Excellent Simon you are an inspiration to others in a world where it is becoming the norm to just buy pre-made anything these days. I admire and respect people like you who use their skills and traditional ways to create amazing things, thankyou for sharing with us Gaz
The grey door against everything else being blue , and needing to open the door to swivel the seat ! Absolutely love those quirks ! its just so land rover-ish 😀😀😀
Simon, your creative ingenuity blows me away. And not just for the Land Rover but many other things that are featured in your videos. From making Ammo Can tent stoves, oil lamp inserts for candle lanterns, bucksaws, reflector ovens, wood gas stoves to sewing together baker tents and wool bush shirts. It's just outstanding! Combined with all of your camping/bushcraft trips and your great down-to-earth personality, your channel is by far my favorite on UA-cam. Cheers!
U r truly a gifted handyman Simon!!! It looks like a great diy Build !!!! Impressive work, problem solving and application !!! Nice 👍🏽👍🏽😀 job on the swivel chair !!! ..... Another excellent example of problem solving and application. you really did luck out on how that Chinese heater just happened to fit where it did which made the plumbing to the outside a lot easier and then the fact that the fuel tank just happened to fit right there yeah that's a good thing every dog deserves his day !!! By the way Simon I just wanted you to know that at the beginning of the video where you're driving along and the cameras at the very back of the vehicle showing the whole routine of driving shifting steering that was truly excellent and I really enjoyed that I thought that was a nice touch well done !!!! Cheers to you amigo 👍🏽😀.
Interesting conversion. Since 1996 I`ve owned 4 110s, doing my own simple additions for use as a camping vehicle. I like the idea of the diesel heater, though these days I use a Ducato self styled campervan, fitted with a wood burning stove and a 2 burner stove from a caravan for cooking. I have only recently subscribed to your channel, got on to you from Kent Survival. What you do is very informative. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
A great video Simon. My son is starting a build on his VW Crafter and the ideas in this video will be invaluable. I'm not a Land Rover fan myself but I do love what you have done with yours. After a lifetime of working on vehicles I have had enough of oily hands.
YEARS AGO...I HAD AN OLD FORD VAN THAT I FIXED UP FOR A CAMPING VAN. DID A LOT OF WHAT YOU HAVE DONE ONLY NOT AS FANCEY AS YOURS...BRINGS BACK MEMORIES....☮️❤️💥🇧🇯🇺🇸🖖
You failed to mention how you picked the ultra stealth color palette of the various exterior panels! Amateurs may excitedly go for a single color and accidentally draw attention and reveal that it is in fact quite a swanky camper inside but YOU were clever enough to choose an inspired spectrum of particular natural hues to throw off even the most attuned observer! Don’t gloss over the small stuff! It’s your attention to those finer points that elevates this from craft to art. 😜👍🏻 love it Simon and more jealous than you know of your build and the promise of adventure it represents!
Hi Simon, that’s some great carpentry there! Deciding what should go where takes some deep thought and determination! The satisfaction you must get from this build makes me smile! To do it all on a budget , it’s a win win! Thanks for all your effort in putting this together! 👍
Really loving your build. A couple of things about the diesel heater, wrap the pump in foam and put under the vehicle in a box attached to the underside. Your blower air intake is supposed to be recirculating the already warmed air inside your vehicle, pulling in and heating -1° air from outside will use a load of diesel unnecessarily. All you are achieving is forcing out the warm air around your door rubbers and windows etc. Heat heated air and crack a window slightly for ventilation
@@simonablokeinthewoods on the plus side of your setup you will have fresh warm air and no condensation but it’s not ideal. If it was my build then I would fit a lever system to divert between fresh or recirculating air. Loving the content by the way 😄
Excellent video, thoroughly enjoyed your practical, no frills attachments and modifications, even down to the mismatching door colour 😁. Do wonder what the Mrs must think of all this! 🤣
This is Jonathan from USA in Florida. Hello, Great show! I've noticed over time while watching your program that you have a lot of unique gear. Thank you for sharing your passion.
The hammock was the ideal setup. - Having lived in Brazil,... I became hooked on them, having bought my first (family sized) hand-crafted one, on the beach of São Sabastião on the coast of the state of São Paulo, near Guáruja in 1994. - I even hung it up on the upper floor of my home in Holland, and often preferred to HANG OUT there than sleep in my double bed downstairs. .
Fantastic build, given me plenty of ideas for our Defender 90. Land Rovers a built not bought, always a work in progress. Keep up the good work. See you again soon
Well done Simon, I like it a lot. The hammock is a super idea which will solve some of my in vehicle sleeping problems. The heater is great for heating, mine does hot water too. Looking forward to the next episode (#3). Keep well and be safe.
Happened to catch this while watching Toyota ads collection. Simon does very neat work and has very practical solutions for his limited space. Interesting content and very useful. Thank you for your work and time! Duane in NV, USA
Just watched a guy in Alberta Canada (where I also live) talking about the Chinese diesel heather he was installing in his van build, and the instillation of the fuel pump and how noise it was. He did a similar thing regarding the fuel pump and had it zip tied rather than mounted. Nice build on your lanny can’t afford one out here. Like the hammock idea everyone else goes for a fixed or Murphy style bed.
OMG, this is great, well done Simon. I have just got a 110, 3 door, from my partner who has just passed away, I am seriously looking at converting it into a camper, this has given me some great ideas, although I haven't got all the tools, workshop room, and know-how to do this! Darn!
You've brought together the two things I most crave in life right now. A Defender and a Camper. This has given me some serious inspiration! Thank you Simon! I wonder, if a single RIB bed/chair would fit down that passenger side and still leave enough gap? Hmm...
Update - I bought a 110 Td5 about a month or so after leaving this comment. And I've put a bed in the back, diesel heater, work lights, leisure battery, water tank, etc, etc. 😊 Best thing I ever wasted my money on 🤣
Merci beaucoup Simon, i didn't know how to start the conversion of my 109, you gave me precious tricks. I was a little bit afraid of condensation inside the vehicle when the heater is on, but you don't seem to point it out ! Ok now it's my turn to make the job ! thanks
Hello Mate! What a unique and awesome build! Yours is the first Defender build I have seen, yet alone a vintage Definder like yours! Everything you did perfectly suits that vehicle, and still allows you to use it for work as well, well done! I have had my VW Westfalia since 1980 when I bought it new, and it has served me well all these years. My three kids have grown up in my westy both boys having a time of ownership, but alas my Betsy has gone full circle and I have been 5 plus years in my restoration, but still maintaining her as a daily driver. I have toyed with the idea of the Chinese diesel heater since they hit the market, and after your vlog, has renewed my interest, because as you know, air cooled VW's have little to no heat, but I did install electric seat heaters when I re aplostered my seats, and maybe one day Ill get the factory heater booster working which essentially is like the heater you installed. Thanks again Simon, your vlogs have always been amazing!
Nice job & well presented. Diesel heater review was particularly interesting as I'm changing my caravan gas heating to a diesel heater. Will be using the link & the discount code so thanks for that.
I always enjoy your videos Simon, but I found your last two converting your Land Rover extremely fascinating, I think you have done a brilliant job, without spending a small fortune. Everything is so well thought out, you have done a great job mate, and I look forward to seeing you using it properly when we are able to get out and about again. Take care , and all the best to you.
Love the content. Living in North America I’ve gotten used to and spoiled by our options for over landing rigs. Great to see an everyday usable rig with the best set up I’ve seen for a weekend away. Also love the gifts people give like the dual battery controller. Gotta love the best UA-cam can be. Everybody take care.
Just recently found you on UA-cam and what a welcome distraction from all the bad news. Ive had the same far more serious Land Rover addiction for too many years now and have passed that onto my boys. enjoying working my way through the back catalogue and cant wait to get out once we can. Keep them coming and lets hope mid spring brings better days.
I have ripped out and binned Webasto, Eberspacher and Mikuni heaters from various camper builds when one or more of their components have failed and replaced them with 5Kw Chinese diesel air heaters. One dosing pump for an eberspacher costs almost double the price for an entire Chinese heater kit. All you need to remember is that the Chinese heater is a direct copy of the Eberspacher D2. The research and development had been done years ago in Germany, the Chinese simply made a squillion copies when the copyright expired after 25 years. You could buy 15 Chinese heater kits or one eberspacher kit ....Anybody would buy a second Chinese heater just for spare parts 😀 liking the build.
This is a really good use of space and I love the curtains, sounds daft but most people just have them hanging with gaps at the top and for me that looks awful. I also love the hammock, brilliant way to have a bed without having a bed 🛌😴 well done. Can't wait to go on a jaunty
Love the swiveling seat! I saw a lot of conversions - but nobody came up with that idea! And I love the rather lowkey appearance of your Landrover! Reminds me of mine - I own a 1991 200tdi! Greetings from Austria!

Very nice. The heater looks to be nice and toasty. The seat swivel is fantastic. I would use the idea but my truck is a 1963 3-door series 2A with a bulkhead behind the front seats. Do you have details on the sink and water pump on a different Video? Thank you.
It’s still not finished yet! But I love what you have done to this vehicle. I don’t know what a full furnished vehicle like this would cost you in the UK but you saved a ton of money doing the DIY version. Can’t wait to see how it serves you out in the Wilds. Great Job Simon until next time 😊
Hi Simon. Great build, I love it. As for your pumped water supply, I used a 12v submersible pump from a caravan shop. Also available as a 12v shower unit on Ebay for around £20. Then used a 20ltr plastic oil container, scrounged from a fast food shop, for my water container under the sink. Hardest part was making a pipe disconect so I could take the container out to refill. Just used the rubber end of a pen to push into the pipe. I have a VW T4 that I converted 6 years ago. But!!! Now, after watching this, I'm looking for a ex MOD 110 Defender :-)
Neat unit mate! My experience with LandRovers has been all Series11s in the Army and a 1967 LWB Series11A LWB that I owned. I wasn't paying attention and thought the stove burner you put on the rear door shelf was a record player.... Thanks for a great video and an exceptional vehicle build. :-)
That is spot on mate everything you need without the cost of buying a Mobile home. Before i bought my Static Caravan in Northumberland i nearly bought a V dub to convert. But converting a Mucktruck thats another matter, spotty Dog mate, love it.
Hi Simon. Your video just popped up in my recommendations. And the same as a few people have commented. It gives me a bit of inspiration of what I should do with my 110 which is in need of some TLC. Cheers mate all the best. Alan👍
In the middle of a van build myself. So loved this video, I'm doing very similar things to yourself and love my power oak. Keep up the amazing videos Simon
Hi folks - some of you were having trouble with the discount code for the heater - this is now sorted - all my fault!
The code is ‘Simon’
👍
I went on their website. They have a ton of heaters. Which model do you have? I don't see any at £95. I assume that's after the discount.
This is nice and perfect .. good job pal
Like it
@Rob S Mine is the one at the top - it’s actually £103 - my mistake. 👍
That solar panel link is now a dead end I think, just so you know..
Your the kid at school that always had the best toys lol great video
Hahaha 👍
I love it because it's not going to cost a mint, it's achievable and satisfying doing the job.
That strip lighting is so awesome looking. This whole project is amazing. Youve built a rv camper.
We never would have known half the things done if you didn't tell us. The attention to detail and how methodical everything was done is astounding!!!

You are such a skilled man. Such a great project. With love and respect from Minnesota, USA❤️
Love love love it cracking build very impressed
Good work there Simon....Like the keep it simple, attitude.Well done.
Great truck I will definitely use some of those ideas on mine.
🔥The most clever Bushcrafter/Outdoorsman on UA-cam! I love all the things you do. Bravo Simon! 💙
So many little clever details. That heater is pretty neat. If I ever get far enough in my Suburban overland build i'll definitely need one of those!
Very nice, now you can combine bushcraft and overlanding. can't weight to watch. Stay safe from Michigan city ,Indiana USA
Seems like a lot of work to do on a nail!

You sir are just genious🤙👏
Thank you! I’ve thought about a platform - might do that at some point 👍👍
Neat unit mate! My experience with LandRovers has been all Series11s in the Army and a 1967 LWB Series11A LWB that I owned. When it was summer we thought about winter and in winter we tried to think about summer! HaHa!
Having permanent fresh water plumbing can be problematical. If not designed and used /flushed properly can result in all sorts of bugs, etc. I'd be looking at building in a Water Jerry can that can be removed quickly.
Brilliant ouutfot so fat though. I love the door handles and that revolving seat!
Love those diesel heaters. All looks great.
I thought I'd clicked on the wrong video with that banjo music intro! Great stuff mate.
was not expecting the hammock.. thats an amazing idea! thanks for the video man, looking forward to the next
Hi Simon, very good convertion! I would definetly put a separate battery for domestics, all it needs is a split diode from the alternator!

That is amazing how you have made use of such a small space. Just Brilliant!!!
Phenomenal job! Absolutely creative!
Both the hammock and the swivel seat are great ideas, I'm going to see if I can fit swivel seats to my Discovery! Cheers for the inspiration Simon,
It's funny how satisfying it is watching this conversion. Thanks, Simon. 👍🙂
Wow, 10% uplift in subscribers in just 1 month! Onwards and upwards Simon! Quality content like this episode is garnering attention.
Thank you!!
You can always take it for a drive to the end of the garden... ;o)
I like the hammock idea. No wasted space, and packs away in seconds.
All the best.
Hahaha - I might get it stuck in that mud!!
Fantastic Simon, I am sure you and Maggie will have lots of fun on your camping adventures x
Hi Simon. Your video just popped up in my recommendations. And the same as a few people have commented. It gives me a bit of inspiration of what I should do with my 110 which is in need of some TLC. Cheers mate all the best. Alan👍
Fantastic projects. Just watched them again. 👍
The hammock is pure genius
In the middle of a van build myself. So loved this video, I'm doing very similar things to yourself and love my power oak. Keep up the amazing videos Simon
Great vid Simon really enjoyed it. Nothing short of genius, you thought of everything.
Your a legend Simon. Peace and love from Ireland. Your amazing at what you do, love the videos.
