Important updates from ASUS in no particular order:
- The Zen 3+ model I've got here does not actually have USB 4, explains why my eGPU did not work. Zen 4 config should. The ASUS website has now been updated to correctly show this on the spec sheet.
- The 7600S has a 95W TGP, but the 7700S has a 120W TGP.
- Armoury Crate wording around standard and optimized modes will be updated to make it clearer.
- The 6 heatpipe cooler is confirmed only for the Zen 4 model, not the Zen 3+ one I've got here as I suspected, the ASUS website will change to reflect this.
- The two Type-C ports: I said one goes to the iGPU and the other dGPU, this is correct, but I mixed them up in the video, it's the opposite to what I said. The one closer to the front goes to dGPU, while the back is iGPU.
Is there any good cheaper options?
Well done with comment updates. Encouraging to see that you have communications back from laptop OEM
bosmang the 6800M is like 5% slower than 6850M ? , thanks
Every time I look up a laptop you already made a video about it and it’s amazing
Asus created a refresh of the A15 with the same 7735HS and the new RTX 4000 series GPUs this year
That's what I love about the ASUS TUF series, it doesn't look like a Gaming Laptop and you can take it to a Studio or College for classes and production work.
They're looking kinda gamery, but with that stealth gamery look which is honestly the best of both worlds - sleek, clean, and techy

Imagine caring about what others around you think about your laptop. Lmao
@@EngineerMikey5 We "care" because in a professional workspace the things you own say a lot about yourself.
And also, at least in my country, the less it stands out the lower the chance it gets stolen.
@@owoflux6025 The thing you own says a lot about you? God forbid everyone knows you play games to relax.
Despite having ordered a custom Lenovo Yoga 7i with 16 inch from 2022, I keep coming back to these videos just to see what is going on. Thank you for your informative work, especially when it came to 4080/4090 power to cost ratio for the laptop variants!
The A16 is much more appealing to me than the A15 because of the screen aspect ratio and more vertical resolution. I exclusively run Linux on my laptops and this is where AMD GPUs shine. However the fact the keyboard wasn't recognized is a bit concerning, though I'm sure it will get fixed at some point.
Very happy that Jarrod added information about dual-sided SSDs this year. Really, really appreciate it. More power.
Hopefully I can keep doing it, I only have one and it's my 4TB game drive that I test with so sometimes it's busy if we are doing a 25 game comparison lol
Really appreciate the effort going into these videos. Hope you can have another high capacity double-sided SSD.
Update: got a second 4TB drive mostly just so we can always do this lol.
Hi Jarrod, since I'm early this time, would like to thank you for making all these videos, they are very informative, and I love watching them all.
He has got us when it comes to making the most detailed and comprehensive laptop reviews 😊
@@Tirth-Patelthat’s so true, love the guy
Just a tip for anyone who just got the laptop, gaming performance is significant neutered unless you put the gpu in the highest output mode in armory crate, I went from 35 fps in destiny on medium @ 1200p to 140
That’s interesting. I uninstalled armory crate because so many people said it messes with game play. Since uninstalling I feel like fps has been pretty bad for me. May have to reinstall again
@@howtochristian2759I unindtalled armoury crate and downloaded g helper. I saw big fps differences g helper is much better.

What games do you play?
Also one thing not talked about in the review that I think is relevant. AMD has something called Radeon Chill, which lets you configure variable refresh-rate to save power. It actually works quite well particularly when paired with a FreeSync monitor. I use it in non-competitive (story) games. It can save a bunch of power.
This is on sale at Best Buy for $679 right now and for that price it seems like an incredible value
I just saw it too. Do you think its a good deal?
@@gykg3202 Good enough for me to buy it :-) Honestly though, I think it. It seems like a solid performer from all the reviews I’ve read and the few issues I’ve found have work arounds. I’ve been wanting an all AMD model for Linux since GeForce has always given me difficulty. For the most the RX 7700S looks to be on par with the 4060 easily running game at 1080p ultra settings. It doesn’t hurt too that design is less conspicuous compared to most gaming laptops. If I run into any issues when I set it up tomorrow I’ll let you know
@@gykg3202 I think it’s well worth it. The same laptop used on eBay runs for 750+ used. You won’t find an equivalent new laptop on sale below $800 with the same performance
Ended up buying it, picking up today.
@@gykg3202saw it on best buy as well, how is it so far?
Honestly, the all-AMD load out does mean that this will likely work really well as a Linux machine, at least as long as there's kernel support for the Wifi chip.
King for SteamOS aswell with system wide FSR
Should be no problem if it uses Intel or Qualcomm chips...
I just bought this laptop about a week ago, and it seems to be a pretty plug and play experience so far with the big caveat being the internal laptop keyboard not working at all (I tried tweaking kernel params and looking at various patches but no luck so far). I have dual boot on it with NixOS and it is working great!
@@ethangill7974 just out of curiosity, while nixos ain't no reference, how is switchable grafics behaviour and vfio acpi calls for it? (in case you tested this that is xd)
@@ethangill7974 did you try using a rolling release distro like Arch?
Hello Jarrod's Tech, I just want to thank you for making this kinds of videos for people who are buying laptops like me to make a better purchase decisions. Which helped me picked up a laptop at a decent price and specs.
Sincerly John
If you have a 6700S laptop with a Rembrandt CPU, I would really love to an equalized power limits comparison between 6700S and 7600S, basically a head to head "cut-down N23 vs cut-down N33" battle. N23 vs N33 is rather interesting in general because the two GPUs have near identical configs. Both have 32CUs/16WGPs split across 4 shader arrays/2 shader engines. Both have 32MB of Infinity Cache and a 128b GDDR6 memory bus. Both are based on a 7nm class process node (N33 is technically on N6, but the node is *very* similar to N7P in terms of both power and performance characteristics). N23 vs N33 is essentially a direct RDNA2 vs RDNA3 architecture battle.
It's nice that you included Linux support in the review!
I have had this laptop for about a week now and it's absolutely amazing

Thank you! And here I was finding 7600S benchmark, Of course I can count on you
I'm glad TUF is improving. F15 (2022) was a great improvement. I hope it becomes even better in the following five years when I need to change it.
Awesome review. Hope you get the 4070 TUF for review too at some point. The price is really attractive in my country, as in it cost only slightly more than my 2021 model even with all the crazy pricing of GPUs these days.
whaaaaaaaat?
Managed to snag one of these for ~$700 on sale for school (and as a supplement to my more powerful desktop). Can't wait for it to arrive!
How's urs? Mine display dead after 4th month
Considering the pricing (at the moment), and the efficiency of the AMD, and how quiet it is, this is a good step forward for AMD. Their higher tiered Ryzen 9 and Radeon options still need to be competitive though. Also, this Cpu and Gpu are sporting the s moniker, like last year, does this basically mean smaller less wattage versions? Could you say that this Asus TUF is using Ultrabook hardware?
yep
Hell's teeth, freaking finally. I hope we get some more Advantage Editions actually purchasable.
I bought this laptop and performance wise it's quite good but it just feels so buggy and unstable sometimes with heaps of issues that require troubleshooting. For example, when connecting to my dock via the front USB C port the screens wouldn't turn on, but when connecting to the back port they do. I "fixed" the issue by uninstalling Armour Crate and now it works. Pretty ridiculous that I have to uninstall Asus' own software to get the laptop to work! (But now I no longer can use the MUX switch).
Other random issues I've had which I still haven't been able to resolve:
-Screen often won't turn off after specified time in power settings
-Sometimes immediately wakes after putting it in hibernate
-When wirelessly casting to my TV the video often freezes after ~20min forcing me to recast
-When I alt tab out of some games my web browser flickers black unless I turn hardware acceleration off
I really wish Asus could improve their QC, otherwise this would've been a great laptop for the price
i was looking at this laptop as my next device since its reveal, thanks for the video.
Curious to see what 7600/xt chips on desktop would be like. And how would AMD price them
Just bought this laptop for $809 USD from BB, and what a deal! This thing is awesome! I’ll be using it for professional work throughout the day, but there will be break periods in between, so I didn’t want to just get a basic business laptop. I was astounded to find hooking it up to my 4K monitor that I was able to get 60fps+ in CP77, Control, and Dirt Rally 2.0 with moderate settings / FSR, and of course using the standard 1200p monitor, it performs outstandingly. Absolute unit, this.
There is no way you are getting 60 fps at 4k in cp2077 why do people need to lie and exagerrate everything to the point they look stupid
@@samgoff5289 I’m confused, I specified I’m using FSR with modified graphics settings? It holds really well around or a touch above 60fps that way

Hi I just bought this laptop and while playing games cpu temp go up to 85 Celsius. Is this normal? Also do you use any cooling pad?
Another great video Jarrod. I nearly chose last years A16. But ended up getting Rog strix With ryzen 7 and 3060. I would chose an ASUs product over an MSI any day off the week.
So do the legends and therefore light blocking still rub off the keyboard in a few months of use, like previous TUF? Needing silicon keyboard covers, which raises temps, sucks.
I'm really looking forward to framework 16" with gpu, as where I'll go from my current Asus TUF. I guess that'll be 1-2 years from now.
Hi Jarrod awesome video! Would you choose A16 or A15? If it’s a15, the intel i7 12gen or the ryzen 7 6600 model? Specifically for fortnite
why not, I switched from intel/gtx based laptop to full AMD (2x times) and I was very surprised. first was 3550H/rx560x (650€) and now 5600H/rx6600m (800€). diffidently worth the money.
It was a good review overall but I would like to suggest using fedora as the main OS for newer Asus' laptops. The latest kernel coupled with asuslinux support to control rgb, performance using their utilities is better documented for fedora.
plus one for this, but i don't think the request will be listened to.
I just bought a Razer Blade, however I keep watching Jarrod’s channel.
Great Review as always. please review the Acer Nitro 16
The new GPU's have me pretty excited. Can't wait to see the g14!
15:00 I'm blue, da ba dee, da ba di...
Though to be fair, this laptop would probably be a beast in Linux as no Nvidia!
Edit: It seems that the kernel might not yet know about this laptop and/or the newer Radeon graphics. It might need a bit more time for the kernel to catch up to the hardware.
the fans maxing out at 48dB doesnt make a lot of sense, and I think last year did it better. the fans would be a lot quieter in performance mode than in turbo, so you had a choice. now youre forced to be quieter and have worse temps even if the noise doesnt bother you
17:48 those are the scores for the iGPU 680M onboard the 7735HS. For whatever reason your system wasn't using the 7600s.
It would be interesting to see a comparison of the AMD 6000 series, AMD 7000 series, Nvidia 3000 series, and Nvidia 4000 series graphics with the power limited at various wattages.
Some quick math shows the 7600S as efficient as the 4090 (avg FPS per watt).
really? same power efficient?
@@amrizalds9108 yeah just about! Take the average FPS for a game (Cyberpunk for example) and divide it by the average power (watts) it used for that game.
Hi Jarrod, thanks for the review! I actually bought previous generation of A15 with 3070nvidia graphics cards, and i noticed that some of electronics components (located near graphic chip) are making a very uncomfortable low humming noise. Its sounds like a plasma lighter if you know what i mean, just much quieter. And i see that this is quite a common problem with a lot of Asus laptops.
If you can add this little test in the future, just launch a game on a cold laptop and try to listen to sounds near keyboard (its better to test on cold laptop because you won’t hear fans). I is really annoying problem, and for some people it may sound like laptop is a bout to die ( mine work just fine over a year now).
Also, i think i shall also point one thing up - DO NOT clean your keyboard with anything then just a dry cloth! If you use even slightly aggressive chemicals like windows cleaner - the prints on these key’s will deteriorate immediately. And this is too, a very disappointing thing(
Also be aware that wifi6 cards on this laptops are usually bad quality - and you will experience some wifi disconnections here and there.
But still, A15 is one of the best laptops I’ve ever had)
Coil whine is hard to test because it can differ per model/unit. I bought 4 (!) Legion 5 Pros to find one without it (buy-try-return cycles).
If its only when fans are low and under heavy usage then its almost inevitable, 100% usage with minimum fans is very unique (at first I though I had a bee inside laptop 😂). But if its always when fans are low, and then its return time.
@@RazielXT well yeah, you can hide this sound simply by using heaphones. But still, it may come up even where there is not much load, it makes a funny sound in photoshop - as you drag and paint with brush across the paper it will sound accordingly to the speed of mouse cursor 😅) Also, Asus "silent" mode is pretty much what it says - it wont turn fans until cpu/gpu starts to get really hot, and even when it does - its so silent, that you can hear the coils overpower the low fan humming.
I have the 2021 ASUS Tuf A17 and I can relate to the WiFi disconnection issues. Although they generally get fixed, but it can sometimes be a hassle.
you can mitigate coil while with hot glue
@@praisetheomnisciah Yea thats definitely annoying. My (final) laptop thankfully doesnt have such sensitive gpu, but I do hear it when I turn on game or benchmark, simply when it jumps to full load and fans are still off/low. Also 3070 btw
Hi jarrod, really love ur content and u helped me out a lot in buying a laptop
I recently got the legion 5i pro with i7 and 3070ti, its great however sometimes i feel the colors on the display are a bit yellowish or faint
Any advice on how to fix it ?
Can't wait to see how much the improvement from 6nm Zen3+ to 4nm Zen4 Mobile in terms of performance and battery life
Still a little bit skeptical but I expect much better improvement
battery life is already fantastic. AMD would have to do some black magic in order to improve even further
@@GewelReal Shifting to arm is one way, but windows needs to be refined and modified to it though.
it isn’t zen 4 lol, 7735 = zen 3
@@electrex299 I mean I wait for the 7040 series benchmark, which is Zen 4, and the benchmark comparison vs Zen 3 and Zen 3+

Asus Tuf A16 Thermal Throttling
I just got the laptop a few days ago. It’s been pretty amazing so far.
One thing I’m noticing in games that the cpu (amd 7 7735hs) reaches about 95 Celsius in 30-50% usage and suddenly the games start stuttering a lil bit.
Ik its normal for modern cpus to run a little bit hotter. But is it normal in only 30 to 50% usage?
Should I worry? Btw I ran all the benchmarks and they’re all within normal limits.
Hi jarrod, I am on the fence between 2022 m16, and this year tuf a16 since the price range is the same. Can you give me a pointer / which one to choose?
Hopefully you can also review the Zen4/7940HS + RX 7700S (& maybe w/ upgraded RAM, as those have native 5600MTs support but the A16 only ships with 4800) when it becomes available.
Love your vids thanks so much!! What's the max ram / speed you can throw into the two slots and any wifi card you would recommend? I've never upgraded a wifi card and not sure if I can just pick any 6E card
How is the AV1 support on the new mobile GPUs? On paper they should support AV1 encode but how is the actual performance. If it's good then I would upgrade to the new gen rather than last gen.
Waiting for the top end spec of this with a 7700s and 7940hs. If it's a ~20% power increase with a better, QHD display, it's an instant buy from me
@captain_morgan yes, but that plus a much better CPU (and maybe even the extra Ram) should result in a significant difference. Just wish that the vram was slightly higher. It would've been more future proof
7600m XT = 7700S.
Considering this is the bottom model (there are 2 models with Zen 4 and one of them with a more powerful gpu), not bad at all! Will be definitely better than 4050 laptops, while likely cheaper! I wish this (and Zen 4) CPUs were more common without dedicated graphics...
Imagine a thin and light with just a ryzen 7040 series APU for like $500. Portable for people who want it, cheap with performance, and should have good battery life.
@@gilbertley1309 that will happen next year when Zen 4 no longer is the newest gen, but sad that we have to wait
Hi Jarrod, I have a question - Would you buy a RTX3080ti 16GB Laptop (MSI Raider GE67HX) which has discounted price similar to that to Raider GE68HX RTX 4070? Also to mention that a RTX 4080 desktop build is costing similar to that laptop
I'm just happy to see the TUF finally move on to 16:10 aspect ratio and I maintain that in Sandstorm, it's the prettiest gaming laptop. Legions are clean and corporate, ROGs are flamboyant, Dells are colourful but this TUF is genuinely pretty. Though this model is basically a TUF Dash laptop with such low TGP. Very strange.

@@cotasa yes. The country IS huge though, so civil life continues on in most regions. I won't lie - the money is tight, way worse than 2014-2015. Pricy laptops appear on our market because we have pretty huge IT industry (for the country) so people need some sort of GPU/CPU powerful laptops for work. People do buy them for gaming too. Plenty of people started living the moment - hence why so many sales of XBOX, PS5 and gaming laptops.

Priced a bit higher given last gen laptop going for sale like aero 16 with 3070ti was $1200. G14 was$1100.
Hai Jarrod, could you retest again RX7600s with latest AMD Adrenaline that includes support for AMD Radeon Anti Lag, AMD Radeon Boost and HYPR-RXand also FSR 3.0? Just wanna know if this GPU capable to match a RTX 4060 mobile
stuck between this and the asus rog strix g16. which would be better for both gaming and use for college?
Can you Test thermals while gaming
Not all games
Just choose one game and put the results with the combined GPU and CPU stress test
hey jarrod! since my laptop came to my house i watched right away your video to set up a new laptop and it helps me alot! the only thing i am thinking is that should i use turbo mode when gaming or performance mode? i am using asus tuf f15
It's really up to you. You can see an example of how they differ in a game at 9:25
Hi Jorrod , for 500-700 $ what gaming laptop would you suggest?
Which one would you choose, this one, legion 5, or loq with 4050?
Thumbs up for latencymon testing!
Hey Jarrod! Please do some comparisons of Rtx 4060 with Rtx 3070 if possible! Thank you 😊
Hi Jarrod, do you have any UK laptop deals available? Thank you!
Hello Jared, is the youtube test 1080 60fps video? Also would you be able to add a web browsing battery test? From what ive seen laptops battery life vary widely between a video and browser test.
How I do the battery testing can be found here: jarrods.tech/list-of-laptop-battery-life/
I’m very undecided between this and the Lenovo legion 5 slim. I can get this for the same price but with the ryzen 9 7940hs and a 240hz screen
Okay sooo Jarrod should i choose scar g16 over the asus tuf like bec of scar not throttling ig as scar comes with 4050 and tuf with 4070
Hi Jarrod , can you test AV1 encoding performance of 7600s against rtx 4080 and 4050. Reviewers are saying AMD'S AV1 is as good as nvidia in 7900xtx. Is that's true in 7600s and upcoming pheonix APU 7940hs as well.
Hi Jarrod, just curious if you will be doing a review on the new G16 or M16 since I may be considering one of them based on your review thanks 🙏
Planning on it, though I'm not sure when I'll have either.
Hello Sir! Would like to ask something: In 2021 Dec I bought an Asus Tuf Gaming f15 so i can play D2R on the highest settings available. Unfortunately after a few months it started to crash with immense fps lags. Not to mention suddenly my BIOS operation from 2.6 seconds reached 18.6 seconds which i cant really now how could that happened. Would like to ask for some advice and tips. I already checked the whole internet what could cause these with no answer for my problems. If there is something i can do against it without sending back it would be awesome. (Still have warranty until this year Dec | Also if i open it for a cleaning or getting a 2nd SSD into or some memory upgrade does my warranty will be gone?) Thanks for your answers in advance! A desperate new Subscriber \m/ Stay METAL
Still waiting for Razer Blade 16 review with Mini-Led or 4080 GPU!
