  • Kookie gets at least on bath a week in the winter, then she sits in a sunny window to dry and preen and clean. In the summer she is outside and in the water very often. She LOVES the water!
    Enjoy every day!

    I jealous. My amazon tolerates her showers, but would never just jump into water on her own. Hates towel drying, too. I like that she smells better!!

    Kookie's adorable. We have a black-capped caique named Loki. He makes a big show of liking the sound of running water, but he's not big on actually getting under the water unless I'm holding him.

    Take the stopper out of the sink and leave the damn faucet alone, the Bird knows where it is. Caiques LOVE water and will have a blast playing in it without any help.

    The beginning of the video was sweet and nice but not the end. In the end of the video the bird had signaled every time that it was enough for him with the bath and that it want to go out of the sink because of the plug!

    I have a 7 year old cockatiel, he's a bit of a scaredy-cat, but a sweetheart. Would he get along with a caique and vice-versa. Plus my boyfriend wants us to get a cockatoo, would they get along (Or just not hurt each other)? All would have separate cages.

    • @carolync7767
      @carolync7767 8 років тому

      Cockatiels and Caiques are not a good combo. Caique's, as cute as they are could be aggressive towards the cockatiel. Not stopping you from getting a caique as a friend for your cockatiel, but I would supervise very closely.

      I wouldn't say friend, their cages would be in different rooms (cockatiel- kitchen/dining room, caique- living room) but if they were out at the same time, would they go out of their way to fight? And how are caiques flying abilities? I never clipped my birds wings and probably never will but I heard caiques are poor flyers so I'm just asking how poor.

    • @carolync7767

      What I meant by friend was introducing another bird into the household. Caique's are very aggressive and cockatiels are docile. Caique's play hard to the point where it looks like they are fighting. Sometimes it almost looks like they kick box especially when you see them in pairs. Caiques are walkers, but remember, they are birds and they do know how to fly. I had a cockatiel that was more of a walker than a flier. It all depends on the personality of the bird. Wing clipping is usually a hot topic. I do trim my birds wings. I do it for their own personal safety. I have seen at the vet where a bird was treated from landing in a hot pot of boiling water. I have also heard of birds flying into candles and having candles and birds is a no-no!! One of my old college roommates had a conure that flew out the door and never seen again.. It all depends on the owner. Wing clipping isn't permanent. The bird will molt the feathers and they will grow back. Caique's are adorable, don't get me wrong, I would love to have one myself, however and this is just me, I own cockatiels and I don't think cockatiels and caiques are not a good mixture. Research is important. .. The caique's energy level is very high and they do need A LOT OF ATTENTION.

      I know about caiques personality (just not how they act around other birds) and that's why I want one. I want a bird that wants a lot of attention, one I can play with and/or cuddle. If I could choose I would buy a hand-fed conure instead of caique because I think they would get along better, but respectable breeders in my country are scarce (or non-existent for certain breeds).
      I know the feathers grow back, but I don't like depriving them of flight. He would get too fat and he's a poor flyer either way, when he was a baby he was diagnosed with arthritis so he was afraid to fly for a long time. And sometimes he's too excited and doesn't land on time and ends up landing on the floor or hitting something and if i clipped his wings now for the first time (7yo) I'd just be contributing to this happening more often.

      Like I mentioned, trimming wings is a hot topic. My birds still have some flight but not much. It's so that they don't crash into the walls or floors. There are a couple different ways to trim wings where it doesn't stop the bird from acting like a bird.. Like is said.. It's up to the owner if they want to trim there wings. Everybody has their own opinion and mine is all about my animals safety.. I live in area where there is a lot of wild life such as deer, ground hogs, skunks, beavers, hawks, owls, turkeys, etc.. If any of my birds fly out the door, guess what the wildlife is having for dinner?? Birds also have a high metabolism, I never had a bird get fat from having their wings clipped.
      I wish you the best of luck.
