford one. Its not meant for people that have no money. I want a new 458 ferrari too but at 600k, I had to settle for a new Mercedes convertible at 142k.
Evan, it always seems like you're rushing through the video. We want to be here. We like you. Take your time! If you give me a few more minutes, I'll stick around, just to hear what you have to say. It would be nice to hear you sound like you WANT to be there....
Evan, I so look forward to your videos and super excited that you found Leica. A guy with your kind of talent is gonna kill it with that camera. Never apologize for owning a Leica - I believe that it is a camera that “inspires” to be picked up and shot. Since getting my SL2 (I’m new to Leica also) - I cant put it down. Keep shooting and thanks for all you do man!
I Bought my SL2 in August and I am in love... I sold all my Sony gear and I am now all in with Leica. I highly recommend the Sigma line of lenses for L Mount. Their 35mm ƒ1.2 and the new 85mm ƒ1.4 lens just released are spectacular and work perfectly with the SL2. Keep the Leica content coming, ignore the haters. :-)
We made a blind test between Summilux 50mm, Lumix 50/1.4 and Sigma art. Result? No One could really say what was Leica glass. It was more a guessing. Nowadays there are almost no bad lenses anymore and only some older Leica lenses or specialities like a noctilux have a unique "look"
What a beautiful camera! Stunning images and a great review! This helped me understand cameras with this price point. Some of the most iconic images of all time have been shot on Leicas and its cool to see they have a powerful mirrorless camera like this one.
I own its sister camera, the Panasonic Lumix S1R which I love because it's different, by far the best built camera in that price range and I got it for an absolute steal (half price with less than 500 shutter actions). I would definitely upgrade to the Leica SL2 purely because of the build quality, design features and just how it makes you feel when you shoot with it. You buy a Leica to last 20+ years and maybe pass it on to your kids, you buy a Sony to last 5 years at the most. That should be taken into account with price. ALL modern full frame mirrorless cameras are great, they all have a similar output so you have to choose based on what makes you want to shoot more often… And that's where the Leica shines, and that's the point of a luxury product, it's about how it makes you feel. Enjoy that thing for many years to come!
Don’t always agree with your view points but when I bought the SL2 it completely took me of the market. But dude you need a SL lense... how can you spend that much money on it and talk about the Leica look and then use the LUMIX 28-70 when there is the Leica 24-90?
The Lumix is Leica certified and is very good. It's unfair to assume someone has the money for a Leica lens straight away. I guarantee he will eventually get some Leica lenses, it's just how it goes with Leica. When I bought my M Leica I swore I'd never get any Leica lenses for it, but now I own 2 summicrons and 1 summilux.
each to their own, but I'm with you on this one! 24-90 IS RIDICULOUS good. Sharp all the way through the range and IQ is mind blowing. I personally feel if your sticking with a 3rd party lens then the lumix s1 is also a great camera to get with it and you save the cash. If you get the SL2 with a 3rd party lens initially, with the goal of getting an SL lens down the line, I think that makes sense. Thats just my 2c though! Either way as long as we all enjoy shooting! 🤘
I remember years back when using a Canon F1 at that time, I layed my hands upon a Leica R6, which did pretty much the same as my camera, but felt SO much better let alone the optics. No being a pro Leicas are way beyond my possibilities but I'd surely get one if I could.
Awesome video, I actually picked up the original SL (Typ 601) pre-owned recently and I'm loving it. I was originally Canon, then went Sony, and I gotta say...I do understand the "Leica look" now. I don't judge anyone for whatever they end up shooting with, at the end of the day it's a tool for the art we create. Fanboys aside, there are some genuinely good reasons for shooting Leica and you said it best in this vid. And with a mixture of glass options with adapters, the Leica system is more accessible now for sure!
Having great results using my SL2 with M mount lenses. They work flawlessly and like you said, the camera is really not that big. A super compact kit. Cheers man.
Footage looks great mate. I know how you feel with niche camera’s... I’d prefer my Ricoh GRIII over most other camera’s! Cheers from The Netherlands 🇳🇱 🤙

The thing with Leicas is, you can get something that does 90% the job at 50% the price, but that last 10% you just have to pay up. Coming from a Bessa user and upgrading to an M6, the Bessa was perfectly fine and serviceable but the Leica is a whole new level, everything just *works*.
I've recently purchased a used Leica Q, I found myself heavily swayed by your feedback on them and your style. It's currently away for a service but I've been loving it! I've also recently picked up the Panasonic equivalent to the SL2, the S1R. I have the same 24-70 lens, and it's a kickass combo. Thanks for the review and thoughts on the SL2, its an awesome bit of kit. I'm hoping that with the new firmware coming for the S1R, we should get the same or at least similar video features, since they are almost the same camera.

As a previous Leica SL owner I recommend to get the L to M adapter for better image quality. Since there are also a lot of secondhand M lenses available.
good video thanks! Just got an SL2-S and an SL2. Love the S 24mp model. Looking forward to seeing what 48mp looks like at 50iso. I'm using Carl Zeiss M mount lenses which are lovely. I'm looking at the Panasonic pro series zoom lenses also (24-70 and 70-200). What are your thoughts on these after a good amount of use? Thanks.
Good review. I am a Z6 user for quite some time now and do a lot of low light photography. Regarding the comment about more megapixel leads to more noise, it is true, as long as the total sensor size is held constant. So higher megapixel sensor will have smaller area per pixel on the sensor. Smaller area means less light captured so the signal to noise ratio decreases with smaller pixel area ie higher megapixel. Oaky, so there's a few things I need to say. first, I love your content. Don't change into a gear channel, please. And here's why: I first stumbled upon your channel because of a gear video (I think a Fuji X100 something) and I stayed for all the other videos you upload(ed)! I don't know which channels I viewed for reviews and have since forgotten. Secondly, shoot what you're happy with. I think it's so sad that people feel like they need to apologize for what gear they use sometimes. That's ridiculous. The market is big enough to fit all needs. And thirdly, enjoy the SL2 - I think it's a great tool, even if it's not for me.
Yo, lovin your videos my man! It's great to see amazing talented photographer's actually using this camera and Leica systems in general. Yourself and Matt Day are literally my heros making this your go to cam! I agree its not for everyone due to the price, but for those that take the plunge they will truly be amazed and happy with there purchase! There is just something about the feel of it in the hand and the IQ it produces. Also, have you tried any of the SL lenses? If you haven't, keep it that way.. otherwise if you try it all you'll be doing is trying to figure out how to own it. That was my story... I now own 3 of them 🤣🤣. Poor AF but a happy happy man haha
Reviewers are paid to show a product in positive light, if they are leaving out something like accuracy of a camera's AF, you know that the AF is poor.
My XT-4 does the same except for resolution. But my bank account loves it! In the end, you are a really good photographer Evan, and you know how to run a business, so gear doesn't really matter.
SCHILL!!!! Nah just kidding, we all have our preferences enjoy the spoils of success man! Happy for you and can’t wait to see all the magic you create with the SL.
Definitely agree. It’s all about preferences. I like to see ytbers speak their mind. That’s how it should be. Great video, happy shooting and consider yourself lucky to be able to shoot with a Leica. It’s nonetheless exquisite👍
I'm a Sony a7r3/a9 user, decided to jump off the cliff, got an SL2 with Sigma 14-24 and Panasonic 24-105 and seriously, it's changed the way I shoot. I love it. No, I can't defend that, but damn, I just wanna take it everywhere. And see if I can shoot better, the same things I've already shot. It's part of the limitations and advancments. Also, it's method of updating firmware is the best I've ever seen.
Hi Evan, would be great if you could share a video about the experience of the SL2 with M lenses and how the experiences compare. The focus peaking looks promising with that hi res EVF of the SL2.
I just got my hands on a used SL2 and so far really impressed. One thing I noticed is that the joystick feels a little loose/delicate, like it has more play than I'd expect. Did you notice the same thing, or is it perhaps just the one I got?
Its a stunning camera I love mine. Ive take the hard route of buying Leica glass for it I found other brands buggy on it. Id still rate the GFX100S above it for picture quality but the Leica is a joy to shoot with
200k congratulations. 👍 I think your most used prime could be a Leica and the rest with sigma or Panasonic. It would be better to buy a Leica lens because of the value it can hold over time better than the other lenses.
Nikon Z6 also has lever under the thumb that allows you to change from photo to video settings with one click. It has also very good video specs (especially when you connect ext recorder). And Z6 has very good image stabilization, so the footage doesn't look shaky as yours. Colors are nice too. Flat profile makes you forget about log.
Not mad at you , Leica SL2 looks beautiful . However, I’m going to ding you a little for not mentioning the Nikon Zs . They also let you switch between video and stills while keeping your settings . Lastly , one of these days I’m going to get me a SL ! Thnx for sharing . Always appreciate your content !
It’s an artist’s camera, but a photographer will appreciate the quality of the image. I did both art and photo back in the day use film I used two Leica M4s believe there was such a difference I could right on the light table just looking at my Leica and Nikon negatives in their neat little sleeves. Leica negatives jumped off the table. I could go on and on. Even the little Leica Vario X I use only 16 megapixels puts the 24 megapixel and higher to shame … I’m willing to try Nikon D-800e of bodies I think I can be happy with PR or wedding photos but Art photo has to be the Leica, I miss that one black enamel M4 with the 35 and 90 lenses that just perfect… if I find it I’ll just digitize the negatives… Art is worth the extra work… commercial work people want quick and right now.
Hi, no criticism intended but I watched your video directly after watching Tony & Chelsea talking about the Sony a7 IV. The video was about how at high ISO's the Sony was no worse than a 24 MP camera and in his opinion was considerably better. I'm a bit confused, have you any thoughts on the matter?
With hybrid being what all the camera manufacturers are about these days I find it mind blowing that they don’t all have this type of one button switch between video and stills. Should be a given...
I love how you don’t know that Panasonic designed the internals and Leica software like your leica photos app and other software of the SL & SL2. that’s all made by Panasonic.
I preferred going all the way around and I took the lumix S1R + the Leica SL 24-90 ... you compare the SL2 with Sony and Canon but you forgot the S1R... considering it costs 2500€ only including the 24-105 that you can sell for 700€ easily and there you are with a S1R for 1800€...
I was under the impression that the major selling point for Leica rangefinder cameras was the optics. Especially wide angle lenses. Initially it was harder to produce nice wide angle glass on a SLR because of the flange distance due to the mirror. But on a rangefinder the idea is that you can produce nicer glass because it’s so close to the film plane/sensor, and thus the optics don’t have to be as complicated (on the wide end at least). I do think Leica has a unique look but I just thought that was more of a result of it being a rangefinder with better optics.
I tried the SL2 2 weeks ago in the shop with the 24-90 on. I then compared the same with my A7R3 with my 105mm 1.4 ART lens and it was amazing. The Art lens was sharp as we all know but the Leica lens was so much better. I couldnt believe it.
Came into their shop with my A7riv and felt the same. While my sony is more than enough, the same Leica setup just felt nice and solid without feeling heavy like people keep saying (or making me assume at least). May make it a goal to eventually justify buying one, but I have to check out the Panasonic S1s for myself too. I just wish Leica's accessories weren't so pricey on top of everything else. As it stands, only the busiest photographers or liquid individuals in general could buy one without much thought behind it (some photographers have no trouble getting work with even fujifilm XT3s and 4s so it's obviously not only the camera that matters). For the price combined with lenses, I might as well just get an A1 and save more in the long-term. That's just me though.
@@normandy2501 I am a pro and shoot 4k footage for tv commercials as well as photography. Most of my work is video but I make a good living from my work, about 250k a year so a new camera like this is only a fraction of what it will earn me, and its tax deductible. There a lot to be said about quality but I dont like cheap things. I always buy the best if I can. its not that long ago we would have to spend around 12k on a shoulder mount cinema video camera and I remember spending $16,800 on a new Panasonic 24mm lens. The mirrorless world is so much cheaper these days.

I have the Leica SL2 but no one talks about the poor AF-C performance!! It sucks big time even trying to focus on a slow-moving subject!
Beautiful footage and pictures. Great video and awesome camera for sure. Good choice
XT4 also has a button that changes video to photo mode (with separated settings)
Who cares?
Probably some of my favorite photos of yours in this video
I have always wondered the hype with Leica so I’m excited to watch this 😀😀
Hope you enjoy!
Congrats on the 200k!
Good to see you eventually found you dream camera (until the next one ;) )
Appreciate your honest comments on the Leica. I can’t afford one but happy to hear that it is worth it. Cheers
SCHILL!!!! Nah just kidding, we all have our preferences enjoy the spoils of success man! Happy for you and can’t wait to see all the magic you create with the SL.
What is specialized about the GFX? I see it as an excellent all-rounder.
Definitely agree. It’s all about preferences. I like to see ytbers speak their mind. That’s how it should be. Great video, happy shooting and consider yourself lucky to be able to shoot with a Leica. It’s nonetheless exquisite👍
This camera built seems like a tank.
Holy moly!!
What a beast❤️
You're a beautiful human being even ❤️
What lens do you use in this video? I am goint to buy this camera 📷
Evan, what's your usage of your Q-P been like after getting the SL2? Does the Q-P stay at home more?
When you buy used you are buyin g someone else's hand me down crap.
Hi Evan, since a Leica is maybe a little out of my price range, what’s the mic you there? 😁
Why did you go with the Panasonic 24-70 instead of the Leica Vario 24-90?
Im a Leica fangirl and Proud Evan! Just be out and proud, it's great haha!
"External" addresses media and battery cost well. Wires WORK.
Want one! I have a 601 that I absolutely love. I’m just not ready to pony up the money yet.
200k subs, Awesome, keep going
Really appreciate it!!
The s1r offers 90% of what the sl2 offers at a quarter of the price , I’m picking up a s1r to compliment my S1h
Does the SL2 use the same crappy contrast AF system as the S1R?
@@romanpul yes
Not the same. Cameras are for capturing images. Leicas are for YOUR image.
Not mad at you , Leica SL2 looks beautiful . However, I’m going to ding you a little for not mentioning the Nikon Zs . They also let you switch between video and stills while keeping your settings . Lastly , one of these days I’m going to get me a SL ! Thnx for sharing . Always appreciate your content !
do you post process your audio?
Never used a leica myself, but damn, that SL2 looks sexy. Plus, it's such a versatile camera!
Friend of mine said London Jewelers in Long Island, NY has some in stock, just like M10’s and Q2’s... solid hardware 🤙
Would love to know what you thought about the fuji 50. I was considering it for a minute but idk if I wanna give up my canon glass.
Not every product is “for everyone”. There’s a market, and Leica knows their market.
A Yankee hat in Braves nation? Bold choice sir 😄
Lol had to switch it up some! This was recorded before the Braves lost last night too.. Smh I wanted to see them pull out the W!
Hey man, where did your friend get that camera/dagger shirt?
How about the autofocus in video ? Is it Sony good ? Canon good ? lumix good ? or Q2 good ?
I would like to learn ho to do color grading if you can help me with that please
This was awesome man
It’s an artist’s camera, but a photographer will appreciate the quality of the image.
Love Leica. Im planning on getting a Leica M in a few years. Same shitty pics, different status
A camera is all about how it makes you feel - if you feel it - you will take better pictures - and when you do it wasn't the cameras fault!!!!
I’m trying to decide if I want to get the SL2 or SL2-S. Because I’m gonna make the jump to full frame in 7 months or so.
With hybrid being what all the camera manufacturers are about these days I find it mind blowing that they don’t all have this type of one button switch between video and stills. Should be a given...
My Nikon Z6 also has switch to jump between video and photo with separate settings
As someone who has used SL, SL2 and LUMIX S5, I recommend you save your pennies and get the S5.
Damn. You do have a different energy in this video. You’ve got some heat in your voice. I don’t mind it tho, great vid. Keep it up!
So people can talk or debate but there is a Leica look and I do agree with others that the Leica glass is most important.
I love how you don’t know that Panasonic designed the internals and Leica software like your leica photos app and other software of the SL & SL2. that’s all made by Panasonic.
Whats your point?
How did you edit the photos to look like Portra??
I’ve been waiting on this one.
🙏🙏🙏
beautiful sl2! Nice choice 👍
Both are true: glass: YES! Body and user experience: also YES!!
Hows its low light performance?
Get the Leica glass! The 50mm Summicron will blow your mind on the SL2.
I like your Channel and your fantastic work you do.For me the Leica is too expensive.I have a Nikon D-500 and D 750 and a Sony a6300 and that is it.But if you have some money you don`t know what to do with you can sponsor me so that I can buy a Leica SL2. A Leica is unique. It is like a Mercedes.Only a Mercedes is a Mercedes and so is it with a Leica.Keep on doing your fantastic work and think about sponsor me.No thats a joke.Stay safe and greeting from Austria.
Street with the SL2. Better wear some ninja camouflage. Take that incredible QP. 👊
xt4 has the same thing tho, but I get it, it has a certain look. Thats the reason I switched from Canon and Sony to Fujifilm. There is a certain "feel", but hey, whatever makes you a better shooter
Really hoping you move to 4K eventually. Such great content would look so good in 4k!
Hopefully I can experiment more with that!!
@@RanftEvan Your videos would really benefit from the higher bitrate and less UA-cam compression in 4K. Your photos are top-tier and some of the best out there but man, the 1080p low bitrate video really looks so unremarkable on YT.
Stoked for your future! Going to be picking up some of your clothing line too because that shit is too good man. Congrats on everything!
