Pictus Gecko, The Best Pet Lizard?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- Pictus geckos (Paroedura pictus), also known as the ocelot gecko, the Madagascar ground gecko, and panther gecko really might be the best pet lizard. They are easy to house, easy to feed, and easy to handle. These are amazing pet geckos. The real question is simply whether or not the pictus gecko is the best pet lizard for you. So, is it?

Who loves Clint’s Reptiles 👍
I do. And I love all of you that have made it become what it is today.
I do to ❤️❤️❤️🦜🐊🐍🐢🦎
🙋♀️
I think the better question is who doesnt? :D
@@ClintsReptiles you make the absolute best reptile videos on youtube. Just got into reptiles 4 ish months ago and i have binged all of your videos! You single handedly got me to spend $500 on a gargoyle gecko too haha. Now just looking for a male for her!
USE A LID USE A LID, ive seen mine climbing the glass. Seriously. clean glass too.
One of my girls likes to do that too 😂 i'm always shocked to see her standing on vertical glass just like a crestie
your positivity is so infectuous that i actually just went "hi clint" after your "ohai there!", by myself, with my headphones on
cringe
They look like they're the texture of tiny basketballs
Omg so true
They are actually mostly just soft, kinda like a silky fabric. Most of their scales arent big enough to be individually felt.
Lol that's actually really accurate
Pictus Gecko: The extended Clint cut
Up close and personal!
That's pretty much right on.
It’s funny because a few hours ago I was looking for a care on them, there’s not alot of care videos on UA-cam
Perfect timing!
Clint's Reptiles I have a leachie gecko and I’m wondering if I should use a heat source, my room is always around 18-20c but when I pick him up he is always quite cold.
Do you need a humide hide with a leachie?
Probably just a humid enclosure. You can use a heat pad on a thermostat, but excessive heart can be dangerous for them.
Clint's Reptiles thanks
The Strong Bad reference!!!! And we thought you were rad before!
“You no me”
I also have always called my son Trogdor. I don't know why, but it just seemed right.
Ha, I love it! When my wife and I were first dating we found out both of us had watched strong bad emails before we met. Smooth sailing from there. ;)
In these ratings you should show a picture of the enclosure
I believe I know why they became rare. Pictus geckos are from Madagascar. According to the owner of the Texas Reptile Zoo, Madagascar stopped exporting reptiles several years back, and when they resumed *only* exported CITES-listed species. This means that non-CITES Madagascar species, which were mostly wild-caught before the export moratorium, are now only available captive-bred, and since the non-CITES species are generally the ones which were less in demand (even though they include some really cool species like Malagasy iguanids, zonosaurs, and Malagasy hognose snakes), there weren't a lot of people breeding them. And for most of these species, there probably *still* aren't many people breeding them, because most people, sadly, just won't pay CBB prices for a pictus gecko or a zonosaur.
Which I'd ironic because of how easy Clint said they are to breed.
I don't think this is the case because they have been bred for a long time and are so easy to breed. They likely just fell out of popularity which happens to some species
Hi Clint,
Just want to note that I have had my little guy climb almost to the top of the glass, i think the only reason he didn't make it is because there was some condensation.
Please use a lid!! :)
The most important question: do they eye mlem?
Thank you for making me chuckle ^-^
Plz we NEED ANSWERS
most likely, i see no automatic eye mlemers and they didn’t blink throughout the video... we need ANSWERS!!
I have pink eye and it’s contagious snjsjsbsjdn finally i have a proper word for it
THEY DO MLEM!!!!!!!!
YESSSS I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!! My students are going to love this!!!
Let me know what they think :)
@@ClintsReptiles I absolutely will! Officially became a patron today!
Thank you so much!
I had these year's ago. We called them panther or ocelot geckos back then. I almost forgot they existed! Great vid!
So nice I'm watching it twice
It's better the second time 😅
That gecko is same as stenodactylus?
The hatchlings can climb the glass but when they get older they become too heavy
I ordered my Pictus from Josh’s Frogs today. I’m so excited!
"We're happy you pictus"-Clint's geckos
Loving these little gecko videos! If they’re not already on the to-do list you might want to think about adding viper geckos, super tiny, super easy care, super cute, super over looked.
Rewatching this video and giggling a little because we have about 41 Pictus gecko eggs from this year that have been slowly hatching out. They are super cool little dudes!
I just got 5 babies today! I am so excited!
Watching them stalk prey was one of the best parts. They literally stalk.
My first once stalked my praying mantis through the glass between them... and the mantis stared back. I wish I had a picture, it was very funny especially cuz they were about the same size (huge mantis, subadult gecko)
Can flying geckos be next they are awesome in both appearances and behavior
Did you find them looking for pictus geckos on morph market? That is how I developed an acute NEED. I couldn't find a gliding video, and my life will not be complete until I have a gliding sized cage so I can see it.
Their little webbed feets!
Clint, excellent video! I'm a bit of a Paroedura picta fanatic, raising hundreds and hundreds and I felt you were right on with the information, especially your comments on over breeding them. Very good. A couple of points- when they grow back their tails, while they are not turnip shaped like leos, they are stubby and do not appear like their original tails. Also, they DO benefit from UV light (like all animals). While they are nocturnal (look at those eyes! :) they are crepuscular also and some UVB lightings is a benefit. But excellent info!!!
You just read my mind...I wanted a video of this little guy! Great video as always!

Well hi there! I'm here today watching an updated Clint's Reptiles video...
Oh, I like this episode better already :)
Oh this is precious. I enjoy the close ups!
You never know how much you love something until it is gone...
For any UK friends, the RSPCA currently has one of these lil guys!! Also corn snakes, carpet pythons, royal pythons and others so if your looking for a reptile please try adopt as they rarely get adopted :)
This is the chihuahua of geckos right here.
I think that title goes to the mourning gecko
We watched the first one you posted . I said to my husband .... What the heck , where are the close ups lol.
I'm glad you guys let me know. I don't know why they didn't upload.
We still watched it anyways 😂. We will probably watch it again . I can't count the times we have watched your videos about the scaly littles we have ! Bearded dragons , leopard geckos , uromastyx and blue tongued skinks . Clint we have a rescue leopard gecko , we don't know genetics . He is now 7 months old , 92 grams and 9 inches . Cheeto is gonna be huge . He is rad 👍.
dang I wish I knew you were looking for some. I breed them as well in utah.
OMG!! This may be my first gecko!!!
Helmeted gecko next please !
What group are pictus gecko's in like eubliraphadae or rhacadactulus
Paroedura
@@ClintsReptiles thanks! My mind immediately went eubliraphadae because of the wart like bumps all over it
Tip that my mom told me:
"Don't use a lid, use a plastic and put it on top, to make it stay, use a rubber band, and use a pen for that thing to breathe"
I discovered and fell in love with these guys a few months ago. Finally got my hands on them at a local expo last month. Admittedly, I love my leopards more so far for personality and handleability, but I’m sure that’s down to the individual animal. The pictus sure win for bug-eyed cuteness!
What's the difference between the personality of the leo and pictus?
Clint has better taste in content than UA-cam's algorithms!
Love seeing the close up!
Can you do a video over Chinese Cave Geckos? I’m super curious and they look so beautiful
Your gecko there has a pretty great regrown tail
PS - those EYES! 🤗😱
Right??
They do have toe pads but are not as likely to use them I recently got a pictus because my Leo passed and my pictus only really uses his toe pads when he has to more like a defense mechanism for running away
Mine always loved climbing
this is a bad pet for handling. Its very difficult to handle them as babies because they are more inclined to scurry off due to fear and are nearly impossible to start handling young. if this thing gets away once youll likely not catch it. if you intend to handle dont be deceived, this guy is an expert handler of reptiles.
Sometimes the tails dont row back fully tho. they are stubby
I have a question. I just got a baby crested gecko. is it normal for him to just sit in his little tree cave? I put out some crested gecko diet but he won't eat it. Is that bad?
Hey can you do a video on Anolis Maculigula or Rueda's Anolis
oh wow im so early! im awake at 7am because im going to the anaheim reptile super show 🤩
Enjoy! I wanted to go, but life is just too crazy at the moment. Let me know how it goes.
Hey Clint, can you let us know when you got some gecko babies? I'd to take a few off your hands.
You should make a video of the western banded gecko
I know I’m late but can I keep too males together or too females together?
Can you do a video about Carpet Chameleon?
The eyes are GORGEOUS! My leo is jealous.
6:15 they do climb suprisingly well when inclined to. My younger male even recently made it to the ceiling of his enclosure. Their pads are too small to walk up glass easily (except as babies, the babies can climb rediculously well) but there is a trick my geckos found out independently about climbing up in corners.
Ridiculously easy to breed! My pictus female has been laying eggs without breeding and they are hatching! Parthenogenesis I'm amazed
He's smart though. First breeding a (locally) rare gecko and then promote them on UA-cam so he can sell them 😛
Wow I'm early. Love your videos, keep up the good work!!
It was reloaded lol I was so confused when I got another notification
#notificationsquad
With close-ups this time!!!
@@ClintsReptiles clint do you have any advice dor stynodactylus?
Your videos are so amazing!!!
Thank you so much! We certainly do our best.
He looks a lot like my Gargoyle, Chester! Especially the snout. Thanks Clint!
I breed pictus geckos in Toronto Canada. I own some morphs, such as xanthic, anery, and a possible new one. Use a spoon to collect eggs. Very happy to see a great video about them. My big special male is 6.8 inch's. I have seen females climb glass. However I find only the young really climb.
As far as I currently know, Madagascar has closed all flora and fuana exports. 90% of pictus on the market were wild caught.
Hey...
I'm thinking on getting a pictus.. hows there personality? Like are they the same as a leopard gecko?
I was your 1k like 👍
Leaf tail gecko review when???
You should review the crocodile gecko :D
Thanks, Clint, now I want another critter 🤔😁. Well done. What temperature do they prefer?
I didn't even planning to get any pet at the moment, but the way you bring the information about the animal it's so good and entertaining. Pretty good
I'm so glad you can still enjoy our videos. More knowledge is never a bad thing :)
Ahhh, NOW all is right with the world 👍🏼😍🦎Thanks for the re-upload my friend 🙏🏼
This is the first time we've ever had to do that. I'm glad you guys pointed it out so quickly.
Clint's Reptiles Been subscribed for a long time and know when something ain’t right ;) We’ve got your back and we’re looking out for you 👀
2:51 "Disappointing to me, not to the ackie" Did you feed your Ackie monitor the remains or was this just a flub?
He loves tiny eggs :)
@@ClintsReptiles Not a drop wasted I bet! Nice
Now I have a problem. I now have found 2 perfect geckos species for me. Now it's a coin toss between morning geckos and pictus geckos
GECKO GECKO
Pictus geckos are probably the cutest geckos out of all of them
I think them and knob tail are close competitors
Are they suddenly popular? Could that be the reason for their scarcity?
Thats a Rad Lil Fella...
Does Paroedura Stumffi have almost the same care as the Pictus. When look up care or video about them I find the Pictus
I have 4 leos
Panther Gecko(pictus gecko) is very cool pet!!
I’m breeding them, too.
Very cute, and active :)
The clearly better upload
I agree
I say he doesn't shave until he hits 300k subscribers 😜
Great video as always chief, I appreciate your work.
200$ for a pair?!? I live in Czech Republic, small European country, and even though they're not common here, babies cost only 10$ each! I'm so glad I don't live in US and got my three geckos for only 40$
You know you are a big Clint’s Reptiles fan when you can basically predict what he will rate the lizards in most of the categories before he even says it just based on his description and prior knowledge
I got my first dragon
Nice. What kind?
Bearded dragon he so cute
Hey Clint! I was amazed by your videos and decided to get a reptile, Do you recommend pictus for a newbie? How much would I spend to house it correctly?
Looks like a cross between a leopard & house gecko. :)
Pretty much.
For anyone who can answer this
Can I keep like candles going or like them essential oils going when I have reptiles or would it mess up there breathing and will the smells be too strong for them?
Phat Jackson please avoid these kind of things around reptiles. i would not light a scented candle etc in the same room unless ur sure the terrarium i closed tightly and when u do open the terrarium, u opened the window and thoroughly ventilated the room before
Why would you need them anyway
i just saw 3 for free rn should i cop?
We've had our pictus gecko for the past 5 - 5.5 years, and he's been great. However, looking in on him tonight and I noticed that he's very thin and very lethargic... I'm afraid his time is coming to a close. And for 5 years I was never able to find any females for his company. We're sad to lose him 😥
Video idea: five best skink teptiles
You should test when your babies hatch if they can sit on water, and if they can you should continue until they cant anymore. :)
Who did u buy them from at Tinley? I'm going next month
UA-cam is so wrong pictus geckoes are very rad 🦎 I think geckoes are my favorite reptiles - only downside BUGS I don't do bugs at all
It look like a super small and cute leoperd gecko withe a big hand and coongrajulathion on finding a picture 🦎 🥳🤩🥳🤩🥳🤩🥳😎
Saint Louis petcos have had plenty for a year now, before that I never saw them. Either way I love mine
Just picked up my first pictus gecko at an expo this morning! She is so precious and I know I'll be getting more in the future... I'm already in love❤😂
The sorta-common-but-not-too-common species always seem to come and go in waves. A few years ago you could get baby Mexican black kingsnakes for $30-50, now they're $200+.
do cat gecko next please! otherwise known as the Aeluroscalabotes felinus!!
Hey Clint! I know this video is 3 years old but I’m looking into adopting a 2 year old female. She lost her tail and I thought it would grow back, but apparently she lost it some months ago and it’s only a “turnip tail” still. Is there a chance that it won’t come back? I think I’m adopting her regardless, but I was hoping she could get a tail again.
These geckos hate sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
I just found some at nerd... I want to learn and find out thier care so watching your video....yes. I think they were like 100 or 125 something like that
Any info on Giant Leaf Tailed Gecko's? I've seen a few people ask awhile back when you first started and you replied that they were coming soon...but I don't see any videos on them from you :(
Hey Clint I've been to my local pet shop recently and saw two creatures I'm interested in, the Tokay gecko and the African bull frog, I'm not sure what to get. Advice please?
As always , this video is awesome!!!!😊
