      @@stephenyoung494 that's great to hear, Stephen! trying to narrow down what it is you want on the layout design side is one of the hardest parts. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions pop up if and when you decide to take on your own build - happy to help where we can! Ya - I also wanted to have my Ali-Cab Canopy Camper useable when the pop top was down. Except I found a great quality used office chair (hacked it to an inch of its life-:). With this chair I can lower it so my head clears when PT is down. & bonus you have a very comfortable ergonomic tilting lounging chair to chill in 24/7.

    If you can't fit it in the bag, it has to stay home. That's the right attitude. It's still a Landi, not a converted school-bus. Some people choose a larger vehicle, cause they can't fit all their bits and pieces in a normal size camper. For me, the best part of your camper is the water filtration system. That gives you endless options to pick up some water from any river or creek. I might even copy that for my camper this year. Thanks for all this insight of your camper. Good luck with some more trips and have fun and enjoy nature.

    • @EXPEDITIONROVE
      @EXPEDITIONROVE  2 роки тому

      Love that you caught that! That single "rule of thumb" has been so handy for us when packing and deciding what goes and what stays. So simple, yet so effective.
      And I can't recommend the water filtration system enough. Here's a breakdown of the products we used:
      Portable water filtration: www.guzzleh2o.com/products/stream
      Built-in water filtration: www.guzzleh2o.com/collections/stealth-point-of-use-series/products/stealth
      If you are ever curious on the other products on the build, we made our excel doc public. Hoping it helps others save some time on the research side of things: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRFisndHnpXPR17DSLjHcd3NaGGftLz8IlGtEqzno5l89F2ljsjhDPpQvUa7Nidwwe6D_bhsoVCpvM8/pubhtml

    We too are thinking of using this video as a catalyst for our Defender 110 build. Our only reason for not yet considering the Alumi-Cab, other than cost…how our 40kg American Bully will be able to get up into the Alumi-Cab bed. Trying to conceptualize a shelving solution that would enable her to get up to and down from the bed on her own.

    Really well thought out build. While I don't have a defender I have built out my travel vehicle with similar ideas, no huge tires or lift kit, keep things fairly simple and functional and upgrade as needed. No point in dumping all your money into a vehicle then having no money or time to use it.

    So many good nuggets of advice😊👍
    We are in the UK and looking for a 110 to start to build up for two and two dogs🐶
    What are your thoughts on the engine? Not sure which way to go. 300tdi, td5 or newer puma?
    All pluses and minuses. The hard part is finding an older well preserved truck.
    All exciting and once again so good to see a well put together and sorted truck like yours.
    Wishing you many wonderful future adventures 😁🚒🖐️

    • @EXPEDITIONROVE
      @EXPEDITIONROVE  2 роки тому +1

      All depends on your budget really, I’d probably say if you plan on taking it to far flung corners of the world a 300tdi in good condition or fully rebuilt would be best. But if you don’t really want to rebuild you’re more likely to get a Puma with a better body condition and lower mileage.
      The Defender market is really all over the place, my advice would be don’t worry about the age of the Defender as even the newest defender is about 7 years old now and things will need replacing on it, so just spend your time looking for one that’s been well looked after. A 1990 rebuilt Defender is a better buy than your average 2015 Defender in my opinion.

    Hi, I followed your set up and it is impressive. I own a td5 1999 and I have just put up a new inside. I installed also the electric cooker with 1800W and a 210Ah lithium batterie. The converter has 2000W permanent and 6000W peak. After our first 3 weeks test we had problems between the 2 batteries and the fuse of the Relais 60A went of several times.
    Could you perhaps help me how I can put up the system like you have it ????
    Thank you very much
    Kind regards
    Ulli

    Hey guys great build, I love it!! question: Is there any reason, in particular, y'all chose 2000 w cap for your solar? eg safety based on the size of your home.

      Thank you! We went with a 2000W inverter because the highest powered item we have is our induction cooktop at 1500W. Anything above 2000W for our current setup would have been overkill and since we're tight on space it made sense to stick to the smaller 2000W inverter. If we had any appliances that were at the 1800W mark or higher we would have gone with a high capacity inverter. Hope this helps!

      Hey! Glad you enjoyed it! Are you looking for the figures for just what we spent on the the interior cabinetry, or a rundown on everything including the roof conversion, products (fridge, sink, induction, battery setup, solar, etc)? I don't have it all priced up but it's something I could pull together pretty easily I think!

      . Would be lovely of you.

    • @EXPEDITIONROVE
      @EXPEDITIONROVE  2 роки тому +1

      @@servus1556 Not including any products (roof conversion, fridge, sink, taps, water system, electrical system, windows, etc) we spent around £2,800 on the cabinetry/camper side of things. That includes things like:
      - insulation
      - the raw sheets of birch ply for all the cabinetry
      - the laminate and bonding services for the birch ply (we had laminate bonded to our birch so it was easy to maintain and clean)
      - CNCing
      - bamboo worktop
      - upholstery foam
      - upholstering of the cushions
      - the flooring
      - the hinges and fixtures
      Seems like a lot, but when you compare it to the £18,000 quote we got from a company to build it almost to this same spec, I must say I'm pretty pleased. Glad we decided to do most of it ourselves.
      Disclaimer: I'm sure there's some things I'm forgetting on this list or random things we bought that I didn't put on my excel doc, but that is a good estimate.

      We went with a Sterling Power 1500w induction hob: sterling-power.com/products/induction-hobs-1. We have the IH1 (which is their built-in) and their IHP (which is their portable one). This was one of the only companies I could find in Europe that offers induction hobs that have variable power (ie. it doesn't switch on and off to achieve the higher power levels, instead it puts a constant rate of power out at that level. Much better for the health of your inverter.) AND power sharing if you go with a double burner from them (as you turn one hob up, the other hob goes down to never exceed the max power). It's been great so far. Hope this helps!
      Here's a Google Doc with links to all of the products we used for the build, if that's helpful, too: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRFisndHnpXPR17DSLjHcd3NaGGftLz8IlGtEqzno5l89F2ljsjhDPpQvUa7Nidwwe6D_bhsoVCpvM8/pubhtml

This is the longest journey as I call it for myself and adventures are my life...the last 8 years velcroed stuck with two wonderful furry boys a border collie and a saluki that love adventures too but limit my travelling . Having lived 21 years in the magical UK which was my magic , I decided to return to where I am originally from ...I noticed the flag and was happy you been to GR . I had defenders and the last one after Brexit is just stuck on an island now. Anyway to cut the long story short it would be for adventures not just cruising. Would love to talk to you further about it....at this stage of my journey I desire to see and sense ❤️ seeing your Defender today got me away from the idea of converting a van for myself and my boys and even for when I fall in love it would be the vehicle I would love to have the most magical adventures in. Did you have any problems installing the roof rack on top of the Icarus?

    • @EXPEDITIONROVE
      @EXPEDITIONROVE  5 місяців тому

      No problems but you will have to upgrade your gas struts if you plan on adding a lot of extra weight. I would suggest trying to keep the weight off the roof as much as possible. We actually took half of our rack off and moved some other bits around to try and get as much weight as possible off the roof to help with handling. Obviously as a touring vehicle you will always be heavy so there’s only so much you can do.
