Hey Scott, a gentle, hopeful reminder that for the first playthrough of your Castform run, you should do the Tate&Liza battle with the castform from the Weather Institute as your secondary so it's a true castform run! Love you bro, hope you and your fiancé are doing well and enjoying Valentines day!
I always thought that Luvdisc should "shed" heart scales by gaining one as a held item every few times ot levels, like Shuckle could turn berries to berry juice. It gives trainers incentive to raise it despite its difficulties in battle. I've always loved Pokémon that have reasons to raise outside of battle, though.
Lovely to see a lot of love given to Luvdisc and even the move Attract. It's nice to see an underutilised Pokémon get a chance to shine, see it overcome many obstacles and to see some creative choice of moves utilised. The love story between Valentine and Kyle was a charming touch; looking forward to the latter's solo run. He seems to have garnered some levels already. An it's rather interesting that Rain Dance came into play in the end, given the comments in the chat about Luvdisc's ability and lack of natural Rain Dance learning.
Whoa what an exciting shiny! Poochyena's shiny is one of my favorites, I always though it looks like a peanutbutter cup. Having a candy heart and a reeses cup feels appropriate for a valentine's video lol I wasn't sure if we were in for another surprise performance like chimecho's, luvdisc is another one of those very unintimidating pokemon, but I guess the final result isn't that big of a surprise, either. It was cool to see attract and charm strategies, though, and once you were done with Norman it felt like the place really picked up! Thank you for the fun video, and I hope you and your fiancée had a lovely Valentine's day!
Nice to see Luvdisc getting used. Also congrats on the shiny. This brightened my day a little bit since I don't normally get to do anything for Valentine's Day. My mom got me some hot chocolate mix with little marshmallows in it so I'm kind of happy. Please keep up the great videos and the amazing work from you and the others helping out where needed.
Thanks for this video! I’m so glad you upload more consistently now, can’t get enough of these challenges lol Makes you put on the spot a lot of forgotten pokemon and it’s cool to see them go through the game, l would love to see older unavailable pokemon run this game as well as the johto starters since you only get them when you complete the pokedex so you dont get to play with them the main game at all! :(
I’m pretty sure I’ve only missed 2 weeks in the last 2ish years? January 2022 and August 2022. Maybe UA-cam is doing a bad job notifying you? I’ve heard complaints about that from others.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon It might be, either way man I’m happy to see you move through generations and even the small updates to the layout little by little!
Congratulations on the shiny! I just caught a shiny flaafy and evolved it into ampharos in soulsilver and it’s so cool. Only the third shiny I’ve found naturally on a game card of my own. Super fun run btw never thought I’d see a luvdisc beat Watson
Man I heard watching your most exciting new series (these emerald playthroughs, quite possibly my fav release in the Pokémon series) that this would come for Valentines, however I didn’t realize it was this soon already! What a beautiful surprise;)
Yay Luvdisc!! Btw, I think a quiet nature would have made much more sense than modest - luvdisc has so much speed already and you need to be overleveled for all major fights anyway, and I think the minus attack nature really hurt you in the early part of the game
What’s cool is watching you grow in the short time I’ve been watching you. I really like your stuff. On your way to be one of the best Pokémon youtubers
Hey thanks for the nickname shoutout Scott. Much appreciated. Been a big fan of your content since end of April 2021 and really admired how much your video quality and performance has improved over these past couple of years. Keep up the awesome work 😀
Well done on the Luvdisc run Scott! I recently did one for a Discord I'm in, and I gotta say, you blew me out of the water; the Hail play against Tate and Liza was genius! I realized the last couple comments I left were either criticisms or observations, when in reality I really adore your content, so I wanted to leave a more positive one. Thanks Scott!
Thanks so much @joeytoby1, I really appreciate the positive comment! (Also thanks for the other comments, feedback and criticism help me improve the content and my play (the later seems to improve a lot slower!)
Luvdisc on valentines day? That can only mean one thing: Scotts in danger, he was forced to put himself through this. Quick! Assemble a squad! We have to save him from more torture like this! What if someone forces him to do another Seal challenge in yellow!? Oh no!
Hi Scott, nice video as always just something that bothered me the whole video : with a pokemon like Luvdisc, chose a nature that reduce speed, it's a shame to lose on atk stat when your speed is this high and it's often useful to be hybrid atleast in early game
Usually I dislike valentines day. However this year I had a particularly good one, and your video just made it better, Thank you. Your challenges always brighten my day, even if they are preventing me from studying right now. Lol
I’m new to this channel but I like the trainers Pokémon move sets on the side. I like watching jrose11 do similar challenges to this, but since emerald was my first Pokémon game I find this as a very nice change
Emerald video guy returns! Honestly, this particular run is incredibly rough. It went just about how I expected. I think you might have had an easier time if you went back to Rusturf Tunnel and maxed out your HP EVs on the Whismur in the tunnel as soon as you got the Macho Brace. It may have taken less attempts - and less time - if you survived an extra hit or so. Sometimes, one extra turn is all you need. Excellent use of the Hail TM against Tate & Liza. I did not think of this. Very smart of you, I'm a big fan of that idea. Good job. Against Wallace, I think you could have tried either Blizzard or Toxic over Ice Beam on your moveset. This way, you might have the damage to 2HKO the Ludicolo through a Double Team or Giga Drain. Alternatively, Toxic allows you to stall out the Milotic much easier as you have more Rest PP than Wallace has Full Restores, and with the way Toxic works, it'll eventually out-damage Recover. Then, at Steven, you made great use of weather once again. I was expecting Rain Dance to come up eventually. Overall, I have very little advice for you this time, you played this run well, given the difficulty. Advice for future runs, however; I think that, for Pokemon like Luvdisc that have terrible offensive stats on both sides, indirect ways to increase your damage are likely to be vital parts of your strategy in difficult battles. You showcased this already with Rain Dance against Steven. Luvdisc has awful damage, so you needed the boost from rain to supplement it so it could do enough damage to pull you through. In the same way, Toxic or even something as simple as Poison Powder can be helpful as that indirect damage via status really racks up over multiple turns. This is especially so since the AI almost never switches out, allowing you to abuse that little quirk to the fullest when using Toxic or even Poison Fang. Speaking of Poison Fang, could I request a run with Seviper? I love its design.
Thanks Emerald video guy. You're comments are always great. I'm glad my play was quite good in this playthrough. Also, I think you're right regarding "sometimes, one extra turn is all you need." Whismur for HP EVs with the Macho Brace is a really good idea. For weak Pokemon in the future I think that is a good strat to go for before Watson. Seviper will probably be next year. I want to make a double feature with Zangoose. We've just got the autosplitter working in gen3 and there is still some work to do on Gamehook to get things really smooth. Once that work is done I need to focus on improving my play and maybe doing multiple playthroughs. Then I'll be ready for Seviper.
What's nice about this run, IMO, is that it's painful and difficult enough to have a lot of character and be memorable, but not so painful at any single stage (except maaayyybe Watson) to be struggle-city that just makes me feel bad for you. Maybe your best video of the year so far, Scott!
So not only do I fall asleep to you every night but now I have your first caught shiny named after me too? Man I love it here and love my valentines day gift🥰😘😍
When you get to Valentines Day...um, (does some maths)...some time within the next ten(+) years, when you finally get to Gen 5, you must use the palindromic pink sunfish that totally should have been Luvdisc's evolution Also, I hope you and the soon to be Mrs Scott's Thoughts have an enjoyable Valentines
Robert Silverberg (a generally excellent author) has a series about a character called Lord Valentine, who basically turns out to be a hidden king who's lost his memories. It's got a lot of those whole 'hidden guy is a natural, and just /good/ at the stuff he tries for the first time' stuff. But like. The thing that he's doing that he's really good at isn't swordfighting or technical work, but juggling and theater.
I always thought Luvdisk was cute, but while grinding heart scales in gen seven I actually took one with me and enjoyed using it! I generally get really bored by the regular water type moves, but I lOve status moves
nice to see a Luvdisc only during valentine, a tip for watson if you like to do some confusion strats though, you can actually learn swagger in slateport pokemon fan club, yes, relying on confusion strats is inconsistent but the 90% accuracy and attack boost may actually help more in particular for watson for most pokemon against his magneton and possibly the manetric
This is a good reference point for the azumarill run in crystal, both weak water types with fast exp growth, but only one of them has a good movepool and early surf access
Hey Scott! In case you didn't know already, on the beach where you found the hidden items after skipping Brawly, there is an additional Heart Scale just north of the Old man standing next to his Zigzagoon! A friend pointed that out to me, and I didn't know about the one under the umbrella myself, hope that helps!
In my opinion, after Brawly you just don't get an easy Gym Leader in Generation 3. Wattson has Magneton and loads of paralysis Hax. Flannery has Sunny Day + Overheat. Norman can annihilate your team if you don't have a good way to handle Slaking. Winona's Altaria can set Dragon Dance and sweep teams. Tate and Liza are a Double Battle. Then Juan's Double Team and Rest spamming Kingdra.
Yeah the Gym leaders are very strong in this game. Access to Thunderbolt and Ice Beam before Wionna does make her less intimidating. Also, Dig before Norman really neutralizes the Slaking. Generally overlevelling has set in by the time I make it to Juan. I think that’s why it feels like Watson just hits so hard. The game doesn’t really provide you something to manage steel or electric types in this format.
Oh my god I am **sooooo** glad someone else saw the foot as a mouth! I thought it was a mouth for probably over a decade! Wasn’t until seeing it as a 3d model I realised that was its leg!
Have you watched FlygonHG's nuzlocke in Emerald with trash pokemon? He wrote this whole scene between his Luvdisc and Flannery's Camerupt because they were stuck in an Attract loop against each other. Hilarious yet sad. Congrats on the furbaby, Scott! We will want pictures once the adoption is in place.
Luvdisc didn't do particularly well, but I think that was definitely to be expected. I can't say it gets particularly better for Luvdisc from this point on, as its movepool is always pretty bad. But at least it ends up getting a good Hidden Ability: Hydration. That's something right. It's like RestoChesto but better! Cannot wait for the Kyle run.
It’s actually never required to fight Brawly since flash is the hm associated with getting his gym badge. In fact, the sixth gym badge is the only one that the game checks for when you get to the e4
Interesting that the game only checks for badge six at the league. Makes sense though. It’d be funny if the game didn’t check for the second badge before Norman, then you could skip Brawley entirely.
Luvdisc kinda looks like a heart-shaped bean. Therefore, I shall invoke a poem based on Kingdom Hearts III: Roses are red Luvdiscs are deviants This looks like a good spot To find some ingredients
This reminds me of my first 3 shinies i found in my life. My first shiny was a shiny Makuhita when I was about 6. I never knew shinies were a thing, but it had a neat coloring and those little stars that shone around it were cool, so I caught it. Being an impatient child, I tried to power grind it to evolve so I could see what the Hariyama of it would look like. However, as it was going through the evolution animation, my cousin came in from outside and knocked the game out of my hand (and thus the cartridge out of the system). I had not saved since catching this shiny Pokémon… I learned my lesson since then. My second shiny was when I eventually got Pokémon emerald. I found a shiny magcargo… in the battle factory. So I had this shiny for all 1-2 battles before it was ripped out of my hands. The third shiny I ever found was in generation IV with Pokémon Pearl. I found a shiny Noctowl in the Safari Zone… I was in fact, fortunate enough to catch it before it could run away. Having learned my lesson by this point, I saved my game and this was my very first shiny Pokémon that I got to keep.
1:15 When I played Pokemon Snakewood (an awesomely awful ROM hack), I caught a Luvdisc for a Blue Rock (the renamed Heart Scales), and named it Valentine. It was hilarious when I gave it a Water Stone, and it became a grotesque Basculin in the process. Also changed its gender. 10:04 To suit its "joke mon" flavor, I guess. Body Slam is a pretty simple concept, but even it requires some amount of control and dexterity. Take Down is basically just charging at the opponent to, well, take it down, not caring about how you do it. That's why Beldum (a mon that takes a really long time to come into its own, and can learn only one move) has it instead of Body Slam. Luvdisc is meant to be too incompetent and helpless to even learn Body Slam, but can upgrade Tackle into Take Down instead. Likewise, it learns Flail because it's a wild and desperate attack just like Take Down.
I feel like, due to how differently Wingull and Peliper play, it would make a good Versus video to pit them against each other. This is a rare case where an evolution is NOT an objective improvement. Just a thought.
I think Emerald Watson is officially recognized as a Nuzlocke killer 😂 and especially that the only decent ground type against it is Marshtomp or Geodude if you get one, so yeah I agree that Watson is the definitely the toughest gym leader in this gamen
You gotta wonder when gen 5 was being developed who it was at GameFreak that thought "you know what this franchise needs? TWO heart-shaped fish that 99% of players will never use!"
Since it still hurts me to see Swampert on the bottom of the tier list, I'm gonna leave some advice for the starters run we'll hopefully get in the future: 1- I think since most of Swampert's coverage moves are special, a special attack boosting nature would be good. Perhaps that would be good, to help you two shot Steven's Cradily with Ice beam. 2- Skip Brawly. Go back to him after you've defeated Wattson, who should be very easy with Marshtomp. That way you'll be overleveled, and won't get a reset on Brawly. 3- Don't forget Ice beam before fighting Winona. I think you forgot to get it in your Swampert run. With Ice beam, all her mon should be one shots. 4- Use dig against Norman. Idk how they do it, but if you time it right with Slaking's truant turns, he might never get a chance to attack you. With a soft sand attached (which you can get from a kid at the beach), dig should hopefully be enough. 5- The only advice I have for the 2nd rival fight on the bridge, is to be overleveled, and use rock tomb to lower Grovyle's speed, so that you can move 1st on the next turn, and get the 2 shot. 6- Glacia can be challenging with Swampert. So perhaps using brick-break might be good against her ice types. You can get the tm from a karate dude in the city of the last gym leader (I'm not good remembering city and town names in pokemon). 7- Tate and Liza are always difficult, and they're one of the reasons I think a sp. Attack boosting nature would be good, so that you'll hit harder with Surf, and the mystic water attached. If you can get the tm for rain dance, then even better. Rain dance+ mystic water+ a sp. Attack boosting nature+ a Swampert at Yellow or red health with torrent activated (once their attacks get you to low health and activate Swampert's ability). Yeah, Surf should destroy them. That's the best I can think of. The rest of the game should be a sweep. Roxanne should be easy. If you skip Brawly and go back after beating Wattson he should also be easy. Wattson should be a sweep, so should Flannery. Norman shouldn't be too challenging if you time yourself right with dig? Winona should also be a sweep with Ice beam. The twins are hard, but Surf and Ice beam should be good? Juan should be easy with Earthquake. Sidney is always easy, and Phoebe's goshts aren't all that bulky, so if you're at a decent enough lvl, Earthquake with the soft sand should be good to score one shots. Against Glacia Brick-break is commendable. Drake should be easy with Ice beam. Against Wallace, Ludicolo is the only challenge, and I think Ice beam is the best choice here. Again, you'll probably need good sp. Attack to 2 shot it. And against Steven, Cradily is the only challenge, cause the rest of his mons are one shots, with either Earthquake or Surf. That's why I think a + sp. Attack nature would also be good to do more damage on the Cradily with Ice beam. I mean, if Luvdisc could 2 shot it, so should Swampert. And that's all I've got. Pd: perhaps a Mild nature would be good? + sp. Attack and - defense. Swampert will certainly need its physical attack, so obviously we avoid modest. We don't want Swampert to have less Sp. Defense, so it won't take more damage from grass moves. And we don't want to lower its speed either, so quiet isn't a choice. If you asked me, either mild or lonely (+ attack - defense) are good for Swampert.
Someone at Gamefreak really said that a heart-shaped fish needed to exist, and when asked to do the stat spread, they said "it's a fast fish" and nothing else. "Hey let's make this really cute heart-shaped fish Pokemon" "Oh what are its stats?" "It's fast, that's it" "Uhh okay how about the moves it learns?" "Water gun and ice beam"
3 hours + I doubt it be anything less. I honestly liked the surprise in mid video but yeah...was right I wont say how long but it was more then 3 hours!

All of its Smogon entries make fun of poor Luvdisc. I’ve always liked it, inexplicably. It’s very cute! It’s one of the few Pokémon I truly think benefits from the shift to 3D models

Generally overlevelling has set in by the time I make it to Juan. I think that’s why it feels like Watson just hits so hard. The game doesn’t really provide you something to manage steel or electric types in this format.
I was about to suggest doing a run with that specific poochyena when he said it. Hype!
Like the video, Scott is torturing himself for our entertainment.
Oh my god I am **sooooo** glad someone else saw the foot as a mouth! I thought it was a mouth for probably over a decade! Wasn’t until seeing it as a 3d model I realised that was its leg!
Yup. Seeing the 3D model is what made me realize.
I haven’t seen that one. I’ll check it out.
Great stuff! Would be cool if moves had their accuracy displayed as well :3
Really cool run! I agree that Watson is always such an obstacle...
19:51 Imma pause the vid at the defeat of wattson. Well done, scott. Onto the rest of your torture adventure tomorrow!
It’s actually never required to fight Brawly since flash is the hm associated with getting his gym badge. In fact, the sixth gym badge is the only one that the game checks for when you get to the e4
Good thing that to even get to Winona you need Norman’s badge which requires the other four gym leaders’s badge before it. It is really clever.
@@iantaakalla8180 oh yeah the game has natural checks to the other badges through hms but the game checks for badge 6 because fly is not necessary
Interesting that the game only checks for badge six at the league. Makes sense though. It’d be funny if the game didn’t check for the second badge before Norman, then you could skip Brawley entirely.
Dont worry, Scott. The slateport story always escapes me, too. I always walk into the hideout thrice before realizing whats going on.
Luvdisc kinda looks like a heart-shaped bean. Therefore, I shall invoke a poem based on Kingdom Hearts III:
Roses are red
Luvdiscs are deviants
This looks like a good spot
To find some ingredients
"Now with the Kecleon out of my way it's time to face Winona"
Still can't find the door purely from the memory of Kecleon existing.
This little fishy had some suprisingly impressive moments
A Golden Kyle ✨️ appears "Behold the chosen one as he appears in a gold fury to smite the wicked sinful boulders of blocking!"
Kyle using Rock Smash is perfection
Time to Luvₜₕₑdisc.......
that sure is some nice® special defense
Cant wait for the shiny run!
Luvidisc is one of those pokemon i forget it exists from time to time
Watching this with my fiance over dinner. Thanks Scott :)
BTW, looking forwards to Pokemon Emerald with only 1 Shiny Kyle. Hope you let him evolve!
I will let him evolve ;)
Good job Kyle. The true MVP
Fun watch. Great video Scott.
yay i was there when you caught your first shiny in these runs, feelsgood.jpg
Catching a shiny in the safari zone must have been so tense. I get stressed when a Chansey shows up in gen1, a shiny is on a whole other level.
I'm so happy your first caught shiny from these runs is a shiny Poochyena since Mightyena might be my favorite Gen 3 pokemon.
I’m going to let it evolve when I do the playthrough ;)
Luvdisc bae beeee! Luvdisc, baby Luvdisc! Luv-disc is a little old place where, we can get togeth-er! ❤😍❤
Woooo!! Poochyena!! Great nickname name for it! 😁
You could say that luvdisk carries the ⭐power of love⭐
What a 'luvely' surprise, Scott! This'll be a great watch until my girlfriend comes home tonight. Thanks!
I feel like, due to how differently Wingull and Peliper play, it would make a good Versus video to pit them against each other. This is a rare case where an evolution is NOT an objective improvement.
Just a thought.
Can't wait to see some of the fighting types added this gen.
I should do a fighting type. Maybe Breloom
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon That would be great!
I always wonder if you ever find shiny I'm glad that you finally caught one woohoo
i used to always forget to go to Slateport, yes. sometimes i'd forget it was even a thing and i'd be like "MOVE STUPID GRUNTS"
Eyyy, it finally happened in one of these playthoughs!!
The Kyle x Valentine dynamic is very cute!! And fitting!
22:08 For a second, I thought you were going to answer "a miserable pile of secrets"
I Totally Fell In Love With The Shiny😍😍😍
Can I just say I appreciate that you capture the shiny pokemon? I hate seeing them be knocked out. I hope they find a home one way or another.
Slaking is the spirit animal of any teenager: loafing, confused and in love 😂
I think Emerald Watson is officially recognized as a Nuzlocke killer 😂 and especially that the only decent ground type against it is Marshtomp or Geodude if you get one, so yeah I agree that Watson is the definitely the toughest gym leader in this gamen
Brah! Appreciate the shout out. Very unexpected
I appreciate the long-time support. Btw, I will forever nickname my Raticates Stark.
You gotta wonder when gen 5 was being developed who it was at GameFreak that thought "you know what this franchise needs? TWO heart-shaped fish that 99% of players will never use!"
Since it still hurts me to see Swampert on the bottom of the tier list, I'm gonna leave some advice for the starters run we'll hopefully get in the future:
1- I think since most of Swampert's coverage moves are special, a special attack boosting nature would be good.
We will eventually get an updated starters video!
Kyle is the true hero of the story ngl xD
I’m commenting before watching it through…… I’m sorry for you man no words to say 😢😅😅
Someone at Gamefreak really said that a heart-shaped fish needed to exist, and when asked to do the stat spread, they said "it's a fast fish" and nothing else.
"Hey let's make this really cute heart-shaped fish Pokemon"
"Oh what are its stats?"
"It's fast, that's it"
"Uhh okay how about the moves it learns?"
"Water gun and ice beam"
Oh boy a Pokémon with stats rivaling Squirtle and Totodile alongside minimalistic movepool
Yep, definitely beating Rayquaza
I mean... ICE BEAM BITCH
3 hours + I doubt it be anything less. I honestly liked the surprise in mid video but yeah...was right I wont say how long but it was more then 3 hours!
I know you said something about nosepass's leg looking like a mouth in a past video 😂😂😂 i alway's thought it was a mouth in till you said something in that past video 🤣
Other Valentine's Day Pokemon for future years: Machamp (hugs) and Smoochum (kisses).
Good ideas!
this was my initial plan for a valentine video as well, but Volbeat and Illumise were just more attractive
@Scott's Thoughts you made a typo in your chart. Luvdisc finished at lvl 91, not 62.
Against Norman :
"What is Lovedisk ?
Norman don't hurt me,
Don't hurt me,
No more.
All of its Smogon entries make fun of poor Luvdisc. I’ve always liked it, inexplicably. It’s very cute! It’s one of the few Pokémon I truly think benefits from the shift to 3D models
Attract + parafusion is good for consitency but that leaves what damage move to use specially this Strat for Steven
