I just shared this inspirational video in my online Geology class. Seneca Rocks are a wonderful example of differential erosion and the extreme durability of pure quartz sandstone. Your drone shots do an awesome job of making that point! These rocks also have an important tectonic story to tell in that they represent deposition the end of a period of mountain building (orogeny). In this case, the Taconic Orogeny, which ended about 440 million years ago had created a mountain range that became eroded to near sea level, so the old mountain range could produce little new sediment via erosion. This gave time for previously deposited sediment to become reworked by waves, currents and most importantly, continued weathering, without being buried by more sediment. Extensive reworking left only the most durable mineral, quartz, in the reworked sand. One can think of Seneca Rocks (and the regionally extensive Tuscarora Formation to which it belongs) as orogeny's "white flag of surrender". A majestic signal of mountain building's surrender to erosion.
We didn't have drones , in the 70s when I first Ridge Walked this lovely place. Thanks for such definitive video of being in another place . I was up there in the Snow storm in winter 1977- 78. Without ropes I came unglued but froze against the rock... so I could tell this near fall story today... 2024. Go there if you need a Spiritual infusion...
Such great scenery and heart-stopping climb at the rocks! I just did this a few days ago. Your drone shots were awesome! I forgot my drone at home unfortunately; just GoPro and cell phone shots.
just got back from a trip there. that's some beautiful footage, but you're crazy, lol. i wasn't going past the sign. lol. Be careful in your future adventures.
Wow! You guys are on top of the world!!! That's definitely worth the hike! You guys are so cool taking this beautiful aerial cinematic shots. I love it 😍
They need to update/fix their signage, lol. The trail sign still says 1 mile to the top, when it's more like 1.5-1.7 miles. A lot of people go into it thinking it will be a quick 1 mile hike up, but it gets fairly challenging the farther up you get.
I have been to the deck many of times... my fear of heights would not allow me to go to the Ridgeline. In fact going to Yellowstone national park from the east entrance.... driving through the valley was a freaky experience for me as well. I'm sure you found out that there is no cell phone service there... although you can rent satellite phones for emergencies near by.
definitely no cell service haha. But yeah we definitely enjoyed being able to go out to the ridgeline but we were trying to be extra cautious and aware when out there
Not bad at all, but be careful and cautious with every step. If you don't want to climb you don't need to, it's a casual hike to the top, only climbing if you want to step onto the ridge a 100 feet ish
absolutely, no tour needed. if you want to climb technical routes 5.0 and up I would get a guide (unless you have experience and equipment) but no permit or guide needed to do this hike and going on the ridgeline is at your own risk
haha from the drone shots it doesn't make much sense, but the hike was actually super easy! before we knew it we came out of the trees and were on the rocks haha
5:39 Bri said I DO NOT LIKE HEIGHTS, Started holding my breath. lol My heart be like 📈📈 You better not look down. You guys should wear some PPE equipment next time. I am just concern on your safety. Stay Safe❤ Sending Love from the Philippines!!
Nice capture on vertical rocks using the drone. Scary looking shots, awesome drama. However the GoPro video in the first half was really challenged, looks like 480 resolution. Keep up the good work, you've had some nice adventures.
Thanks for the tips! I am glad you liked the drone shots, they were my favorite. And yeah I noticed that too- super annoying but we were in such a rush racing the clock we were switching in between the gopro hero 8 and a few iphone 11 clips just to fill the story. But agree 100% with ya
Seneca Rocks is a unique hiking exhibit that is definitely worth doing for any avid hiker. The climb up to the top is not that exhausting, but the risk when scaling the rocks is what makes it unique. Challenge: Try to walk all the way across the top of the rocks without climbing gear. Most people either stop at the sign or a few paces after the beginning of the crags.
Typically not how we do it, we like to over prepare. But sometimes it happens, we were okay pushing it just because this is such a short hike. But not our typical prep!
I'm 65 years old now, Gonna take that climb one more time this summer before I get too old. Thanks for the inspiration!

Glad you guys enjoyed your trip up on the Seneca rocks. I live in Seneca rocks. Some of your video from the top of the rocks, shows my house.
Love the drone footage. Seneca Rocks On my to do list.

thanks for watching! Glad you liked the footage haha
I’m going horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, and caving at Seneca rocks in a few weeks. 😏😁😉
enjoy! that'll be a great trip
@@KevinEassa I will! Changed the date and I’m leaving tomorrow. 😂
These drone cinematics are insane, really love them.
thanks so much! glad you enjoyed it!

Nice video and great music choice! Good work
thanks so much!
Beautiful place
It really is! Thanks for watching!
Great job! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks so much!
Great video, the scenery is unbelievable. Music was perfect, but a little loud while flying the drone.
So glad you liked it, thanks for watching
How rough was the rock climb part of it?
Not bad at all, but be careful and cautious with every step. If you don't want to climb you don't need to, it's a casual hike to the top, only climbing if you want to step onto the ridge a 100 feet ish
this is awesome.. so one can tackle these without the need for a guide or say a guided tour? also, do you need any permissions to hike here?
absolutely, no tour needed. if you want to climb technical routes 5.0 and up I would get a guide (unless you have experience and equipment) but no permit or guide needed to do this hike and going on the ridgeline is at your own risk
It looks quite treacherous to me. Like you can’t sneeze or trip. It looks like one misstep and a person could fall.
Hey awesome video! Whats the name of this trail?
Just the Seneca rocks trail! Thanks for watching!
Sick dude. I’m gonna have to check that out
Me thinking how the hell did you get up that ridge, looks hella scary
haha from the drone shots it doesn't make much sense, but the hike was actually super easy! before we knew it we came out of the trees and were on the rocks haha
Dude! That was scary!
Dude it’s so scary! But so freaking cool!
I’m a good climber and I climbed it when I was five
That’s awesome!
i was there two days ago
Nice! Love Seneca
Tell me your legs didn’t tremble at the ridge line 😂😂
Not while climbing but when we were doing the GoPro shots and selfies it was terrifying lol. Get the shot and get tf down lol
Mine absolutely were trembling when I was standing on the ridge line lol
Doing this soon.
It’s awesome! Have funn
Thanks going in April before it gets to hot.
stood there many times 50 years ago
That’s so awesome!
Can u plz let noe which drone u r using and camera 👍👍👍 it was awesome
in this video mavic 2 pro, go pro hero 8, and sony a7iii. My older videos I use a mavic 1 pro

I went there and I live in wv
nice! such a cool place
I stayed at yokums meh. Didn’t have time to do Seneca
I hadn't heard of that before but it looks awesome!

It is such a unique place. I love the challenge but also people have to be safe and know their limits, not worth falling. We didn’t go to far
@@KevinEassa I wasn't serious about that part. The notches on the top of the rocks are very difficult to climb through without safety equipment.
@@spectre9065 It's pretty chill if you've got some climbing experience. The safety equipment doesn't change the difficulty!
@@tylerlego41 Correct, if it offers any advantage, its psychological.
@@spectre9065 not dying if you fall is a pretty tangible advantage lol
Wow, that was poor judgment. You didn't have any climbing gear, not even a flashlight. You two got away with something. Be safe :)
Typically not how we do it, we like to over prepare. But sometimes it happens, we were okay pushing it just because this is such a short hike. But not our typical prep!
This is hiking, not climbing
Thank you for watching
I’m short so I most definitely needed to use my hands and “climb” up the big Seneca Rocks!
