I cant remember exactly what video you said it in, but my favorite Clint quote of all time has got to be "If you touch a reptile, you should probably wash your hands. If you touch another human, you should DEFINITELY wash your hands." Still makes me laugh when I think about it.
i cannot describe the inhuman squeal that came from me when i got a notification for this video. It always brightens my day to hear you enthusiastically say "well hi there!"
My local reptile store has a two year old chewie available, and when researching I was wondering why no one had snatched it up, they seem great! But then I saw that it cost $900, and and it all came together.
I used to own a gargoyle gecko but when I got him he was very mean, and he would bite and poop on me. I tried to socialize him and handle him every other day but he never changed. I had him for a year until I gave him back to the reptile store.
Ah yes! These guys don’t get nearly enough attention! I love the feeling of these guys, by far the softest reptile I have. My personal favourite reptile is the gargoyle gecko but these guys are just great.
What no Chewbacca sounds? Very disappointing. Lol. I just started seeing them at local expos and they are awesome and yes very expensive. Great video as always.
Best thing I can think of for the chewies is they're a convergent evolutionary equivalent to the mossy leaf-tailed geckos of Madagascar -- except Chewies make much easier and more handleable pets haha. You hit all the nails on the head! And they're my favorite New Caledonian species as well! Definitely high on my wishlist. Thanks for featuring this unique and wonderful species, I love this series you have.
Awesome vide Clint, this made me so happy. I have to thank you. Recently I’ve been in a period of depression. Thank you for helping me feel better and get out of it alongside Coyote Peterson and the Crocodile Hunter You have really changed my world for the better since I discovered you in October
Even though I have no chance of actually getting a reptile while having my furry baby, Daisy, I was thinking the best gecko(or lizard, for that matter) for me might be the Leachie. I loved how the colors varied from leachie to leachie. Some were white-ish some were more mossy and stayed within that beautiful natural range. I love crested geckos, and it seemed to be just a Huge crested gecko with an attitude and don't forget----half sock puppet. I was thinking if there could be a better lizard for me overall, (Even though I won't be getting one) and you always surprise me. I definitely knew of them, but I hadn't seen them put into a lot of detail. You never fail me in finding "the most rad pet reptile". Anyways, great video!

I could barely pour them fast enough to have one ready for the next time he said it.
You got a new subscriber. Can't help it, you display so much love and enthusiasm for your subject that I find myself equally as excited about these awesome critters. Please, keep up the great work!
Very strange how Chahoua geckos are so expensive in the USA. I bought a juvenile chewie for £99 (120$) a couple months ago and they're selling another adult for £150 (180$) at my local amphibian/pet store. Leachies are really expensive though, £500 for a younger one and £700 for an elder one
I just watched a video that demonstrates horrible feedings of reptiles, I would like to take back my last few comments of show a feeding thanks for the video guys!
You definitely peaked my interest with this one. Leechie is one of my favourite lizard, but their size has always been a lil iffy for me. I did not know of Chewies, so now I gotta do some research on them.
I thought they were fully prehenshile. Their other name is "mossy prehensile tail gecko". Mine rolls their tails up into little cinnamon rolls. It's the cutest thing. I'd have to say the chewie is the most chill out of my other species of NC Geckos. I have a female that is the laziest lump and you can scoop her up at any moment no probs.
Hey Clint! I discovered your channel two years ago when I was hopelessly searching for entertainment during the pandemic. It began with your 5 Best Pet Lizards and a few vids later I came across this one about chewies. I immediately fell in love and knew they were the species for me. I know that most people recommend starting with a crested gecko but I was determined and convinced that I needed a chahoua. I spent an entire year doing intense research, convincing my landlords (re: my parents), buying supplies, and finally building a bioactive terrarium. It’s been 3 weeks with my 1 1/2 year old Pine Island chahoua and I am so in love with these beautiful creatures. I named him Pancake because his defense mechanism is laying as flat as possible but at night he flips and flips around the enclosure. I just wanted to thank you for deepening my love of reptiles, for bringing me entertainment during a very hard time in my life, and for introducing me to my new best friend.
Don't feed them for a few days before moving. Most reptiles will be fine for a day without their heating as long as they aren't digesting. I just moved with mine.
Lots of Chahoua in UK. Saw dozens of them at the IHS (Biggest UK expo). Even at the end of the expo when everyone was packing up! All between £60-£150. Had no idea they were so rare in North America.
1. CHAHOUA ARE THE BEST. I have some for sale at Rainy Day Geckos on fb! Come see me! ^_^ 2. Chahoua's tails are indeed fully prehensile! Their common name is the mossy prehensile-tailed gecko. :) They are also very disinclined to drop their tails, because they rely on them so much more than cresteds or gargoyles. They curl them up in a little cinnamon bun when sleeping, especially as babies. 3. Chahoua really aren't fragile, unless we're talking babies. Don't squeeze em or anything, but you can pet them and generally handle them quite easily with no worries for tearing skin or anything like that. 4. Chahoua DO need more bugs in their diet than other New Caledonian geckos, so prepare to feed crickets or dubia a couple times a week. 5. Chahoua hardiness is the same pretty much as cresteds. The only real difference is that they require more calcium, so calcium crashing is much more likely with these guys. 6. Chahoua seem quite intelligent for a gecko! Which makes them adorably willful. It's one of my favorite things about them.
Also I’d like to add, my boy (he’s about 2) was never given insects, uvb or supplemental heat and he was only 30g when I got him! Definitely offer bugs every so often and monitor weight. My boy is gaining already and is a tremendous hunter! So fun to watch them hunt and eat!!!
I was reading your comment and I want to say something please don’t feel offended or get upset at me, take it only as a food for thought thing... I didn’t like where you wrote that is so much fun to see them hunt and eat. I understand that if a pet is a carnivore, they must be fed accordingly or it would be considered abuse in my opinion. I have 2 cats, they’re carnivores so I feed them meat. What I didn’t like is that by feeding live feeders you, and everyone else, are just watching another creature being stressed, in fear, and losing their life. While I understand that’s nature, I just would find it impossible to be fun to watch. So I always wonder how ppl choose a pet that needs that type of feeding, I really couldn’t but ppl are not all the same so some ppl can. I just find that having fun to watch someone dying is adding insult to injury. I would like that ppl still cared about those insects or other feeders, and if they had to describe how they felt by watching it, it would be with respect, maybe a bit of sadness, and not fun. I do apologise if my comment upsets you, it’s not my intention, it’s not a personal attack on you but rather my 2 cents on the issue
@@yourshadows two things can be true at once. I can be saddened by the death of a mealworm or a black soldier fly and also happy to see my formerly malnourished pet using hunting behaviors for the first time. Since this video was about chahouas and that’s what I was talking about it seemed kind of out of place and redundant to just tack “I’m so sad abt the bugs tho” onto the end of the sentence. My crested gecko is extremely great with being handled, he actually walks up to the door of his exo terrarium and waits for me to open it, then he climbs into my hand when I put it out, then just sits there calmly

That is not unintentional. These are not intended to be care guides. You should definitely consult a comprehensive care guide provided by experts on each species you intend to keep. These are intended to help you decide if a reptile is a good fit for you before you really dig into the specifics.
@@ClintsReptiles I understand. Yet, I mostly fail to find good, comprehensive care guides with more technical information. leopard gecko is the easiest to handle if you're not rough. When the hell does a leo bite? Ever? Even if the Leo bites you, their mouth is so much pointier that it will do nothing. I've handled many, many lizards and the leo is the best. Even the ones that are skittish, they only try to run away if anything. Never strike you. I've known sooooo many Leos and even when they don't want to be handled, they don't bite/ They just get ancy and then you put them back in.

leopard gecko is the easiest to handle if you're not rough.
Dude where are you around??? You always have animals from utah pet stores and i live in Brigham city Utah lol.
What are the odds that some of these New Caledonian geckos evolved from one another …. Think about it Clint ….
Do Chinese cave geckos please!
Why is youtube breaking the like button for me? Everytime I press it then scroll down and back up to it, it unlikes the video
You should do some videos on day geckos would love to hear what you think of them
Could you make a Video about Gold Dust Day Geckos?
Very likely indeed.

Yeah!!!!! Just got one about two months ago. She's a trip
Bro my friends leopard gecko is literally about if not better to handle than chewies in my opinion. Like, it just sits there…
I’ve seen chewie X crested geckos before. How do you feel about them?
He mentioned the New Caladonian gecko playlist in the last video I watched. I wanted to watch it. There isn't one. :(
My favourite New Caledonian gecko is the crested gecko
It should be mentioned that chewies can be very territorial in their enclosure and often times they will bite
That’s crazy how the crested geckos are the only ones to not grow their tail back lol oh well guess I have to get used to the frog butt 🤷🏽♂️
Clint, what’s your opinion on Chewies crossed with Crested geckos?
I just bought a Chewie!! If anyone has any name recommendations let me know :)
are there any geckos that don't need insects that are easy to take care of. Really want a gecko but insects will be difficult for me. Happy holidays
