    Yikes! I also haven't thought about listing yarn (fabric, sewing machines etc.) on my insurance, but have wondered who I would find to appreciate it all when I'm gone. We must think alike. Thanks for another informative and delightful video. Always look forward to a new episode. My cat also loves to sneak into the loops of my knitting needles...it can be disastrous if you realize too late!

      I had never thought about it!! (But now I’m thinking about it.) My husband and I both have some things we probably need to do inventory for … ahh, hobbies. And yes - I watch my circular knitting projects more carefully now. 😂 My cat wants to be in the center of my lap, as close to me as possible and she’ll go through anything to get there. 😊

    Welcome to the world of being a crazy cat lady😂. I never had a Siamese, but I understand that they are the smartest of all cats. I had a purebred Maine coon cat years ago, and he was also very intelligent, but kind of did his own thing. All my other cats over the years since childhood had been rescues, like my last cat Cleo who recently passed. She was really sweet as a kitten, but didn’t have much use for me after I started having dogs. But she was very sweet at the end, and let me hold her (she was not the cuddly type of cat ) which is a very precious memory to me.

    I have a lot of Rowan yarn too. I now have my yarn organized in weights except for my one bin of Felted Tweed. Let’s agree not to judge each other. 😄💕🧶 my bins are not clear and so I was never really using my stash so last fall i inventoried my yarn, organized it in weight per bin, and then put info about yarn on paper per weight and included yarn company & yarn name, colour, and how many yards I have. So much easier and now I can shop via my stash. Very happy.

    OK, I finished watching now. I didn't know you'd made a knitting planner! So cool! I found it on Amazon. :D. I have to look at Mary Maxim patterns now. lol! Love that one you got! I could do it and color it in my cat's colors. (She's mostly white with black spots, I forget what that's called.). Sounds like Dinah is super smart. Our cat meows at us a lot to tell us things too, often to scold us. lol! She's a diva, and not friendly like your Dinah. I'd never thought of putting my yarn etc onto our insurance! Yikes! I was told to do that with my collectibles and musical instruments, so we did, but I hadn't thought of my stash! Fun podcast!!!

      Aww, thanks - the planner is fun (and glad you found it on Amazon!) As for Mary Maxim and your cat ... they have a pattern for that, and you could adjust as necessary. They have a calico cat one too! But here's the black and white ... 😂www.marymaxim.com/products/black-and-white-cat-pullover-pattern www.marymaxim.com/products/black-and-white-cat-pullover-pattern Sounds like a bunch of us are thinking about listing our stash on insurance now ... interesting, huh!? Thanks for watching!

    This was a fun Q and A. Love the knitting planner, neat idea to use it for any type of creative endeavor, too. Did crocheters ever request one?
    Re spiral binding: I agree, a planner that can lay flat is so helpful. Spiral binding would give a whole different look to the physical book, and may take away from the pleasing, minimalist qualities of the design. Unless you found some yellow spirals to match the interior yellow ink. Have you thought about “lay flat binding”? It has been so long since I spec’d a perfect bound book. I remember designing 192-page, data-filled books that needed flexible spines that wouldn’t crack. There must be something similar these days….

    • @JenGeigleyKnits
      @JenGeigleyKnits  4 місяці тому

      spiral binding would be so much better! still looking for a good, cost-efficient way to do that... and no, I never heard from crocheters about the planner but that would be an easy option to make if I do another round of printing!

    Jen, I am enjoying your podcast enormously. I love your creative, open-minded but down-to-earth nature. I am an older knitter, so most of my “podcast buddies” are closer to my daughters in age, but I just love that knitterly friendships transcend age. I actually love learning from younger folks especially, because it gives me such faith in the future.
    Keep on doing what you’re doing. You have a unique voice to share.❤️

      Aww Nancy - you are too kind! I can't tell you how silly I feel sometimes making videos (something I never, ever thought I would do.) But they are fun to share, and I love watching other knitters' videos too. It's just fun to knit and watch other people talk about knitting and crochet! I'm proud to be your podcast buddy. 😊 Knitting has a way of bringing us all together, all age groups and backgrounds and interests ... I love that. Thank you so much for watching!!

I had cats as a kid, and we've fostered ... but this has been a long time coming!

    Such a GREAT Saturday video, Jen!!! So many fantastic topics covered! Thank you for your explanation of how you got started designing. I LOVE how it was an accidental beginning. I've been knitting for decades and only just started playing around with changing anything about any pattern. Thank you for your inspiration. It is so gratifying to me that your ways of stash and knitting organization is very much like mine . I am glad you brought up the feel of various yarns and how they feel on your skin. I feel the same as you about mohair and 'scratchy' yarn. Dinah content is so lovely. Welcome to cat world!! A live would be awesome !!

    Hey! Would love a live chat, do it! Your Saturday posts are a weekly highlight. Also love your planner, will check out your website for availability. No to having current insurance on my stash, which I have a room(s), gaah, there is no way I could take it all with me in an emergency. My storage mimics yours. Needles are kept in tins, notions are all in zippered bags in baskets, specific projects bagged or toted as well. Tape measures stashed in every room, love them even though they keep disappearing. Thanks for Knitting for Food, pretty amazing what we can do when we come together. And you are definitely not a crazy cat woman : ) Happy week!

    • @JenGeigleyKnits
      @JenGeigleyKnits  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi - yes, it's that same style! We love that fireplace ... it was a lucky craigslist score a few years ago. It's a Preway fireplace (we think from the late 60s or 70s) and it's in great shape. The fun thing about it is it's electric too .. so you can plug it in and it's like a space heater, with a fake 'fire' inside. So, so fun. For that reason, we didn't actually install it through our 'real' fireplace, although we could someday. The Robinia is SO cool - I've had my eye on that one too. It would be great in yellow! (And a cat sweater of some kind is definitely happening sometime.)

    Can relate about the disappearing tape measures! One year, we got the kids their own as stocking stuffers, but to no avail--those vanished, too!! I have a question for your next Q & A: how do you handle negativity in online comments, here or elsewhere, related to your patterns or videos? I think so many folks are unwilling to put themselves out there, because it feels like exposing yourself to just...the worst. (But also the best? I know it's always both.) I'm curious to know where content creators find the resiliency to keep showing up, and what their strategies are for protecting themselves.

    My stash - mostly in those huge zippered Ikea bags, by yarn weight primarily; and a couple of bins in a kalax system. I have a couple of smaller zippered Ikea bags that I store sweaters quantities in. My stash accumulation comes mostly from the textile center garage sale, so I have those Ikea bags to keep yarn types (jamison type wool for example) until I have enough to knit a sweater. I too LOVE Bookhou, and have one precious notions/tool pouch from her, and her winter book - which I am in the process of making so many things from.
