Until today, I didn’t realize I need a surger. Thanks! 🤣. Fabric is glorious!

So great that your eye is healing up so quickly, Jen! I LOVE your Merrimekko top. I always wear solids and almost always dark but you've inspired me. Your serger is so fun! I'm glad you took the plunge with us here to cheer you on. I have never used a serger but often thought about trying one (I"ve been sewing for many decades) so you've inspired me there too. Your dress is turning out so well!! Zero waste, IKEA bedding, simple design and SO CUTE!!! Have fun at the pool! Thank you so much for all your inspiration to get going on things around here, Jen!! LOVE your Saturday videos and that you're branching out from knitting yet knitting (and Dinah!) too

Quick tip next time you want to change your serger thread, you can clip the old color and tie your new color to the already threaded strands and then sew on a scrap piece of fabric until the new thread takes over.

This is exactly what I do too. I'm too lazy to start from scratch, so I use a magic knot to join the old and new colour. This is especially for loopers and the holes are large enough for the knot to pass through. The needles are easier to thread. Well done on using the serger.

I was just going to say this! Also, Jen, I used to enjoy doing narrow rolled hem and made lots of napkins in cottons- no more paper napkins to toss!

Impressive! Good to see how a serger is used to add a more finished look!

lol when I was a kid my stepdad got my mom a serger and even though she was an excellent sewist and even still sews, she was too intimidated to learn how to use it and never did ha ha. This was in the pre-UA-cam days but still, no excuse!

Don’t know where my first comment went, I only see Top and Newest…? but I was saying: Hi Jen ! Glad to hear you didn’t hurt your eye. The black eye looks much better now. And other stuff I forget now 😂

Wow! Fabulous dress. I love using bed linens to sew clothing. Great job conquering your serger. You will come to love it more and more. Thanks for recording this and sharing your great ideas and enthusiasm.

Lol! I can relate: I have had an electric pressure canner for a year, and I have been too intimidated to turn it on! Good for you for gathering up your courage! And in front of all us to boot. The dress looks great! Nice to see Dinah - she is your co-star!

Thanks for the inspiration!! I have a commercial Singer sewing machine I have never used, I acquired it 20 years ago! I may pull it out and see if I can figure it out. I have only taken one sewing class so it is intimidating! Your dress looks fabulous!

For your seed stitch sweater, maybe block your sleeves before you start in on the last ball of yarn-- they may well grow and not need as much yarn.♥

So this is going to be a multiple comments week 😅 the signature colour thread for the serger is such a good idea I will have to change my boring white for a blue thread I think. Other tip: practice changing tension on a piece of scrap to see how this affects the stitches. It will help with troubleshooting in the future. The threading on my machine is not easy either for one of the looper (I think the lower) that’s where the tweezers come handy. The dress pattern seems pretty easy. I wonder how it would look if you wore it with a belt. It would give you 2 looks😊

When you had issues with the serger I was like:Jen! Check your tension! But you figured it out like a champ. Great job! I am excited to see the dress next week. I think I’ll do some sewing too , been meaning to but procrastinated but seeing your progress is motivating me. Have a good week!

This was soooo much fun. I had my daughter order the yellow thread for my serger. The 😂one thread color is perfect idea. You are such an inspiration

I have the same serger for 3 years now and I find that keeping all the tensions at 4 is the way to go. Also, if you are serging knits you might want to buy stretch thread for the loopers. I use maxi lock stretch thread for the loopers when sewing knits. This way the thread moves with the knit fabrics and won't break. I purchase my threads online from Wawak (great prices) and the delivery is quick.

Yes, pick a color you can use so you don’t have to rethread it every time.

The Marrimekko top is GORGEOUS! I so appreciate how you take us thru your process. You are fearless and it's a great example. I love that all 3 of you were working on your own art projects. Can't wait to see Lo's jacket! 😊

You have a large Jo Anns. ‼️ Your yarn section and the thread wall are so big. I think because I live in hot Houston,TX they don’t stock a lot of yarns. I buy mostly from the internet 🧶🧶

Omg where is that Joann’s located? Our Ames location is so lacking. Love how your dress is turning out. I’ve been scared to buy a serger for that same reason. This makes me want one.
