Isabeau carrying your sorry carcass, Odile walking alongside you, Bonnie holding your hand, and Mirabelle walking ahead, leading everyone to the end while the world breaks apart around you, is one of the most beautiful moments I’ve seen in a video game
I understand Gina being bothered that “Siffrin never had to actually communicate,” but I really think that, given his mental state, just being able to say “I wished to stay with everyone” was a *huge* breakthrough in terms of communication for him, and took a lot of courage even if, from an objective standpoint, he didn’t really have a choice at that point even then, they still could’ve chosen to let their friends continue to beat them up for all eternity rather than finally just spitting it out, lol

I don't just interpret the END as Sif starting to turn into a sadness, I interpret the entire mal du pays scene as the gradual process of wearing them down until they give into their own sadness and become it.
The randomnized rooms on the later floors prevents you from being trapped in one of thje impossible routes in addition to be highly creepy, love that you finnally got the ending, I hope you talk to loop in the end.
They're not actually randomized. You still need to use the Star Crest on the right Tears - but if you try to use it on a different row of Tears, Siffrin will just say "(Not this one.)"
No matter how many times I see the fight against the party and the following scene, I still am left a sobbing mess at the end of it. The final shot of the group hug breaks me every time. Please respect that. I know exactly why you are all so eager, but please recognize that your enthusiasm has the potential to leech some of the enjoyment out of the game for them.
The way this game works, my first thought when reading the title of this episode was 'oh god, someone else is going to get stuck in a separate time loop and they're going to break down.'
In response to fanfiction about the other characters getting stuck in the time loop, the creator of the game said that they think anyone but Siffrin would have escaped in five loops tops, because none of them have the concoction of mental illness that keeps Siffrin from telling their family his problems. Sorry if this is worded badly I'm typing through tears.
So the whole deal with Mal Du Pays, my theory is Siffrin was THIS👌 CLOSE to becoming a Sadness. I also feel the Craft Type of a Sadness is dependent on the Craft Type of who it was, and Powerful Sadness (Sif definitely qualifies there) are also capable of channeling multiple Craft Types, so I feel Mal Du Pays would have Sif’s 2 affinities: Piercing Craft…and Wish Craft! And a Sadness with control over WISH CRAFT sounds nigh unstoppable. In his final battle Sif was able to use the might of the Universe Itself, the only reason the party survived was Sif was in the drivers seat and he COULDN’T annihilate his family…but a Sadness would be heartless and wouldn’t hesitate. Forget Vaugaurd, the entire world would be threatened.
Okay so. Personal theory time. Odile! She can stop time craft. How? One of these theories is directly related to her knowing the slow spell which is not linked to a craft type. So what craft would slow be? That's right. Odile can use a bit of time craft which allows her to stop Sif Stupider theory time: In this one timeline Odile is the one person whose wish is not achieved. Bonnies sister is saved and vagaurde is safe due to stopping the king and Isa found Sif due to help from loop but due to their travel Odile never managed to flip her coin. Keeping her wish in a quantum state of being achieved or not. This in turn would give her the power to stop the wish craft due to having a wish in the stock yet to be granted or not granted
Or she just learns a version of her Craft Break skill and disrupts Sif with that. Mira has an improved shield/reflect as well. .. hehe, everyone gets even stronger skills than after family quests because siffrin is not with them because he is so disgusting and useless and they hate him and-

Perhaps as Sif completely refuses to loop back to start in this loop he got properly time-stopped by the King for the first time, unlike looping back the second he touches a tear and feels like it's his end.

By the time the party shows up, I was tense the entire time. I basically didn't think they were really there until almost the very end. This game did such a good job. This ending just.. ugh made my heart sick. Still so many questions, like I also want to know what is up with Euphrasie. Compared to EVERYONE else, her behavior in any loop is off.. And ODILE IS THE BIGGEST BADASS EVER. She learned how to use time craft just by learning about it from Loop, and books in the house. She is amazing.

Was it perhaps the best decision to stay up til almost 3 a.m. to watch this episode right after coming home from a concert that gave me a headache? Certainly not. 51:32 ok so. I feel like I have a differing opinion on this scene than most do, and I don't know if it's intentional or not. When I got to this in my own game, and later seeing others reach this point, this scene always felt off. Siffrin got worn down so much from Mal du pays. He lost all will to fight, he hit the bedrock. The tone has never been lower. And then suddenly a *super* cheery song plays and everything is *bright* and everyone appears and is smiling? It never hit well for me. It felt like too much. Too abrupt, too happy-go-lucky. Too *sweet* one could say. And it's only now during this playthrough that I'm putting it together and finding an explanation for this that makes me a lot more amenable to these turns of events. This could be wish craft really pushing it to lift Siffrin back up from their pit and grant their wish back to them. They've been gone, they've been without their party for hours so the wish has been straining, and now it's snapping back with a KICK to give Siffrin what he wants again, resulting in a really saccharine taste. Overcompensating until it evens itself back out after the king fight. It feels off because it's purposely pushed and slightly artificial to get Siffrin his wish. I could be spouting nonsense to "fix a problem" that only I'm feeling, but thinking about the situation like this really eases the somewhat sour taste in my mouth from this scene.
I don't think a sudden triumphant moment is a problem that needs fixing, really? It hit exactly right for me, and the game then goes on to show that this one event didn't fix everything, it, at most, put a small band-aid on a gaping wound. If anything, it's in-line with how the rest of the game has made use of the common elements of these sorts of stories: when the protagonist is at their lowest, when defeat is inevitable, when they've given up, the party appears and reassures them that they are loved and valued and can win this. So, we get that...and then it turns out that that wasn't enough.
for me it was less the moment itself and more the smiling portraits, to me it feels like those expressions just don't fit either the previous scenes or the implied ocurrances that the party went through going up the house, maybe if the faces looked more determined rather than hyper-optimistic it would feel less off? although I guess part of the impact of the scene is because of the sudden shift from the all consuming depression and self-loathing to the realization the the family is here.

Shit man, this time loop is fucked. I just saw Siffrin pull out their dagger, say "(Scissors.)" or some similar shit, and all the sadnesses around him took 6000 damage and died instantly. There wasn't even any unique dialogue, that's how common shit like this is. My ass is casting Paper III and Slow IV. I think I just heard Power Word: Skip, two rooms over. I gotta get the fuck out of here.
So far my main two nitpicks with this game is that it’s very obvious what the problem with the loop is and the fact that communication could have fixed so much. It made it somewhat annoying to ‘play as’ sif and have them never even attempt to when that would clearly have been a helpful solution. Maybe even just for one loop. Besides those two things I’ve absolutely adored this game and I don’t get how this channel continues to find games I’ve never heard about before but I absolutely adore.
I mean, yeah, communication could have fixed so much. Which is exactly the point - Siffrin was precisely the wrong person to get stuck in this situation because they fundamentally can't communicate. The story is a character study of Siffrin and their fatal flaw. A character study is - by design - meant to highlight one or two key aspects of a character that make them uniquely unable to solve the (comparatively) simple situation they find themselves in. A famous example is the fact that if Hamlet and Macbeth swapped places, then *neither* story would be a tragedy. So yes, it's true. Communication *would* have solved Siffrin's problem. Because the story was specifically written to highlight Siffrin's inability to communicate.
I feel a little cheated that we don't naturally come to the point where we have to talk to them, and that Loop had to stop hiding and literally explain everything short of our wish to them. This is fine, it works, but it also feels rushed just in the one loop.

51:32 ok so. I feel like I have a differing opinion on this scene than most do, and I don't know if it's intentional or not. When I got to this in my own game, and later seeing others reach this point, this scene always felt off. Siffrin got worn down so much from Mal du pays. He lost all will to fight, he hit the bedrock. The tone has never been lower. And then suddenly a *super* cheery song plays and everything is *bright* and everyone appears and is smiling? It never hit well for me. It felt like too much. Too abrupt, too happy-go-lucky. Too *sweet* one could say. And it's only now during this playthrough that I'm putting it together and finding an explanation for this that makes me a lot more amenable to these turns of events. This could be wish craft really pushing it to lift Siffrin back up from their pit and grant their wish back to them. They've been gone, they've been without their party for hours so the wish has been straining, and now it's snapping back with a KICK to give Siffrin what he wants again, resulting in a really saccharine taste. Overcompensating until it evens itself back out after the king fight. It feels off because it's purposely pushed and slightly artificial to get Siffrin his wish.
I could be spouting nonsense to "fix a problem" that only I'm feeling, but thinking about the situation like this really eases the somewhat sour taste in my mouth from this scene.
I don't think a sudden triumphant moment is a problem that needs fixing, really? It hit exactly right for me, and the game then goes on to show that this one event didn't fix everything, it, at most, put a small band-aid on a gaping wound.
If anything, it's in-line with how the rest of the game has made use of the common elements of these sorts of stories: when the protagonist is at their lowest, when defeat is inevitable, when they've given up, the party appears and reassures them that they are loved and valued and can win this. So, we get that...and then it turns out that that wasn't enough.
for me it was less the moment itself and more the smiling portraits, to me it feels like those expressions just don't fit either the previous scenes or the implied ocurrances that the party went through going up the house, maybe if the faces looked more determined rather than hyper-optimistic it would feel less off? although I guess part of the impact of the scene is because of the sudden shift from the all consuming depression and self-loathing to the realization the the family is here.

Shit man, this time loop is fucked. I just saw Siffrin pull out their dagger, say "(Scissors.)" or some similar shit, and all the sadnesses around him took 6000 damage and died instantly. There wasn't even any unique dialogue, that's how common shit like this is. My ass is casting Paper III and Slow IV. I think I just heard Power Word: Skip, two rooms over. I gotta get the fuck out of here.

So far my main two nitpicks with this game is that it’s very obvious what the problem with the loop is and the fact that communication could have fixed so much. It made it somewhat annoying to ‘play as’ sif and have them never even attempt to when that would clearly have been a helpful solution. Maybe even just for one loop.
Besides those two things I’ve absolutely adored this game and I don’t get how this channel continues to find games I’ve never heard about before but I absolutely adore.
I mean, yeah, communication could have fixed so much. Which is exactly the point - Siffrin was precisely the wrong person to get stuck in this situation because they fundamentally can't communicate. The story is a character study of Siffrin and their fatal flaw. A character study is - by design - meant to highlight one or two key aspects of a character that make them uniquely unable to solve the (comparatively) simple situation they find themselves in.
A famous example is the fact that if Hamlet and Macbeth swapped places, then *neither* story would be a tragedy.
So yes, it's true. Communication *would* have solved Siffrin's problem. Because the story was specifically written to highlight Siffrin's inability to communicate.
I feel a little cheated that we don't naturally come to the point where we have to talk to them, and that Loop had to stop hiding and literally explain everything short of our wish to them. This is fine, it works, but it also feels rushed just in the one loop.
