Defender 110 Camper Sleeping setup | Part 2 The Evolution

- asimplyfab.life/ This is the follow-on from the previous video where we take another look at our camping set-up in our Defender 110. Check out part 1: • Sleeping in your Land ...
After two weeks on the road, we are getting to grips with sleeping inside the car as a camper while being efficient in our packing and have managed to get the set-up and break-down to a couple of minutes.
The major change, making it very comfortable is the addition of the flaps that fold over the front seats. This adds considerable length to the 'sleeping area' in the back of a 110 turning it into a very efficient camper setup.
Let us know down below how you have your camping gear installed in your car...
Thanks for watching!

Nice simple setup you have, very cool! Take care and stay safe during these crazy times, the world has gone mad
Thanks! You stay safe too! Strange times...
“The only problem is you can’t drink the beer”. Cracked me up!
😂😅
Nice one guys 👍
Great set up. Used to do a similar thing for my & my dog in a 90. Was great for one person & dawg. Went round France with that set up to. Happy dayz😊 oh & I’m keep rolling
Nice! 👍
Hi I messaged you a few weeks back regarding your wheels, I picked up a set just the same with some nice all terrain tyres on them, drives much better with them on. I plan in the future to go camping in mine, 110 like yours. We just need this virus to get sorted first☹️ good video 🙂👍
Thanks. Great on the wheels 👌😎!
Love the wooden improvisation bits, ‘Boer maak n’ plan’ stuff. 😀
You know how it goes... we always leave it till the day before the big trip - when EVERYTHING needs to get done😅😀
'...twee skroewe en drie moere... en 'n laaaang stuk draad...!😂 (if memory serves). Cheers for that 👍
Nice simple setup,
in our 110 we have the whole RH side as storage shelving and there is a bed frame on the LH side which sides out like a futon from sofa mode to bed mode. So slightly narrower than the full width bed you have, works out as about 3/4 width bed so a small double.
we've managed to squeeze myself, the mrs and the german shepherd inside for sleeping, with the seats still upright, however I'm just under 6 ft so plenty of length.
planning on a 'drive lodge' pop top roof conversion eventually. but have the tentbox hardshell roof tent on the top for when the weather is nice for those rare few days a year here at the england/scotland borders
We saw a parked 110 with a similar setup as you're describing during our Spain trip last year September - at 'Fort Bravo'👍 (as described in another video). Was that you?🤔😀 Good setup - less width, sure. But you can access everything if needed.
@@ASimplyFabLife Afraid it wasnt us mate, I've yet to travel through Spain in the landy!
if you dont mind me asking, what are you doing for work while on the road?
I find myself really wanting to get on some London distance trips, however having a full time job affects going on a trip any longer than a week
@@AJBAdventures We manage websites and do their social media (as well as ours): instagram, facebook etc. Keeps us mobile 🚙👍😎
@@ASimplyFabLife brilliant!
keep trying to think of jobs that allow long term overlanding!
San Miguel beer 😍
👌😍
I totally get moving one bed section out , Its no fun moving about when its a double bed , Great at night but sucks during the day :)
Compromise...👍
Nice setup. I wonder if I can do the same with our RRC.
🤔 that would make an interesting series!👍👍👍
@@ASimplyFabLife hmmm, filming that progress......Perhaps :)
Looks great. What is the roof lining made of? Is it flexible by board?
It is a type of thick board (cardboard) covered in vinyl. Nicely done
@@ASimplyFabLife
Ah right like cardboard packaging? I was wondering if it was that flexible ply wood you can get. I would really like to do something like this myself. I don't think I would have a hope of doing it as nicely as yours though, that looks really nice job. 👍🏻
Verry cool setup! How much sleeping space is there? Im 2meters tall, would i fit in there? Im considering to buy a Defender as well. Thanks!
Absolutely, I am not as tall but at 6'2 have no problem. Also consider that, in this form, we are not even usiing the full length of the rear compartment. At around 2:00 you can see a bag and a cap on the right below the cupboard. This whole area is about 40 cm of extra length that could be used as bed space as well. Btw, the length of the 'bin'/'rear compartment on a 110 is about 6' witt the seats in 'driving' position. A 110 is arguably one of the most practical camping/overland/expedition vehicles out there - you can use ALL of the space since it is so boxy in shape and there's not much interior trim. Also consider checking out my other video(s) for Landy owner tips, like this one (this guy is also two metres tall): ua-cam.com/video/RLuOVoGRDBs/v-deo.html or the flip flop video: ua-cam.com/video/V1YmigSfyws/v-deo.html Cheers!
Hello, where or how did you make your folding center seat? All the ones I have ever seen are fixed
This is a non-standard modification done by the previous owner so I am afraid I don't know but... It looks like they cut the backrest tubes at about seat-cushion height then flattened the tubes and used some bolts as the hinging mechanism. Probably used the seatback from a different seat to keep the backrest height the same as the two front seats...
What brand/make is the mattress you zip together?
Quecha Arpenaz Comfort 65 from Decathlon - super comfy 👍😎
Marcel (and Vic), i wonder why you have this box (just on right of 5th door)?
I can see that you loose "bed length" and that you have to fold front seats to make up for the length - to me this gets things complicated
I slept (in my Defender 110) with both center bed and side bed setups, and if I remember correctly it measures 195 cm from back of front seats to the 5th door.
I get tired, while watching you set up the bed 😍
That box (like the whole interior) was done by the first owner for his travels across Africa and Mongolia. I think it was for his shirts to hang neatly 😉. We kept it as a cupboard for our essential things (kettle, cups, campingaz, matches etc...)
@@overnighter 😅😂👍
I enjoyed seeing your setup Happy travels & enjoy the beers :) If you get time please check out my landrover woodburner stove for my winter camping :).
Checked it out 👍👍👍 Genius😍
